Title: Venues Near You
Post by: Birch Boy on June 05, 2010, 05:19:44 PM
I just made a list of all the venues near me with how long it takes to get there and where they are to make picking concerts easier. This thread can maybe let some of us that are in the same area (CT/NY/NJ/PA, etc...) to maybe find out about new venues and maybe make planned concert meetups easier (I know this won't be as helpful/interesting to people across the pond).

I live in Bewster, NY, so here are mine (so far):

*Note: I only included places where major bands have played (that I like):

FYE – Danbury, CT – 16 minutes (Sacred Oath)
Tuxedo Junction – Danbury, CT – 20 minutes (Sacred Oath)
Heirloom Arts Theatre – Danbury, CT - ~20 minutes (Sacred Oath)
Chance Theatre – Poughkeepsie, NY – 42 minutes (DragonForce*, Exodus*)
Terminal 5 - New York, NY - 1 hour 3 minutes (Alice In Chains*, Dream Theater*, Wolfmother*)
Madison Square Garden - New York, NY - 1 hour 10 minutes (Iron Maiden, Metallica*, Pearl Jam*)
Chevrolet Theatre – Wallingford, CT – 1 hour 12 minutes (Progressive Nation 2009, The American Carnage Tour*)
Nokia Theatre – New York, NY – 1 hour 15 minutes (Iced Earth, Kamelot*)
Gramercy Theatre – New York, NY – 1 hour 18 minutes (Exodus, Stone Temple Pilots*, Nevermore*)
Prudential Center – Newark, NJ – 1 hour 18 minutes (Metallica)
Izod Center – East Rutherford, NJ – 1 hour 21 minutes (Iron Maiden, AC/DC, The American Carnage Tour)
XL Center – Hartford, CT – 1 hour 23 minutes (Roger Waters)
Webster Theatre – Hartford, CT – 1 hour 26 minutes (Fear Factory*)
Comcast Theatre – Hartford, CT – 1 hour 27 minutes (OZZfest 2010)
(Nikon at) Jones Beach Theater – Wantagh, NY – 1 hour 36 minutes (Aerosmith*, Stone Temple Pilots*)
Mohegan Sun (Arena) – Uncasville, CT – 2 hours 1 minute (Stone Temple Pilots*)
MGM Grand At Foxwoods – Ledyard, CT – 2 hours 13 minutes (Alice In Chains)

*= I didn't see them/won't see them, but know that they played there, and would've/will go if the timing was/is right.

;D So I guess my list pretty much would be the same as yours then.  :lol
I'm in Katonah once in a while, and never in Rochester, but still, it's cool that we're so close (I think we've been through this before, right?).

I think we have. Who the hell played at an FYE?

Anyway,

Beacon Theater, NYC NY - Hour away (Dream Theater)
Fillmore @ Irving Plaza, NYC NY - Hour away (Between the Buried and Me)

from Rochester:
Harro East Ballroom, Rochester NY - around 15 minutes away (Coheed & Cambria)
Town Ballroom, Buffalo NY - around 80 minutes away (Porcupine Tree)

I also put what bands I've seen there, so take that for what it's worth.

The Fillmore at Jackie Gleason - Miami about 1 1/2 hours away (DT, PT, Band of Horses)
The Culture Room - Ft. Lauderdale 2 hours away (Sonata Arctica) really fucking small venue
The Revolution - Ft. Lauderdale (Coheed and Cambria) small, close knit venue. Something like Terminal 5 in New York.

Sacred Oath played a free gig on Halloween there.  :lol It was pretty cool, because they got a World War II tank from a museum in the city driven down to play in front of.  :metal

I also saw Dream Theater in Wallingford!

And I forgot about the other three venues you mentioned, I'll add them to my list. Also, I forgot Terminal 5 on my list. I guess I'll add bands to mine as well.

I am way too lazy to do this.

Most of my shows are either at Camden or Philly.
