Anyone know this band?
all female trio of sisters from Mexico rock pretty hard (and even a bit *progressive*) on this new tune "Evolve."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_RB0tRI624
they got known initially from some covers, including Enter Sandman from Metallica (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jNZfnsbEYw).
But that was 7 years ago. They're unique in a lot of ways. Heavy, melodic, and they keep growing/improving their songwriting and playing. All 3 sing and are multi-instrumentalists I guess.
They are quite a unique band, and certainly 1 to watch now and in the future.
-
and named after a Queensryche piece too (or so I'd guess)
-
Nice!!! Like a female Foo Fighters.
-
Huge fan. I have both albums and am waiting on them to ship me vinyl's of both albums and a CD of Queen Of The Murder Scene. I also follow them on Patreon, which has given me several professionally recorded and edited concert videos. I have become obsessed with them.
It's baffling that Queen was recorded when they were 18 (Dany - Guitar), 16 (Paulina - Drums) and 13 (Ale - Bass). Not to mention, it is a concept record written solely by them. They are way too talented for their age. It's amazing. The first album came out a year before Queen, so just imagine that.
Evolve is a banger of a track. Paulina is a force of nature behind the kit. Live she is just amazing to watch. Eagerly awaiting a release date on album #3.
-
I Loved Queen of the Murder Scene. Very ambitious of them to do a concept album for their sophomore record. They are clearly fantastic musicians (and will only get better from here) and they are very intelligent. I heard that they were in negotiations with Lava Records for 7 months before agreeing to a deal. They refused to sign with any major labels until they got a deal that worked for them. They get to keep their Patreon page and get full creative control over their music.
They've also shot to the top of the list of live shows I would like to see. Pau has the energy and charisma on drums that Im sure a lot of frontmen wish they had.
-
Cool, thanks for sharing this thread. Never heard of them but after that first video will be checking them out some more.
-
Last week they dropped a new video for their Spanish language song Martirio https://youtu.be/KRA3nMzF31M (https://youtu.be/KRA3nMzF31M)
I may not know a single word of Spanish but the song still manages to be catchy. Also the video is gorgeous. They have an EP coming out on October 8th which is basically the first half of their upcoming album.
-
Finally got my order from them. The XXI vinyl arrived a few weeks ago and I just minutes ago opened the package that contained my signed vinyl of QOTMS and the CD of the same album. On Wednesday I should have the CD of XXI in my hands.
As for their, now 2, Spanish language tracks, I prefer Narcissista. That is just an awesome song. It helps that it is a big F-You to the Spanish critics who were calling them out for 'pandering' to the white man and the English language. Not to mention that Paulina is the perfect one to handle the vocals on that as she clearly has to attitude and disposition for it.
I also enjoyed their Metallica Blacklist entry with that Aleissa Cara. I had no hopes from the previews, but ended up really enjoying it.
-
I discovered them with the new Enter Sandman with Alessia Cara track.
They are amazing! Their version of ES is just so awesome and is clearly the best track on a mostly-lame Blacklist. Everyone keeps drooling over Miley Cyrus on Nothing Else Matters but, come on, it's not even close.
Gonna check out the rest of their shiz.

I took my kid on a trip a couple years ago, and one of the things we did was visit a few colleges. At Emerson College in Boston, we started the tour in a room and were greated by four current students who would lead small groups from the larger group. Two of the students were seniors and two were sophomores. As they started to introduce themselves (and with me only half paying attention), the two sophomores said, "Hi, my name is ___, and I use ___ pronouns." I didn't quite hear what they said about pronouns but didn't give it much thought (and the two seniors didn't say anything about pronouns). When we got to one of the dorms, we saw a board with photos of all the resident assistants (RAs), each of which had a little thingy that said either "he/him" or "she/her" (no one had "they/them" or any sort of new age "pronouns"). It was then that I realized what the two sophomores had said. When I mentioned it to my kid, we had a good laugh about it.

Keep seeing this thread title, and I’m like “well of course a trio of sisters would be all female!”
-
"All-Female Trio of Sisters" is a bit redundant.
so, i changed the description

Sounds like a plot to a romcom series more than anything.

Really enjoying Choke and the look Dany gives when she says "I won't survive the fall" melts me.
-
I was rather disappointed to visit their website and learn that the bass player is 11 months YOUNGER than my kid!

Choke is my favorite of the songs that I've heard. Really shows off how powerful Dany's voice is.

If you don't mind me asking, why is that disappointing? just curious.

Might be the same as me, kind of a dirty old man kind of thing. I absolutely love this band and I cannot deny that they are all very attractive, but Dany is the same age as my oldest and the other 2 are even younger. Ale, the bass player, is only 16.

That's pretty much it. I clicked the link in the first post in the thread ("Evolve") and thought to myself that the bass player was the most attractive. Obviously, they're all "too young for me" (having just turned 54), but it didn't occur to me that any of them might still be minors. The bass player was born in December 2004, and the "profile" photo of her on the band's website makes that pretty obvious and is VERY different from the image projected in the video.

All of which makes their talent all the more impressive. The fact that they write and play everything themselves, at that age and at that level of excellence is just staggering.

I also realized that I had seen their 2014 cover of Enter Sandman, and my reaction to that was that it's impressive what kids can do when mommy and daddy have lots of money for instruments and equipment.
-
I've been listening to their EP some this week, and I think it's pretty strong. The four songs they've put out as singles (Disciple, Choke, Evolve and Martirio) are the four best songs, but Animosity is up there with the rest. I'm not really connecting with Z, but that's just one song out of six.
I discovered them via their music videos, where their energy and presence are what stood out to me at first, but even just listening to them on audio, there's a lot of charisma to their performances. And they're just talented players and songwriters. Daniela is kind of the natural star as the guitarist and main singer, but Paulina really steals the show a lot of the time with her drumming and occasional lead vocal spots—she and Alejandra are a powerful rhythm section.
-
Have listened to a few of their songs and am really blown away by the stuff they all can do, specially since they're all younger than me. I'm 26 right now (and been playing bass since I was 13) and they all could give me a run for my money, not just the playing but also the songwriting. Makes me feel like I'm a failure as a musician :lol

Wow. I watched the video for Evolve and thought, "Okay, not bad." Then I watched a live show where they played all of Queen, and then a couple of other newer videos (Choke and Disciple), and I think I'm officially hooked.
-
That Foro Didi show (guessing it's that one) is something. That show introduced me to Narcissta. I'm not usually one for foreign lyrics, but Pau just owns that track. They offer that whole show and a few others to their Patreon members. I downloaded them all. I think I have 3 full shows. Nope, 4. Foro Didi 2019, Lunario 2018, Dakota Bar 2018, and the Whisky 2020. All pro shot.
Really looking forward to February.
Welcome to the club, Bosk! These girls rock!
-
I watched Lunario first. I saw a bit of Foro Didi, but didn't have time for but a few minutes.
It's a shame their music isn't available on Amazon. My kids have been asking me what to get for Christmas. Frustrating that only two of their CD's are on their website, neither of which is the new EP, and they charge quite a bit for shipping. Can't seem to find their stuff elsewhere, except streaming.
-
I'd love to see them, but I think I'd have to travel during a time when I'll be pretty busy with work.
I think their new EP is digital only, but I understand it to be the first half of their next album, which will hopefully get a physical release. I bought it on iTunes and definitely don't regret it.

Yeah, Mayday is their first label release. The label decided to put out half of the album now as a teaser and the whole thing is supposed to be released sometime next year.
The first 2 albums are independent releases that they supply themselves. I had to wait months to get my copies as they were getting a fresh batch made up in Minnesota. Since those 2 albums they signed a 5 album deal so going forward their new music should be more readily available once the label stops letting Covid drive their thinking. They do offer uncompressed downloads of the old albums on their site. Almost all the way at the bottom on the homepage. Not sure that is your thing, but thought I'd mention it.

There 1st 2 albums were repressed in Minnesota?..interesting. I'll have to mention that to a co-worker of mine. While I do enjoy them, this co-worker of mine has become competely obsessed with The Warning. He just got his VIP tickets for the Minneapolis show on February 1st per a Presale code he got through their Patreon.
He's on their Patreon, goes to their discord channel regularly, and knows more or less eveything about all 3 of them.
The last couple of days he's been bugging me to get a ticket. I may, alhough the club it's at, The Fine Line Music Cafe, I'm hardly thrilled with per my wife and I just saw Mayer Hawthorne there a few weeks ago and most of the show, there were people babbling on incredibly loudly I had to move away from them frequently during the show. And I've had that experience previously at The Fine Line, per what I believe happens are people go to these clubs to SOCIALIZE and don't really care that much about the artist they paid money to get into the club to see, lol.
The Fine Line's seating is limited to an upstairs balcony area, and I would imagine if the seating is not sold out from Presales like he bought, it will (I tend to want seating per my back tends to bother me when standing for over 90 minutes in 1 place).
So I may have to pass. I'm unsure. They do have a Vaccine policy, however during the Mayer Hawthorne show, a lot of people were not wearing masks of course. Plus it's on a weeknight in downtown where the crime rates have been pretty bad of course.
-
I always cringe when I see bands I like coming to Vancouver to play. We suck.
Unless it's hip-hop or rap or poop nobody here gives a damn and I'd hate it if bands come here once and then say "never again"... which is pretty much what happens. They will go to Calgary/Edmonton and then skip Vancouver and go right to Seattle.
NB - Not a typo.
-
There 1st 2 albums were repressed in Minnesota?..interesting.
Yep. As a heavy Discogs user I have become well versed in pressing plants. They used the ADS Group there. ADS is used by a lot of independent artists and small labels. Many of my recent albums have come out of ADS.
https://theadsgroup.com/
I actually added the represses of both albums to Discogs once I had them in hand.
-
I think I may pay the overpriced shipping and order the CD from their site. Who knows--could become one of those highly sought after rarities if they hit it big and do a formal label re-pressing later.
-
I might check out the Santa Ana show.
-
Listening to another live show while at work. Some of their vocal harmonies really remind me of Drain STH. I wonder if there is any influence, or if it is just coincidence. I also hear a lot of Doro Pesch in Dany's vocal delivery.
I really like the punk influences and swagger of some of their older material that you get in those live videos. But I also like the modern sound from some of the newer songs like Choke and Disciple (which are both WAY better than Evolve, IMO).
-
bump.
their Winter tour was supposed to kickoff this week (1/18 in San Diego), but it's now been pushed back to the Spring.

Have to say, a late April show in Chicago is much more appealing than the first week of February. I'm okay with this.
-
https://tidal.com/rising
30 minute documentary piece there, of all places, Jay-Z's streaming platform.
-
Oh man, this reminded me that the Chicago was supposed to happen last night. That would have been a disaster with the storm. I was out clearing my driveway when I should have been on my way to the show.
Very happy about the postponement now.
-
Gave these albums a good listen today, as much as I can give anything a good listen while digging a trench. The first I thought was not much more than OK, I enjoyed the second much more.
-
Was waiting for a performance of Z. Ale's bass on this is just monstrous. Such a groove. Dany with a little solo as well. This track has been a favorite ever since the EP came out.

This is a great lineup.
Even though my interest in Halestorm is waning bigly for the last two albums, my interest in The Pretty Reckless has grown. The track with Soundgarden is amazing.
Then add The Warning to it and it's a yummy recipe. Dani gives me a major Lzzy vibe but the way she was 10 years ago.
But, they aren't coming anywhere near me so I guess I'm out of luck again (DT with Arch Echo was another dream show that didn't happen for me).
-
That's actually a pretty weird tour itinerary in that they are skipping NYC and the entire west coast.
-
Talking about weird, Halestorm is playing Summerfest in Milwaukee on July 7th, then all 3 bands are playing Michgan on the 8th and then The Pretty Reckless and The Warning are both playing the same stage at Summerfest on the 9th.
As much I would like to see that tour, I'm just happy to catch The Warning's headline show in Chicago on 4/28. I've seen Halestorm a few times and The Pretty Reckless once when they opened for Halestorm. Lzzy actually tipped me off to both of those bands by calling them out on her socials.
-
I'm tentatively going to see The Warning on May 26. The venue is a small club and an even smaller room within that club. According to a guy at my office, his daughter's high school band played there, so the capacity sounds like it's going to be REALLY small. The interesting thing is that the venue's website says tickets are $20, but when you click the link to buy, it takes you to Live Nation, and the only thing available is a $97 (plus fees) GA resale ticket (singular).
-
Saw them last night in Minneapolis.
Fantastic show!..great energy, playing to the crowd, etc.
I'm starting to like a lot of the work from Queen of the Murder Scene more now.
review pending on YouTube
-
I see them tonight in Chicago. Going to be a fun night!
-
Looks like the show in Santa Ana is sold out and all that's available are $100+ secondary market tickets. If that's the case, I'll be passing.
-
Chicago show was fantastic! Placed filled up pretty good for a band that has been mostly independent up until recently. The crowd was raucous and singing along and handling backup. The sound was excellent. Just a hair louder than it needed to be, but every instrument was crisp and all vocals could be clearly heard. Ale's bass was just a monster. She is just a ridiculous player. My eyes were fixated mostly on Paulina. She is just so fun to watch. The energy and the passion and the interplay with the crowd. She knows how to keep attention and still play amazingly well.
My only disappointment is that I really wanted Queen Of The Murder Scene. Instead we got Ugh, so I'm not all that upset.
Pretty funny as I scanned the room to get a feel for the fanbase. It's exactly what I expected. Mainly half middle-aged white dudes and half young Hispanics. Narcisista and Martirio were big hits with the crowd.
Wished they played longer, but for $25 I feel we got our money's worth.
-
Dull Knives (Cut Better) is a new favorite of mine.
"Survive" live is off the charts. It's so infectious, and they have this amazing inertia and energy on that one.
-

I should like this band more than I do.
-
Their full album was released today as well. So far, so good.
-

How does this compare to previous releases?
-
The previous ones were hit or miss for me. But this album is very solid from start to finish. A bit polished but I think that is what they needed. Hope they release physical copies.
-
Good to hear. I heard a few bits and pieces from them and thought what the hell I'll just buy those two albums basically blind, but they ended up being hit or miss for me too.
-
ERROR is really good.
For some reason, the MayDay tunes sound better or have grown on me a little more, plus the new tracks I'm really digging.
-
bump.
it hasn't been made public, but a fanatical coworker of mine whose whose part of their Patreon, just today got word that they are going to Open for MUSE in Mexico for 4 dates including their hometown in Monterrey, on Muse's current tour in the next 10 days.
Pretty big deal, and should give them exposure to a ton of new fans.

Saw some pics from when they opened for G&R in Monterey, one of those rare moments where the stadium was packed for the opener. Gotta love it
Still need to do a thorough dive into their discography, but Black Holes is a heartwrenching song, absolutely breathtaking.
-
Their first 2 albums are excellent. Queen Of The Murder Scene is easily my favorite of theirs. They have no business being that good at that age. Just crazy.

That comes to my mind as well, not the skill, been spinning Japanese prodigies for way too long to doubt the skill of youngsters, but the maturity in their writing. There's some serious life experience packed into some of what I've heard, both in theme and composition, that totally belies their age. Only band I can think of that young that sounds that experienced is Asterism, and their instrumental.
-
Really enjoy The Warning. Got my daughter into them too.
They were doing this headline gig at a tiny old theater in Monterey, California this past fall as they were wrapping their touring, but we couldn't justify the mid-week haul down there to see them. Looking forward to music from them and the next tour.

Well they recently did some writing in Tennessee so a new album may be coming sooner rather than later.

I don't know what I did to enrage the great Skynet algorithm, but Facebook is CONSTANTLY pushing this band at me, who I have never listened to, mentioned, or talked about before. Constantly getting sponsored content and suggested posts and groups to a level I've never seen before. To the point I actively refuse to listen to them because I don't want to reinforce this bullshit and get even more of it.
-
Have you ever thought about listening to them?

Can't wait for the show next month.

I literally feel like they're being shoved down my throat at every opportunity.

Disappointed there is no Chicago date on this run. Would love to see Plush as well. Moriah has an incredible set of pipes.
They pulled well here on the first run, but I know they are going to Europe with Muse and festivals so it might be a while.

This is the first I've heard of Plush and I guess I'll add them to the list of bands to check out. I watched a few videos and they may do the best cover of Barracuda I've ever heard
-
A guy at work and I got tickets for the May 3 show. Same venue where I saw DT and Fates Warning back in '94. It's on a Wednesday, and the venue is just over 3 miles from our office, so we'll grab dinner and get there when we get there. Two opening bands: Plush and Holy Wars. No idea about either.

Musically, Plush is really good. And the singer is incredible. Lyrically, depending on your age, some of it may not be for you. It's not a record I go back to, as the lyrics are...certainly from a young woman's point of view of being a young woman. Not something I can relate to. But my daughter loves them, and my wife does too. Great band. And the singer, Moriah Formica, also sings for TSO and seems like a wonderful, down to earth person.
The Warning - those ladies have been together as a band for years, and their new record shows it. This should really be an incredible tour.
-
So...I went to see The Warning last night.
The show was at a small club where, almost 30 years ago, I had seen Dream Theater and Fates Warning. Given the passage of time, the place didn't seem familiar, but no surprise there. My friend and I stopped and got dinner before the show. Doors opened at 6:00, and the first band went on at 7:00. "VIP" parking was $25 and in the lot of the club. We opted for regular $10 parking, which seemed to be about a half mile away.
We got there around 7:20, and the opener, Holy Wars, was playing. The band consisted of a drummer, a "guitar player" and a female singer. The "guitar player" seemed more interested in making noise than actually playing guitar. I thought they were awful. Fortunately, we only saw two songs in full before their set was done around 7:30.
The second band was Plush. They were really good. Their singer could front a Heart cover band with no problem, and she also played guitar. The songs were fairly rudimentary, but they put on a good show, with covers of KISS's Heaven's on Fire (a nod to them having played on a "KISS Cruise") and Heart's Barracuda. The only problem was some sound issues (the lead guitarist was barely audible, and the bassist's levels dropped significantly when she changed instruments about halfway through). I couldn't discern lyrics, so the issues Brian mentioned didn't bother me.
The Warning was solid, but I expected more. I went into the show without having listened to any of their material. I'd heard a few songs here and there, but I had no real familiarity. They had big energy (although the bass player was somewhat Myungesque with her demeanor). It was somewhat distracting to have a song start with the guitar player singing lead and then, all of a sudden, it was the drummer, but the voice sounded almost the same. They were tight. I thought the bassist was the best of them musically, but they were very one-note. It was very hard to tell how one song was different from another. I'm sure the songwriting will mature as they get a bit older.
All in all, a solid evening of music.
-
Going tonight. What time did they finish? Seems like a short show, which works for us tonight.
We're really familiar with both The Warning and Plush, so excited to see each band play for the first time.

Hmmm...I looked at my phone shortly after Holy Wars was done, and it was 7:36. I think Plush got about 45 minutes and were done by 8:30. I was home well before 11:00, so I think The Warning was probably done by 10:00.

Thanks Paul. Cool. Music to my ears, as I have to be in the office before dawn tomorrow.

Goo, I'm hoping it's what's on their website:

Note the tour shirts, etc.

If you see a handsome, older gent with either a Seven Spires shirt or a Nemophila Hoodie...say hi

The layout of the place where I saw them (The Observatory in Santa Ana) was weird. There was an open air bar to the far right of where we came in, an open room where a few people were sitting that might have had a merch table next today, and the actual venue all the way to the left. Since it was GA, I wasn't inclined to leave our spot and explore, and there was no merch between where we were and the door where we exited, so I have no idea what was there.

I'm oddly enough, in San Francisco right now, tonight/this weekend for a cousin of mine's wedding.
It's also my wife's birthday today, so I unfortunately won't be able to go to the show (We're going out to dinner to celebrate her bday).
But enjoy the show!
-
Inside the venue... They don't have the merch set up yet. Never seem the merch not ready by the time the doors opened.
-
Holy Wars just finished. Pretty meh... Did enjoy the singer jumping into the crowd and having fun though.
-
Just got home... Plush was fun, good performance all around for sure and an incredible cover of Barracuda.
The Warning however blew me away. Such a tremendous amount of stage presence from the young ladies, especially guitarist Dany who was truly something to behold. Talk about the total package musician.. Killer guitarist, massive vocalist, and just fucking owned that audience.
Also, there sound and mix was so in point, I think my ply complaint would be drummer Pau's vocals were low in the mix when she sang lead.
Very impressed, and I'll definitely catch any future shows they do.
-
I tried to look for you man, but didn't see anyone wearing what you said you were wearing. We were all the way in the back, center, in front of the soundboard. I had my family with me, and we don't let my daughter get in the throngs of GA shows.
Simply put, The Warning blew this old fogey away. These gals did bands like King's X and Rush proud as a power trio. Energetic set, tight, the sound was amazing, some good charisma from the guitarist/vocalist (Dany) really made the whole performance pop. But the most important thing? They were live. Both The Warning and Plush were totally live, except for a slight effects track running for The Warning, that wasn't really noticeable except for the performance of a new song called "More." I'll get to Plush shortly, but man, yeah, The Warning just smoked it.
While young, you can tell they've been playing for over 10 years, and have multiple albums and tours under their belts. They were absolutely dialed in, and all three sisters support one another musically in their songs. It was a legit powerhouse performance.
As a singer who lives with two ACTUAL singers, including one who is professionally trained and has a handful of original songs published, I always key on the vocals. Dany's voice (the guitarist) has the most character to it. Pau, the drummer, has the most range, and does the high harmonies. And Ale, the bassist, has some spot lead lines, but mostly does background. At some point, they will bust out a King's X-like three-part harmony, as their songwriting improves. Which isn't to say their songwriting is bad, FAR from it. Their current album, ERROR, is absolutely outstanding, and as a big test for me as a fan, I want a band whose album I like to be performed to close to the same quality on stage - and The Warning nailed it. In fact, the older songs from previous records came off BETTER live, which prompted me to go get the CD versions of those, since I had only had those early albums digitally.
Overall, they got on at 8:50, and played until 10:10, I believe. So a solid 80 minutes and 17 songs.
The only thing "critical" that I'd say is this: They may want to re-think putting "EVOLVE," the encore song, into the main set and moving something like "CHOKE" down there. Go with something memorable and catchy. "EVOLVE" is great, and maybe it has higher streaming numbers or whatever they use to figure all that out. But I felt a more catchy tune should have closed the evening. But the crowd really didn't care (nor did I, when it was happening).
A huge, huge thumbs up, and as I said to my girls on the ride home (and they agree), I'll never miss The Warning when they are playing even remotely in my neck of the woods. (Unless it is a festival, I don't do festivals.) We had a chance after Aftershock last year to go see The Warning in the Monterey area (that's about a 3.5 hour drive) do a one-off headline show, and we passed because it was in the middle of the week, the long drive, etc. That happens again, we'll take a day off and do it. They were that good.
For me, The Warning checks a lot of boxes. Great energy, thoughtful lyrics that are a bit mature for their years (which this old fogey loves) and makes you think, some progressive tendencies, killer vocals, and heavy riffing. The musicianship all around is top notch. I think Pau, the drummer, is the most accomplished of the three, but Dany and Ale play great too. Only going to get better.
Regarding merch - everything on their website is available at the tables. The main tour shirt (the colorful pic of them on the front and the dates on the back) sold out of S, M, L, very quickly. I snagged a large (luckily) of that, the girls got the secondary one (the black and white band pic on front and the dates on the back). I also picked up the green hat (love that thing), and the previously mentioned other two CDs that I didn't have on physical media. The other shirt I wanted to buy was just the simple black T with their logo on the front. They had ZERO larges available, and we were on line probably a half hour after doors opened. So just FYI.
Anyway, if The Warning are playing by you, and you like the qualities I mentioned above (the things that "check the boxes" for me), do yourselves a favor and go.
Regarding the openers:
Family and I are big fans of Plush, which features Moriah Formica on vocals (TSO, The Voice contestant). Man, girl can fucking WAIL. Saw her with TSO last year, and she did a beautiful rendition of Savatage's "Not What You See" which is one of my favorites. And she has YouTube vids of her singing (just her and a guitar) a ton of cool stuff from the 80s and 90s (she did a great cover of "Someone Else?" by Queensryche). Anyway, Moriah did NOT disappoint in the vocal category. As mentioned above, she sang a killer cover of "Barracuda" by Heart, and another cover of "Heaven's on Fire" by KISS (I'll get to those shortly), but for me, her vocals on "Athena," my favorite tune from them (has an Alter Bridge vibe), were mind blowing. She just has range (and CHARACTER) to her voice for days. Just a total powerhouse. Absolutely the finest singer in the house last night from all three bands.
Musically, Moriah is also the lead guitarist, and she had some pedal board issues most of the night, so sadly, a couple songs sounded weird. Her guitar cut out a lot. But still had a blast. It returned toward the end of the show. As for the rest of the band, solid players. Not spectacular, but will get better. The most seasoned of the bunch is Ashley Suppa, who is the bassist and primary background vox singer. She has great feel. Bella Perron is classically trained at Berkeley, but she mostly plays rhythm (she does some spot lead runs in songs, but Moriah typically does the featured solo). I think she'll blossom as she gets older. And drummer Faith Powell, is literally right out of high school (graduated last year). Really talented, but still a bit green.
And "green" is how I'd label their set construction. They saved a new song, that really no one knows (it's out, but not a lot of traction so far) for their last song. They should have put their big single, "Hate" or the song I love the most "Athena" in that closing spot, to leave people with a crusher and more memorable tune. And what I mentioned above about covers - yes, they were well done, but I really wished Plush would have filled those spots with two of their originals. They only get 35 minutes, and those two covers...just not needed. Showcase your own tunes.
That said, I felt they were a good opener, unfortunately that had some technical difficulties, but they have a lot of promise. And remember the name Moriah Formica. That woman, all 4'10" of her, is...she is a VOICE.
After The Warning, the opening bands went upstairs to The Fillmore's poster room (for those who aren't from the Bay, The Fillmore does a special poster for every headliner who sells out, right on sight, the night of the show. They hand those out to people who are at those shows - sadly, The Warning did not sell out, my guess was about 550 people in attendance and capacity is 825, I think - and then frame one and put it in the venue somewhere). Well, both Plush and Holy Wars (I'll get to the latter in a second) went up there after the show for meet and greets. Totally free, really casual. We went up there (my daughter LOVES Moriah, we all do, really, but she's really someone that my daughter looks up to vocally). Now, being an old fogey, I felt weird. These gals could be my kids. So I told my wife "no way I go solo to take a pic, it's gotta be both of us, because I'm not being a dirty old man." She laughed, and wanted the pic anyway, so cool. Anyway, so my daughter goes up solo, and all four of them gush at her, making her night. Hugs, talking about school, the fact my daughter sings, the drummer (again, just out of high school) asked about choir, told her about her experience in marching band, etc.) Just took care of her. Took a great pic. Then my wife goes, "hey, can we grab a pic too, we're her parents." The Plush gals enthusiastically beckoned us over with huge smiles and we talked. Turns out Moriah and Ashley (bassist) are both from NY, and Ashley spends a lot of time in a town on Long Island (Setauket) nearby where I grew up. So the three of us did some NY bonding, we thanked them for a great set (and I put in some kudos for that TSO performance of "Not What You See" by Savatage, which was greatly appreciated), and then we left. Great evening.
Now, that band Holy Wars...how can I say this. They are a working band, I give them credit, but not my thing. The guitar player (as I think Paul mentioned in his post) was not as good as he tried to make himself out to be. And the singer...she was more into shaking her ass at the crowd. Not sure how well they really came off to the crowd (the singer was begging for energy early, and had some more eyes after shaking her butt more toward the end of the set), but I came away with the opinion that their music just isn't for me. And...the worst part...they were piping in bass, they had no bass player. ::) I mean, come on man. Just hire someone. The bass lines of your material aren't that hard. Just do it live. I know costs and everything, but come on. Anyway, not our thing at all.
But we had a great time, The Warning absolutely SLAYED :metal and we got some cool memories of Plush (and The Warning, obviously). Great night overall.
p.s. never eat Burger King from Emeryville, CA at 11 p.m. You'll pay for it at 3 a.m. Just word of caution, fellow NorCal folks. :lol

nice reviews! they are a really great, energetic live band.
I got back to my hotel last night and noticed the show was streaming on Instagram, per I caught the last 20+ minutes of their set.
My co-worker whose on their Patreon has said they have been playing part of a new song live, but I forget the title. Apparently they recorded it recently and it should be coming out soon. I forget the date he said, but even in May or June perhaps.
But looking at the set list on setlist.fm, I don't see it.

they're releasing the new song, More, on May 12th. That was actually one song I got complete video and am uploading now.
Samsara...you definitely wouldn't have found me, I was second row right in front of Dany. I agree with everything you said about the show though, on all fronts. Plush I went in blind, not knowing a single song of theirs. I had no idea the singer was a TSO alum, but it defintely makes sense. Holy Wars not only piped in their bass, but it was so fucking loud, just destroyed their overall sound. And yeah, that guitarist thought he was wayyyy better than he actually was :lol , the singer was fun though, when she jumped into the crowd she piped a few lines of the song to my friend and I and was all cheer and joy. Whether I like the music or not, it's good to see her giving it her all and having fun with it.
Aaaand in the time I typed that, my video finished uploading... decent visuals from a shit cameraman...sound is quite excellent for my S23 Ultra, really happy with how this thing shoots shows...

I'm practically obsessed with More. Definitely an evolution on their previous sound that some people might not be keen on, but IMO their core strengths are still there, and I always like hearing something that's both heavy and upbeat. They come across as positive people, so I'm not too surprised to hear them come up with material that isn't as dark as their previous stuff.
I agree with Samsara's earlier comments that Pau comes across as the most impressive instrumentalist of the three, though they're all quite good. Her playing has a lot of personality even when she's not doing anything particularly complex. She also has a massive rock star presence and a ton of charisma—she practically takes over the More video. Dany sort of seems like the biggest star of the band right now as the lead guitarist and primary singer—and she is great—but she'd better watch out.

If Pau didn't have to sit behind the kit, she'd dominate the stage. She's so brilliantly animated throughout their performances.
-
Yeah if Pau wasn't stuck behind the drum kit she would 100% be the frontwoman. Dany is no slouch in the charisma department either but she's just one of those performers that's hard to take your eyes off of.
As for More I dig it. I like when bands play around with their sound especially with The Warning because whatever they do it still sounds like them. That being said I hope we get more QOTMS sounding material at some point. That's a no skip album for me right there.
-
Agreed with everything about Pau. I actually like her voice better than Dany's and I love Dany.
From what I have gathered watching interviews and such, Pau seems to be the biggest creative force in the band. Sounds like most songs start from her (on the piano, no less!) and then Dany and Ale come in and they expand upon Pau's demo's. Not surprised really. Pau is clearly an alpha in every way.
-
From a vocal perspective, I think Dany is perfect for the hard rock side of their sound because she has a ton of power and is good at bringing the right sort of edge when she needs to. But Pau has a great voice as well. It's interesting listening to songs where the two of them share leads because their voices are like different shades of the same color. Would love to hear them include more vocal harmonies—and bring Ale into the mix a little more, too.
-
Ale seems perfectly happy with the amount of vocal responsibilities she has lol. She sings when she has to and not a note more.
It's funny when she has to take over lead on a couple songs when Dany is sick. She does a good job but you can tell she's not happy about it.
-
Huge The Warning fan right here. I have been rocking them for years.
More has grown on me a lot. That chorus is so fat.
-
They did a long delayed private show in the UK which was a kickstarter tier for when they were doing the last album. The organizers recorded the show in 4K and is now on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07wjiNny3W8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07wjiNny3W8)

Thanks for this.
One thing I have noticed since they have started their first true long-term touring is that Pau has really toned down the power with which she plays. You watch those earlier shows from the QOTMS days and she is beating the crap out of her drums. She's playing much more controlled and calm now. Might be maturing as well. I mean, she just turned 21 or something like that.
Her mic sounds terrible in this though. Tinny and drops out here and there. I think she really needs a better mic or something. Neal Morse has never had a problem with his drive-thru headset but I think they really need to do something with Pau's.
-
yeah pau's mic I've noticed can sound drastically different show to show. It sounds perfect some nights and other nights ya get this.
-
She was overpowering in the one song I watched (Narcisista), which wasn't her fault, seemed like a mixing issue. Bass was pretty low, too.
-
Yeah, forgot to mention that Ale was way too low in the mix. Like Rush, the bass is a very primary instrument in their sound and needs to be nice and loud. When I saw them in Chicago, her bass was booming. It was awesome. She tends to carry a lot of the melody much like Geddy did.
-
When you wear a wireless mic and are drumming, it obviously impacts things. I am a fairly new fan to this band (picked up ERROR about a year ago, and some of the records, saw them a couple months ago), but if Pau is a bit more subdued, drumming-wise than in years past, it's probably due to her vocal commitments and making sure her voice is consistent as possible.
I love drummers that are technical and powerful, but once they strap that mic on, it becomes about the groove.
Great band. I heard "More" performed live, wasn't sold on it, but haven't listened again. Looking forward to the new record. But man, ERROR was such a great statement.
-
She looks more subdued than usual even compared to this year. Maybe she's unsure if availability of replacement parts if she broke a drum on the UK tour because she's done that before lol.
Especially during a private show that the fans paid for
-
"More" took some time but I love it now.
"Money" still hasn't clicked with me.
-
I liked money but it was my least favorite on the album until I heard a live version of it. The added energy and the crowd interaction just bumps it up a couple notches. Which is why I want an official live album ASAP. I know they do plenty of taped shows but I want one I can pull up on Spotify
-
I really like Money pretty much from when it came out as a single. And it's great live too.
-
Surprise show announced for Chicago today on 8/19. Already got my ticket. Was going to pull the trigger on a meet and greet but they sold out in less than 2 hours. Not a big deal. Just glad I get to see them again so soon.

Blabbermouth just posted a piece about them

Yeah, their debut album Error. Try their third album. Just because the first 2 were totally independent doesn't mean they don't count. I don't expect Blabber to be thorough with facts.
-
So I'm a Patreon member and they just released the full video for the Teatro show to us. Been watching it tonight and it is fan-freakin'-tastic! They have put a few songs on YouTube from this show, but the full setlist is 22 songs. The sound is amazing. Third song was QoTMS. Did not get that in Chicago the first time around so I really hope we get it next month. That whole album is just a masterpiece to me.

They have put a few songs on YouTube from this show, but the full setlist is 22 songs. The sound is amazing. Third song was QoTMS. Did not get that in Chicago the first time around so I really hope we get it next month. That whole album is just a masterpiece to me.
This might be the thing that gets me to sign up. I’ve been loving the individual songs they’ve released from it.

More got included in this list of 2023 Songs

The Warning, "More"
The Warning, the hard rock sister-trio from Monterrey, are on an upward spiral. After the success of 2022’s Error, their first release on Lava Records, they’ve returned with their latest single, “More.” The track finds the band dipping their toes into the world of alt-rock, while still remaining true to their hard rock roots. — ST

Saw them for the first time last night, and absolutely loved it! It was crazy seeing them in a tiny venue where I was able to stand just a few feet from the stage (even though I hit really bad traffic and missed the first song). Dany's power and presence surpassed everything I expected from seeing videos. She commanded the room with an energy that could have commanded a whole stadium while making each person feel like she was connecting with us directly. There were a few moments where it felt like she (and Pau) were making direct eye contact with me, although I suspect the lights were such that they couldn't see anyone outside of the very front all that clearly—probably more something they have in terms of connecting with people.
Setlist was really good; I'll share my thoughts in small text in case the Chicago folks (or other NA fall tour folks) don't want to be spoiled:
QotMS was one of the highlights of the show. That song has so much power live, and the increased grit Dany has been adding since the album version was recorded adds a lot. It got a really enthusiastic reception, too, as did Dust to Dust—interesting seeing as I might have expected a crowd to be less familiar with the first two albums.
The crowd also did a great job with the "Na na" chorus of Narcisista, which Dany started teaching us until she realized we already knew it. And on Choke, the audience completely took over most of the intro, which she seemed to really enjoy.
Was also really happy to hear Amour, which is a meaningful song to me. Kool-Aid Kids was another big highlight; that's a song I slept on for a while but now would put in the top half of Error.
The rotating song was When I'm Alone, which I think they might have gone into because Ale and Pau were having some kind of issue. I'm not sure, but it seemed like they were trying to talk about something during the song before. Anyway, I thought it was really well placed in the setlist and would consider it another highlight.
This is now absolutely a no-miss band for me whenever they come within a three hour radius. I would love to see them in a small club environment again, because it was really special seeing a band I love in that setting . . . but I have a feeling they're right on the cusp of reaching a much bigger audience, so next time might be in a different sort of venue. I hope it is, because they deserve it.
-
my co-worker who introduced me to them is driving down to Indianapolis for the show there next Thursday. I wish they were coming to Minnesota, but alas.
I do think you're right in that they could start to play bigger venues rather soon (although not Arenas or stadiums necessarily).
-
For me, this band is like when you see something on the menu at a restaurant, and it looks like a dish you would totally enjoy, and then you get it, and you find out there is something missing, like there is not enough cilantro, or too many onions. It's good, but you cannot figure out what it is that is keeping it from being delicious.
-
Obviously they may just not be quite for you, but how much of their live stuff have you seen? I was on the fence for a while; I liked the Mayday EP and got Error right when it came out, but didn’t really get into it at the time. Watching the songs they’ve been releasing from their CDMX show made something click. I knew from their music videos that they had tons of energy and charisma, but seeing them perform to a live audience was something else.
-
Yeah, while I enjoyed their music, seeing them live is a whole other monster. It's brutally obvious these girls have been polishing their performance for a decade together, and man did they bring it 100%
I for one will definitely catch them any time they play near here.
-
I love their studio music and the live videos I have watched. They have all the youthful energy.
-
Saw them in Chicago last night. It was hot, sold out, and I don't think there was any A/C in the venue. I am not the biggest fan of Bottom Lounge. Nowhere to sit and a low stage so for a short guy like me, not great. I was barely able to see any of the girls at all. Due to no drum riser, Pau was really low. I tried my best to peer through the heads to focus on Pau. She was extra super saucy last night. Just magnetic to watch. Her drums were mixed well this time and her drive-thru mic was better than last time but could have been better still. Dany was also super fiery last night as well. Really embracing that frontwomen role. Ale was Ale. Booming bass in the mix and low key as always.
Got my QotMS last night. That song is so heavy and just awesome to see live. 17 tracks in the set and almost all from Error. 3 from QotMS and 1 from XXI.
Since they sold this place out I hope for a nicer, little bigger venue next time through.
-
After I got to see it in NJ, I’ve seen QotMS go in and out of the setlists and I’d been hoping it’d get back in for you—especially since it was one of the show highlights for me.
Sounds like the venue setup wasn’t really optimal, so that’s unfortunate, but glad to hear DPA were great! I agree that they could still improve Pau’s microphone setup. The mix at my show was great in every way except that she was a little low.

Good lord.. I'd imagine they turned heads throughout the day.

-
That is an incredible version of More.
-
They're just not so polished live. Such a tight band.
-
They debuted 2 new songs at their show today.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNFmm3z7tZM (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNFmm3z7tZM) - Sick
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNgjui3YO30 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNgjui3YO30) - Hell You Call a Dream. Dany is really going for it on this one hitting some of the highest notes I've heard from her.
People concerned with their musical direction with More should be happy with these.
-
Nice songs, especially HYCAD.
-
yeah both are good, HYCAD is great. Dani really extends herself on that 1.
New album has me pretty intrigued. I can say, from my co-worker Patreon-contributor, all of the guitars are done on the new album. Vocals, bass and drums?..not likely yet. But there likely will be a new album coming in 2024, maybe even in the 1st half.
-
Diggin' both of those. I didn't listen all the way, as I want to be surprised. But I heard enough of both to be really impressed. Looking forward to a new record. I introduced my daughter and wife to them, and both love the band. My daughter is a hardcore fan now. Can't wait for a new record. :metal

They did a live stream before the music video dropped and Pau had to stop herself from saying it's the 2nd song off the new album. So I think one is coming but just not officially announced yet.
-
They posted a pic on Instagram with Michael Starr and said how unbelievable it was to meet him and rock out on stage together. I would love to see them with Steel Panther. Had to be quite the scene.
-
S!CK is yet another winner from these chicks. What a cool video.
Does anyone know what that musical "thing" is called at 2:40? They do one normal chorus (2:28) but the second one right after something is different and it makes the sound even thicker and heavier. I think the bass plays a lower note that's "off" but still works. I've also heard this thing in other songs as well and I love it when bands do it but it's not very common.
-
Hmm yeah, there is a little difference on that chorus. It might have another instrument giving some extra flair, maybe keyboard or a second guitar. Nice find!
-

There's something similar, and maybe more clear, at 6:50 of At Wit's End where JM plays a "wrong" note. If you start at 5:55 to get the feel of the melody and structure and then hear the 6:50 note it hits pretty hard.
I just found another example at 3:18 of Halestorm's "Tell Me Where It Hurts" if you start from 2:58 to get the feel first.
Is there a musical term for this?
Also, I'm just totally blown away by The Warning's stage presence. They perform like they've been touring for 20 years and their sound is so huge for just 3 people. It really adds so much to the experience when the artists look like they're enjoying being there.

I love the artwork. It brings to mind the concept of how artists are beholden to the record label and executives.
Just pre-ordered my daughter a shirt/CD combo, and CDs for my wife and I, at their label website. Should be cool.
-
Hell You Call a Dream is already addictive.
-
Both new songs are great, with some different feels than older material. Need a couple more listens to form thoughts. These girls can't write a bad song.
-
I just picked up their discography.
They write some really catchy hooks and melodies. I really like "When I'm Alone".
It blows me away that they write and perform like seasoned veteran rockers that have been doing this for 25 years.
Dany is a great frontman and Pau is doing a great MP performance back there and Ale is amazing.
The fact that they have such a huge sound with just the three of them is crazy also.
The Warning is my new Halestorm but I've soured on them big time ever since Into the Wild Life and have been taking an extended break from them but I just went back to their early stuff and it's so much cooler than the new stuff.

I like that bass tone. Great vid!
-
The most amazing part of that live performance is they all had the flu.
As much as I love all the content they release for free they really need to release an official live album at some point. I would buy a cd/blu ray in a heartbeat.

I know this post is old, but:
p.s. never eat Burger King from Emeryville, CA at 11 p.m. You'll pay for it at 3 a.m. Just word of caution, fellow NorCal folks. :lol
Dude, come on! There's an In N Out 15 minutes up the freeway on your way home. What were you thinking? :lol
Anyhow, I really dug them when I first heard of them just before they officially got signed, and then I lost track of them. I need to get some of their music. I'm sure I'll like the new stuff as much as I liked the earlier stuff I heard. I have been wanting to see them, but just haven't followed enough to make it happen. Bri, if they are playing close by and you are going, let me know.

Don't tempt me... I'm sure I could wrangle a Gacharic Spin and Senri Kawaguchi show into the trip... Trust me, I've put a ton of thought into doing a Japan metal trip. I've had a few friends who have done it, and they all absolutely love the country

:tup I want to say that I saw they were playing Ace of Spades up here not too long ago, but it slipped off my radar and I never ended up going. (although I may be confusing that with another show) That would be great if they played up here. But either way, I'll travel to SF if it's on a night I can do it.

"Automatic Sun" coming April 5th
https://www.instagram.com/reel/C49IOTYJPoO/

This is shaping up to be their most diverse album yet. While I personally prefer the more stripped back production of Error I appreciate that all the production choices seem to fit the songs perfectly so far.

this one is a little more dissonant, grindy.
-
Dig this new one. I like the dirty, heavy vibe in the intro, and the build into the chorus. Looking forward to the album. I pre-ordered copies for the family.
-
That "yeah" at the end, thats cool
-
These new songs sound so much fuller and epic than everything they've done before. Dany is proving to be quite the frontman and that's saying a lot since all 3 of them are engaging and fun to watch.
That "yeah" at the end, thats cool
Yeah. There's just something about it.
-
They are touring Canada with Evanescence and Halestorm later this year. Would die to see that show.
Just saw they sold out a 10,000 seat venue in Mexico City in 1 whole day. On top of selling out every date of their current European tour. It's happening for these ladies and they deserve it all.
-
yeah there's hope they could get on SNL..although so many do; there was a Facebook group to get The Dear Hunter on SNL many years ago.
they are premiering the new video for "Qué Más Quieres" (Q+Q) in just a few minutes

and Pau wrote and co-directed this one too.

I had no chance to get Extreme/Living Colour tickets at The Commodore cuz of those dipshits.

We've heard 5 of those already, I think. Sick, Que Mas Quieres, More, Hell You Call a Dream, and Automatic Sun. If the whole album is on this level, this is going to be an excellent album.
-
Frustrating thing is that you can't find their CDs anywhere. Vinyl at near $40 each? Sure. Streaming only? Sure. CD? Nope.
From what I've heard of the album, it's pretty good, but I much prefer the direction on their earlier stuff, especially Error.
-
1st 2 albums were self-released and, therefore, they hold total control over them and only sell physical versions on their website. Error was from a label but is odd that it also can only be bought through them.
The new album is available everywhere, plus they have signed copies through their store. I bought the vinyl and CD from Amazon, well, pre-ordered. Then I picked up a 'Pau Edition' of the special signed version from them.
If anything is currently out of stock at their store, it will eventually come back in stock.
