Quote
DES MOINES, Iowa
Police say the bassist for the Iowa metal band Slipknot has been found dead in a suburban Des Moines hotel room.

Urbandale police say a hotel employee found 38-year-old Paul Dedrick Gray dead in a room at the Town Plaza Hotel. Foul play wasn't suspected.

The Polk County Medical Examiner's Office plans an autopsy Tuesday.

Most Slipknot members grew up in the Des Moines area. The band, known for its grotesque masks, released its first album in 1999. It sold more than 1 million copies.

I...honestly am not sure what to say, other than RIP, and my prayers go out to his wife and family.

I await more news before I make much of any comment.

Much of any comment more than "rock n roll".

Well, it's on wikipedia, I'm guessing it might be true.

Not a massive Slipknot fan but this is very sad.
RIP

As a huge Slipknot fan for many years, I'm torn up by this. I am the owner of #slipknot on an mIRC server, and have always had a special thing for the band. Being through a lot of shit, the lyrics always helped.

RIP

By the way, I mean my comment in a "these things tend to happen in the rock/metal music business, and it's sadly believable that that could be the case", not in a "FUCK YEAH" sense.

Thought I should clarify that.

Hate to be a burster of bubbles, but this made me laugh.

RIP bass dude. I want to know how he died.

drug overdose apparently

and yes, I see how ridiculous that wiki comment sounds but I meant that when deaths are on locked wikipedia pages that normally means they are true

They say deaths come in threes.  Hopefully this is the third and final for a while (The Rev, Dio, this dude).

RIP

The Rev was quite a while ago.

Plus, that's drummer, singer, bassist. If we get a guitarist, maybe then God will cease with the life-ending shenanigans.

Lock Petrucci in a safe room until a guitarist OTHER than him dies.

R.I.P. Paul

A great bass player, with plenty of interesting tunings throughout the career. Slipknot is an excellent band, the first metal band I've ever listened to, so they pretty much changed my life. If I haven't discovered Duality back in 2004, I seriously doubt I would be where I am today. Too bad the band lost an important member...

I spoke to a bus driver I know today, he told me he only heard about Paul Gray and not Dio. May they rest in peace.

I think there should be a bit more respect shown in this thread, this has obviously devestated a lot of people. Whether you like the band or not a genuinely great guy has died, leaving a wife, family and many close friends behind.

This press conference with the band members really makes it hit home.

Moving stuff.  A sad thing, he was obviously very loved, and by the sounds, Slipknot's future may be in doubt.

RIP Paul.

The other day, I was at guitar center and saw a lady wearing a Slipknot hoody. On the back it read "WE DON'T DIE".

I began laughing for 5 straight minutes.

Sometimes I can be a terrible, terrible person.

Paul Gray may be dead, but his influence and music never will. The Slipknot lyric that came true was "They'll never take us alive" from the song until we die

Okay, I understand and respect your opinion. I still find it rather humorous, regardless.
