Hi everyone,
it's been a bit quiet since our big announcement in October, but thankfully
the long wait is now over - the Relocator debut album is done and it's OUT!
We won't have the physical CDs in our hands for another two weeks or so,
but if you want to hear the album now, you don't have to wait until then!
We are now offering high-quality mp3s of the full album (complemented by
the CD booklet in PDF format so you're not missing out on the liner notes).
We have also started taking CD pre-orders and the cool thing is: If you
pre-order the CD, you can download the mp3s and start listening right away!
The album is now available here:
https://www.relocator-project.com
Here's the cover and the tracklisting:
1. Red Vibes (6:13)
2. Biosphere (8:00)
3. Relocator (5:24)
4. Proxima (6:16)
5. Aavishkar (10:30)
6. 13 Reasons (6:31)
7. Urban Blue (6:33)
8. The Alchemist (11:32)
Total playing time: 60:59
Stefan Artwin: guitars, programming
Michael Pruchnicki: bass, fretless bass
Frank Tinge: drums, percussion
Bartek Strycharski: electric violin
Special guest:
Derek Sherinian: all keyboards
You can listen to two full tracks on our MySpace page:
https://www.myspace.com/relocatorproject
We will upload a new track every day until the end
of the week, so keep checking back and listening. :)
Note: We had to split one song into two parts due to the MySpace limits.
On the album it is of course presented as one track without interruption.
You can order our album and read a bit more about us here:
https://www.relocator-project.com
Let me answer some frequently asked questions about the album right away:
Q: Does Derek Sherinian really play on this album?
A: Yes.
Q: But it's probably just a guest solo or something, right?
A: No, Derek recorded all the keyboard parts for all eight tracks.
Q: Is there violin on all tracks?
A: No, only three of the eight tracks feature our violinist.
Q: When do the vocals start?
A: Never. It's an all-instrumental album!
Q: How much is shipping to my country?
A: Shipping is included in the flat-rate CD price of 15 Euro.
Q: I hate the RIAA. Can I still buy your CD?
A: Yes. This is a 100% independent production and every penny made goes directly to the artists!
Q: I hate PayPal. Can I order your CD somewhere else?
A: Not at the moment, but this will change once we get the CDs from the pressing plant.
Q: When will my CD ship?
A: We expect to start shipping CDs around Christmas. Keep checking our website for updates!
Q: I just ordered the CD/mp3s. How can I download the mp3s?
A: You will get an e-mail with a download link. It might take a while before it is sent.
Q: The MySpace audio quality sucks. Can I download a full track in decent quality somewhere?
A: It's not Christmas yet! Please be patient. :)
Q: I can't find any reviews of your album. Why is that?
A: It's simple: We didn't delay the release for people to prepare their reviews like
record companies usually do. Only very few people have heard it before today.
Q: Your album rocks! Can I review it?
A: Yes, please do that. It would be very helpful.
Q: Your album sucks! Can I review it?
A: No, all negative reviews are embargoed until December 2034. :P
Q: How come I've never heard of you guys before?
A: Duh - it's our debut album! :D
I'll gladly answer any other questions you might have! :)

I know Kyo is somewhat new to the forum, but I'm endorsing Relocator, so treat this thread just as if I had posted about a cool new band, but instead Kyo did.
Okay, that made no sense, my point is just don't see this as spam. :lol
-
I'll check out the album, but that FAQ thing is pretty lame dude. No offense.
-
Sounds LTE-ish. Not my cup of tea these days, but I'm sure there are plenty of people here who would dig it. Good luck to you!
-
Dammit. I totally read this as velociraptor! :lol

Or just see is as the good kind of spam!
Thanks, Nick!
Shadoshi: What? :rollin

We just uploaded a new track to our MySpace page. It's the title track of the album. This is our most straight-forward track, kind of our "single", if there can be such a thing on an instrumental prog album. :D
Enjoy!

No clumps of 4 or 5 questions from the same book. How many quizzes did I read yesterday with that happening???? Grrrrrr

can I get an autographed copy?

Seriously? :)
It would be a bit complicated seeing how Frank lives in a different
country than the other three of us, but if you really want one, sure!
Just send me a personal message with your name and I'll take care of it!
Btw, there's another new song online. It's one of our craziest, most progressive ones - Urban Blue.
I really love the fusiony middle section in 7 with those amazing solos by Derek and Stefan on top of the playful bass and drum work. One of my favorite bits on the album! :)
-
Still haven't heard back from YtseBitsySpider...
Anyway, just posting to remind you that we've been adding a new song
every day. So since my last post the entire batch of songs on our
MySpace page has been replaced with new ones - check them out! :)

Short update: It looks like we'll get the CDs on December 30th. Of course we'll ship the pre-orders the same day. :)

Lemme have a listen online...I love Derek and all...but...I haven't actually paid for music since about 2005...

nope.
Train of Thought I think is the last one I paid for....maybe Octo...I'll have to check the cd tower....I like to contribute with concert tickets and t-shirt buys....as they've failed to come back to my city as promised since 2004...and I've seen them already 3 times.....
meh.
-
I like to contribute with concert tickets and t-shirt buys....
Make an exception for us - It'll probably be a while before we'll play in your area. :lol

we'll see...we'll see....get a few and autograph em...I'll order one in the new year. They dont' even arrive until the 30th.

They dont' even arrive until the 30th.
It's even worse than that now... :(
The final Relocator CDs arrived from the pressing plant today just as scheduled. And yet we can't ship them yet - unfortunately the layout of the CD booklet is totally messed up as you can see in the comparison image below.
How did this happen? We have no idea at this point. We are still waiting for an explanation from the pressing plant and a solution for this unfortunate situation or some kind of schedule for replacements. At least the CDs themselves seem to be fine...
We are sorry for this delay and we'll keep you updated. Thanks for your patience!
-
Hah, I remember when making my album gettin the booklet back and seeing fuckin stupid-ass typos like that. That really sucks. The music is pretty cool. To be honest, it lacks a bit of originality. But it's definitely good stuff. Derek sounds good, as always. Keep up the good work.
-
Hah, I remember when making my album gettin the booklet back and seeing fuckin stupid-ass typos like that. That really sucks.
For some reason it's the same thing (exactly the same random letters)
on every song's page. I really have no idea how this could have happened
and I've been dealing with these things for ten years as a writer for a
magazine. There are other problems with really random character
spacing/placement on another page, but at least in that case the
whole thing is still based on the correct text for that page.

Thanks! Did you hear any of the longer tracks with the violin? I think they sound more original than the rest.
-
A little update from us:
We finally have a new release date for the CD: January 25th! :)
We apologize for the delay to all who have pre-ordered the CD.
The first English review has been posted here:
https://www.ytsejam.com/modules.php?name=Reviews&rop=showcontent&id=1680
If you speak German, you can read two more reviews here:
https://www.rocktimes.de/gesamt/r/relocator/same.html
https://www.babyblaue-seiten.de/album_10425.html
Also, the full album is now available for streaming on our MySpace page:
https://www.myspace.com/relocatorproject
Check it out if you haven't yet! :)
-
It's a bit hard to believe after all the delays, but our debut CD is finally available -
today the corrected batch arrived and we've already shipped all the pre-orders
as well as the five CDs for those who won our "guess who" competition in 2008! :)
For now the CDs are available only directly via our website:
https://www.relocator-project.com
And our "order the CD, get MP3s right away" offer for the impatient still stands! :D
Thanks for listening! :)
PS: It would be cool if someone could change the thread topic to something like
Relocator debut feat. Derek Sherinian - Update: CD now available!
Thanks! :)
-
Hi everyone,
just letting you know that our album is now also available from CDBaby. :)
https://www.cdbaby.com/cd/relocator (https://www.cdbaby.com/cd/relocator)
This is quite a bit quicker and cheaper than buying directly from us if you live in the USA or Canada.
PS: It would be cool if someone could change the thread topic to something like

Uhm, please? :)

Come on, girls. It's a great album for those who are into instrumental prog. Very well done debut CD! It certainly deserves more attention.

Hey everyone,
our album is now also available from the iTunes Store. :)
Please note however that we make more from direct
sales via our website https://www.relocator-project.com (https://www.relocator-project.com)
where we also offer a FLAC version at no extra cost.
-
We got an awesome review on the DPRP site:
https://www.dprp.net/reviews/201013.php#relocator (https://www.dprp.net/reviews/201013.php#relocator)
"every track is of outstanding nature"
"I could go on and on with many superlatives about this music"
"Conclusion: 9 out of 10"
Yeah! :D
-
Just discovered this and am listening to on myspace... I DIG IT!!!
Let's combine prog and fusion, my two favorite genres...
If you EVER need a vocalist, I would love to contribute!!!

Thanks! It's nice to see that we're still reaching new people,
this thread has been going for over three months now after all. ;D
Who knows, by the time we release our second album some
people might actually know (and still remember) who we are. :lol
If you EVER need a vocalist, I would love to contribute!!!
We don't have plans for anything with vocals right now, but who
knows what the future will bring... Are there any recordings
of your singing available on the net just in case? :)

I can get some together... I'm the singer in a Gentle Giant tribute band called "Gende's Giant" and there are a few clips on You Tube. Make sure they are from 2009 or later, there are a few with a previous incarnation of the band that I am not in.

Just checked out some of the more recent Gende's Giant videos - you
guys are great! I'd go see a show of yours for sure if you played anywhere
close to my area (which I guess will sadly never happen, but anyway...).
Btw, our CD is now also available from Guitar Nine records:
https://www.guitar9.com/relocator.html
I think right now this is the cheapest way to get it if you live in the USA
(CD Baby is slightly more expensive unless you order more than one item).
-
Nice, I think that'll finally be how I get the actual CD.

Out of interest, who did the artwork, and did you have direct input into the it or was more a "oh hey make us album arts." "here" "kthxbai"

Most of the artwork was done by www.colourbites.de -
check out the "Referenzen" link to see what else he's done.
We got several very different designs and cover ideas to choose
from and suggested one more based on one of the pictures we
used for the individual songs (those came from several artists/
photographers and were chosen by us). Then we had an online
poll to help us decide between the last three remaining covers.

No wonder it's sold out at the moment. It should be back in stock very soon, though! :)

#1 ISNT GOOD ENOUGH
-
Hey everyone,
the current incarnation of Relocator began as a studio project, but that didn't stop
us from wanting to play live - especially once the album was finally in the can. So we
decided to stage a little release party with some live music. It proved impossible to
find a keyboard player in time for the gig, so we decided to re-arrange the music a
bit and strip down the keyboard parts to just the essential stuff which would then be
played by our violinist Bartek (who didn't have much to play on this material otherwise).
I ended up playing some keys on one track (The Alchemist) where Bartek was busy.
Note that we had never played together before that day and we had just about an
hour right before the actual gig to rehearse as a full band. In a way it was pretty scary,
considering we were going to play half the album (Tracks 1, 3, 7 and the big one, 8). :D
Anyway, here's a complete video of our song called 'Relocator', the last track of the night:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55CfuyXMSIE
-
I got some cool news - the subject could now be extended to "available in Japan, too!" :D
Check this out:
https://marquee.co.jp/world_disque/d.w.frameset.html
Since most people here can't read that page (or even display it properly), here's the story: Marquee Inc. is a big Japanese label
and their import store World Disque has picked up our album. And they're even calling it a "masterpiece" in their description! :o
This is really quite something for us and of course we're extremely proud! :D

I just did this nice interview with Drop-d magazine from Ireland, check it out! :)

And for those who speak French, here's another recent one with Stefan on Progressive Area:

Thanks to Jonathan Keane and Declan!

Not sure this is obvious if you didn't read the entire thread,

As I wrote earlier in this thread:

I know, I meant when I get paid next. ;)

Awesome! :)
We should have some cool news pretty soon. :D
-
Hey everyone,
Guitar Nine Records have posted this pretty cool interview with Stefan, check it out:
https://guitar9.com/interview154.html
Keep in mind that they removed all smileys from Stefan's answers, so some of these answers might come across a bit arrogant when they were really meant to be funny. :)
-
Now that they finally have a decent number of discs in stock I'd like to point out that...
https://www.guitar9.com/relocator.html
... as a promotional move to go along with the interview linked above, Guitar Nine Records are currently offering our CD for the low price of just $13 (including shipping within the US!). This is a limited time offer, so if you're on the fence about this album or know someone who is, now would be a good time to pull the trigger. :)
-
I'm not quite sure yet how to incorporate it into my signature (size limits and all), but we finally have an easy-to-remember URL for our Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/relocatorproject
-
Liked.
I have a question from looking at the page: do you have a keyboardist that plays Derek's parts live?
-
Yes, we've found a very talented guy who will play Derek's parts at live gigs. :) Now all we need are some gigs...
-
i just checked this out. pretty cool, but was on a laptop so couldn't hear the bass stuff. what gear is the bassist using?
-
On the album I used a Yamaha RBX6JM (fretted 6-string) and a Yamaha TRB1005F (fretless 5-string) and really nothing else other than a USB recording interface. It does sound and cut through quite nicely, eh? :D
-
pretty good ya. john myung signature, is that? my friend has one, but it's the other greenish one he used for SFAM i believe. how does it play?
-
Yeah, it's the first generation Myung signature model. Red or green/blue, same model either way (he was using the red one originally). I really like how it plays, but the string spacing is very narrow. This is great for fast runs but a bit tricky for slapping (which is a bitch on a six-string anyway).
-
cool. well u guys have a nice DT influence, can't wait for the next album. is this album out in like best buy and stuff by chance? might pick it up
-
No, sadly we don't have that kind of distribution. You can get the album from more popular online stores like Amazon or CD Universe, but the most affordable US sources for the CD are CD Baby and Guitar Nine Records.
-
Hey everyone,
Bill Knispel of Bill's Prog Blog (a truly excellent site!) has just published his extensive interview with me, check it out! :)
https://billsprogblog.blogspot.com/2010/09/more-than-10-questions-withmichael.html
-
Just wanted to mention that there's a full-page article on Relocator in the brand-new issue of Classic Rock Presents Prog - woohoo! :D
(https://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs935.snc4/74845_165990750085242_116713035013014_457301_6766480_n.jpg)
And I've been told the extensive DT interviews are also worth a read. ;)
-
Hey everyone,
a brand-new interview with our guitarist Stefan Artwin was just posted over at ProgArchives, check it out! :)
https://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=73940
We should also have some news regarding a pretty cool live gig soon! :)
-
Hey everyone,
you can help us make the "Best of 2010" charts by voting for Relocator in the DPRP poll! :) It's open until February 1. Appropriate categories include favourite newcomer, favourite album, favourite song, favourite newcomer, favourite album artwork, best performance on various instruments and, oh, did we mention favourite newcomer yet? Well, whatever you feel is warranted! :)
https://www.dprp.net/dprpoll/2010/index.php
Would be fun if Derek Sherinian placed high in "best keyboard performance" for the guest appearance on our disc, eh?
-
Hey everyone,
we have just launched our new website with some nice new content:
https://www.relocator-project.com/wp/
The Music page now features high-quality streams of our entire album (much better quality than on MySpace!), so if you haven't really heard our music yet, this is the best way to discover it.
And for those of you who are already familiar with the album, we have added four demos of the songs as they were originally presented to the band by Stefan in 2004! :D Everything in those was performed and programmed by Stefan himself and it's quite interesting to hear how the tracks have developed since then. :) These can also be downloaded, btw!
Here's a direct link to the Music page:
https://www.relocator-project.com/wp/?page_id=10
All the best,
Michael
-
Bump from the grave as I was reminiscing about this album today.
Ten years ago, my first serious recording was released - the self-titled Relocator debut. The demos for all album tracks were written by guitarist Stefan Artwin and the original band had been playing several of them as early as 2004. While I did get to add some bits of mine here and there, perhaps my biggest contribution was as an arranger, helping shape the pieces into their final form, reviving previously deleted parts from old demos, linking sections thematically, improving transitions and adding proper endings where a demo would just kinda stop (I greatly value good song endings). I got Dutch drummer Frank Tinge on board, an acquaintance from a couple of prog forums, and suggested adding Bartek Strycharski on electric violin for a more original sound. We didn't have a keybordist, which was a problem with material that was so keyboard-driven. Thankfully, Derek Sherinian agreed to handle keys on the album. Everyone did a great job with their parts and so the album was finished in late 2009. A problem with misprinted CD artwork resulted in a delay, so that's why it says (c) 2009 on an album released in early 2010 - we just forgot to update the artwork in the process.
Somehow we even managed to turn this studio project into an occasional live thing from 2011 to 2014, though the lack of regular rehearsals was a bit of a problem. We played our last gig at the Generation Prog Festival 2014, celebrating the band's 10th anniversary with some "classics" and a new song plus special guests Bhaskar (mridangam), Paul Adrian Villarreal (guest vocals on Song for America and The Accolade) and Ross Jennings (guest vocals on Learning to Live). After this, Stefan's lack of motivation to write new stuff and his struggles with the demands of live gigs, which had long been a problem, basically sucked the air out of the project and the whole thing fizzled out.
Making the Relocator album was an exciting recording project and I'm still quite proud of the result, so check it out if you haven't yet:
https://relocator.bandcamp.com/
If you're interested in what I've been up to since, right after the 2014 festival I joined another instrumental prog/fusion band, Time Shift Accident. Our debut album Chronosthesia came out in 2019:
https://generationprog.bandcamp.com/album/chronosthesia
-
I actually found the album by chance about five or six years back in my local record store, remembered you talking about it either here or on Portnoy's forum, and snatched it up. I didn't know about the date. I've had it listed as 2009 for the entire time I've had it; guess I'll edit that now. :lol
-
Cool to hear that! Hope you got something out of the music.
I wish we had found a place for the new song we played live in 2013 and 2014. At least there's a decent live performance of it out there (the footage isn't great though):
