Saw this in the "Overplayed Songs" topic and thought it deserved it's own thread.
Bloodmeat - Protest The Hero (78) (I listen to most of my music through my ipod as appose to itunes, hence the realtivley low number)
So, yours? :P
-
Porcupine Tree - "Trains" 71 plays
That's just on last.fm
-
Smoke & Mirrors by Symphony X
Zune isn't telling me how many plays though

did you go in the software to music > songs > right click and add "play count"?
looking up mine now.
Edit:
Whelp. I wish I had made a new account after I first discovered Sonata Arctica, because every last one of their songs is played over 200 times :|
And to think I only listen to them maybe once every 8 months or so now.
Looking in my zune software, the highest listened to song in the past year or so is
Chroma Key - Lunar
-
On my desktop: Waidmanns Heil - Rammstein 135 plays
On my laptop: Caravan - Rush 40 plays or so.
-

I love you so, so much.

Thanks Sonata
It's 74 plays, apparently
That can't possibly be right...

*takes hand and floats away to the moon together*
-
"Limelight"-Rush with 79 plays
-
Last.fm: Jeff Buckley - Last Goodbye
iTunes: 65daysofstatic - Install A Beak In The Heart That Clucks Time In Arabic
-
Probably one of those....
Megadeth - Holy Wars... The Punishment Due (That opening riff is one of the best things ever)
Cormorant - Uneasy Lies the Head (Unknown band, but this song and the album fucking rock)
Thin Lizzy - Emerald (Thin Lizzy just does not get enough love, period. Plus those guitar solo's are just..... special.)
Judas Priest - Dreamer Deceiver (Fuck Painkiller, this is JP's best song.)
Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name (Do I really need to say anything about this song?)
Since Cormorant is an unknown band, I'll just leave this link of that song in case anyone is interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Obik_DA9Edc

On my iTunes, which I have been using regularly for a little over three years, it is currently "How to Disappear Completely" by Radiohead, but Devin Townsend's "Bend It Like Bender" (which I listen to at the gym almost every day, and those listens register every time I plug my iPod back in to recharge it) is about to overtake it. :metal
-
Iron Maiden - "Running Free" with over 170 plays
-
Porcupine Tree - "Trains"
-
On my iTunes before my computer crashed, it was a furious race between
Dave Matthews Band - Drive In Drive Out
Santana w/ Cee-Lo and Lauryn Hill - Do You Like the Way
Sigur Ros - Milano
Bob Dylan - Visions of Johanna
or something like that.
If I was to hazard a guess at my most played song ever, it'd be either something off of SFAM, AJFA, or the Koeln Concert.
-
My most-listened is 'Throwing a Donner Party at Sea' by Giant Squid with only 36 plays :lol
Of course, I've only had a last.fm for 6 months.
-
I do believe it's "Siberian Katru" by Yes.

Pendulum - The Fountain just overtook it with 37 plays.

Hide and Seek - Imogen Heap

Topaz - B-52's
followed by:
Bloodmeat - Protest the Herp Derp
-
Cold Cash and Colder Hearts by Thrice
-
Just from memory (and without syncing my iPod to look at it on iTunes), I think I've played both Transatlantic's The Whirlwind and Spock's Beard's Snow over 200 times each, and I'm fairly certain Marillion's Marbles and The Flower Kings' Paradox Hotel are up there (at least 150-175 each).
Generally I like to listen to whole albums to having a "most played song" is unlikely, unless of course, you count "The Whirlwind" as a song as well as being the whole album... then yes, my most played song is "The Whirlwind" :lol
-Marc.
-
The top 3:
Rush - Kid Gloves (32 plays)
Marillion - The King Of Sunset Town (31 plays)
Rush - Lock And Key (30 plays)
-
Pain of salvation - Sisters (54 plays)
-
Porcupine Tree - "Trains"
This, with 87 plays, plus another 19 of the Ilosaarirock version.
-
dredg - Sang Real at 1106, over the past five years, obviously on the PC alone, ignoring ipod/car/CD player plays.
Doesn't surprise me at all, I absolutely LOVE this song, it hit me when I first heard it like no song ever did before. I met a guy in a bar with the cover of CWA tattooed on his leg, we went on a date and he explained where it was from... I had never heard of dredg, I figured they must be pretty good for him to have that specific album tattooed on him. I went away, ordered it, listened to it, enjoyed it, and then Sang Real came on, and it was like nothing I've ever felt before that quickly.
I spent three days solid listening to NOTHING but this song, at home, at college at the back of the class, etc. I even got up early 2 hours before I had to be at college to listen to it multiple times in quiet before having to leave the house, and I still listen to it every week and usually most days. All my close friends/family who know about my funeral plans know it's the one song I would like played if I die anytime soon. It feels like more than a song to me, it feels like a best friend that has been there for me for a few years now. Godamnit I love Sang Real :heart
-
Judging from Last.fm alone, my most played song is Serenity Painted Death with 33 plays. But if I include all the songs I've heard since two years ago, it'd be totally different. Probably something from DT.
-
Dredg - Sang Real (159 plays @ lastfm)
Honorable mentions:
Agalloch - Falling Snow (138 plays @ lastfm)
Porcupine Tree - Trains (122 plays @ lastfm)
-
There's no way to tell this on Windows Media is there?
-
According to LastFM:
1. Between the Buried and Me – Foam Born: (a) The Backtrack - 162
2. Between the Buried and Me – Foam Born: (b) The Decade of Statues - 155
3. Between the Buried and Me – Informal Gluttony - 150
4. Between the Buried and Me – Sun of Nothing - 147

Am I going to be the first with a DT song? It's Overture 1928 with 98 plays if I remember rightly, second is The Baying of the Hounds and third is Ghost of Perdition. With like 96/95 or something.
None of these are accurate since I wiped my PC so the iTunes plays went, and I was listening to CDs in my car for nearly 3 years so they dont count either. Damn you technology!
-
According to last.fm, Riverside - Ultimate Trip with 35 listens.
In reality probably Dream Theater - Home, I don't know how many times I've listened to it (both during the full album listen and separately), but 100 is a rough estimation.
-
The Glass Prison (92)
Swim To The Moon (83)
Burn It Down (78)
Fossil Genera - A Feed From Cloud Mountain (76)
This Dying Soul (76)
It would look much different if I didn't get a new computer recently.
-
The Crowing, Anestetize, Forty six & two, IKSOSE:3, and Trains o/c
-
PT - Fear of a Blank Planet (Not my favorite PT track, but it's my song of choice if I can only listen to one)
Puscifer - The Undertaker (Renholder Mix) - I don't like Puscifer at all, but this song just owned my soul a while back.
-
I really wish I knew, but between building a new PC, getting a new hard drive, and Winamp reinstalls, I have no idea.
I'd think it would be something like Home or Metropolis Pt. 1.
followed by
Watching Over Me - Iced Earth
Closure - Opeth
Undertow - Pain of Salvation
Accolade II - Symphony X
The Days of Grays - Sonata Arctica
Heavyweight - Infected Mushroom
or something like that
-
On itunes, Redemption's Memory has 64 plays and on my ipod it has 98.
-
Watching Over Me - Iced Earth
Awesome song, one of my favorites,
-
On iTunes my most played song is The Camper Velourium ii - Backend of Forever by Coheed and Cambria. Clocking in at 56 plays.
-
last.fm tells me it's
Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (PULSE)
I'm sure it's wrong though, the winamp scrobbler sucks.

I'd never listened to dredg before now. This post convinced me to look this song up. I'd just like to say thank you for that. This song is bliss. I don't love it as much as you obviously do, but I'm currently on my 8th or 9th repeated listen of it. Liking it more with each subsequent listen.
If you could recommend to me some dredg songs similar to Sang Real, I'd be very appreciative. :)
-
On my extremely new computer it's "Last Train Home" by the Pat Metheny Group. 15 whole plays.
-
Top 2
Opeth
Ghost Of Perdition
91
Dream Theater
Learning To Live
87

The Days of Grays - Sonata Arctica
Not a song title. Did you mean The Last Amazing Grays? Or Everything Fades to Gray?
Anyway: @ Zune users
I don't think zune has counted my plays in quite a while, because I know I've listened to some of these songs FAR more than they're saying. Is there something wrong with my software?
-
Hm. I dunno. Are you talking about the Zune software, or the Social (I don't think that counts plays anyway)
I never really pay attention to play counts or anything anyways, so mine might be off as well for all I know.
-
Another song that gets a ton of plays from me is...
The Lord Weird Slough Feg - Dearg Doom (Horslips Cover)
I DON'T WANT YOU
I DON'T NEED YOU
I DON'T LOVE YOU
CAN'T YOU SEE?!
WHEN THE STARS GO OUT
YOU CAN HEAR ME SHOUT
"TWO HEADS ARE BETTER THAN NONE
BUT ONE-HUNDRED ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN ONE!"
I fucking love Mike Scalzi.

Err yeah I'm a dumbass. I meant The Last Amazing Grays. I always get them switched up for some reason
-
DT - Metropolis
I don't have a very exact play count to go off of but it's a pretty safe guess.
-
Rush - A Farewell to Kings
Rush - Closer to the Heart
Arctic Monkeys - Teddy Picker
Rush - Cinderella Man
Rush - Xanadu
I blame my brother for the majority of those plays. When he gets attached to a song or album, he gets attached.

In the Name of God (Dream Theater - NOT Slayer).
282
I have more than that on my last.fm because I have the Live at Budokan and Instrumental Demos and such.
-
Dang.
-
John46 had way more plays than that.

I recently deleted iTunes, but I still remember my top three, which has probably only gone up.
Gorillaz - Rhinestone Eyes (298; yes, there are some things wrong with me)
OSI - Hello, Helicopter! (142)
Chroma Key - When You Drive (133)
Today I had When You Drive on the entire day. The. Entire. Day. And I didn't even drive at all. So that went up as well. I suppose I am immune to getting sick of these songs, because the more I listen to them the harder my cocklespiel gets.
-
At the moment, the most-played on my iPod are John Butler Trio's Treat Yo Mama (18 plays) and Bic Runga's version of Ne Me Quitte Pas (13 plays)

Awesome song!
For me, it's probably John Mayer's Slow Dancing In A Burning Room on about 500 plays, then Tool's Schism and Lateralus on around 200 each.
-
Yeah, if I had to pick a song which was THE song of the last six months to a year for me, it's probably be Treat Yo Mama. The amount of awesomeness they pack into less than five minutes is baffling. And the live versions are possibly better still.

Yeah, I've actually only heard that version he did at the concert on a cruise ship or something, but I love it. It's frustrating with people like Butler, as I only really listen to his live performances off of Youtube, like that amazing Ocean performance that's on there, so I can't really tell how much I've listened.
-
This is why I use that website that converts youtube vids into mp3s. I don't really have the patience for always fetching up the vids.
But at any rate, Sunrise Over Sea is really worth checking out, it's an almost flawless album.

I'll have to give that a try, I only got his self titled one for some reason and was a bit disappointed.

Is that from the Christchurch Symphony album? Thats a great CD. I love the Dylan cover.
-
I've only heard a sprinkling of pre-Sunrise songs, but it sounds like he had occasional great songs and got slowly better til that album, on which everything fell into place and his style really shone. Since then, his two most recent albums have been pretty good, but quite different, not as consistent, and far more mainstream-oriented.
@sneaky: Indeed it is. The Dylan cover is pretty good. I really love the Nick Cave cover though, actually.
