I know I'm going to catch a lot of criticism for this, but I'm just listening to my EP version of Systematic Chaos on iTunes and appreciating how amazingly awesome it is when you rearrange the tracks a bit and cut out the 21 minutes of PoW and TMOLS that, to me, create way too much of a lull that make me lose interest in the album.
My track list and track order:
ITPOE1
ITPOE2
Forsaken
Constant Motion
Repentence
TDEN
Perfection.
-
Nice. I'm not nuts about Constant Motion, but I can see this working out a lot better. I recently did this with Opeth's Watershed (cutting off the last two tracks).
-
I was going to start cutting songs I would get rid of ITPOE Part 2 and Forsaken before anything else.
-
*criticizes*
-
Is there a way I can get rid of both "Forsaken" and "Constant Motion," but keep the guitar solos?
-
Didn't you make this thread like, 6 months ago? :lol
Anyway I agree with cutting Ministry, but PoW is awesome.
-
Remove PoW only = Awesome.
-
Systematic Chaos minus Constant Motion, Forsaken, and Prophets of War = tasty.
-
Forsaken, Prophets of War, and TMOLS are my favorite songs off the album.
-
I really like TMOLS but I don't like PoW...
-

:'(

The Ministry of Lost Souls is one of the best parts of the album. Cut The Dark Eternal Night instead.
-
Yeah, I would prefer to lose POW and TDEN myself.

alright. first sentence = (https://fc02.deviantart.net/fs31/f/2008/209/8/1/emoticon_guitar_solo__D_by_TheBigBadFish.gif) :metal
second sentence =

this
TMOLS is kinda meh too though, just because of the instrumental section.
-
Just get rid of The Reckoning from ITPOE 2 and cut a minute or two off the end of Repentance and you have a much better record.
-
"The Ministry of Lost Souls" is the best, most beautiful song from the past two albums, in my opinion. Personally, that would be the last thing I would cut.
-

Wtf, wrong way round.

PoW would be the first one to go for me.
-
The guitar solo in TMOLS would make a great album.
Seriously, that solo is bitchin'.
-
Remove Prophets of War and then I think it is a much better album.
-
You guys suck, Prophets of War is one of the best tracks on that record. Whether that says more about my opinion of the record or my opinion of the track I will leave up to you.
-
I recently did this with Opeth's Watershed (cutting off the last two tracks).

Srsly this. Hessian Peel is too amazing to leave off.
As for an EP version of Systematic Chaos, if you took off TDEN and CM too I think it would be better. Of course, "Forsaken" and "Repentance" are the only songs from SC that I listen to with any regularity.

FINALLY! Someone gets it. CM and TDEN are two of the worst songs in their entire catalog. I would rank the below album in top 5 easily, maybe top 4.
I don't particularly like Repentance/PoW where they are, but don't know how else to situate them. I personally like the separation of ItPoE, and love Ministry. Forsaken and PoW are good songs I enjoy as well.
In the Presence of Enemies pt 1
Forsaken
Repentance (up till the apologies start)
Prophets of War
The Ministry of Lost Souls
the Presence of Enemies pt 2 * Damn cut-and-paste *
-
itpoe1 twice?
-
You guys suck, Prophets of War is one of the best tracks on that record. Whether that says something about the record or the track I will leave up to you
Well, it certainly says something about you.
-
Fair enough.
-

My thoughts exactly. :lol
-
Well, at least I edited it so that it makes sense now.
-
Omg, not another "Systematic Chaos EP" thread...
The album is perfect the way it is. Period.
-
Just so everyone's aware, 79-21 = 58. Which, if nothing else, is proof that this was intentional and the band wanted everyone to nix those songs.
(Even though I quite like POW and TMOLS.)
-
*criticizes*
Word.
-
79-21=58!!!!
FUCKIN' NUGGETS, HOW DO THEY WORK?????

Which is obviously why so many people have responded in this thread to the contrary.

I see the idea of "majority is always right" is still alive and doing well.

It's pretty much their weakest album, and if it were perfect, it wouldn't be. Lots of cool moments, tons of lame moments.

Trains is good, Conceiving You is not, and Systematic Chaos is DT's worst album that isn't pulled down by Dominici or corporate meddling.
-

..and 6 months before that..
...and 6 months before that! :\
-
Another ''which songs should we cut out to make SC a better album'' thread...
The answer - none. All of the songs are great in their own way. Overall, I'd even say Systematic chaos is my 4th favorite Dream Theater album.
:metal :metal :metal
-
Yeah I agree. I love the majesticness of the TMOLS' intro, and it really hits you at the right time. And I think POW works great after the dreariness of Repentance.
-
79-21=58!!!!
FUCKIN' NUGGETS, HOW DO THEY WORK?????
I was just about to post that!

They are designed by a higher power. They are beyond your comprehension
-
:lol
What did DT get their fanbase into when they started that stuff?
-
I see the idea of "majority is always right" is still alive and doing well.
If it were perfect, you wouldn't be the only one who thinks it is perfect. That's all I'm saying.
-
I see the idea of "majority is always right" is still alive and doing well.
It's not about right or wrong but rather popular opinion.
-

It's not about right or wrong but rather popular opinion.
But normally, the majority's opinion contributes to what's called or considered "objective" within music.

True, but to a smaller degree since opinions are mostly "subjective".

Well, opinions are always subjective. :P

Not mine.

Objectively speaking? LOL

Not mine.
Your soul is mine.

What soul? I'm jewish.

Hard to argue with that :tup
