The "Put Your Media Player On Shuffle. What Are The First Ten Songs That Come Up?" thread got me thinking, how many songs do you have on your computer?
I'm now at 1567 songs. I had about 3400 songs before my computer crashed. Mostly prog rock and metal. Honestly I don't listen to other genres that much.
-
1331 songs
I buy albums, so it's bound to be a lot less than most.
-
Currently, my iPod (which is where I keep all my music, it's an 80 gig) has 9213 songs on it, but I just ripped three albums which I need to put on there, so it'll be over 9250 once I'm done that.

1500 and something. All Metal/Prog. (progsnob)
-
5416 songs... I really wish I had the money to buy everything legally, but I'm only 18 and currently do not have a job. :-\
-
It's around 7000.
-
My My Music directory has the following stats;
51.6G
17,483 files , 1,289 folders
All but 207 songs are taken from my psychical cd's I've purchased. I still have tons of cd's that aren't on the computer.
-
It's around 30 000 songs.

5410 on my computer. I also buy CD's and there are some albums that I haven't ripped yet.
-
3000 or so songs, mostly metal.

What's wrong with that? I couldn't afford to buy lots of albums when I was in school but I've bought about 99% of all the albums that I "obtained" and actually liked since then. I will be buying that 1% I haven't got yet, by the way.

1422 songs. Most are from CDs I own or got from my brother... some have been acquired by other means...

It's that "I can't afford it, so I'll just steal it" attitude that is so prevalent with far too many people these days.

But it's totally understandable in every way. A passion for music shouldn't be determined by how rich you are.

Thank you.
Guess I won't get used to the fact that this seems to be a "normal" attitude these days. If you don't support the artists you like, how will they be able to make music one day?
AcidRain: you are an exception for buying the songs you downloaded illegally before. How many do you think do that?
But we're OT now. Sorry.
-
Around 10,000 or so.
-
To be honest, I only ever *marklar* albums that are either ridiculously overpriced (PT's "Recordings", Chroma Key's first two releases) or stuff that is unavailable for purchase.
If the artist/record label is not going to provide a reasonable means of purchasing their album, I'm sure they would want me to enjoy their music in any case.
-
22,819 on the computer, just over 5000 of those on the ipod.
-
I'm on 5,730 songs.
About half of my music comes from bought CDs and the other half from occasional trades with friends. Well, actually, let's say 50% bought, 45% traded, and 5% downloaded.

No one said that, and no, it is not totally understandable in every way. How would you like it if the work you created, the work that you do for a living, was stolen by people instead of them paying for it? I am guessing you wouldn't like it all.
The way I see it, downloading is like borrowing a CD from someone or having someone rip a copy for you, which EVERYONE has done: If you like what you hear, go out and buy a copy of it, instead of sticking with your ripped copy or your downloaded mp3s. There are many, many positives to downloading, but the biggest drawback is people just downloading and then not buying what they like. On the flip side, all of the record companies are knuckleheads for not adapting to the downloading culture a little quicker. Had they, they might be in better shape right now.
Not trying to be off topic here, but given the intent of the thread, it is inevitable that this kind of chatter will take place, especially when people talk about having a bunch of music they didn't pay for.

As someone who writes music, I would be flattered just to know that someone was a fan of my art. But I think it would be different if I had a record deal, because then I'm not getting any notoriety from the label, they probably won't fund my next album well, and the effort I put into directing the artwork and packaging goes unappreciated.
So I buy albums.
-
4706 songs right now
-
1585.

The thing I find amusing about the whole downloading thing is when you have 15 year olds with 10,000+ song libraries. Or the people who are checking out 50-100 new releases every year. All I can think is, how much of that library's actually getting, or once had, a decent listen?
-
Dunno about my computer, but my iPod has about 802 songs on it. I'd maybe figure 50-100 more on my computer, maybe.
-
I don't have any on my computer, I keep them on iPod and in an external hard drive. iPod has 14339, harddrive has somewhere around 16000.
-
4992 Songs
456 Albums
187.48 GB
All in Apple Lossless Codec for full audio pleasure. :heart

i have 3778 tracks on my computer

Counting bootlegs? uncountable. 220 gigs+ (mostly lossless)
5266 on my iPod.
-
Around 10,000 or so.
-
5548 songs, but I have at least another 100 or so from CDs I've picked up recently and have yet to add to my library.
-
2336 total, but I only listen to about 610.

I've been around for a while, and I had worked music retail in management for a LONG time. I've now got around 345Gig of music, totaling a touch more than 44,000 songs.
