I saw this one at the Opeth forum and thought it was cool.
Rules:
I start by posting a youtube video of a song.
1. You rate the song that has been posted in the last post with a grade from 1 to 10 and with a comment. You have to listen to it even if it's a band you hate or a song you hate you have to give it a fair chance and listen to the end.
2. You post the song as a youtube video of your willingness, and wait for it to be rated.
3. Don't post same songs twice.
Ok, so I decided with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2KkaRLiyxg

Ok, so I decided with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2KkaRLiyxg
I like it. But it's something I would have to be in just the right mood to want to listen to. As for a rating, I'll give it a 5 out of 10 right now, but if you asked me when I was more in the mood for that sort of thing it would be higher.
I guess I'll start off with something that I'm sure a lot of people here would like.
Tetrafusion - Dark Matter (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTGxqe1nnNk)
-
I think this is the wrong link...the link you putted is for a song called "Biosphere - Kobresia"...anyway I'll listen to the Tetrafusion one and I'll edit my post with my comment! :tup
-
I think you clicked the link in the quote and not the one I posted. It works fine for me. ;)
-
Thanks for introducing me to Tetrafusion. It's pretty awesome.
-
Wow what a n00b I am! :P
-
Thanks for introducing me to Tetrafusion. It's pretty awesome.
Yes, they are! The whole album (they only have one right now) is fantastic! They have a new album coming out in October too.
-
OK so here is my comment for Tetrafusion - Dark Matter: I've never heard of them but this is really good! Its start with some strings and piano and evolve into a prog-metal section and then there is just a great collection of riffs that never felt pasted or whatever. The whole thing flows pretty good and it never seems repetitive either. Overall a great tune, I gave it a solid 7.5/10!
So here is my song! Obviously it's an Unexpect tune but I promise I won't spam this thread with their material!
Unexpect - Desert Urbania (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbSUEbG3OVE)
-
Great thread idea but I'm pretty sure other people have tried it and they've all been locked. I'll participate if the mods decide to let this one go though.

My guess is that it'll be okay as long as it's not DT or DT-related material...I mean the whole Song Roulette thingie includes sending youtube links so I don't really see what's the big deal here...Of course I can e wrong be I just assume that it won't be lock just now.

The harsh vocals are actually pretty good, and all the weird instruments give a nice chaotic atmosphere. I like it quite a bit, but the clean vocals kind of annoyed me though. 8/10
Cormorant - Uneasy Lies the Head
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Obik_DA9Edc
Posted this before, but I absolutely love these guys so I'll do it again! Really weird mix of Folk/Doom/Black/Trad that really isn't evident in this song in particular. This is more of a straight-up heavy metal song with black metal vocals (But other songs they have tend to be... different. I know a lot of people compare Salt of the Earth to Opeth, but it sounds closer to Celtic Frost/Into the Woods... to me :lol )
Anyway, just some awesome riffs, awesome vocals, epic guitar solo and not to mention EPIC VIKING CHANTS :metal :metal :metal
And lyrically its about the Reign of Terrors. Done very nicely if you ask me.
-
Doom metal has never been my thing..just beyond my grasp of heaviness.
I've dl some Cormorant before trying to get into them without luck.
I give the song an 8 for DOOM simply because I've heard much much worse and musically they were pretty tight sounding.

Please enjoy Theocracy - Laying the Demon to Rest
quite possibly the most "metal" song opening ever....EVER. Im not a big bible thumper, but I can get past the christian lyrics and really have no trouble enjoying these guys. This album is incredible I highly recommend all of it.
-
Very good, I could see that song growing on me in the future.
8/10
I figure I'll post another christian metal band. heh
Becoming the Archetype - How Great Thou Art
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnRTfjPohYw (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnRTfjPohYw)
It's their rendition of the old Christian hymn and before you get skeptical about it watch it cause I think it's awesome. It's from their album Dichotomy which I recommend.
-
Try to refrain as much as possible from chatting please.
Anyways 6/10 for How Great Thou Art - some good material, but nothing fascinating.

Daylight Dies - All We Had
Wow this song is actually very cool, guy has a beast of voice on him, guitar work is also quite accomplished :metal. 7/10. I will remember this band in the future
now, my favouirte band, Neu! :hat keep in mind this song is 1973
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTjNjNHos2s
-
Wow, sounds truly revolutional. It's a bit repetitive, but that doesn't make it ANY less awesome. 7.5/10

Röyksopp - What Else Is There?
That was really good. Singer had a good voice, and the music was great too. 8/10
Doubt most of you will like this, but whatever:

Circle Takes The Square - Same Shade As Concrete
Amazing song! I really liked the different layers of vocals from screamo to punk-shout to clean-singing. The raw production made it sound a little bit hardcore which is really good. At 4:30 this song covers a lot of ground but it never seems forced. I love this song and I really need to check out this band more. 8.5/10.
This is my song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jud_SnKTlY

THE AGONIST - Thank You Pain
6/10 - At first I didn't like it, I don't like her growls and I think that they are unecessary in a song like this, but I like her singing voice. Towards the end the song got better and better, liked the solos, and made me change my first opinion about it.

Their only current album, As the Roots Undo, is one of the greatest albums ever. GET IT
-
Massive Attack - Inertia Creeps
9/10
I love this song, it's my favourite from Mezzanine and the buildup throughout is just incredible. My only complaint is that the vocals annoy me a bit.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-TtHCJm44s
I know people hate them on here but this song actually has some progressive elements and a lot of cool different sections.

Don't worry, it's on my list! :tup The problem is that my list is really long... :-\ I'll have to be careful with what I buy next!

7/10, I was pleasantly surprised for the most part. The solo could have definitely been a minute or so shorter, but it's a live performance so it's more forgivable.
And now for something completely different (trust me guys, it's rad):

Most of that was really good, the first minute had me worried but by 2 minutes in I was hooked. I'm definitely marking them down as a band I should look into sometime. 8/10

Not really my bag, but the chords before the first verse were pretty interesting. I'd say 4/10, but again, it's outside of my tastes.

One of the most unintentionally funny videos ever. But soooooo good because of it. Like The Room.
And once that chorus kicked in I was hooked. Probably couldn't listen to it a lot but it was awesome.
I think glaurung posted it as a joke, but seriously tho, 8/10.

I did post it as a joke but I do legitimately like the song too. :tup

That was amazing, truly. 9/10. Some parts reminded me of Opeth's Twilight is my Robe.

THE OFFSPRING - Come Out and Play
A very catchy and solid song. I loved the instrumentation, and it's far beyond what I'd expect from a punk rock (I'm not into the genre after all). Aside from a bit annoying vocal, I liked it a lot. 7.5/10.
Well this might be familiar to some members here;
AYREON - My House on Mars
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yqqsbd9ZYmw
-
Not a massive Ayreon fan, but that was definitely one of their better songs. Good atmosphere and sweet female vox. Really liked the metal backing riffs during the (mini)solos. It's a bit too long for what it is though 6.5/10

:tup Get In a Flesh Aquarium NAO! It's their best album to date (their new record will come out in a couple months or so) and a real masterpiece.

Maybe it's one of those things where I'll need a few listens to like it, but I was pretty bored the entire song. The section starting around 8:30 was probably my favorite part, then I lost interest again around the 10 minute mark. I'll give it another try sometime, though. 5/10

Buckethead--Ghost Host.
I've always heard about this guy from the younger posters and only knew of him from playing with G & R. This instrumental what fantastic!! Very melodic with a great groove. 9/10. Thanks erha!
This is a band produced by Serj Tankian and they are on his own label.

Slow Motion Reign - Isn't It Time

Dir en grey - STUCK MAN
Well, that was awesome and wonderfully strange, though that covers 99% of what you listen to. Now I have another band to check out and I already have so much to listen to, thanks asshole. 8.5/10

Alcest - Écailles De Lune (part 1)
That is really good! I loved the great atmospheres and the melancholy in the vocals. I don't know what it is (post-rock but heavier?) but I really need to listen to more of this kind of music. I gave it 8.5/10.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXDwu89C06s

Alcest is considered shoegaze/black metal. Check out Les Discrets and Amesouers if you like that kind of thing.
-
shoegaze/black metal
Shagrath looking down at his feet while being very focused on his playing first popped up in my head when I read that. :lol
And yeah I already know of Amesoeurs but I'll put Les Discrets on my list aswell! :tup
-
Les Discrets was unfortunate enough to be discovered shortly before I discovered Amesoeurs, who completely overshadowed them and took over my life for like a month. I really need to listen to them more :lol
-
So then I guess Les Discrets were too much...
...puts on sunglasses...

YEEEEAAAAHHHHH!!

Star Ocean 3 - Exploration
I adore video game music. This song is no exception. It's really upbeat and just gives off that sense of adventure. With such awesome guitar playing on this song, it looks like I need to play this game. Yes, I play games based on if their soundtrack is good or not.

Necrophagist, on the other hand, is amazing. Great song.

Necrophagist - Symbiotic in Theory (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvZjIRi6Yl4)
8/10 for the excellent riffage alone -- not a fan of the vocals, but then again I never am when first getting into a death (or black or -core) metal band. Could definitely see them growing on me.

Knew that song already, and love it. Buckethead is awesome.
breaking away from metal for a bit:
