Every time I hear the song I just think of how similar it sounds to DT (well at least I think it sounds similar). Any other FFVI fans that love this song think that it would be the most badass thing if DT covered it and made it all wanky?
the main part I am talking about is starting at 4:00

all the black mages songs are awesome..
i can imagine DT play Clash On The Big Bridge
-
I can imagine JR dressed as Kefka for this one already :metal
-
The Black Mages version is enough, can't see DT really adding much to it.

Ragtime plus a 64th-note-laden instrumental section clocking in around 6 minutes?

The Black Mages version has one of my favorite solos ever. It's a great song.

Well, JP could add a whole guitar part, I didn't notice any "guitars" throughout the whole track. But apart from that, I think it's pretty much complete.

Is that a cover or the PS1 soundtrack? It sounds cool.

It's the version by The Black Mages (the rock band with Nobuo Uematsu on organ that covers FF tunes) that I was referring to.
-
Ah, alright. Sorry, I thought you meant the original SNES soundtrack. Never mind, then.

This makes me wonder if half the people who claim to "love" the Final Fantasy soundtracks are even aware of Progressive Rock/Metal.
Because if not they'd shit bricks if they listened to Dream Theater :P

Wtf? I love the FF soundtracks and I listen to plenty of prog rock/metal.

I am aware of the black mages version but except for the guitar solo there really isn't much guitar. And I am thinking like guitar and synth harmonies over most of the organ parts and then the last part everyone going nuts with 1/604325 notes. It would be so sweet.
-
No I didn't mean it like that, I mean that you see plenty of these teenage Final Fantasy fanboys that think that the Final Fantasy soundtracks are completley original and amazing (not that I'm saying there not) and I bet they're completley unaware that theres a whole genre of music that sounds very much like them.
Didn't mean any offence, and certainly wasn't refering to anyone on this board :(
-
I got what you meant by it. :tup
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osdHg6K4M_M :metal I can see DT doing this
-
This makes me think how perfect Paradigm Shift would be for the battle music in FF XV
-
Or when you do a Paradigm Shift in XIII :neverusethis:

Sounds terrible.

On the whole FF soundtrack music sounds nothing like prog. :lol

I hear Deep Purple in it more often than anything. But I can certainly understand how some tracks could remind someone of some prog rock.
-
Yeah, "some" tracks, out of hundreds. There are far more tracks that are reminiscent of classical music, film scores, and light pop.

Dream Theater can't rival Nobuo when it comes to writing a decent melody though.

Dancing Mad is amazing. The only thing that DT can do with the song is cover those final 4 minutes (guitar solo to the end).
