If the series is as good as the trailer, it'll be better than any zombie movie yet. I'm throughly pumped. :metal

-
Can't watch videos in work, but as the biggest zombie fan ever I'll be checking this out later.
-
I believe my girlfriend might have that title cthruboy
-
Snazzy poster, although I'm not sure why a TV show requires a poster.
-
The comic it is based on is excellent so I have high hopes for this.
-

That sounds like a challenge.
-
Also they've been showing "Zombie Rules" on the facebook. These are awesome because no movie has time to go into this much detail.
Zombie Rule #1: Ability to run is based on the amount of time the zombie has been undead, and how much rigor mortis or decay has set in.
Zombie Rule #2: Zombies will decay (like regular corpses) but at a much slower rate. It is still possible to differentiate between "young" and "old" zombies, though.
Zombie Rule #3: Zombies are like a pack of lions: if they've just eaten, you are more likely to walk by without them going after you. On the other hand, a pack of hungry zombies will take after you.
Zombie Rule #4: The quickest speed of any zombie is a shambling run, no faster than the first zombie you see in the original Night of the Living Dead. There are NO sprinters among them.
-
Zombie rule #5 Don't re-make Dawn of the Dead..
Oops, too late.
-
This looks really good, I'll try my best to keep up with it, but I'm not always great at that :lol
-
I am so excited. Looks amazing.
-

Not sure whether I agree with this rule. Zombies do not need flesh to survive, they do so out of some primal instinct set deep within the brain. Having no digestive system and no central nervous system they wouldn't be able to feel hunger. Therefore, after feasting on the flesh of the dumb girl who thought cornering herself with a shovel would be a good idea, they would still hunt for the flesh of another.

The Walking Dead will be airing as a six part series in the US in October this year but no date has been announced for the UK as yet.
Fail.
Edit:
FX has picked up the UK rights to zombie thriller The Walking Dead, the first series to be wholly produced by US cable network AMC.
Shawshank Redemption director Frank Darabont is overseeing the TV adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel series, which will kick off with a 6 x 60-minute series starring Andrew Lincoln.
It hits the US and UK in October, with FX airing it as a follow-up to series three of True Blood.
Yes!!
Double Edit:
Looks more like November for UK viewers as the US date is Oct 31st.
I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS.

New wallpapers out today (https://www.amctv.com/originals/The-Walking-Dead/downloads). Holy brutal!

What?! That's a great remake!
-
FOX is going to release it on November 1st here. Looking forward to see it, though I can't keep up with TV Series very much
-

Zombieland?
Those were how to survive, these are actually what the zombies are doing/how and why they act.
-
Anyone catch the first ep?
-
This is out in America? Oh shi...
I need Internet at home so I can check this out.
-
Yea, I'm attempting to download it right now.
-
My flatmate watches tons of tv. He downloaded the first ep last week. He said something about it being one of the greatest things he's ever seen.
-
:caffeine:
-
Recorded it last night, gonna watch it later today.
SO EXCITED!
-
I believe my girlfriend might have that title cthruboy
That sounds like a challenge.
Seriously, she has read pretty muche very zombie book and makes me watch every zombie movie ever made. Most of the movies are absolutely horrendous, but there have been a few gems.
-
Ditto. A few weeks back I watched 'Flight of the Living Dead'. If your girlfriend hasn't seen that one yet, tell her to check it out. I didn't stop laughing :lol
-
We watched Survival of the Living Dead this weekend, anyways I think that's what it was called, I get confused with so many titles :lol. But anyways, it was awful, we couldn't even get halfway through. But I will tell her to check out that movie. :tup
-
You should have watched the end! Zombie horseriding :lol :lol :lol
-
:lolpalm:

Just watched the first episode. Pretty good stuff. There was a lack of soundtrack, which was boring at first, but then you realized that it was probably done on purpose to emphasize the loneliness. Not sure why the black guy didn't go with him though, it didn't make much sense for him to stay behind.

Watched this last night. EXCELLENT!!
I'm not a huge zombie flick fan. I've seen a ton of zombie films, but usually I'm not that excited about any of them. The spate of films that have sprung up the last five years or so are boring, and overdone if you ask me.
This film (and yes, it was more like a film than a television show) really impressed me. It was excellent in it's detail (the insect noises in the heat of summer, and the filth and bottle flies everywhere around the dead are just a couple of examples). Frank Darabount spared no detail or expense for the first episode. In fact the only thing I fear is that because he is only personally directing the first episode, it might not live up to it's debut the rest of the season. Either way. I'll be tuning in to see for sure.
I haven't read the comic, but the show was really awesome.

Most people not in the US cannot watch it directly and have to download it the next day.
I watched it this afternoon, it was quite awesome.
-
Have this on my HDD already, gonna watch it in a few days - is it good?
-
I really enjoyed it :tup.
-
awesome, awesome, awesome and also awesome. I hoped it would be alright, but oh my god it's so much better than alright
-
Just finished watching it, twas awesome! Will definitely follow the series.
-
Watched it last night, very excited for more of it!
-
Really eager for the next episode, they did a great job making you want it!

It's aired a week later in the UK for example.

Because he's a black guy in a horror setting! :neverusethis:
Just finished watching this, it was AWESOME! I will be definitely be following the series, though since I don't get AMC over here I'll have to wait for people to upload the episodes.
-
I am interested in watching the show since I've heard of it. I'll see if I can find the show somewhere (which I can).
How long was the premiere? 1 or 2 hours?
-
66 minutes Volk. I'll definitely be a follower of this, and I'm sure we'll see the black guy again (haven't read the comic, just a guess)
-
I actually just bought the first comic an hour ago. I guess I'll see if I like it.
-
awesome, awesome, awesome and also awesome. I hoped it would be alright, but oh my god it's so much better than alright
This, exactly. I told myself it would only be OK because I didn't want to be let down, but wow, it's as good as I could have ever hoped.
And I really hope the man and his son are regular characters.
-
Dunno, maybe it was because of the hype in this thread but
a) it was pretty average
b) nothing really happened
c) nothing is really expected to happen in the future episodes since after Lost aired a mysterious stranger in the radio is hardly a plot device to get anyone curious
will still follow

Keep in mind that this is a first-time thing, we've never had such a long story about zombies before so they have to set it up well and that could take a while.
-

You will. The comics are amazing. I haven't got 78 yet but I'm hoping to get it soon.
The first episode was really good. There were a few sections that didn't stay as true to the comics as I had hoped, but that was inevitable.
By the look of it, no one in this thread has read any of the comics though so I'll have to keep my thoughts to myself regarding that.
Excited for the rest of the series. Not sure how far along the story they will get with only 6 episodes though.

So... much... fail...
-
The pilot was fantastic. I hope this has a good run and at least covers all the stories arcs in the books.
-
So it was one of the creepier scenes of the pilot, but who the heck takes the time to write "God Forgive Us" really big in blood on their wall? You would think a hand written note would've sufficed.
-
Yeah, I thought the same thing. That was kind of silly, really.
-
Religious folk who are appealing to God to pass over them akin to the blood above the door in the Egypt for the last plague.
-
Or someone who just saw their family and friends being eaten and is therefore not all there.
-

It reminds me of the scene from 28 Days Later when the main character enters the church and sees the message scrawled way high up on the wall, "The end is extremely fucking nigh." Okay, but why take the time to bust out the giant ladder and let everyone know? That's a little narcissistic.
But I guess that's the whole point. That dude killed his family and himself and suicide is supposed to be a selfish act. So, yeah, writing a message in blood on the wall I guess would be the act of a desperate mind unable to think beyond itself.
Oh, yeah, and it was a fantastic show. I just caught it tonight. Thank God for DVR.

I don't think he can complain now.

I didn't understand the part about the polar bear.
:neverusethis:
-
I just finished the first volume. It's actually really good. I enjoyed it.
-
I missed the first episode, but watched last nights. I was not all that impressed. I mean it was cool, but I don't get why people are worshiping it.
-
Because zombies.
-
Because zombies.
Yeah it would make sense to love it if it was the first zombie series comics tv-show movie insertwhatnot ever created.
BUT IT ISNT
Based on the first episode its very much like every other.
-
I can sincerely tell you that this is not like every other zombie series.
If you'd read the comics you would understand.
-
Saw episode two last night. It was also very good. This will be a great season to watch in it's entirety again, once the inevitable dvd is released. :metal

This just in: Figures released today confirm that “The Walking Dead” has broken ratings records, with the series reaching more viewers 18-49 than any other show in the history of cable television. The Oct 31 premiere also had record-breaking premiere ratings in 120 countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia and The Middle East.
Wow!
-
Haven't read any posts in this thread since yesterday since I don't want to read any spoilers. But I'm really looking forward to seeing the new episode (probably tommorow).

AMC actually ordered season 2 about a month ago. Sounds good to me!
-
Thank god for PVR.
Just watched Episode one. WOW. AMAZING. Can't wait for the next 5 episodes this season. Seriously, it had some of the most emotional moments I've ever seen in a television show.
-
I love how this show is done. It's so much more about people surviving than it is about zombies. It reminds me to World War Z, one of my very favorite books.
-
I was going to say it has more of a Stand vibe to me, if The Stand had zombies in it lol

That kind of makes the part where it says, "AMC announced today the renewal of The Walking Dead for a 13-episode second season." confusing.
-
Bear McCreary did the music for this series. And I didn't think it could get more awesome!
-
This series is incredible! Completely digging that the characters and thier development are carrying this rather than special effects and zombies, I like how they are second nature to the story. Every aspect from this show has been top notch to this point, yes the soundtrack could improve but that is easily overlooked IMO.
SPOILERS:
I found it interesting that Shane told Ricks wife he was dead when in fact he wasn't. Could this mean that they were having an affair before all of this happened? I haven't read the books so I don't know.
-
I can't really get into the characters all that well but we'll see how this progresses.

Having not read the novels either, I think that she was pissed off because Shane said Rick was dead just so he could get in her pants. Watching Shane sit out in the rain made me feel kind of bad for him (even though he is acting like he's the king and is a jerk for taking it out on that one guy), but if he knew that Rick wasn't dead then I won't feel sorry for him at all.
The ending this week was fantastic. I thought it would take longer for Rick to find his wife and son. The show really kind of changes now.

Yeah Shane sitting in the rain with the 'storm' brewing behind him was very symbolic and just another example of how the subtle unwritten things really enhance a series/movie etc. And you're right, she was extremly ticked off so I suppose that would indicate that their 'affair' began after everything went down. I like the fact they didn't waste to much time in ending Rick's search and reunion with his family just for the reason you stated, it changes the dynamic of everything now. Not only will Rick be diligently protecting his family but as he demonstrated, he will be balancing his percieved duty to everyone else as well along with it. How he seperates the two in the future will be interesting to see.
Bummed there's only 3 episodes left but stoked that the second season is 13 episodes. Anyone know when the 2nd season will air? I've yet to look into it.
-
Ladt night's episode sucked.
-
Ladt night's episode sucked.
I guess it's a matter of perspective. If you're looking for non stop zombie chase and kill scenes then it appears that this show isn't for you. If you're looking for a deeper underlying story other than 'run it's a zombie' then you're gonna like the series. I'd like to trump your comment with 'Last nights episode rocked!' :metal
-
Watched the first episode last night, and it was really good.
Overall tense, especially the ending with 3 billion zombies everywhere. :P
Is there any explanation later on about what happend?
Like how the zombies 'appeared'?

I thought the majority opinion was that the show peaked with its first episode. Certainly what I think.

ResultsMayVary is correct. It just keeps getting better.
I almost regularly skip reading GuineaPig's posts when they're about a T.V show. No disrespect but it's always negative, always condescending and therefore a turn off.
Almost done with season 1.
-
Eh, it all comes down to taste. I'm certainly not universally (or even mostly) negative about TV - I'm on record as saying that as a medium, television is far outstripping movies in terms of quality. There are a lot of great TV shows; The Walking Dead just isn't one of them, imo.

How would your ideal Walking Dead be? Post it in the season 2 thread. Give a summary of all the episodes, but how you would have had them play out. This is 40% of your final grade. This assignment is due tomorrow. Extra credit if you turn it in early. Good luck, class dismissed.
