I thought this would be interesting.
Riff: This one is easy. CKY - 96 Quite Bitter Beings. Absolutely no contest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgQ7qOCDFYQ
Solo: A bit harder, most of my favorite solos are by Petrucci. If I had to pick I'd go with the solo from In The Presence of Enemies Part 1, 2:10-4:10.
Your turn.
-
Riff: Gojira - Flying Whales starting at 4:55
Solo: Probably the second solo in Windowpane
-
My god this is hard......
Riff: i'd go with Kashmir
Solo: Comfortably numb, Pretty epic!!!!!!!
-
Very very difficult.
Riff: Battery or He Man Woman Hater
Solo: Sweet Child O Mine
-
Riff - Guthrie Govan - Waves
Riff/Solo - Jeff Loomis - Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor @ 7.13
Solo - John Petrucci - Stream Of Consciousness @ 3.50
-
Riff--Kiss War Machine
Solo-- Rush Mission(end solo)
-
Solo - NM 156 by Mike Wilton/Chris DeGarmo (Queensryche)
Riff - that's really difficult...a ton of memorable riffs.

solo: JP - Scarred
-
If I had to take one riff... probably the bad ass riff in Black Sabbath's Megalomania
-
Riff: Probably either something from Meshuggah (such as "Bleed") or The Dillinger Escape Plan's "43% Burnt" :metal.
Solo: I have no idea. Possibly Rush's "Jacob's Ladder."
-
The riff that started it all for me: Wake Up by Rage Against The Machine
Solo: Honestly there isn't a solo that conveys more emotion and pure amazingness in my mind right now than Blackbird by Alter Bridge. That duel solo is above and beyond on so many levels.

I will attempt to weigh in on this when I'm not drunk.

Or, you could weigh in on it now, and later see how your drunk favorites and your actual favorites match up.
Just an idea.

I will say tha tthe solo to "Slide It In" by Whitesnake uis one of my favorites. Gotta thinks on it soime.

I have no idea what your post says. I can't read it. You can figure out why. For some reason my eyes keep veering left.

You are buzzed. :D And what the hell are you doing home so early?!
-
:rollin
-
Riff : ITNOG
Solo : LITS
-
Riff: Sea of Lies by Symphony X or Bleak by Opeth, or something by Iced Earth (Too damn many to have one all time favorite)
Solo: Hollow Years solo Live at Budokan
-
Best riff and solo?
Oh man, so many Godsmack songs to choose from.
-
You kidder, you.

This is probably as it should be. I have a hard time reading what I've posted also, for the same reason.

Hehe. That wasn't TOO early, really. A few weeks ago we were at our usual dive til around 1 AM (this is after getting there about 4:15). Fuzzy Friday in effect.
On topic, I gotta think on this some more. I couldn't name JUST one of either, it would have to be at least a few of each.

He's mainly vomiting into a bucket.

Riff would have to be the main one to Suicide by Devin Townsend
-
Solo is an easy pick. The closing solo from The Best Of Times. Technicality and emotion have never been fused so perfectly.
As for riff I would say Fossil Genera - A Feed From Cloud Mountain at about 5:30.
-
Riff- You Really Got Me, Dave Davies of The Kinks (is there really any other??)
Solo- Leap of Faith, Mike Holmes of IQ
-
Riff - Revival. The riff in the outro. God, that pinch! :metal :metal :metal
Solo - Scarred easily.
-

This is my problem as well. I think favorite riff would probably be a Zeppelin song though, or maybe something super-heavy, like the riff in "Blackwater Park" around 9:42, though its incredibly difficult to just pick one. Favorite solo is the same way, but the dueling guitars in "Welcome Home," Dave Murray's "Powerslave" solo, "Comfortably Numb," "The Best of Times" outro (DT), and Mikael's solo in "Arriving Somewhere" would all be high contenders...dammit can't we just change the thread to "top ten" of each?"
-
Riff: Iron Maiden - 'Revelations', after Adrian's solo.
Solo: This is tough. Maybe 'Voices'?
-
Riff: Ugh, huge toss up! The Glass Prison, In The Name of God, Hallowed Be Thy Name, and Stream of Consciousness being the front runners...
Solo: Hollow Years (L@B)
-
The ending riff of Porcupine Tree's Time Flies. When I saw them play that live last week, it was pure ecstasy.
-
My absolute favorite riff of all time is the intro to "Ride the Lightning".
Solo? That's tough. I'll have to think about it.
