Title: The Reign of Kindo v. Update!
Post by: SoundscapeMN on July 06, 2010, 12:48:53 AM
Any other fans? they are kind of popular among fans of dredg and The Dear Hunter namely.
They're kind of a jazz-tinged progressive pop band. Their debut album "Rhythm, Chord & Melody" from 2008, was pretty impressive to many.

"This Is What Happens" is their new album coming out on August 3rd.

I'm still wondering who all checked this band out. They're tremendous, and pretty much everyone I ever hear about who does, loves the hell out of them.

new album "Play With Fire" coming February/March

https://www.facebook.com/thereignofkindo/posts/10151269434825390

Our new album, 'Play With Fire', is going to be released February/March. WE PROMISE!!!!! That might seem a bit later than you guys want, and we apologize that it's been taking so long. We don't, however, feel bad. The fact of the matter is, the music we make with each other is of the utmost importance to us. It is part
of what we'll leave behind on this earth forever, and we've come to realize that there are people out there relating to, enjoying and even being deeply affected by what we create as Kindo. That is something that sinks in a little more everyday, and it is one of the most precious blessings that any of us have in our lives. This album is among the most exciting things I have ever, ever been a part of. There was a night in my parents driveway a few years ago when I was listening to a mix of 'flowers by the moon'; a couple minutes into the song I was fighting tears as I thought about how grateful I was to be a part of this band. This album brought a similar moment. I let the tears come listening to an idea Danny brought to us...'Don't Haze Me'. I realized, without an arrogant or conceited bone in my body, that I was a part of something very special. We are our music, and having people to share it with is mind blowing. So we figured we'd do it right. And when guys have marriages, jobs, live in different cities and tour with other artists, things like making an album of a lifetime take a minute or two. If you're a fan of Kindo though... I can pretty confidently tell you that it's going to be worth the wait. -s

new song "Manwood/Basement" live. It gets pretty sweet around 3 minutes in.

Mang.... I discovered them on suggestion of a fantastic musician.... and I was sold instantly... Then I saw them mentioned on ariich's 50 thread (highly recommended btw) but I couldn't get around posting a comment....
Anyways... here I am finally showing some love to this band....  :heart

I'm not really into Dredg or The Dear Hunter.. and I think I've given them a fair chance.. (you never know though.. tastes evolve) but The Reign of Kindo hit me hard!  Especially with 'Breathe Again'...

Thanks for the thread!  :tup

the videos are estimated to be delivered in June. I would guess the album will be available soon after. It's already finished anyway.

By the way, they already met their $6500 goal being at $8877 already with 29 days left. It wouldn't surprise me if they received $30,000 or $40,000 before it's over.

Reign of Kindo got a bump from Periphery on facebook the other day.  Talk about an obscure connection.

Also, one of the members works at Guitar Center in the New York area and they are "striking" for better pay/benefits, etc.  It's a shame that, not only can these amazing musicians not make a living with their music, they can't even get by with a "real" job at a music store. :tdwn

May 28th: 1st single Feeling in the Night
June 25th: 2nd single Sunshine
July 30th: Album Released

Hey folks!

This is long overdue...but you can finally mark your calendars. It's official:

On July 30th, we will be releasing our new full length record, 'Play With Fire'. You'll be able to purchase it on itunes, amazon.com and candyrat.com. Physical copies can be purchased exclusively at candyrat.com.

What to do until then? I'm glad I asked:

On May 28th we will be releasing our debut single, 'Feeling In The Night' available on all of those same outlets.

On June 25th we will be releasing our second single, 'Sunshine'.

Two breadcrumbs leading to a giant musical pizza.

Thank you and bless you all.

So happy to see a thread on this band! A friend got me into them about a year ago and I think they are a fantastic blend of jazz, pop, prog, rock...etc....

Love the new album as well!  Reign of Kindo stuff usually takes a little while to sink in for me, there's so much going on in most of their songs it takes quite a few album spins to get a good impression of the record, but so far I think its very strong.

A few stand outs include: Impossible World, Feeling in the Night, Make a Sound, Sunshine, Romancing a Stranger and I Hate Music.

The new album is really nice! I still think they're not matching the incredible melodies they had on their first full-length, but there are some exciting new dimensions to this album. Lovely stuff.

It's really bugging me, but a short section in Sing When Noone's Around references one of the songs from the first two albums but I can't work out which one it is. Might have to just listen to both albums tomorrow to try and find it.

They're going out on tour with Jolly and Scale the Summit this November. Too bad there's not any Upper Midwest dates for my own sake, but this is kind of significant for TROK to tour ANYWHERE in North America regardless. I'm hoping it'll lead to more touring of the States next year.

Saw Kindo last night in a small ass club with like 50 people there. It was freakin' awesome.  It's the type of experience you hope for with any band.  Small, intimate, amazing.  We had a few beers with the band afterwards and chilled with all the guys.  They were genuinely excited that some guys from Florida are such huge fans of their little band from Brooklyn. They said they were here five years ago, there were two people there, and the bass player played the show in his underwear. So, it's getting better, but if your city is on this list, GO! There is no possible way you will regret it.  It went from being another concert to being a musical experience I likely won't forget.  Matthew Santos was awesome as well.

Hmm. Kind of like Protest the Hero's Pacific Myth. I don't like having to wait 10 months for the full album to come out but I think I am going to sign up.

Just one thing I'm wondering: Will there be a physical release of this at the end or is it just digital files again? I'm not sure whether I want to pay for just the digital files again, I liked Pacific Myth by PtH but I hate not having it in physical form.

If you like a neo-classical ballroom kind of style, check out their song "Romancing a Stranger" and work your way into the album that song is from, titled "Play With Fire". If you're more into the relaxed jazzy kind of approach check out "Let It Go" if you want vocals and the title-track off that album if you want instrumental. Then check out that album, titled "Rhythm, Chord & Melody".

Anyway, The Reign of Kindo just posted this video: https://www.facebook.com/thereignofkindo/videos/10154418834095390/
They sold me on this one :lol definitely going to sign up for that Patreon thing, I know these guys will not disappoint. I hope this 'releasing one song a month' thing does not become a trend amongst record companies some day, more and more independent bands seem to do it though.

Yeah it's very frustrating to have to wait 1 month for each song. Maybe this is the only way they will be able to get enough income to keep touring or something? They don't play enormous venues so.

Yeah, I understand it might make financial sense for smaller bands. And I acknowledge that I'm in a small minority that still regularly listens to albums rather than just singles. I just hope they release everything in album for when all the individual tracks are released..
Title: Re: The Reign of Kindo (jazz-tinged proggy pop. amazing drummer)
Post by: Train of Naught on September 25, 2016, 08:19:28 AM
Luckily, the following quote suggests that it will be released as a full album after all the individual songs have been revealed (just hoping for a physical release though, that's not always a given these days):

Quote
You will be amongst the few and privileged members of our inner circle who get to hear our new recordings as they are completed!  These recordings will not be available to non-patrons until the entire album is complete and officially released.
https://www.patreon.com/bePatron?patAmt=1&u=2341654

So the only privilege that patreons get is getting to hear the tracks beforehand. I actually think I am going to sit this one out because similar to you, I do not like listening to singles nearly as much as full albums. And most of the DTF community is probably like this. While I do like this band, I do not feel as dedicated to supporting them financially as I did with Protest the Hero when they did something similar to this, almost a year ago. I am a much bigger PTH fan than I am of TROK.

I guess I just support them however I can, and with the hope that they will release everything as a single release at some point and, and in a physical format. But yes, they are releasing this new music per Patreon for financial reasons. Their last album was put out per Pledgemusic, and they did a tour a couple of years ago that was funded through Crowd-funding; so it's not really a new thing for them.

it sounds like they will be releasing an album with many of the songs from Patreon soon, but also continuing with Patreon for the album after their new/next one.

That being said, the newest track "Poor & Hungry" is an absolute banger!

So funky and catchy, my wife actually felt weird to admit tapping her toes to it.

Finally was in the mood to check out Reign of Kindo today and just wrapped up Rhythm, Chord, and Melody. Some really tasty stuff. My favorite things about it are that it's not afraid to take it slow, and the saxophone and piano playing is just lovely. Gotta have more music like this in my collection.

Welcome to the club, either way! Kindo are awesome.

Hah! A little bit, honestly. Got tired of missing out (multiple reasons - the chief one being I'm just really bad at concentrating on new music at home so I always play new stuff at the gym or at work). This album sounded really fresh and different, so I can't wait to hear the rest.

EDIT: Had to check Sacul's roulette again and yup, I really enjoyed that song too.  :)

If Rhythm, Chord, and Melody is where you started, that's a great album to begin with. IMO, it's their best.

In my opinion Rhythm Chord and Melody is their best and most accessible album. I first heard of them through the old MP board where someone posted a video of "Just Wait" that hooked me in right away. It's still my favorite song of theirs.

I have downloaded 12 songs from their upcoming release(s). They are kind of tough to get into, many twists and turns and unconventional things going on but I am starting to get the songs better in my head. All their albums post "Rhythm" are growers.

no, but in talking to the bassist last August, they were looking to release something in February so if that happens, info would probably come out soon.

On the other hand, they just put up another great new track to the Patreon "Blue Eerie Glow"..another nice ballad.

just noticed this, not a ton of details although "WAX" may be referring to something (album title, recording format, etc).

https://www.facebook.com/thereignofkindo/videos/10155801297340390/

Another video made possible by our patrons on Patreon. They have 12 new Kindo songs that you've never heard before. They get a brand new song EVERY month. Want to get into that funky business? Do it.
www.patreon.com/thereignofkindo.

Yes a new album is on the way as well. It will include some of those songs, but not all Patreon songs are gonna end up on WAX. (Hint Hint.) In fact by the time the new album drops, Patrons will already have half of the NEXT album in their *hands. Who am I kidding? You're not even reading this anymore, you're watching the video, or screaming with joy. Incase you are still reading, we intend to release a new record every year. All made possible by our beautiful and loyal Patrons who deserve the highest praise and all the glory. Give it to them.

*on their devices, which they will be holding in their hands.

anyone check out their new album today?

I do enjoy it, although I was reminded on FB how songs like "Poor & Hungry Kings" were for their next album, and will have to wait.

"About Love" and "City of Gods" are probably my favorites, even having heard the Patreon tracks for over a year, but there is something fresh about hearing them within the flow and with possibly a new mix, on the album it self.

very cool Nate!

I did pickup my ticket today as well, despite the show being the night before my niece's Bat-Mitzvah.

I did enjoy moments of TYS at that Protest the Hero show last year, but I'm not sure if I'll ever get past their singer sounding so much like Claudio Sanchez.

You're not alone though with people going for TYS and curious about Kindo (some others in the MN Prog FB group are of the same feeling).

In the Presence of Wolves as well are a band I know and have listened to, but struggled with. I hope seeing them live will help.

I've listened to their most recent album a couple times since this show was announced. I liked it but it didn't quite fully click with me. I think their singer has the same problem of sounding a little too much like Claudio. There's been a large amount of proggish bands with higher pitched singers in recent years. It's something I need to get past generally rather than embrace. I can do that with TYS, at least on their most recent album, which I love. But other bands I just can't get past it.

it is the 1st time it's been issued on Vinyl, and I believe it's a DOUBLE given the album is well over 45 minutes and it's 180g.

$40 though, for your average album, even a double I agree is a bit steep, considering CDs cost less than half of that. But for an album I already love and have listened to well over 100 times, I guess as a Vinyl collector, I feel is worth it. Especially considering this may be a 1-time only, I feel it's worth spending a bit more for it.

This is my signature model CL7 from Kiesel Guitars with a custom 168 programmable LED fingerboard. I have had this idea for over 8 years now and I finally found someone to create it for me. Big shout to Will Lunden for designing and creating this board, and Dave at Equilibrium Guitars for installing it in my favorite guitar! Its fully programmable as you can see in the video, with unlimited effects. The future is now guys! Hope you love the video!

I was shocked upon reading this from Joey yesterday. I would gather that he's an anti-vaxxer and "felt ostracized and excluded from society", wow as someone who received the Covid vaccines and boosters it was hard for me to think about those who chose not to get the shot. Especially someone who makes his living playing in front of others. And then the part about his mental breakdown, really sad stuff there and I sincerely hope he is on the mend, especially with a young child. Sounds like it.

The guys just posted a live acoustic video of my favorite from their debut album. It was the first The Reign of Kindo album I heard, and have pretty much only heard completely so far, and it's fantastic to finally get a live rendition of this song.

I also like their cover of Dreams by Fleetwood Mac.
