Title: The Walking Dead
Post by: blackngold29 on August 25, 2010, 01:40:39 AM
If the series is as good as the trailer, it'll be better than any zombie movie yet. I'm throughly pumped. :metal

Snazzy poster, although I'm not sure why a TV show requires a poster.

Also they've been showing "Zombie Rules" on the facebook. These are awesome because no movie has time to go into this much detail.

Zombie Rule #1: Ability to run is based on the amount of time the zombie has been undead, and how much rigor mortis or decay has set in.

Zombie Rule #2: Zombies will decay (like regular corpses) but at a much slower rate. It is still possible to differentiate between "young" and "old" zombies, though.

Zombie Rule #3: Zombies are like a pack of lions: if they've just eaten, you are more likely to walk by without them going after you. On the other hand, a pack of hungry zombies will take after you.

Zombie Rule #4: The quickest speed of any zombie is a shambling run, no faster than the first zombie you see in the original Night of the Living Dead. There are NO sprinters among them.

Not sure whether I agree with this rule. Zombies do not need flesh to survive, they do so out of some primal instinct set deep within the brain. Having no digestive system and no central nervous system they wouldn't be able to feel hunger. Therefore, after feasting on the flesh of the dumb girl who thought cornering herself with a shovel would be a good idea, they would still hunt for the flesh of another.

The Walking Dead will be airing as a six part series in the US in October this year but no date has been announced for the UK as yet.
Fail.

Edit:

Quote
FX has picked up the UK rights to zombie thriller The Walking Dead, the first series to be wholly produced by US cable network AMC.

Shawshank Redemption director Frank Darabont is overseeing the TV adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel series, which will kick off with a 6 x 60-minute series starring Andrew Lincoln.

It hits the US and UK in October, with FX airing it as a follow-up to series three of True Blood.

Yes!!

Double Edit:

Looks more like November for UK viewers as the US date is Oct 31st.

I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS.

Just watched the first episode. Pretty good stuff. There was a lack of soundtrack, which was boring at first, but then you realized that it was probably done on purpose to emphasize the loneliness. Not sure why the black guy didn't go with him though, it didn't make much sense for him to stay behind.

Watched this last night. EXCELLENT!!

I'm not a huge zombie flick fan. I've seen a ton of zombie films, but usually I'm not that excited about any of them. The spate of films that have sprung up the last five years or so are boring, and overdone if you ask me.

This film (and yes, it was more like a film than a television show) really impressed me. It was excellent in it's detail (the insect noises in the heat of summer, and the filth and bottle flies everywhere around the dead are just a couple of examples). Frank Darabount spared no detail or expense for the first episode. In fact the only thing I fear is that because he is only personally directing the first episode, it might not live up to it's debut the rest of the season. Either way. I'll be tuning in to see for sure.

I haven't read the comic, but the show was really awesome.

Dunno, maybe it was because of the hype in this thread but

a) it was pretty average
b) nothing really happened

You will. The comics are amazing. I haven't got 78 yet but I'm hoping to get it soon.

The first episode was really good. There were a few sections that didn't stay as true to the comics as I had hoped, but that was inevitable.
By the look of it, no one in this thread has read any of the comics though so I'll have to keep my thoughts to myself regarding that.

Excited for the rest of the series. Not sure how far along the story they will get with only 6 episodes though.

So it was one of the creepier scenes of the pilot, but who the heck takes the time to write "God Forgive Us" really big in blood on their wall? You would think a hand written note would've sufficed.

It reminds me of the scene from 28 Days Later when the main character enters the church and sees the message scrawled way high up on the wall, "The end is extremely fucking nigh."  Okay, but why take the time to bust out the giant ladder and let everyone know?  That's a little narcissistic.

But I guess that's the whole point.  That dude killed his family and himself and suicide is supposed to be a selfish act.  So, yeah, writing a message in blood on the wall I guess would be the act of a desperate mind unable to think beyond itself.

Oh, yeah, and it was a fantastic show.  I just caught it tonight.  Thank God for DVR.

This series is incredible! Completely digging that the characters and thier development are carrying this rather than special effects and zombies, I like how they are second nature to the story. Every aspect from this show has been top notch to this point, yes the soundtrack could improve but that is easily overlooked IMO.

SPOILERS:

I found it interesting that Shane told Ricks wife he was dead when in fact he wasn't. Could this mean that they were having an affair before all of this happened? I haven't read the books so I don't know.

Having not read the novels either, I think that she was pissed off because Shane said Rick was dead just so he could get in her pants. Watching Shane sit out in the rain made me feel kind of bad for him (even though he is acting like he's the king and is a jerk for taking it out on that one guy), but if he knew that Rick wasn't dead then I won't feel sorry for him at all.

The ending this week was fantastic. I thought it would take longer for Rick to find his wife and son. The show really kind of changes now.

Yeah Shane sitting in the rain with the 'storm' brewing behind him was very symbolic and just another example of how the subtle unwritten things really enhance a series/movie etc. And you're right, she was extremly ticked off so I suppose that would indicate that their 'affair' began after everything went down. I like the fact they didn't waste to much time in ending Rick's search and reunion with his family just for the reason you stated, it changes the dynamic of everything now. Not only will Rick be diligently protecting his family but as he demonstrated, he will be balancing his percieved duty to everyone else as well along with it. How he seperates the two in the future will be interesting to see.
Bummed there's only 3 episodes left but stoked that the second season is 13 episodes. Anyone know when the 2nd season will air? I've yet to look into it.

I guess it's a matter of perspective. If you're looking for non stop zombie chase and kill scenes then it appears that this show isn't for you. If you're looking for a deeper underlying story other than 'run it's a zombie' then you're gonna like the series. I'd like to trump your comment with 'Last nights episode rocked!' :metal

Watched the first episode last night, and it was really good.
Overall tense, especially the ending with 3 billion zombies everywhere.  :P

Is there any explanation later on about what happend?
Like how the zombies 'appeared'?

Figured that's the thread for the first season since the recent one is titled second season and I wanted to avoid spoilers.
3 episodes so far. De-fuckin-licious show :D

?

I thought the majority opinion was that the show peaked with its first episode.  Certainly what I think.

ResultsMayVary is correct. It just keeps getting better.
I almost regularly skip reading GuineaPig's posts when they're about a T.V show. No disrespect but it's always negative, always condescending and therefore a turn off.
Almost done with season 1.

Eh, it all comes down to taste.  I'm certainly not universally (or even mostly) negative about TV - I'm on record as saying that as a medium, television is far outstripping movies in terms of quality.  There are a lot of great TV shows; The Walking Dead just isn't one of them, imo.

How would your ideal Walking Dead be? Post it in the season 2 thread. Give a summary of all the episodes, but how you would have had them play out. This is 40% of your final grade. This assignment is due tomorrow. Extra credit if you turn it in early. Good luck, class dismissed.
