this is a thread for you to post what songs and on what instrument you are currently working on. Just to share your progress, and even ask for tips if there is a part you don't get
post the band and song you are playing, and on what instrument, then write whatever you want after.
I am currently working on in the name of god [dream theater of course] on the drums. I have all of it done up until 5:30 pretty good [only been playing this song for one day] I am just a fast learner I guess, lol.
Anyways, does anyone know how to play the part on the toms after that? I am having trouble, and I ca't hear what he is playing on that part. And i can't even see what he is playing in his video because he is blocking the view. So, tell me if you have any suggestions for the song after 5:30.
-
right now i've spent a couple hours on Funeral for a Friend by Elton John on piano. I love it. other than that for bass in school i just have to get down Satisfaction by the Stones and Long Tall Sally by Little Richard for Tuesday.
-
@icysk8r: I bet there are videos on YouTube where MP plays ITNOG entirely with a high camer so you can watch what he's doing. Or you could also buy his drumming DVD's

the only one of him playing was on the side, and it was from his dvd. :-[ so, I am out of luck. The only other person I culd look to would be gspot27, but he doesn't have itnog recorded. :tdwn

I'm currently working on Erotomania (Dream Theater) on bass since my band is working on a cover of that song. I love it and i don't necessarily have any problems with playing it.

Right at the beginning of that section of the Budokan DVD, you really see what he's playing with the camera at his left side and a little bit behind him since he has the part of his set in the way.

I'm working on a rhapsody in the key of G on my banjo/guitar. I feel as if I'm about half way through it. In terms of other peoples music I'm currently trying to record a version of Blend by Sandy Bull
-
I figured out what I can do. I am going to use his drums only video of this. It is just so hard because his hand move so fast
EDIT: damn, shouldn't have said the last part. acidrain is going to post next...
-
Almost done perfecting Quotes by dredg, it's not hard but some parts are a little tricky, and it's hard to get it sounding right.
-
Behind Blue Eyes by The Who. I have it down perfectly on guitar, I'm just learning how to sing while playing it now.
-
Starting today, working my way through the "The Spirit Carries On" solo. Fucking HELL. I'm not a very proficient guitarist when it comes to speed picking, so it's been taking me a while to get to speeds remotely close to the actual tempo. I don't know why I'm working on something that's so far above my skill level, because I always give up when I do! :P

i find doing that really helps, you have to challenge yourself to get further.

This is true, but there are easier things out there that would still be far above my skill level.

I misinterpreted the thread title when I first read it but I'm posting based on that misinterpretation instead:
I'm currently working on a song to which I have assigned the working title 'Lightfire'. I write all of the music for my band, and Lightfire is the second-last track (7th of 8) to be written for the album we hope to record over the summer. While I write the majority of the lyrics, our bassist composed the lyrics for this song. Our drummer (setrataeso) has also contributed some lyrics.

Tom Sawyer on bass at the moment ... progress is pretty slow cos I'm not very talented :P

i for one do not believe in talent, just a great disposition to learning things quicker. give it time, and make sure you play it right, and you play it like you own it.

I write my own stuff too. I have 4/7 tracks done for an album title "serenity of a dream". I played all the demo instruments with a keyboard and electronic drumset. When i re-record the actual songs, I am using all real instruments. Too bad the only guitarist I have is mediocre... But, I guess my stuff isn't too had, and he can record in parts....
-
I'm a guitarist and I'm going through a DT phase (for obvious reasons) and have been playing Voices for a while, though I obviously cant nail the solo.
I'm pretty close to getting Erotomania though.
-
Just going through the Alestorm discography in sequence. Only just started, so I only have Over the Seas and Captain Morgan's Revenge down at the moment. :yarr
-
Currently learning Lines in the Sand on bass.
I can't find music that has the harmonics though
-

if i knew them i'd tell ya, never learned that part.
-
I was working on in the name of god. I was just about to learn the part I have been dreading. and what happens? My snare won't turn off completely. and it sounded like the snares were snagged on something. I turn my snare over and what do I find? A huge hold in my snare head, and it was snagged on the snares and thats why they weren't turning off. So I am not left with a broken bottom SNARE head, and It is sunday. no stores open. >:( :censored >:(
-
I'm also learning Blind Faith. It's really fun to play so far
-
It is just so hard because his hand move so fast
That's
what
she
said.
-
I have been learning Stream of Consciousness (by DT). I am mainly just hung up on parts of the solos. And I just put higher gauge strings on my guitar, so it's taking a bit longer to adapt.
-
I am going to re-learn the entire Maiden catologue on guitar and include the solos this time. For fun. Maybe just doing Adrians guitar.
-

That's a huge task to take on but I commend you for being so bold. Keep us posted on how that goes.
-
In Tears by Rush, in guitar, i play bass but this is a beatiful guitar song, chords make my hand hurt

Ha yeah, well its pretty much just learning solo's etc, I learnt guitar playing along to my brother's Maiden collection so they're pretty much all ingrained. And tbh they're not all that complicated (sans solos) :lol

Oh so you're already relatively far along? Cool.

I'm working on the guitar part in Glasgow Kiss all the way up to before the solo. I think it's a bit out of my league but I've been practicing a lot. I have an evaluation tonight where I play it in front of a few people who will just watch and take notes on my performance. The only thing I'm worried about is that I don't have nearly enough experience playing in front of people, and I know that I get extremely shaky. That's not good, especially since the song is hard enough to play as it is. I've also noticed that I'm sloppy on some parts recently that I thought I could do better before. An example is when the main/beginning theme is repeated but transposed up. I always mess up when I get to the higher strings- possibly because of how I hold the pick or the guitar. I'm really not sure.
-
I played Beyond This Life properly for the first time today, and was surprise how difficult it is. I really enjoyed it, I love challenged on guitar.
-
a bunch of random easy modern rock/metal for a cover band that i'm involved in, we're also doing bat country by avenged sevenfold and it seems i underestimated the difficulty of that song. it's gonna take a while before that one's fit to be played out.
-
Can a mod move this to the Musician's board?
Anyway, I finally perfected A Rite of Passage and Lines in the Sand. I'm looking to start working on The Count of Tuscany now
-
Muse- Knights of Cydonia on the drums.
Me and my 2 other buddies are going to play some muse covers tomorrow at a party that im going to have. Sure Muse is simple at times but its fun to play and im not really a great musician i just like to play songs that i can and that i like.
-
I'm planning on learning Clair de Lune by Debussy, for the piano of course.
Has anyone played this piece? How difficult is it to play?
-
Working on the first half of The Count of Tuscany on bass.
-
I'm currently working on Fur Elise on Piano. It's going well. Has anyone ever mastered this and performed it? If so, How did it go?

Yeah, but I usually look over the bass line.
And you never need to worry about drum lines for me. I fix them up in the end.

Yeah, I know. :tup
-
Working on Metropolis Pt 1 on guitar. Up to the first Guitar/Keys unison. Trying to get it all alternate picking and up to speed so its taking me a while. Love it.
-
I have several, all on bass:
Queen-Another One Bites the Dust. Not too bad. Just need to work on making it smoother.
Coheed and Cambria-Blood Red Summer. Another easy one.
Coheed and Cambria-Devil in Jersey City. Mostly easy with some difficult bits to work on.
Rush-Limelight. Not too difficult, not too easy, some parts in the solo/near the end giving me trouble, but I'm having loads of fun with it.
Iron Maiden-Aces High. Told I should learn this from one of my friends (who knows it on guitar and thinks we should combine talents). Obviously, its hard, but not devilishly hard. Hope to actually seriously try it in a month or so.
Rush-Cygnus X-1. Just doing the instrumental intro for fun sometimes.
-
I'm working on both Erotomania and Scarred, on the guitar.
-
I'm working on both Erotomania and Scarred, on the guitar.
I tried Erotomania a few years back but I couldn't quite manage all of it. Perhaps when my band has finished recording I'll give it another go.
-
I'm fidgeting through Iced Earth's "Something Wicked This Way Comes" album. Just learning all the songs. It's not necessarily the most technically productive or difficult material to work on (not all easy either), but just sounds kick ass and fun to play along with. I also spent a good deal of time tweaking, and got a pretty nice crunchy Schaffer-ish tone. :azn:

Working on Metropolis Pt 1 on guitar. Up to the first Guitar/Keys unison. Trying to get it all alternate picking and up to speed so its taking me a while. Love it.
Do hammer-ons. It's 500 times easier than string skipping while alternate picking. Plus, if you're not playing along with the song it sounds a lot smoother, and it almost sounds like the keys are backing it up too.
Just wait until you get to the big final unison part. You'll wish you were never born.

Yeah I noticed that you were playing it hammer-ons too. I figure it'll be a nice challenge at some point to do it all alternate, but i might just do it hammer-ons for the sake of progressing through the song.

I have, but I don't have much motivation to keep trying. If I can do it with hammer-ons then I don't see any reason to change the way I play it. Unfortunately with the final unison, there's no way around it. You have to either downpick it all extremely fast, (which I might have done. Haven't watched the video in ages.) or suck it up and put forth the extreme effort of learning how to do alternate picking with it.
-
are you guys talking about the part where they usually brake live. the last part of the instrumental. or right after the bass solo.
the last part of the instrumental is much easier for me(not perfect) compared to other spots in the song
-
I'm stuck on the first guitar/keys unison but I think Ultimetalhead is referring to the part after the bass solo... not sure where the live break part is.
-

I was referring to the big finale of the instrumental break. It's right before the clean part and the "Before the leaves have fallen". The part after the bass solo is a bitch as well.
-
Ah yes I know which part you mean, the bu-du-lu-BEH-bu-du-lu-BEH-bu-du-lu-BEH-bu-du-lu-BEH bu-du-lu-BEWAAAAOOOH*pinch harmonic*
:neverusethis:
-
I'm trying to figure out the instrumental section of King Crimson's 21st Century Schizoid Man on the bass. I'm doing it slowly, though, as it is really easy to get lost when playing it and can also get frustrating when trying to figure it out.
-
Can a mod move this to the Musician's board?
Anyway, I finally perfected A Rite of Passage and Lines in the Sand. I'm looking to start working on The Count of Tuscany now
The count of tuscany is fairly easy on bass except for the unison part. And even then, once you learn it, it's just a matter of getting it up to speed.
-
I feel like learning Strange Deja Vu.
-
That song is easy as hell, especially if you're referring to guitar.
-

That's nice to know (not). I don't care how hard or easy something is. And yes, I am referring to guitar.

Geez, man. I'm not trying to attack you. Just because it's an easy song doesn't mean it's not worth learning. Hell, I learned Wedding Nails last night. Both fun, easy songs. :tup

Yea it is kinda easy. I've been practicing the unison, so hopefully it'll be up to speed soon. And I took a look at the music for The Shattered Fortress, and it looks hard as hell, given how fast it's supposed to be played.

Alright, cool. It's just you're the second person mentioning about a song being easy.
Someone in my "Count of Tuscany Cover" thread said something like "It's pretty easy for Dream Theater, so you won't get much praise..."
That's fail right there.

I had the upper hand learning TSF, only because I know all of the other 12 Step songs. I basically had to learn the intro, the outro, and the arrangement hah

Yea the only one I really know is The Root of All Evil. I know bits and pieces of the others though.
I'm looking at DT songs I haven't learned but want to, and Trial of Tears is at the top of the list, but I can't find any music for it. Strange. I also would like to learn Home, A Change of Seasons (I don't know why I haven't tried yet), New Millennium, The Ministry of Lost Souls, and A Fortune in Lies
Oh, and I just learned Blind Faith also. I love playing that one
-
So I looked at Wrathchild and started messing with that today. Lot of fun on the bass.

That is one of the 5 or so things I know on bass. It's a ton of fun on guitar too with all those guitar fills. :metal
-
Right now, learning ITNOG solo, TTTSTA solo, TGP solos. Wicked fast those things.
rumborak
-
I tried learning Stevie Ray Vaughan´s ``Riviera Paradise´´ on guitar but I gave up. Too much complex chords for me :lol.
So now I´m learning Rick Astley ``Never Gonna Give You Up´´ to motivate myself to don´t give up. And also for the lulz.
-
working on dance of eternity on drums. and voices and space dye es ton keyboard. also working my way around milliontown by frost, but not even close.

Can you find out if your bass player picks every note in the fast runs or hammers on/pulls off and if he knows how JM plays it? None of their dvds show his hands at those parts.

OH :D I don't have much of a high profile round here anyway, I don't post as much as the others here.
Thanks for asking :)
-
Hell's Kitchen - DT
Worked out most of the easy bits, just trying to figure out the fast bits :)
-
Money solo- Pink Floyd
I sight read through it, super easy, I just gotta get to the point where it's fluid and I've memorized it all and don't have to look at the notes.
-
Innocence Faded (Outro) - DT
Easy to learn, megahard to actually play along to.
-
I'm working a few songs by dream theater now, I got Keyboard Anthology a few months back. I'm trying to play them on classical piano which actually sounds pretty cool (especially Stream of consciousness ):
* Learning to live on the piano (I'm suprised at how easy this song is compared to the rest of the book)
* Selection from Six Degrees on Inner Turbulence, I skip War Insinde my head and The Test That Stumped Them All because they sound retarded on classic piano. The final solo for Solitary Shell is so fast I'm having problems with that one, so I'm still working on that part.
* Vacant and Stream of consciousness sounds just so cool on classic piano (apart from the synth solo, I also skip that one). I'm now trying to improvise a bit with the last part. The last 4 pages are pretty easy and I'm just trying to give it my own spin. Play it fast, slow, with a different rythm and now I'm trying to transpose it, that took me a while yesterday to get it right but sounds pretty cool now.
* And lastly I started Through My Words (which is easy) and Fatal Tragedy (which is a lot of fun) last week
I also just started Bohemian Rhapsody, but that's not really that hard.
-
Prequel to the Sequel on Drums. I've only been playing 1 year and a half so I don't quite have the chops yet. But still megafun to play along to. I have about 60% of it down pat I'd say
-
I play bass and i've been playing for around 4 years (although i'm not as good as i would want to after 4 years of playing) and i've been working on several projects:
- This Dying Soul by Dream Theater. This is a relativity easy one to play on the bass until we get to the final instrumental section where it's not that hard but im working on my speed.
- (B) The Decade of Statues by Between The Buried and Me. I'm getting into this hardcore music a little more recently and BTBAM is like the perfect mix between my two favorite types of music. This is an easy song except for two riffs which are leaving me playing all over the place.
- A Nightmare To Remember by Dream Theater. I've got this down except for the fast part after the MP vocal section. Like i said, still working on my speed and i hope to have this down sometime in the next week or so.
That's what i'm doing. Any recommendations for exercises that will help me increase my playing speed with both hands?
-
for speed?
MAIDEN. LOTS AND LOTS OF MAIDEN. LEARN STEVE HARRIS AND LEARN HIM WELL
-
I mean left hand speed. I've been working on scales a lot recently and trying to play them faster and faster but i need something that will allow me to play more difficult passages on the fretboard but my left hand just isn't fast enough. :sadpanda:
-
Mode scales can do that.
Do you know your modes?
-
No unless they are called by a different name than mode scales.
-
well, a quick rundown on modes:
Ionian
Dorian
Phrygian
Lydian
Mixolydian
Aeolian
Locrian
Ionian is your standard scale, like C: C D E F G A B C
Dorian is a scale that you base off the second in the root scale
So, a C Dorian would be: D E F G A B C D
Continue that with Phrygian (based off of the third): E F G A B C D E
and so on. Aeolian, which is based off the sixth, is what's known as a relative minor, because it's the same scale as that minor key
A C Aeolian, then, ( A B C D E F G A ), is the same as an A minor scale
did i explain that clearly?
-
Yes. Thanks. :hefdaddy
-
I'm in the middle of creating a GP file of Major mode scales. It's something I used to practice (when I had some free time). I transcribed it for six string bass, so it won't fit every instrument, but when I'm finished, I could share it with anyone who needs it
-
Ok. I'd like a copy then if you wouldn't mind although i play on a 5 string bass.
-
id love to see it, modes always interest me.

Which instrument?

Alright I just finished the Mode tab. Basically, it's an eighth note run of the mode scales, in 4 (so it's tied at the end of each ascending run), beginning with C, and working up to B. For 5 string players, beginning with E you might have to change positions on the fretboard. If you play a four string, I'm afraid this tab might not be any good for you, unless you bump everything an octave... I'm not sure how to share a file through one of those file sites, but I can send the tab as an email attachment. If you're interested, just PM me and I'll get it to you.

coheed and cambria - in keeping secrets of silent earth:3 on drums

Me and a housemate are practicing Dryad of the Woods so we can play that together. I'm going to work on another song myself, thinking about Across the Stars by John Williams.

DT - Octavarium

DT - Octavarium
That is one fun song.
Definitely. I am learning random parts and then will eventually have it all down. I am just about done learning the Razor's Edge solo, and it's ridiculously satisfying to play along with. I could play it over and over for an hour (or at least until I've eroded enough skin on my fingers :P).

I can still never get that last run... what about you? and those arpeggios in the instrumental section after Full Circle. Dayum.
-
Wish You Were Here- Pink Floyd. Never taken a guitar lesson in my life, but I've been teaching myself for a while You can still image how long it's gonna take me.
-
I'm trying to get that run at the beginning of ITPOE1 on bass. The rest is pretty basic, but that one run is really tricky. I've got the muscle memory no prob, and I can play it at the right speed after a couple of warm up runs, but I'm really, really sloppy at it. I need a lot more consistency, I always either do it too slowly, or hit a few duff notes towards the end.
Ah well, I'll get there eventually! Practice makes perfect etc. I'm a lot better now than I was a month ago.

Yeah I haven't totally gotten down that run. It's a bit sloppy for now, but it works.

It's really hard on bass. But practice, practice, practice. That's the key
-
Second solo in Erotomania - I'm like 99% on this one now. :D
The rest of Erotomania - Probably 80%. A bit stuck after the classical sounding bit, if you know what section I'm on about.
Beyond This Life - Really fun rock out song. I even worked out the keyboard solo for guitar :P
The Audience is Listening - Wow, learnt this last week and haven't stopped playing it.
Cliffs of Dover - Enough said. Classic guitar tune. Can't do the improv. intro though, but I don't mind because I don't like the sound of it anyway.
-
Right now I'm working on a cover of nocturne by Peter Ciluzzi
video of him playing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBZbO5MfnIk
It's tough as hell, just the time and the nuances are very hard to get.
-
Today I started Space-dye Vest, I first started playing it to try the song, but when I found out it's easy as hell I took the cd and just played along. Hell this song is so much fun, very very easy and sounds beautiful on classic piano.
-
Going back to the beginning. Playing the Majesty Demos on drums.
Another Won, Your Majesty, and March of the Tyrant are the fun ones to play. Two Far has a short but sweet intro, Vital Star is pretty samey, and A Vision is really boring.

The hardest part on bass is the fill at the end of Full Circle. All the rest is fairly straight forward

It really is one of the best sounding solos I can play, especially after playing through Octavarium first. The final bend to the high F which holds for over four bars is killer on your bending finger though.

Yeah def. Sometimes I cheat though and just bend and use whammy for vibrato. :P
-
Starting on A Nightmare to Remember. Damn this is fast.
Then I'm going to attempt New Millennium, as arranged for a six string...
-
Octavarium on the drums. Those fills on medicate are impossible!
-
I'm working on a few things for various bands... (all on drums)
Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down.......... hate the song, but metal-izing it with double bass and much more
Cowboys From Hell - Pantera......... have it down almost perfectly note-for-note
Communication Breakdown - Led Zeppelin.... haven't started yet, but will within a few days
-
Tears in Heaven...FUCK I HATE FINGER PICKING AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
-
The Count of Tuscany and In the Presence of Enemies are the two songs I practice the most at the moment I think. Oh and I'm also struggling with the final 15% of full speed on the Erotomania guitar solo.
-

That took me SOO LONG to get.
-
Made some real progress on Scarred today. I have up to the unison down pat, and I took a look at the sweeping at the end of the solo to get a jump on practicing that.

That Scarred solo is so ridiculous. The sweeps at the end often just make me laugh when I try them.

They aren't really that hard. But, those two patterns are ones I practice a lot. It's getting them together that fast, and then zooming back down to the chorus riff.
-
Santeria and Boys Don´t cry :P. Preparing it with my recently formed band.
It's incredible how easy those songs are after what you have tried to do all your life is to learn DT songs.
-
I finished polishing of Wait For Sleep a while ago. I love that song on piano. Ill probably play it at a piano recital or something, then Ill probably learn some Thrice ;D
-
Space-Dye Vest.
The first DT piece I i will be reading sheet music for, which I am not that good at.
-
Steve Vai-The Crying Machine and K'm-Pee-Du-Wee
Joe Satriani-Always With Me, Always With You
for a friends recital, he plays guitar.
-
I'm working on The Backtrack, The Decade of Statues, and Informal Gluttony on bass by Between The Buried and Me.
-
I'm working on getting all the Maiden songs I like down on bass.
-
Drums-Baba O'Reilly (KEITH MOON :heart)
Violin-Some Debussy piece in E flat (I can't remeber the entire title...)
Guitar- All My Loving: The Beatles, The Reach: Dan Fogelberg, Black: Pearl Jam
-
Now learning Genesis - Firth of Fifth
and I want to learn These Walls, but I'm wondering. I saw music for it, and it looks like it's in A tuning. Is this right?
-
DRUMS
Creeping Death - Metallica
Dyers Eve - Metallica
-
On bass:
-The Real Me: Damn, the hammer-on madness bit is getting me.
-Harvest-Opeth: Just because there's an "open mic" night at school where you can perform. Everyone loves acoustic douchebags, but I know friends who aren't douchebags and happen to play guitar. Seems like a song we could play...
-Slave Called Shiver-Porcupine Tree
-Prodigal-Porcupine Tree
-
The Count of Tuscany, just got the part at 9:37 down: the guitar craziness right before the swells.
-
Learning Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf" on guitar.
-
Learning Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf" on guitar.
:tup
-
Practicing the keys for ITPOE pt. 2 and Ministry of Lost Souls. Along with the latter I'm playing The Lost Etude.
-
I think my next beast is TDEN on bass. I kinda sorta learned parts of it before, but then stopped learning it and kinda forget it now.
-
Currently jamming along with Dredg's 'Pariah'. Love the main riff, and the way the guitars sound. I really like that defined overdriven telecaster sound, in favor of the more 'metal-ish' sounds of distorted Ibanez or PRS guitars.
-
Learning various covers for a series of Unplugged shows my band is planning. Figured out Regression/The Spirit Carries On by ear. Trying to convince the bassist to learn Space Dye Vest on the keys. Toying with Halford's Silent Screams, Priest's Beyond the Realms of Death, a bunch of various Danzig related tracks etc. Just throwing out all the ideas of more mellow tracks but with a dark element to them. Any suggestions?
-
Working on The Best of Times on guitar (Yes, solo and all!). You can expect a tab on Ultimateguitar.com in the coming weeks.
-

yikes good luck with that one. i haven't even attempted it yet :lol
-
Images and Words. Been drumming to the album day after day and night after night. Everything but Take the Time I have down. It's just very tiring with the constant bass drumming. Kills the thighs.
-
I've only ever learned Wait For Sleep and Another Won on keyboards (I think?)
I'm gonna look for some more DT songs to learn soon. Suggestions?

Bump.
I just started Serpent's Kiss, by Symphony X. I probably won't get the solo down very well, but it's just a fun song to riff out to. :metal
-
Im still just starting to pick up guitar, so I'm gonna start learning some Tenacious D songs.
Fun, simple, yet rocking. And plus most of the music is for acoustic guitar, which is all I have.
-
Working on most of Awake now.
It's basically just Erotomania, Voices, and LSoaD that I have yet to get down properly.
-
One of my favorite solos.....Bark at the Moon :metal :metal :metal
-
Tornado Of Souls and Dyers Eve on drums.
-
I feel somewhat inadequate after all of the crazy stuff you guys are learning, but the Sweet Child O Mine solo on guitar. :blush I need to get batteries for my Wah once I've got it fully down, it sounds so empty otherwise.
-
Just got down Firth of Fifth
I want to tackle These Walls, but apparently the tuning is Drop A. Is this accurate?

More practice using the bass drum and your legs will allow you to do that longer.
-
I just finished learning all the key parts to Lines in the Sand. We played it in its entirety today and it sounded awesome. :hat
-
Since I like how well it flows, I'm learning Caught In A New Millenium. Pretty much got it all down, just need a couple fills here and there. I forgot, I'm learning it on Bass.
I want to learn more chords though for guitar so I can attempt to try Lindsey Buckingham - Go Insane acoustic.
-
Our other guitarist has been on a kick to get us to learn some country, because crowds will dig it. As much as I hate country, I have to choke back my disgust and learn the damn tunes. I know it will be for the best, as people WILL dig it (around here). We're learning:
Brad Paisley - Online
Zac Brown Band - Chicken Fried
Trailer Choir - Rockin' the Beer Gut
I'm literally in hell. That last song is likely the most ridiculous song I've ever heard, and that's even after having listened to "Satan Spawn (The Caco-Demon)" by Deicide.

A most excellent song.
-
Satan Spawn? It's actually kinda funny - My brother and I were huge fans of Doom when it first came out on the PC. And for long after, even. If you aren't familiar, there's a huge floating one-eyed thing in the game called a cacodemon. He told me he was on the way home from work, flipped the sattelite radio to the metal channel or something and this song just happened to come on. He called me immediately. The reference made him think of Doom, but the song had him laughing pretty much the entire time. I am not capable of taking the song seriously at all, it's more an amusement factor. Impressiive musicianship though, despite not being able to understand any of it.
On the other hand, "Rockin' the Beer Gut" is about a guy walking into a bar and being attracted to a chick with a beer gut. It's one of the most pathetically godawful things I have ever been made to listen to. Not to mention entirely unrealistic.
-
Currently, I'm working on Splintering Heart, King (both by Marillion) and Cut To The Chase (by Rush) on bass. Starting today, I'm going to transcribe the bass parts of the Marillion songs with Guitar Pro since I can't make out all the little fills spontaneously.
-
Paradise Lost by Sympony X. Can't find any great Guitar Pro tabs though; the one I have apparently the guy gave up making the tabs at certain parts.
-
For piano/keyboards
Wait For Sleep
Space Dye Vest
I'm also trying to compose something, it starts really slow at 5/4, A minor. I'll post a recording if I finish it.
-
Cacodemon
Doom
Win.
Edit: Win with picture.

Im working on The Seance by Porcupine Tree on the acoustic. Im not using tabs or anything and just playing by ear. Ive been playing guitar for awhile but im still not really a "shredder" or anything. I just like to play some good songs that have a lot of diversity and PT is a good band for that :)
Lips of Ashes is probably going to be the next one. Im loving that song!

-
Fantasie Impromptu - Chopin
:hefdaddy I loovvveeee that song.

I finished up Wait For Sleep after playing it for quite a while, and even played it at two or my paino recitals.
I'm gonna move on to more piano-driven DT; Space Dye Vest! ;D
-
I just started working on A Rite Of Passage on drums, and might eventually do Pull Me Under.
-
To Zanarkand from Final Fantasy :tup
-
Been working on "Would?" and "Man In The Box", both by Alice In Chains.
-
The Unforgiven(not II or III). Learned it in about 5 hrs. and just need to work out a rough spot in that sequence of triplets right before that repeating 12th fret a minor lick and I should be good.
-
OK, I've worked out all of Addicted. Now to work out something more challenging - Ziltoid. :2metal:
Can we get a Ziltoid emote now?
-
I need to learn more Yes...
Also, learning Elton John - Saturday Nights Alright For Fighting
-
Working hard on A Change of Seasons.
I have the seperate parts down. It's nailing it all together that is proving tricky.
-
Yes - Roundabout
(TDoL made me :P)
And I think I'm going to add a few more Rush songs to my repertoire afterwards. Suggestions?
La Villa Strangiato
Hemispheres
Working Man
-
I've been working on bits of Scarified by Racer X lately, along with relearning Paginini's 5th caprice.
Reminiscence - Suikoden 2 :heart
One of my favorite games. I don't remember this particular song though...

The arpeggios at the end are surprisingly easy to play and learn, yet tons and tons of fun
-
Slayer's "South Of Heaven" on drums. :metal
-
I'm currently tabbing out and learning Meshuggah's New Millenium Cyanide Christ and Dream Theater's Overture 1928 on drums, and then importing them into DTXmania.
-
Attempting to re-learn Another Won on bass.
I dunno if I'd say I'm "working on it", but I've been playing The Shattered Fortress a lot lately. My band's new guitarist and I are also working on a new song with the working title "Paper Pyramid".
Partially co-writing this song (not really though, it's the guitarist's baby) and co-writing lyrics.
-
Attempting to re-learn Another Won on bass.
You should attempt to learn to not forget how to play songs.

Intro solo to TCOT.
Pretty fun to play, with some challenging parts.
-
The Count of Tuscany and Octavarium
I'm almost done with Count, but the insanely long scale part in Octavarium is just a pain.

Just ordered the "Keyboard Anthology" off the DT site. Gonna learn a bunch of the songs in it, plus I'm working on ANTR as well as Space Dye-Vest.
*snip*
Up for debate. I still think we need a more Grand Piano oriented song.

currently learning the count of tuscany on guitar. I have the introduction and the ending down pretty good, now for the rest!
-
Ziltoid is on hold until I can get my hands on a baritone 7 string, which is going to be a long time :(
Currently doing a cover of Deadhead instead. Going to see how the vocals turn out, and mostly using it to test out my new laptop setup for home demoing.
-
Ok, I stopped with Octavarium and tuned my guitar to Open D for...
V - The New Mythology Suite
Done only with Prelude. XD Hope I can finish by next month.

Just ordered the "Keyboard Anthology" off the DT site. Gonna learn a bunch of the songs in it, plus I'm working on ANTR as well as Space Dye-Vest.
I tried this but one of the massive chord stretches (on piano :P) was insane, then ehra told me that Kevin Moore has huge hands and i just kinda gave up. I Love the song though.
-
Playing along to all of OSI - Blood on drums. :heart Gavin
-
Jingle Bells on Guitar.
I just bought a Squier Strat today and am teaching myself guitar, something ive always wanted to do. so no laughing.

Jingle Bells on Guitar.

jingle bells was the first song i learned in my guitar class in high school. I remember those days, good luck with the guitar!
-
Working on Octavarium on the keyboard. I'm done with Someone Like Him, Medicate (except for the keyboard solo, I play it half as fast as it should be), Intervals and Razor's Edge. So I only need to master Full Circle (which I also play halfspeed) and speed up the keyboard solo.
-
I'm learning Pull Me Under on bass. I learned Afterlife in about 3 days, at which point I decided to stop looking at JMX's parts as impossible and just go for it.
Also learning about how to actually read music so I can stop relying on tabs and such. Just started today, but it's something I've wanted to do for quite some time.
-
I'm working on songs for a local metal band, since I'm filling in as their guitarist temporarily.
On top of that, I'm learning Invaders since we're covering it.
-
Muse - United States of Eurasia
On piano :hat
-
Hallowed Be Thy Name, Master Of Puppets, Creeping Death, Tornado Of Souls, Cowboys From Hell. All on drums.
-
Bout to start Opeth - Moonlapse Vertigo and Face of Melinda
-
"Froggin' Bullfish" by Bulb. I just finished transcribing it and now I'm learning all the cool parts.
https://soundclick.com/share?songid=7636244 In case you haven't heard it.
-
Massive bump
So, I have to learn a lot of music for my band. :P In addition to an hour of original music, I also have to learn the following (on bass):
Boston - Foreplay/Long Time
Riverside - Hyperactive
Iron Maiden - Losfer Words
Genesis - Turn It On Again
Rush - Freewill
Porcupine Tree - Shallow
Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere But Not Here
-
Interesting Iron Maiden choice. I approve. :tup :birch:
I'm gonna try to learn "Vicarious" and "Parabola" both by Tool on the drums when I can set them up again.
-
I'm not learning anything, but I am currently working on a song about the movie (or play) The Crucible.
-
I'm currently working on Aspirations by Between The Buried and Me on bass. Pretty simple song overall, but a very fun one to play, so this will be cool! :tup
-
Light by Periphery
good god the guitar rhythms in this song are sooo difficult to get down
-
Bach Invention #8
piano
-
Genesis - Turn It On Again
Rush - Freewill
The genesis one you can learn in about 20 minutes lol
Freewill is :metal. It was the first song I learned on bass. The solo section is a bit difficult to get through, but you can ad lib most of it. Just make sure you get the solo bass stuff perfect
-
My own recording :

Kinda Proggy. Kinda Heavy. Kinda Epic !

Weirdass and eclectic set, I know, but it's more fun that way. We cater to a lot of different tastes within our band, as you can tell.
-
That's awesome. I'd love to be in a cover band like that. But I have a multitude of other bands to be involved in too so it'd have to pretty much just be once in a while to have fun.

I wrote more originals for my band back in Ottawa but since I moved to Halifax a year and a half ago I just haven't been as creative for whatever reason...
But yeah, covers are fun.

Wow. Who's singing?
Um...our singer, Kurt?
-
I didn't know that :P
Best of luck to him
PASSIONS GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE
-
Haha thanks. It'll actually be our third time performing the song, and each time we've had a different singer. For the first couple years of our band, I was the singer, but when we played it, Lee (setrataeso) sung the last stanza because I knew I couldn't handle it. We played it again at a big two-hour show last summer, for which we recruited a temporary singer to join us so I could focus on guitar (I still did backing vocals on some songs).
Since we moved from Ottawa to Halifax, our band lineup has changed a bit (another guitarist to replace our keyboardist and a new singer) but I have tremendous faith in Kurt so I'm not concerned.
-
Everlong.
What a fucking blast to drum :metal :metal :metal
-
Lee (setrataeso) sung the last stanza
I might also add that I had to be James Labrie and Mike Portnoy at this one point.
Great song to play, though.
Deliverance is kicking my ass, but I'm plowing through. I'm bringing out the leg weights again so I can work on those long strings of double bass.
I think I'm doing the falsetto harmonies in Smooth Criminal, and the backing vocals to Ten Speed, so that will be interesting to sing and drum to.
Looking forward to playing Cock Noodle. :P

Been working on The Best of Times off of Black Clouds, I'm almost finished with the solo in the end. So much fun to play... I can't wait to get it down!

Shit, you're not playing this tonight, are you? I stumbled upon a FB post, I'm very impressed.
Please tell me you've actually come back and this isn't just a false alarm.
No, we were going to be playing at Gus' in the north end next week but unfortunately that show got cancelled at the last minute. We played for half an hour at a Grawood open mic tonight.
-
Ha, we'll see ;)
Subbed to your youtube channel, and liked the FB group. Definitely have to see you folks play sometime. That War Pigs cover was sick.
-
GL, great selections. Good stuff. You should follow up Maiden's "Rainmaker" with Warrant's "Mr. Rainmaker". :lol
My band has been working on a few things. We've got "Centerfold" by J. Geils Band down, and are working on a few country tunes, which makes me crazy. I hate country, but the one, I will give a pass to. "T-R-O-U-B-L-E" by Travis Tritt. It's basically "Johnny B. Goode" meets Stevie Ray Vaughan. Only reason I brought it up for the band to learn, was because a regular at one of our gigs sent us a request for it on Facebook. Anytime we have someone specifically ask for something, song-wise, I do my best to make sure we learn it. With that, we'll likely be learning "Mustang Sally" soon. The women love that song.
-
Play this with big band & string section in a few weeks on baritone sax:
The Lady Is A Tramp
Summer Wind
I Get A Kick Out Of You
Love And Marriage
I've Got You Under My Skin
Come Fly With Me
And jazz quartet, on alto sax:
Angel Eyes

Thanks man, we really appreciate it!

Me(a guitar player) and my friend Alex(keyboard/bass player) Have been working on mainly 2 songs right now. The Dark Side of the Moon(We both consider it to be 1 song. :P) and A Tout le Monde - Megadeth.
We messed with A Tout le Monde a bit. We changed the clean guitar intro to piano, and added in keyboard at various parts in the song.
-

Awesome, I'd love to hear that!
-

-
The Tallest Man On Earth - The Drying Of The Lawns
This is FUCKING HARD. (twss)
-
Sat down last night and figured out Marty's solo on Lucretia by Megadeth last night. By ear. Really hard to get it clean sounding.
-
Home on guitar.
-
As a bass player, i love to play DT songs, so enjoyable and great for practice. My practice day looks +- like this:
1. Evergrey - More Than Ever (warm up) ;)

4. Surrounded
5. Pull Me Under
6. Forsaken
7. Another Day
8. As I Am
9. You Not Me
10. I Walk Beside You
11. Peruvian Skies
12. The Root Of All Evil
13. Erotomania
14. A NIGHTMARE TO REMEMBER ! :D
15. A Rite Of Passage
16. Wither
Some of them are not challenging (Wither, Forsaken, You Not Me, I Walk Beside You... ) but so cool to play.
Currently I'm working on Ministry Of Lost Soul, great instrumental part, and challenging :D
-
Working on In the Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson.
The album that is. Not just the song.
-
Been working one Satrianis "Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards" for a short while now, but I'm pretty much done there now
-
Ministry Of The Lost Souls, have been finished ;) instrumental part is a tough one... :xbones my fingers almost fell off ;)
-
Technical difficulties - Racer X. It's a tough one!
-
I am NOT a shred guitarist by any means, I spend all my time mostly playing blues music. However, I'm trying to learn the Selkies solo by BTBAM, as it is one of the best shred solos ever written. So good luck to me and my first sweeping solo.
-
Technical difficulties - Racer X. It's a tough one!

I'm currently getting Stream of Consciousness on track. It's harder than it sounds. :lol
-
I've started learning Kaki King's first album. I've got my favorite songs down but there is still work to be done.
-
The rendition of Limehouse Blues featured in Jazz At The Pawnshop (on bass).
I'm not trying to reproduce the guy's line, I'm just improvising over the changes ... keeping things groovy of course :coolio
-

Comfortably Numb

Bike
Greatest end to a setlist ever.
-
Andy Mckee - Drifting
Doug Smith - Order of Magnitude
-
Steve Vai - Oooo and Blue Powder
-
Pretty much learned Never Going Back Again by Fleetwood Mac...
-
Andy Mckee - Drifting
That is a tricky song to play but it's doable. It's definitely something cool to play when hanging with friends.
-
All three parts of A Mind Beside Itself. Lots of fun to play.
-
Working on a couple Protest The Hero songs at the moment; Tandem, The Reign of Unending Terror, and Cest La Vie. Their stuff is just wicked fun to play. Very interesting lines, and not much breathing room for your left hand. :)

Haha I definitely agree with you there. I've been looking at the rhythm guitar lines for Bloodmeat, Sequoia Throne, and Limb from Limb (my favourite songs from Fortress in no particular order) and even they can be pretty tough sometimes. I wish I had the skill to play the lead guitar lines.
-
I hadn't played with any distortion in a couple of years, and I never learned any DT, so today I learned The Mirror, Rite of Passage (solo included), and Misunderstood.
I may check out some more involved tunes later (the Rite of Passage solo took a couple hours but its not too crazy) - I just wanted to get a few basic rockin tunes together for fun. Maybe I'll do Home or something soon.
-
Do you still use fingerpicks for that stuff?
-
I'm using my fingerpicks on Rite of Passage but the other stuff just a regular pick.
-
just watched some videos of the Rite of Passage solo -- noticed that there is some right hand tapping... i'm not doing any of that and I'm getting all the notes. there are some guys on youtube doing without some of it but that one fast lick from 6:05-6:09 nobody seems to do without the RH tapping... on the CD it definitely sounds like he's picking those accented notes and sounds much cooler, and thats how i'm doing it.. anyone else have any idea about that?

That last run in the solo is definitely a tapped part. I'm sure you could get all the notes without tapping as it's a fairly compact part, but it's definitely supposed to be tapped. Wouldn't mind seeing a video of you doing it without the tapping though; that whole solo is kind of a bitch position wise. Lots of movement. :)

Dude, I learned the SHIT outta Fortress. So much good stuff on there. And the rhythm parts most times aren't really any easier than the lead lines. Sequoia Throne in particular, is just FAST, but a ton of fun to play when you get it. So's the main riff from Bloodmeat. It blows me away though, listening to interviews and what not with those guys that they have absolutely no idea what they're doing. They're just tearing it up because it sounds good. I LOVE that. Goes against everything I teach on a daily basis. :)
Alex
-
Em, I have a little break with taking on new songs... my moving had started and I only refreshing my fingers with my playlist ;)
-
Been working on a 4 disc Concept Album for the last 3 years, so I have NO time to work on any other music.
Still have plenty of time to listen tho. :metal

Bloodmeat is so fun to play along to, the only really difficult part is Luke's sweeps during the last chorusey part, and that's only because I can't sweet :lol I haven't tried playing any of the other songs off that album, should really try some out.
-
this part? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtruSyT_nz4

haha
Yeah, that part. Saw that the other day. I love that these guys have a sense of humor. :)
As far as the rest of the album, damn near all of it is a blast to play. The Dissentience is one of my favorites at the moment as well as Goddess Bound. Just good stuff.
Alex
-
I'm currently working on all of Born Of Osiris' The New Reign. It's not all that hard except for some of the faster lead stuff and their RHYTHMS. GOD DAMN. The syncopation they incorporate is so hard for me to grasp. It's like Meshuggah but not polyrhythms. Other than that, some Faceless riffs (I'm not good enough to actually be able to play a whole song by them). Anyone wanna recommend some stuff for me? Intermediate level?
-
Under a Glass Moon
-
I've done The Count Of Tuscany recently, and now I'm working on Never Enough and The Answer Lies Within, only three songs left from Octavarium.
-
Overture no. 4 - Neal Morse
-
Debussey's Clair de Lune and Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata
-
Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata
That's a cool piece. Do you have to endurance to keep the tremolo octaves going at full speed in the first movement?
-
Uprising by Muse on keyboard.
-
Just finished The Killing Hand on bass....SOOOOOOOO MUCH FUN!!! :metal :)
-
Ignotus per ignotium by planet X, their songs are tough! And I'm just playing the guitar
-
Pain of salvation - undertow
Pretty much have it done now though.
-
Dream Theater - Eve.
-
Yes - Close to the Edge
-
Well now that it's out i'm working on On The Backs Of Angels - Dream Theater on drums. Mangini's drumming on this is deceptively difficult.
-
DT - Lie
outro guitar solo. so awesome
-
Well I am plugging away at LTL on drumset 5 times a day till I have it Perfect.
-
I'm going to learn The Dance of Eternity this year. I made up my mind
-
I'm going to learn The Dance of Eternity this year. I made up my mind
Go for it!
-
On the Backs of Angels guitar solo. Just gotta get the final run at the end up to speed and I'll be done
-
Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize both guitar and drums
Dream Theater - On the Backs of Angels just guitar, and this song is a bitch to learn by ear, at least for me.
-
Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata
That's a cool piece. Do you have to endurance to keep the tremolo octaves going at full speed in the first movement?
I do the first couple of times I play it... Of course after two hours of practice I can actually feel the carpal tunnel setting in. My biggest problem right now is actually getting those right hand chords consistent and up to speed when the tremolo moves to G.
EDIT: The reason it's taken me so long to reply is distraction, by the way. I haven't had a proper lesson in months, and I often fool around with jazz or Flight of the Bumblebee when I'm at the stool. (I can get the right hand up to around 200 bpm now :metal)
-
Almost done with On the Backs of Angels on bass. :metal Can work it out easier now I can actually hear the bass unlike BC&SL :)
-
ive decided i NEED to learn Just Let Me Breathe on guitar. gonna start that tonight
so much :metal
-
Last night, my drummer and I were dscussing putting together some long medley of bits of songs that, if pulled off, would be impressive as hell. We tossed around a few ideas, but nothing is set in stone yet. A brief brainstorm today netted me the following songs to medley-ize:
Greg Kihn Band - The Breakup Song
The Knack - My Sharona
Journey - Stone in Love
VH - Panama
Duran Duran - Hungry Like the Wolf
Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls
Tone Loc - Funky Cold Medina
Grand Funk Railroad - We're an American Band
The Cure - Fire Woman
Poison - Nothin' But a Good Time
Whitesnake - Slide It In
The Who - Baba o' Riley
Montrose - Bad Motor Scooter
I've figured out the kinds of transitions I'd want to make, but I figured that there's enough off the wall songs there that it would make people sit up and take notice.
-
ive decided i NEED to learn Just Let Me Breathe on guitar. gonna start that tonight

-
We're currently learning Heavy by Collective Soul, as well as Fortunate Son and Jailhouse Rock. We seem to do well too take oldies and spruce them up a bit and make them our own.
-
Angel of Twilight - Tony Macalpine
It's tricky when there aren't any tabs!
-
Seeds of Gold - Neal Morse
on guitar
-
I doing The Dance of Eternity on guitar to play with my band.
Our drummer has NAILED it already, I am about halfway now, keyboards are a bit behind, but it's getting there!
-
Learning Afterlife on guitar right now. Dat unison.
-
We're hammering down Ih Ah by Devin Townsend, and then for my grindcore band, I'm writing up the last song.
-
Finished the entire song Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence on drums
Working on The Human Equation by Ayreon, Learning to Live by DT, and Vicarious by Tool
-
There Will Never Be Another You, on piano.
-
Still Sacrified Sons, I was having a little break with covering DT tracks because of recording an EP from my band.
-
A Dramatic Turn of Events!!
-
Stream of consciousness. I think. Not sure yet, but it seems like a good way to build some strength, not too hard and still alot of fun.
-
Trying to learn the chords and main vocal melody to Beneath the Surface by ear. Just the basics. I pretty much the main part down "Until one day I stopped caring..." to "...was buried deep beneath the surface."
-
It's 6:30 in the morning here, so I'm not working on anything just yet, but I took the day off work today to work on demos for my band's second album. Today I will probably be working on a track called "Collateral Damage"
-
I'm working on Instrumedley, This Dying Soul, The Darkest of Winters->Ytse Jam, Beyond This Life, Constant Motion ....
-
Just finished transcribing Beneath the surface. I'll put it up on powertabs.net and tablibrary.com later.
-
Why not Songsterr.com ?
-
ddt- I enjoy your transcriptions.... But how do you download files off of powertabs.net? Also, I never see any new songs come on tablibrary. I think pt is much better than gp in every way, but am sad when I can't get new transcriptions. And lol at Songgster. That gives me a headache.
-
Never heard of, I've been at pt.net for 8 years, though.
-
But how do you download tabs off of powertabs.net? I also never see tablibrary updated. There's nothing on there off of ADToE. You, bakerman, and one other guy have killer tabs for dt.
-

Yay! I love the new album. Never got round to doing a review or saying how good it is! It's amazing, great songs, great musicianship and it's great sonically. Looking forward to the next one Barry! :metal
-
Learned Breaking All Illusions. Working on Lost Not Forgotten and Bridges in the Sky. When I get frustrated with one, I jump back to the other, haha.
On bass, ftw.
-
And lol at Songgster. That gives me a headache.
How come? I think it's okay since you do not need to download anything

Yay! I love the new album. Never got round to doing a review or saying how good it is! It's amazing, great songs, great musicianship and it's great sonically. Looking forward to the next one Barry! :metal
Oh, wow, thank you very much. I appreciate your kind words and I am sure everyone else in the band will be happy to hear this. I really think the next one is going to be even better. And this time we're going to make sure we do full demos of the drums so I can have a little bit more creative input into the final drum tracks, not that the drums on Back From Being Gone are bad, but I want Gerald to channel Neil Peart on the next one, and we've got some tracks (one of them I call "YYZ on Acid" as a working title) that are going to feature drums very prominently.

Working on OTBOA now (bass). Picking apart individual stems made me realize that JM is, once again, creating badass basslines. The quality of the performance (and that ******* distortion) is making it a bit tough to hear exactly what's going on at times, but I can't wait to get started on this one. Good stuff.

Going to learn one standard by ear a week. This week it's Stuffy written by Coleman Hawkins.
-
At the moment it's an original of mine called Life is Beautiful (nothing like the one by Nikki six). More like a cross between the Beatles and Jason mraz. I'm also working on an 8 song instrumental project of my own songs where each track is a different style.
-
Learning Van Halen's Jump, everything goin well until I came to the keyboard solo....man some of those stretches hurt !!!!
-
Outcry, the instrumental break is kinda tough
-
Been playing Take The Time for some time now. A lot of tricky parts.
Also some original material.
-
All four Devin Townsend Project Albums. I've finished Ki, Addicted, and most of Ghost. I'm working on Planet of the Apes off Deconstruction right now.

I'm starting a progressive blues-metal band. I've written a song (only the music) and I've got three more under construction. My friend Kris who's a drummer, is helping me kinda put it together with drums and stuff. He's letting me initially come up with the kind of beats that are being played behind the guitar, He's not really into progressive music, but he's really digging what I've been coming up with and hopefully I can convert him. haha. He and I and our mutual friend Sammy (who's a bassist) are meeting up today to talk band and to see if Sammy would be on board. Hopefully this all comes together by the first of the year. I'd love to start gigging as soon as possible.
Also, anyone have any recommendations for a band name? I was thinking East of Eden and that's what I've been referring to this 'project' as, but recently someone informed me that there was a band in England called East of Eden (a progressive rock band ironically enough). So if anyone has any good suggestions, throw them my way. I'd totally appreciate it.
Wish me luck guys.
EDIT: Eh, I guess I kinda misunderstood the purpose of the thread. Since the band is what I've been 'working on' I thought that's the kind of thing the poster meant. But yeah, I'm working on three originals. hahaha.

The Glass Prison, on guitar. So far one of the more difficult things I've tried to learn.
-
Hairless Heart by Genesis on guitar.
-
Another day. If anyone has the sheet music for that song it will be greatly appreciated.

Depends on what instrument. I do have it, but obviously I can't spread that here.

Here's a list of covers my band does:
From LTE:
Kindred Spirits
Biaxident
Universal Mind
DT:
I Walk Beside You
About To Crash
The Spirit Carries On
Overture 1928
and the latest one we did is Constant Motion.
I'd like to do ITPOE and there's been some talk of covering the entire SFAM...
But atm we're finishing our own songs and recording them, then shooting videos... :)

I play guitar. Currently working on Pull Me Under...got it down for the most part...just need to clean it up, especially the legato runs during the main solo...and those runs before each chorus with the chromatic bits are a beast...
after that I willmove on to Under a Glass Moon, 6:00, A mind beside itself, Hell's Kitchen, Lines in the Sand and Trial of Tears
I am trying to put together a DT cover band here in Atlanta, and that should get us some material to get started with

I'm just finishing up learning 3 sets of music for a band I just joined.
Working on memorizing backing vocals for New Aged Girl (Mary Moon), lead vox for Skynyd's Simple Man and Sharp Dressed Man.
Just finishing the process of creating keyboard parts for Weezer's Hash Pipe and Bad Girlfriend.
Also finishing piano solos for Sweet Home Alabama (harder than it sounds!) and Call Me the Breeze.
Along with that, I'm working on singing 3 country songs for church...There Goes My Life and The Good Stuff by Kenny Chesney, and It Won't Be Like This For Long by Darius Rucker.
So...pretty busy right now.
