FF is my favorite Marvel franchise from the comic book perspective. I LOVE the old Jack Kirby books. I wish the movies so far have done them justice, but alas they have not.
-
Dunno how I feel about Reed and Susan, though I do love Pedro.
But Ebon as Ben and Joseph as Johnny is ace casting right there.
Like Stadler, I just hope they do them justice. Giving them the typical Marvel tone will just feel empty and hollow.
-
I hope they focus on science and family. That's the F4 sauce.
-
Reed and Sue are actually pretty complicated characters, and I just hope Marvel doesn't break them down into grumpy scientist who makes a ton of quips, and his devoted wife who is strong but also very quippy.
So yea, I hope they focus on character and less on traditional MCU action scenes and jokes. I have my doubts though.
-
The initial title logo is VERY retro feeling. I wonder if this will be a period piece. There was a lot of talk about script ideas in the past where the family would be from the 60s but caught in some temporal mess that would bring them forward to today/modern-day MCU time. It would be neat to explore that era of the MCU and having them disappear would explain why they haven't been around in the MCU to help out with any of the major events that have happened since Iron Man.
Guess we will wait and see, and it looks like the latest casting rumors were true. Looks like Pedro gets to be another fictional daddy for fans to pine after.

Can't help it. I think Hef if fantastic.

Just need two more people.

Pedro is a fine actor, though debuting the character with a near 50 year old seems a bit...weird, given there's a good chance he'll be playing the character for over a decade (and given Sue's actor is in her mid 30s). Can't deny the talent of the cast though so hopefully the script and movie makes good use of them.

I have the greatest kid....so I texted her the above Reed Richards/Orphan Spidey scenario, her response was "lol that's probably what they'll do because Disney has no original ideas lol but no, all comic lore says Reed Richard's is a TERRIBLE mentor"
She out-geeks me at every turn. :heart

They'll probably make Franklin Richards an adopted baby mutant from a dying universe caused by an incursion. Sue and Reed will probably rescue baby Franklin and take him home.

Does it, though? As far as I can remember, Reed was always drawn and colored with that lame ass white temple hair, which means he was no spring chicken even back then.

According to this Reddit thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/Marvel/comments/7l71w8/how_old_were_the_fantastic_four_when_they_first/), seems like folks think Reed is at least a decade older than Sue, and in his mid-to-late 30s when they got their powers. If we're seeing a Fantastic Four who have already had their powers for awhile, casting Reed as the 48 year old Pedro Pascal isn't a big stretch of the imagination. And Sue being a fair bit younger isn't new either. I'm fine with the age gap since it seems reflective of their comic origins anyway. As long as Reed and Ben are close in age, the other two can be any amount younger and I'd be fine with it.
-Marc.
-
Yea, an older more experienced Reed is pretty in line with the comics.
Unless you're talking Ultimate Fantastic Four, but I hope they don't go that way. I think they tried with Fant4stick.

They've already taken enough from the Ultimate line, IMO.
Let's go classic.

First, I just saw Marvel's post on Instagram, and I definitely get 60's vibe on it.

Second, that reminded me of the comment from Dr. Strange MoM, "Didn't you guys chart in the 60's". Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.

It definitely could've been a tongue-in-cheek reference to those script rumors, but it was also just Strange making fun of the group name and his affinity for music. Either way, Matt Shakman, director of WandaVision, is directing the new FF, and I loved the vibe and feel of those early episodes and with their classic TV settings, so I wonder if he'll bring some of that to The Fantastic Four?
-Marc.

Shooting in the dark, here, but maybe it's a best of two worlds thing?
Part of the story - the origin -in the 60's, then a caper in the Quantum Realm (like the Negative Zone from the comics), just to emerge in present day?
-
I'd prefer if they don't go down the route of Doom as the villain in this first story (or maybe just hints of him). Doom is one of the greatest marvel villains i think I'd prefer him as a multi story end of phase boss.

I agree.

I'm familiar with Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby. Didn't recognize the name Ebon Moss-Bachrach, but it turns out I've seen him a few things. I thought Skeen was an interesting character, and Lieberman was pretty cool. Joseph Quinn is the only unknown for me. His list on IMDb is impressive; it's just all stuff I've never seen.
But as with anything else, what matters most is that it's well-written and well-acted. We haven't gotten that particular twofer for any Fantastic Four movie yet IMO. Third, or fourth, or fifth time's the charm?
-
Fair enough, I stand corrected!

If you haven’t seen Stranger Things, you really need to fix that.

I actually completely forgot he was in Punisher. And he didn't get a ton of screen time in Andor, sadly.
If you want to see Ebon as a great actor, check out his episodes of Girls (he plays a horrible person but plays him brilliantly) and as Richie in The Bear.

Not enough hours in a day, week, or month to watch all the TV that people recommend, or even everything I think looks interesting. I can't just sit and watch TV for hours like some people. I'll watch one episode of a show I'm working my way through; a two-hour movie pushes the boundaries of my patience. Then I'm good for a day or two. I'd rather be playing games or fucking around on the Internet. At least it's interactive.
-
You should buy the newest gadget by Apple, then you could watch TV, while surfing the net and also interacting with the real world ALL at the same time.
-
I've tried a few things, like playing on my phone or just checking email while supposedly watching something on TV. It doesn't work. If I'm going to commit time to something, it gets my full attention, or it's a waste of time. My wife does it all the time. We'll put something on that "we" want to watch, but she'll be on her phone the whole time. She'll comment once in a while about something on screen, I guess to let me know she's paying attention, but then she'll ask something later that makes it obvious she didn't see something on screen that was very clear and meant to be seen. TV is a visual medium. The camera lingered on that thing for a reason. Or just dialogue. They discussed something, she did one thing, he did another. Don't ask me later why; it was all right there, but you were texting with someone and missed it.

How cool would it be if, maybe in Secret Wars, they introduce The Council of Reeds, and bring back Ioan Gruffudd, Miles Teller, and John Krasinski to meet Pedro Pascal? Heck, maybe even get Alex Hyde-White if he's game. It'd be neat to see all the cinematic Reeds meet each other, if only briefly.

I can only speak for myself, but the council of Kangs is already one council too many.

Is Black Bolt immune to his own power? If so, they could actually talk to each other. ;)

I think Multiverse Of Madness showed us he definitely is NOT immune to his own power. :lol

Everything in that movie involving the Illuminati, after they are briefly introduced, makes me upset.

And folks who don't know comics are gonna start raging that "wHy'D yOu MaKe SiLvEr SuRfEr a WOMAN?! MCU, more like M-SHE-U. eyeroll emoji".
All anyone needs to do is take 5 seconds to Google her name and see the top of her wiki article:
Shalla-Bal is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, the immortal Empress of Zenn-La and the lover of Norrin Radd, the Silver Surfer, who becomes the Herald of Galactus in exchange for his planet being spared, separating the lovers for eternity. In the alternate continuity of Earth X/Universe X, Shalla-Bal is depicted as joining Norrin as a second Silver Surfer, both serving as the twin-heralds of the second Galactus.
Since she's already had a couple interesting takes from multiple stories, it'll be interesting to see how they incorporate her into this film. I hope they don't just kill off Norrin Radd, especially off-screen. He's such an integral part of the Marvel Comics that it would be a waste not to have him. Maybe they'll swapped their roles and she'll become SS save their planet, and then maybe Norrin Radd becomes the modern-day SS after Shalla-Bal dies or something. Guess we'll find out!

Big cringe... gotta love ill-informed knee-jerk reactions.

Yeah someone on a forum I’m on made a thread titled "They plan on making the Silver Surfer Lame in F4".
-
Looked at the works she has been in, and don't recognize any of them, so I hope she does a good job with whatever script she gets.
I have no problem with the MCU using Shalla-Bal instead of silver surfer.
-
I'm not in any way ill-informed, but I don't like it, not one bit.
But at least they got a great actress for it. *shrugs*
-
Maybe this is just me? But generally not keen on The Silver Surfer much, and to be honest I'm not sure design wise it translates well into live action.
-

I hate you.
Silver Surfer has long been one of my favorites. Not every writer's iteration, but plenty. In fact, when I applied to my doctoral program, I remember making a deal with my girlfriend at the time that if I got rejected, she would track down and buy me Silver Surfer: Requiem, and if I got in, I'd do it. And now it sits happily on my shelf as one of the best comics I've read.
As far as this goes, I'd rather have Norrin but if they have a good idea for having Shalla-Bal as a version of the Silver Surfer, then I'm open to that. Actress is great.
And even though the movie is far from good, I mostly liked how Doug Jones/Laurence Fishburn portrayed the Silver Surfer in the second FF movie.
-
I hate you.
I always knew, unrequited love hurts like bitch

I….have no feelings about that.
I like Malkovich but I assume he’ll play a politician or businessman or something. And no idea who other dude is.
-
Has Doom already been cast?
-
Nope, unless they’re keeping it a secret.
I’m hoping for no Doom in this first movie. He’s been the villain for all other F4 movies. I’m sure he’ll come up eventually, but let’s do something different for this first movie.
-
Has Doom already been cast?
Not sure he’s in it. Hopefully not. At least not in a major way.

Ditto this.
Not sure he’s in it [Dr. Doom]. Hopefully not. At least not in a major way.
And this.
-
Doom would be best kept as a reference, either by name or via Latveria, or in a post-credits scene a la The Avengers with Thanos' turn and smile.
