Can't believe it, and I can't believe he was 65. I'll never forget seeing his standup in college for the first time and seeing a very different Bob Saget from Full House
-
Wow. I did NOT see this coming.
You won't have to suck dick for coke in heaven, Bob.
-
Just got a text from my brother about this. Crazy.
-

Wait, wut?
-
Dang, what a bummer. I only knew him as Danny Tanner from Full House and Future Ted from How I met Your Mother, but I thought he played his roles really well in those.
-
If you haven't checked out his standup do so, just be prepared to hear some very vulgar comedy.
-
I loved him as a comedian more than anything and this is such a punch to the gut for me. Not often I get such wind taken out of my sails but this definitely did it. God damn it.
-
You won't have to suck dick for coke in heaven, Bob.
Wait, wut?
It's from the movie Half-Baked
-
Oh OK. Never heard of it.

My god Tim :lol
-
They were originally going to use it in America’s Funniest Home Videos, but test audiences responded unfavorably.
-
We did go see the Full House house when we were in San Francisco a few years ago.

Yeah I too was there some years back, RIP Bob Saget.

Beat me to it, lol
Watched a ton of Full House as a kid. His random scene in Half Baked is hilarious. Sad to see him go

Fuck, me either! :lol
RIP Bob. Remember watching Full House as a young kid.

I liked him on How I Met Your Mother.

I vaguely recall having heard of half-baked, but I couldn't tell you who's in it, and I doubt I ever saw it.
Full House premiered when I was almost 20. I wasn't in the demographic and never watched it (although I knew Saget was the lead). I caught AFHV every now and then, but it became stupid really quick. I knew Saget as the voice of older Ted on How I Met Your Mother.
Do we know anything about cause of death? The initial report said no evidence of foul play or drug use.

I too was not in the Full House demographic; I was (and am) a Stamos fan, but I dislike kids in TV sitcoms, so that angle didn't work for me. I didn't know at the time that Dave Coulliet was the impetus for "Jagged Little Pill", that angle wasn't there. In hindsight, though, and knowing what I know now about Saget, that performance of Danny Tanner was sort of inspired.
You've got to figure it's one of the big three: cocaine, heart, suicide, and since the first was ruled out, it only leaves the other two. He did, reportedly, post some creepy (in hindsight) stuff about the afterlife, so maybe the remaining two are still on the table.
-
Initial autopsy has ruled out "foul play" so does that mean suicide? I think so.
Anyone ever see The Aristocrats? Not for the faint of heart....
-
Isn't that a cartoon?
-
That's the AristoCATS. Very different film. :lol

Here - just watch. So many comics.

I am convinced TAC is the goofy secondary character on every sitcom ever made.
-
BTW, Tim…Bob Saget used to be on a show called America’s Funniest Home Videos. Not sure if you’ve heard of it….but it was sortof like YouTube before the internet with “dad joke” commentary.
;) ;)

Perfect description!

I was just thinking about Bob Saget today and what a completely “bipolar” career the guy had.
I defy you to name any other comedian who ended up being (almost) equally high profile career as both a “family show” and an over the top raunch guy. It’s unheard of. It would be like if Andrew Dice Clay had a mega-hit Nickelodeon show that was just as popular as The Diceman character.

I didn't put it that way, but that's sort of why I said Danny Tanner was "inspired". I think the two sides played off each other as he got older, and it made both that much more "funny". IMO.

Not quite the same, but similar, George Carlin was the narrator on the children show Thomas the Tank Engine

The Aristocrats is a fantastic film (not for you, TAC), and definitely my favorite film appearance of Saget, who was a genius of filth.
I hated Full House, and didn't care for him on AFV (which didn't realize its full potential until the Tom Bergeron years), but as a raunch comic, Saget had no equal.
RIP

While he did have some “blue” material, I don’t consider him to be nearly on the same level as Dice, or Sam Kinison…etc etc
Bob Saget was considered to be in that league AFAIK.

Yeah, just offering something similar but not exactly the same.

Yeah, I think he's the captain of that particular ship.
He's just better known for that ridiculous TV show than for his standup.

I hated Full House. It just seemed so generic to me. I also thought the 'comedy' on Funniest Home Video was absolutely cringe-worthy. For some time I had no real respect for Bob. Then I found out that he was the bipolar comedian, if you will.
I still hate those shows, but Bob was the real deal and a true nice guy. Watch Kimmel's tribute to him. He just fell apart. Tells you something.

I said that to my wife yesterday; I'm sort of mildly surprised how well liked he was in the community. It seems like he was one of those guys for whom to know him was to love him. I dig that.
I have to say, I have a soft spot for AFHV. I'm Team Bergeron, but there are few shows I could sit down with my kids and just LAUGH. It's not high brow, and the interludes are cringy, sometimes, but there's something hilarious about the standard videos of cats falling off tables, kids hitting wiffle balls into parents nuts, and young children smeared with all sorts of kitchen and playroom goods. :)
-
It's not mark of quality to Full House or AFHV, of course they were both terrible shows but to a lot of people of a certain generation (millenials who are in their late 30s early 40s now btw) remembering Bob Saget they saw those as kids when you just watched whatever was on. Then in the community of comedians he wasn't known for his tv shows but for his very vulgar style and being the nicest person, from all accounts.
-
I used to watch Full House a lot as a kid, it was a go to TV show for the family growing up. Same with AFV back then. I used to enjoy both, but I think neither stood the test of time. Which is OK.

I followed Bob on twitter, not because I was a big fan of his or anything, he just came across as a solid dude and felt legit. There's a clip of him, I think from being on Howard Stern, floating around saying how it sucks all the good people die young.

It feels empty to have both Norm and Bob gone.
