Title: Total Concerts You've Seen - count 'em up!
Post by: Samsara on April 17, 2019, 10:55:23 AM
I was looking in the DT section, and saw a fellow board member is about to go to his 50th Dream Theater show (amazing). That got me thinking, it would be cool to see how many shows all of us have ever attended, in general, from all bands. I can put mine, and maybe folks would be interested in following suit?

Total Concerts Attended (through today): 230

First concert: Queensryche - July 18, 1995, Jones Beach, N.Y.
Last concert: Fates Warning - April 1, 2019, Redding, CA

Top-5 Attended:

1. Queensryche - 36 times (last: Dec. 2013)
2. Dream Theater - 14 times (last: Mar. 2019)
3. Tesla - 11 times. (last Jan. 2012)
4. Sevendust - 10 times. (last: Apr. 2014)
5. Fates Warning - 8 times.  (last: Apr. 2019)

I did an estimation a few years back and need to update it.

My guess is somewhere around 500-600 (esp if you include Festivals and each performing group/artist as 1).

But the local artists shows I have no way to accurately research. I know I've seen Dean Magraw and Greg Herriges each like 25-30 times easily, but the list below only includes a few of the dates I could find/remember.

Mad props for counting, wow, I’d never be able to do that. :lol

Probably somewhere between 100 and 150, favourite concert is impossible for me. I’ve had so many times just throughout the last 2 years where I was floored near the end and convinced myself that was the best show ever. I can name my 2019 favorites though:

Mono + Arabrot (Berlin)
Conjurer (Complexity Fest, Haarlem)
The Ocean + Downfall of Gaia + Herod (Leipzig)
Soen (Berlin)

Oh yeah I haven’t attended a lot of bands shows multiple times. I’ve seen Leprous 3 times and The Ocean 4 times and other than that probably nothing more than once or twice

I've lost track, I'd have to go through my ticket stub booklet and my memory to figure out an actual number, but its definitely over 100 (I did that in the last three years, but my prior 30 years might not have been 100) so somewhere closer to 200 I am thinking.

My top bands:

Dream Theater (18, I did my own research recently to know this off my head)
311 (15+)
Iron Maiden (15+)
Less Than Jake (10+)
Catch 22 (10+, local ska band in NJ)

if you include Festivals and each performing group/artist as 1

ugh that adds a whole other level of complexity, I've been to 4 warped tours, 2 progpowers, and one ozzfest.  It's hard to count, but then again I saw IM/DT concert twice and does that count as 2 shows or 4 shows since I count it as 2 times seeing each band, but its not 4 totaly shows.

324 shows.  That includes festivals as 1.

Rush - 31 times.
Dream Theater - 17 times
Blue Oyster Cult - 10 times.
King's X - 9 times.
Yes (all incarnations) - 9 times.
Kiss - 9 times.

I'll come back to this and edit it later after I do the work and tally it up, but my first show - a band I wanted to see, that I paid for, not being dragged along with other people - was Dragonforce, April 24, 2009 in Sauget, IL. The most recent show I saw was Angra, September 21st, 2018 in Joliet, IL, but my next show is May 21st 2019 for Avantasia in Chicago.

I think I've seen a few dozen shows throughout those 10 years. Not much, but most of them mean something huge to me, and that's all that counts.

Looking through some vintage photos of Dallas this morning it dawned on me that I saw an outdoor show set up in the Trinity river bottoms. I believe it was Peter Frampton. This would have been in the mid-90s. Point is there are shows I don't even remember seeing. I tried to make a spreadsheet a few years ago and gave up after ~150 or so. My best guess is somewhere between 300-400 starting in '83.

As for seeing bands numerous times, I suspect Dio, Maiden, Metallica, and DT are all around 15. Tool and Megadeth are certainly over 10.

And festivals count as 1 show only.  :lol

Not counting local bands I've been to around 100 concerts and 10 bigger festivals.

Top artists are Toto (15) and Dream Theater (10).

There's a wonderful site called "setlist.fm" that allows you to click "I Was There!" at the bottom of every setlist.  If you do that - obviously just at shows you've actually been to - it populates your database, and you can answer this question down to the penny.

I'm at about 350-375 (I say "about", because I have 315 in the database, and 25 or so that I have yet to enter for various reasons.  I'd also say there's about 25 - 30 of bands that don't rate enough to get into the database, like local bands, college bands, etc.).

First:  Judas Priest/Iron Maiden, New Haven Coliseum, Oct. 9, 1982
Recent:  Claypool Lennon Delirium/Uni, College Street Music Hall, Apr. 13, 2019

Most:  Kiss (7)   (Yep, only seven; I go to a lot of shows, but I won't go see too many over and over again. There's also a LOT in the 4 or so range).

Despite being old I haven't seen that many concerts.

When I was young I lived quite far away and could not see concerts too often for monetary reasons.

When I quite late in life moved to Stocholm and could be able to see more concerts I got kids and also had no friends to go with. So I only saw 1, 2 or 3 shows a year.

Now that my kids are older and I have found friends who share my kind of music I go to about 12 concerts a year.

I think my total tally is around 100 concerts.

Top bands are
Dream Theater 12 times
Pain of Salvation 7 times
Opeth 6 times
Magnum 6 times
A.CT 5 times

Favorite concert
Peter Gabriel Secret World live

I'm around 150.  I'm very picky -- especially over the last 20 years or so.

First was Ozzy Osbourne with Ratt in April 1984.
Most recent was DT in March 2019.

Band I've seen most is Rush - 20.
DT is second most with 16.

To my shame, I stopped counting in 2013.

I began in 1998 (Iron Maiden) and they've grown exponentially every year; the first years they must have been few and selected, then it must have grown into 10-15 per year. Discovering in 2009 a folk / rock band based not so far from where I live, and being the fanbase small enough to become basically all friends, their concerts were just an excuse to hang out all together, so in almost 10 years I've seen them alone 52 times.

I estimate I've seen between 200 and 300 concerts, not planning of stopping anytime soon  :metal

Never counted, honestly. setlist.fm shows 36, and I usually tend to click "I was there" whenever I want to post a setlist, which is like half the time, and I didn't know about setlist.fm in the first few years I started attending, so I'd say about 70-80 I guess? Actively working to increase this number though.

I kept a word doc with each show listed over the years. I still keep it updated to this day, obviously, so it is easy to tally up.

And yes, if it is a festival, the festival is one show. I know for me, I put the headliner in as the "main" show, and I have a column for "support acts" and I list them out. But it all counts as one in terms of shows. But each one of those appearances by those bands counts as one time seeing each of them for the "bands I've seen the most" tally. :)

Absolutely. But I started the doc in 1995, and back then, I never used Excel. I started using it probably in the early 2000s. I didn't feel like going back and re-entering the info. So, it just all piled up. But hey, its all there, and its in columns! LOL.

My list is fairly easy to keep track of nowadays, just go to my youtube list, it's my older stuff that means I need to do some research.  I do keep my ticket stubs in a book, but not every concert I kept a stub for various reasons especially when I was younger.  And then I need to go back on my memory which I feel like I could recall, but maybe need a little help to remember exactly.  I worked on this off my memory (with the help of setlist.fm to confirm the exact dates) a year or so ago https://www.concertarchives.org/cramx3 (https://www.concertarchives.org/cramx3) and got 97 concerts listed.

Top 5 (also courtesy to setlist.fm):

Haken    14
Leprous    14
Steven Wilson    9
Anathema    6
Opeth    6

I have no idea and would not know how to go about figuring it out, simply because I've forgotten about a lot of shows I've attended.  And that's just for actual, signed bands.  When you factor in tribute bands and cover bands, who knows?  But I'll try to list some of the notables below:

First show ever:  Quiet Riot, Whitesnake, Kick Axe at the Oakland Colosseum (now Oracle arena), September 22, 1984.

I saw Whitesnake twice after that:  once as final warmup act in a festival (Day on the Green in Oakland) with Motley Crue, Poison, and Jetboy, for the s/t album, and then headlining on the Slip of the Tongue tour in Columbia, MD (I think Faster Pussycat opened).

Def Leppard 3 times:  Hysteria tour (Oakland, with Tesla opening), Adrenalize tour (Oakland--I forget who opened), and then years later co-headlining with Journey when they had JSS.  I think Def Leppard was touring on Yeah! that time, but it could have been Sparkle Lounge.

Siouxsie & the Banshees once in Berkeley around 1987 or 1988, with Julian Cope and Andy Sommer opening.

U2 at a festival in Oakland in 1987 or 1988 with The Bodeens and The Pretenders opening.

Depeche Mode in Mountain View in early 1988.

Y&T numerous times from the late '80s to the present, as well as the Meniketti solo band a few times as well.

Megadeth headlining a festival in Minneapolis with Fear Factory, Flotsam & Jetsam, and Korn opening in summer 1995.

Van Halen with some popular but awful '90s band I can't remember the name of in Minneapolis in summer 1995.

Britney Fox headling with Nantucket and Warrant (before Warrant had released their first album) in late 1988 in North Carolina.  Saw Britney Fox again at a little club in Panama City Florida in early '92 touring in support of Bite Down Hard.

Queensryche:  I've seen them a few times and feel like I may be forgetting a show or two, but here's what I recall:  Building Empires tour in late '91 in Raleigh with Suicidal Tendencies opening.  Promised Land tour in San Jose with Type O Negative opening (this is a HEAVILY bootlegged show).  Live Evolution, night #2, in Seattle.  Twice with DT in 2003, I think it was (Concord and Sacramento).  Once on the Take Cover tour in Portland.  Once with Todd on the last album cycle.

DT:  11 times, starting on the summer tour with Satch and King's X after SDOIT was released.  I posted about those shows in the DT tour thread.

Lacuna Coil awhile back on the Shallow Life tour, with a bunch of garbage bands opening.

Saw Tesla a couple of more times in the '00s.

Transatlantic in Downey on the Whirlwind tour.

Neal Morse Band in SF last month.

I dunno...several more.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Concert wish list for bands I still want to see or really want to see again:
-Epica
-Lacuna Coil (again)
-Maiden
-Symphony X
I put this together from memory. Not a complete list and not really in order. I am not including all of the local metal and punk shows I've been to (minus Ill Repute  and Dr. Know. Those were local but they are 2 of the biggest bands to come out of the Nardcore Punk scene here), and I am also not counting the dozens of shows my best friend has played (both his own bands and shows put together by the music school he used to attend / work at.) The exceptions are 2 shows he played as part of the school that also included big names)
REO Speedwagon (First real concert- 2007)
Jo Dee Messina (2007)
Yngwie Malmsteen (2007?)
Misfits x2 (2007 or 2008, 2010)
Slash* (Benefit show with Music School. By buddy on vox, Slash, and then students on other instruments)
KSM (2009- All girl Disney band that recorded and toured for a while. I was good friends with their drummer. Almost asked her out in High School)
Victor Wooten x2
Abel Laboriel
Dream Theater x8
Elton John Band* (another benefit show I believe. The "Elton John Band" minus Elton John himself, and his keyboard player Guy Babylon [who had just passed away- keys were handled by Guy's son]. My friend sang a good decent chunk of the set)
Styx
Derks Bentley (I was drug to it..)
DRI
Dr. Know
Ill Repute
Black Label Society x2
Which One's Pink? x2 (popular local PF tribute band)
Zakk Sabbath / King's X
Steven Wilson
Roger Waters x3
Leonard Cohen
Gojira
Rob Zombie / Marilyn Manson
The Addicts
Iron Maiden ( left halfway through their set... wasn't a fan back then and was there for DT)
Metal Allegiance (left halfway through. Knew people from the opening acts, and actually found Metal Allegiance to be kind of annoying.)
I'm nowhere near the levels of a lot of you, but even then I probably wouldn't be able to remember them all, despite my first ever gig only being in 2006. I used to have everything noted down on my Last.fm profile, but they redesigned the site and removed the sidebar you could edit with your own info on your profile page. Most of them came between 2009 and 2014/2015 I think, when I had a friend in Glasgow who liked a lot of the same bands. He moved away though and although I've been to a few shows on my own since and some with another friend, I rarely go to gigs anymore sadly.
1st gig - Radiohead in Edinburgh, 2006. 2nd - Muse in Aberdeen, 2006. 3rd - Dream Theater in Glasgow, 2009. Others I wouldn't remember the order/dates, so I'll post them as they come to me, but I've seen:
Radiohead
Muse
DT x5
Opeth x3 - one of those was with DT
Anathema x2 - one of those was with Opeth
Alcest - with Opeth
Deftones x2
Haken
Leprous - with Haken
Tesseract
Symphony X
Myrath - with Symphony X
65daysofstatic x2
Megadeth
Maybeshewill
Mono
Mastodon
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Long Distance Calling
Eden's Curse
God is an Astronaut
Red Sparowes
And So I Watch You From Afar
Skyharbor/sleepmakeswaves/Tides From Nebula - together
Sabaton - tagged along with a friend but had never really listened to them
Plus plenty of other support bands that I can't really remember and wasn't that interested in. Probably missed a few - especially a few bands listed there where I'm not sure if I've seen them twice or just once. Totting it up it looks to be 29 individual gigs, most of them in a 5 year period.
Not nearly as many as you guys, but let's try to tally, not counting Serbian bands:
Started going at 2008 when I was sixteen. I've seen Queen + Paul Rodgers, Sonata Arctica (the first tour with Delain) , Judas Priest and Whitesnake, then in 2014 I had a big year with four concerts  :lol Iced Earth, Amorphis, Iron Maiden and Fates Warning. After that I had a break (filled just with local gigs) until I moved to Norway - since then I've seen Kvelertak, Vulture Industries, Enslaved and finally Steven Wilson last year. So, 12 different artists I quite like.
I run a little bucket list with a few dozen bands I absolutely must see in the next few years, I scope out opportunities every time they are a flight away and I lay the potential schedule out to my husband - we pick those we both like mostly.
One thing that is fascinating to me is the notion of "opening acts".   In going back and constructing my concert-ography, I have almost all my tickets (I even have one ticket for a show - that I attended - that wasn't on any official itinerary, or in setlist; it was Billy Joel in New Haven Coliseum, and it was an added show at the last minute) but rarely do those tickets list the opening acts.   It's a BEAR sometimes trying to find out who opened what show and when.   It's amazing to me how often you get one-offs.  Meaning, Joe Blow was opening the east coast leg of the Screaming Vaginas tour, but for some reason, Joe didn't open the New Haven show, it was Smell My Feet.  Or something like that.
I also have about four or five instances where I technically "saw" a band, but either don't remember it, or I didn't like them at the time and it didn't register, but now I am kicking myself.   The biggest one for me is Garbage.  I LOVE them and I have a sort of benign, quasi-creepy dad-crush on Shirley Manson, and it turns out I saw them - opening for I think it was U2 - and I kick myself now for not paying more attention.  I've also seen Lenny Kravitz I think five times even though I wouldn't cross the street to see him as a stand alone act; all five as an opening act for various bands (Aerosmith comes to mind).
Yea, I agree.  I print mine out and cut them to put in my booklet so it looks more like a ticket, but its lame.  For awhile I was paying the extra fee for the stub, but then they started charging even more for it or sometimes not even having the option.  So fuck it, I still like collecting the stub, and specifically the stub I used (Metallica this year collected all the tickets to enter the floor, but you could grab one back on your way out, so I have somoene elses ticket for that event) but its harder to do this and the payoff isn't as interesting.
When I look up who opened for DT for the concerts I saw, I'm surprised what I should have seen, but don't really remember.
I remember Spock's Beard (great), Symphony X (good) and Pain Of Salvation (not really good, but this was before I became a fan, so either they were really bad, or I just didn't get it). But I'm supposed to have seen Vanden Plas, which I don't remember at all and some other acts I have already forgotten again.
And I saw Soundgarden and Faith No More opening for Guns 'n' Roses on the Use Your Illusion tour. I didn't really pay attention because I was there for GnR. I have seen Soundgarden on tour later on but sadly never had the chance to see Faith No More again.
Dad crush?  You know she's older than you, right?   ;D
I also miss the days of ticket stubs.  I have most of mine, except for my first four shows (and I have no idea why I don't have those).  I actually paid the couple of bucks that LN charges to send an actual ticket for this latest DT show.
My biggest one is Gary Moore on the Wild Frontier tour. Really wish I'd paid more attention.
Dad crush?  You know she's older than you, right?   ;D
I would've lost a LOT of money on that bet.  NFW.
So I guess I have a quasi-creepy cougar crush!   :)
No idea.
Even counting the stubs isn't accurate anymore because in most cases you have now to pay for the privilege of printing a ticket which in most cases sadly isn't even justifiable in those conditions.
Don't think I made it to 50 Rush shows. Might be stuck at 49.
Dream Theater is definitely next at 43 or 44.
Fish/Marillion is probably 20 something.
Portnoy  and projects is maybe 25.
Tempest is around 15 but most of those were will calls.
King Crimson is around 10
Carl Palmer is around 10.
Tony Levin is around 10
Not easy to estimate without the box of ticket stubs.
I used to have a good tally but that got lost years ago. I'd say I'm in the 150 range, maybe pushing in on 200.
First- The Tubes with Joan Jett opening
Last- DT (at least until this Friday's Thank You Scientist show)
Those with more than 5...
Grateful Dead - over 30
DT - 14
Yes - 11
Rush - 10
The Kinks - 9
The Who - 5
 Those with 3 or 4 probably number in the 20 band range at least
Top 5...
Yes - Masterworks Tour
Dream Theater - Six Degrees tour
IQ- Progstock
Pete Townshend - Psychoderelict
Really tough to settle on a 5th since in the past few years I've seen a ton of shows that could qualify.
DT - x7
Coheed & Cambria - x2
Alter Bridge - x4
Periphery - x2
Killswitch Engage - x2
Haken - x2
Twelve Foot Ninja
System of a Down
A7X
Disturbed
HELLYEAH
Animals as Leaders
Van Halen
Palms
Tremonti
I'm sure there's more but I'm blanking.
How was that Tubes show?   I have a "best of..." and I LOVE some of those songs. I love Fee Waybills' voice.  But I feel like I'm missing something.  It feels like there's a LOT going on there, a LOT being said and I'm just not receiving it.   (That's not a knock, by the way).
I have all my ticket stubs and a list of all the shows on my computer. Off the top of my head, I think it’s around 190.
First concert was Streetheart with Aldo Nova in support, April 8, 1982. Last show was Michael Schenker Fest, April 25, 2019.
I've seen Iron Maiden and Metallica 11 times each, and Judas Priest 9 times. I don’t think I’ve seen any other band more than 6 times.
These threads always make me so jealous of not getting 90% of the tours for my favourite bands that hit USA/Europe over the years.
I haven't kept detailed records but as far as number of gigs for international name bands , I guess somewhere in the vicinity of 50-60  gigs.
First :  Bon Jovi New Jersey Tour 1989 (aged 14)
Most Times :  KISS * 6
I have my list at home, but the official count is around 70, since 1996.  If I counted local bar bands that I've followed, it would push me up over 100.
First Concert:  Styx, Return to Paradise reunion tour, August 1996, Las Vegas NV
Last Concert:  Iced Earth/Sanctuary - February 2018.
Top 5 (usually rotates, depending on how I'm feeling about bands/shows):
Iron Maiden - Somewhere Back in Time Tour / 2008, Chicago
Queensryche - Q2K Tour, Riviera Theater / 1999, Chicago
Rammstein - LIFAD Tour, Allstate Arena / 2011, Chicago
Pantera - Official Live Tour. Aragon Ballroom / 1997, Chicago
Megadeth - American Carnage Tour / UIC Pavillion, 2010, Chicago
As for the bands I've seen the most, off the top of my head:
Queensryche - 10
Iced Earth - 5
Megadeth - 4
Styx - 4 (Twice with DDY, twice without)
Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Motley Crue - 3 each
Dream Theater - 3
Steven Wilson - 2
Coldplay - 1
Nine Inch Nails - 1
Taylor Swift - 1
The Neal Morse Band - 1
So far, my count stands at only 17 going back to 2013 which was when I actually started going to concerts on somewhat of a regular basis.  I only saw all of the bands (opening acts included) once.  Technically, I saw Foo Fighters twice.  One in their own show, and a brief set in the Chris Cornell tribute concert.
Also, technically, I saw Myles Kennedy in his various outlets three times: one with Alter Bridge, one with Slash, and as solo.  AB was great, but I was way too sick to really enjoy it, plus I was in the nosebleeds in the theater instead of GA, so I couldn't rate it a perfect concert like I have in other concerts.  Slash and Myles and Co. played a great set, but the casino crowd was the worst crowd I have ever been in which hurts my enjoyment of it.  Slash going 15 minutes solo in Rocket Queen didn't help at all.  Seeing Myles solo stands as the very best concert I've seen (and one of those perfect concerts experiences like I had with Halestorm, Breaking Benjamin, Within Temptation, and Switchfoot).
I got 12 concerts planned up to mid-September and all goes according to intention (depending on traveling plans) here will be my tally at the end of it (including opening bands).
Shinedown - 2
Lindsey Stirling - 2
Three Days Grace (both this year) - 2
Breaking Benjamin - 2
Alter Bridge - 2 (and by proxy, Myles Kennedy - 4)
I'll try... excluding some more obscure ones.
Nevicate (a friend's band and I believe they'll break out) 9-10 times
Eppu Normaali 4
Timo Rautiainen & Trio Niskalaukaus 2
Eläkeläiset 2
Foredoomed (prog metal band my friend used to play keys for, undeniably talented but their lead guitarist/vocalist is kinda asshole and I'm not following them anymore) 2
J. Karjalainen 2019 (I also saw him when I was like five, not counting it  :lol)
Thundermother 2018
Ismo Alanko w/ Joensuu Symphony Orchestra 2017
Leprous 2017  (:metal)
Royal Blood 2017 (one of the loudest things I've heard, sadly had to leave midway through to see Leprous)
Pixies 2017
Parov Stelar 2017, (electroswing artist, one of the grooviest thing ever, had a whole band and brass section backing him)
Dream Theater 2015 (setlist sucked)
Anathema 2015 (opening for DT, blew them outta water)
Michael Monroe 2013 (vocalist for Hanoi Rocks, amazing showman)
Dark Tranquillity 2013
Nightwish 2013
Between the Buried and Me 2013
PMMP 2013
Iron Maiden (2011, another day at the office for them and touring for mediocre album)
Alice Cooper (2011, was miles ahead of Maiden)
Hells yes he was. I remember him being beheaded during Killer (I'm relying on setlist.fm on this one) and then someone, probably Vincent himself took the severed head, kissed it and spat blood towards the audience. I mean, how you're going to top that one, even if you're bloody Iron Maiden!  :lol
Also, I'm derailing the topic a bit but my mom and dad were at a festival 1986 Metallica was playing at. Apparently they hated them but took a few pictures nonetheless  :lol. I should really ask my mom to show them next time I'll visit her, there might be a couple of shots of Cliff. And thankfully I was able to convert my dad couple of decades later :biggrin:.
You'd still got to see plenty of great bands at their prime. Me, I feel most bands that bother to drag their arses all the way to this remote spot on the Earth are past their prime or will never be that good.
So I guess I have a quasi-creepy cougar crush!   :)
Maybe it's that 51/52 year old you has a crush on Shirley Manson when she was in her 30s.  If the picture in her Wikipedia entry is any indication, she's pretty scary looking now.
I saw Metallica open for Ozzy on June 14, 1986 - the third to last show they opened for Ozzy.
Also, FWIW, setlist.fm indicates that Metallica opened for Ozzy in Providence on April 23, 1986.
She's always kind of been like that; in one picture she's hotter than a blue flame, and another she looks like Butch Vig's younger brother.   I saw a video of them playing in... I think it was Mexico, from about two years ago, and she looked really good.
I'm a glass half full kind of guy, though, so as long as there's at least one blue flame picture, i'm good.  :)
I'm sure this is not accurate, I'm probably missing a dozen or so, my high school days and early 20s are a bit of a blur.
This goes back 40 years to my first concert in 1979 (No Nukes at Madison Square Garden with Bruce, the Doobies, Jackson Browne, and more; I only counted the Doobies for that one). Only 55 total off the top of my head, I don't get out much.
Most recent was Chicago last month at NJPAC in Newark, NJ.
The bands without a number are singles:
Rush - 8
DT - 5
Yes - 5
Priest - 3
Clash - 3
Bruce - 3
Styx - 3
Maiden - 2
Chicago
Cheap Trick
Van Halen
ZZ Top
Pink Floyd
REO Speedwagon
Sammy Hagar
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Outlaws
Marshall Tucker Band
Blondie
The Good Rats
The Cars
Dave Matthews Band
The Firm
Foreigner
Green Day
Jethro Tull
The Kinks
Muse
Ted Nugent
The Winery Dogs
Doobie Brothers
It's kinda funny that, not only is the show listed, a handful of people clicked the "I was there" button.  In this case, I'm guessing those folks went to the rescheduled September show and weren't paying attention to the date.
You have to be careful with it and know enough to spot the inaccuracies.   You see a lot of "copy the tracklist from the live album on that tour" nonsense, even when we know that with many vinyl live releases, the song orders were f*****d with to fit onto four relatively equal sides (like with Genesis Seconds Out).
Yup. Setlist.fm is basically wikipedia for setlists. And from my experience, even when you try to correct something you know is wrong, often you get backlash or some know-it-all schmuck reverting it back to what it was previously, just because he's more established on the website and thinks he knows better.
I found my lists from the last few years so I have an accurate count from 2016-now, count is 110.
2016: 22
2017: 32
2018: 39
2019: 17 (so far, another 14 currently on the schedule)
I think it'll be hard to top 2018, for one, my cost of living has gone up, but two, it also takes perfect timing to get so many concerts in, the right bands have to come to town that I want to see and have to be able available to see them.
It does help to live close to so many concert venues so there's almost always something going on, especially now in the summer with all the outdoor shows.
This; I know for me, it seems to be feast or famine.  There was a two week stretch end of April, first part of May, where I could have gone to shows ten nights out of 15.   Now there's nothing until August, then in September I have three in a week.
Can't Steve Hackett and Rick Wakeman get together and coordinate???  :) :) :)
Wow!  I see stuff like this and really wonder what it must be like to (1) have so many bands that you're interested in seeing live, and (2) have the time and energy to do it.  I haven't been to 39 concerts in the last 15 years combined and, honestly, can't think of 39 bands/artists that I would want to see live.
That year there were 3 concerts I went into fairly blind, all while on business trips.  Had a blast at all of them.  For me, concerts are the one thing I really enjoy doing in a large social environment so even if I don't know the bands, but have an opportunity to go to a show that I think would be fun, to me, that's still worth the effort.
Also, it helps to have a big amphitheater a couple miles away so I can always make a last minute decision to hop over to a show 3/7 nights a week during the summer.  Also another club about 20 minutes away, and then endless amounts in NYC about 75 minutes away (train, 60 minutes driving).  I bet half my concerts come from just two venues (PNC Bank Arts Center and Starland Ballroom).
Also, it helps to have a big amphitheater a couple miles away so I can always make a last minute decision to hop over to a show 3/7 nights a week during the summer.  Also another club about 20 minutes away, and then endless amounts in NYC about 75 minutes away (train, 60 minutes driving).  I bet half my concerts come from just two venues (PNC Bank Arts Center and Starland Ballroom).
I live in southern California, so I've got no shortage of venues nearby.   ;D
I found my lists from the last few years so I have an accurate count from 2016-now, count is 110.
2016: 22
2017: 32
2018: 39
2019: 17 (so far, another 14 currently on the schedule)
Wow!  I see stuff like this and really wonder what it must be like to (1) have so many bands that you're interested in seeing live, and (2) have the time and energy to do it.  I haven't been to 39 concerts in the last 15 years combined and, honestly, can't think of 39 bands/artists that I would want to see live.
That's easy.
The problem for me at this point becomes weeknight shows and having to be up early the next morning. Can still do the close ones, but 19 times out of 20, I can't justify a New York or Philly show or something similar unless it's a weekend show.
Another benefit for me, even though I'm not far from NYC, I work close by so it's often easier for me to stay overnight in NYC (and allows me to booze since I wouldn't have to drive home), and since I travel a bunch for work, I usually earn a week or so of free nights a year and what better way to burn them than for concerts?  I think I have around 10-30 free nights already from my point stash (days depend on which hotel, nicer ones are significantly more points to book than some more motel like rooms).
I think it'll be hard to top 2018, for one, my cost of living has gone up, but two, it also takes perfect timing to get so many concerts in, the right bands have to come to town that I want to see and have to be able available to see them.
This; I know for me, it seems to be feast or famine.  There was a two week stretch end of April, first part of May, where I could have gone to shows ten nights out of 15.   Now there's nothing until August, then in September I have three in a week.
Can't Steve Hackett and Rick Wakeman get together and coordinate???  :) :) :)
I don't have much on my radar for the summer, and for the most part I like it that way.  When Rush would tour in the summer it was fun, but all in all I think I prefer having a busy fall and spring for shows and having the summer to relax.
I'd love if there were more concerts in the winter personally, seems like a dead time in December-March.  I do enjoy the outdoor amphitheater shows personally, but I'd rather the shows/tours not always be so jammed in the summer.
Ah so you're the opposite and you have a lot of shows to see in the summer?  Most of the bands I want to see are in Europe in the summer, if they're on tour.  Which like I said, I kind of like that.  Winter though... if it was a band I just casually liked, that's cool.  But if I want to travel and see a few shows, weather can be really crappy.  I think Leprous and Haken had to cancel one of their shows last time around and it was either in November or December.
Yup, plus holidays so it makes sense bands dont tour those times, but yea I live next to a few outdoor venues only open for the summer.  If the big bands aren't doing Europe, they are hitting one of these local venues.  Ben Seger is tonight 5 minutes away, sold out 17k.  Sure not always my bands, but there's usually a handful I'd see and usually for cheap because I can wait till last second on stubhub or buy from a scalper.
This thread has motivated me to piece by piece sign up my attended concerts at setlist.fm. I am a collector and I have to archive everything (like on Discogs), and when I found out this was possible on setlist.fm, I just had to start to do that :D So now, whenever I think of a concert I was at, I'll add it.. Maybe I can come back to this thread again in 1 year and tell you my count  :lol
We have a lot in common.  Big fan of both Setlist.fm and Discogs.   I'm probably 90% complete with the concert database, and about 50% done with inputting my CD/DVD collection.    It's fascinating.   (With Discogs you can even drill down to different releases of the same record, or even different PRESSINGS of the same release.   Some of the nerds people on there are amazing: "Well, the Mastering SID code is clearly a Sonopress Arvato, not Sonopress USA; this means it's post 1987, and deserves it's own separate entry as a distinct release!".  OK, mate, must've missed that.)
One of the things that continuously blows me away is how many versions there are of various releases, and how... not easy, but available things I thought were "rare" really are.   I'm a song guy; there are a couple bands - DT is one, Kiss is another, Noel Gallagher is a third - and so it's awesome to be able to find stuff that places like Amazon try to make you download an entire album to get a bonus track in 192Kbps, and lo and behold, it's on this obscure soundtrack from an indie movie from 2009 and you can get it from a seller on Discogs for $0.99, free shipping if your order is over $20.
Maybe it's that 51/52 year old you has a crush on Shirley Manson when she was in her 30s.  If the picture in her Wikipedia entry is any indication, she's pretty scary looking now.
She's always kind of been like that; in one picture she's hotter than a blue flame, and another she looks like Butch Vig's younger brother.   I saw a video of them playing in... I think it was Mexico, from about two years ago, and she looked really good.
I'm a glass half full kind of guy, though, so as long as there's at least one blue flame picture, i'm good.  :)
Well I feel pretty conflicted about having a crush (#1 Crush??) on Shirley 'cause she's older than my mother.  :blush
She looks still good to me, although I wasn't a fan of the pink hair she had a couple years back. But of course she doesn't give three shits what I (or anyone else) think, and that's one of the reasons I love her.
Funny how this comes up today as I am home with a lazy sunday type of day and saw that my local ballroom has a band, Thrice, playing a full album live (I've seen them a couple times before, actually pretty decent and somewhat proggy too) so why not.  Got a 33% below face value ticket just now.  2019 ended up at 59 concerts, I said the same thing to myself as I did last year "there's no way I can top that" and that's definitely not my goal, but if it happens, it happens.  Also helps that I bought a summer pass to my local amphitheater (less than 5 miles away) so that opens a lot of doors that I may have otherwise not even looked at.
I love going to shows.  I love live music, and for most of the shows I go to ($25 to $50 a ticket) it's better than sitting in front of a TV or sitting at a bar killing brain cells.  Plus the community aspect...  I'm glad my wife understands (I have three shows in ten days coming up:  Roger Hodgson on the 15th, Geoff Tate on the 19th, and Squeeze - well, Difford and Tilbrook acoustic - on the 22nd.)
Volante99, I know they are on the list for a reason already, but make your efforts for Bruce and Maiden.  Different experiences, but both are essential, in my opinion.
I was updating my concert master list and figured this was a good time for some fun facts, if anyone cares :P.  I feel like there is one or two free ones back in the day that I left off, but as there were no ticket stubs for them and I didn't start a hard copy of this list until years later, I just cannot say for sure, so I did not include any I "think" saw.  First concert was in April 1990.
Total concerts - 121
Outdoor concerts - 39
Stadium concerts - 3 (Pink Floyd, U2, Taylor Swift - it feels like this number should be a little higher)
Rush is the band I have seen the most at 12 times, with Dream Theater at 9 times and Blue Oyster Cult at 7 times.  I have seen Neal Morse now 9 times, but that was in various incarnations (solo, Neal Morse Band, Transatlantic).
The three members of Rush are the individual musicians I have seen the most at 12 times, with, surprise surprise, Mike Portnoy right behind them at 11 times (5 with Dream Theater, 4 with Neal Morse Band, 2 with Transatlantic).
            ZZ Top - you could tell they were playing just another show in Southeast Missouri
             Metallica in 2008. James had bronchitus. They powered through but clearly not their best night
Best    - Sabaton - If you've seen them you understand
             Judas Priest in 2022. Incredible setlist and incredible show
             Metallica at Busch Stadium. Just magical.
I used to remember everything.  Not so much now.  Granted, I still have a weird knack for remembering the most random stuff, but too many years means some has seeped out.  :lol :lol
Definitely. I remember the ofdest things.
This thread has motivated me to piece by piece sign up my attended concerts at setlist.fm. I am a collector and I have to archive everything (like on Discogs), and when I found out this was possible on setlist.fm, I just had to start to do that :D So now, whenever I think of a concert I was at, I'll add it.. Maybe I can come back to this thread again in 1 year and tell you my count  :lol
Same here, unfortunately the late 80's and early 90's are a bit of a blur. I'm sure there must be more
So at the moment
"You attended 370 concerts of 205 different artists."
1   Glenn Hughes   20
2   Thunder           19
3   Deep Purple   18
4   Dream Theater   16
5   Queensrÿche   10
6   Status Quo   6
7   Iron Maiden   5
5    Blackmore’s Night   5
9   Dan Reed Network   4
10    Whitesnake       4
11    Neal Morse Band 3
Top 11 as i wanted to NMB there ;D
Concert archives tells me
Swedish Goose has seen 178 performances during 117 concerts with 109 bands at 69 venues in 17 locations.
This is not really correct as a lot of local bands and possibly a few bigger might have been forgotten as I was adding to CA a few years ago.
As a younger boy/man I did not get to see too many bands as both Gothenburg and Stockholm were quite a bit away.
Then during the years with small kids even though I lived in Stockholm I only went to one  two or three dhows a year.
Now that the kids are older I manage around 12 concerts per year.
I did an estimation a few years back and need to update it.
My guess is somewhere around 500-600 (esp if you include Festivals and each performing group/artist as 1).
But the local artists shows I have no way to accurately research. I know I've seen Dean Magraw and Greg Herriges each like 25-30 times easily, but the list below only includes a few of the dates I could find/remember.
http://allmediareviews.blogspot.com/2015/11/my-concert-attendance-history.html
I've updated it recently, including concerts/shows I already have tickets to see (some I may also try and see, like The Mars Volta for example).
518
Here's a breakdown on dates (not bands/artists, etc considering that at those, I saw 5-12 performers. Which that list of dates includes 10+ events)
1988: 1
1992: 2
1993: 1
1994: 1
397 right now. Ive got 6 more shows up to early October.
I'm right behind you at about 380.
It's funny, I have a great memory, I've had certain really big memory fails when it comes to concerts.  I don't really drink when I go to shows, so I don't know what's the what.  Unless something changed and I didn't realize it.  (I went for years thinking that Page and Plant played Nassau Coliseum and it was actually in another state, New Jersey, at the Brendan Byrne Arena!)
I found my lists from the last few years so I have an accurate count from 2016-now, count is 110.
2016: 22
2017: 32
2018: 39
2019: 17 (so far, another 14 currently on the schedule)
I think it'll be hard to top 2018, for one, my cost of living has gone up, but two, it also takes perfect timing to get so many concerts in, the right bands have to come to town that I want to see and have to be able available to see them.
It does help to live close to so many concert venues so there's almost always something going on, especially now in the summer with all the outdoor shows.
LOL hard to beat 39 in 2018??? If my count was 110 back then, it's definitely doubled. 63 in 2022 was my record. Im Approaching 30 concerts in 2023 already too.
Maybe it’s already been answered, but does playing a show count as seeing a show?
I mean, other that the time you’re on stage, you’re essentially standing Around watching other bands.
I’ve probably see. 75-100 touring bands.
Add in local shows and the numbers probably in the 200 range.
Add in shows I’ve played and it’s probably like 350.
Crazy to think I’ve spent a year of my life watching live music.
Even crazier that I haven’t seen a show since covid :/
I counted festivals as one show per day. So progpower is 4 days, even though I may see 18 bands, I still counted that as 4 concerts.
I did not count shows I've played.
I did not count local bands, bar bands, or local cover bands.
Between the two I think we add about 150, maybe 200.
I only counted national touring acts and their opening acts (which sometimes could be local bands, bar bands, or cover bands) as listed on setlist.fm.  I've seen local Connecticut bands like the Neyba's, Gary Gidman (RIP), Tirebiter, Beyond Purple, and Aquanett like 15 times each.  My friend Jim and I will go out for a beer whenever these bands are playing.  My local bar has bands every Friday and Saturday, so if my stepson and I step out, we'll see a band.
I've saved all my ticket stubs over the years, but I've never counted them. They are in storage somewhere at the moment. I should go find them and see how many I've been to. It's at least several dozen at this point.
Total concerts - 121
Outdoor concerts - 39
Stadium concerts - 3 (Pink Floyd, U2, Taylor Swift - it feels like this number should be a little higher)
Rush is the band I have seen the most at 12 times, with Dream Theater at 9 times and Blue Oyster Cult at 7 times.  I have seen Neal Morse now 9 times, but that was in various incarnations (solo, Neal Morse Band, Transatlantic).
The three members of Rush are the individual musicians I have seen the most at 12 times, with, surprise surprise, Mike Portnoy right behind them at 11 times (5 with Dream Theater, 4 with Neal Morse Band, 2 with Transatlantic).
This is all from setlist.fm, which contains info from ticket stubs (plus the first 5 or so for which I lost the stubs at some point, but which I know with certainty).
- Total concerts:  161
- Artists:  72
- Artist seen the most:  Rush (20x), followed by DT (17x) and Iron Maiden (8x)
- Individual performers:  Lee/Lifeson/Peart (20x), Myung/Petrucci/Labrie (17x), Rudess (12x), Portnoy (11x)
- 21 of the 22 songs I've seen the most are Rush songs, with the other being Pull Me Under (10x).
- Venue at which I've seen the most shows:  Irvine Meadows/Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre (Irvine) (27 shows), followed by Long Beach Arena
  (23 shows).
- Total different venues:  39 (all but two of which have been in California)
- Outdoor shows:  47
- Stadium shows:  3
When I talk to my IRL friends, I could tell them I’ve been to 100 concerts and they will stare at me slack jawed.
I come here, and I’m practically a baby.
According to Concert Archives, my recent trip downtown to see The Cure was officially my 100th concert and it was just two weeks shy of the 39th anniversary of my first. (Weird Al on the In 3-D tour)
This coming Saturday will be my 13th time seeing Dream Theater. Easily beating my 2nd most seen band Rush, whom I’ve seen 8 times.
EDIT - in some ways, I found it a bit amusing that Metallica is #3 with 6 shows…and I haven’t seen them since The Black Album.
Seeing this thread bumped gave me the nudge to finish up the concerts spreadsheet I started a little while back. Counting festivals/cruises as 1 show I've got 138 shows total and counting openers and each separate festival/cruise performance I've seen 136 unique acts performing 270 sets. My top 3, and only bands in the double digits, are Dream Theater (18), Haken (15), and Transatlantic (10).
That makes the most sense to me.
Same thing with Morsefest.  For example, Transatlantic played there two nights last year, and I saw both nights, so that is two concerts, not one.
The bitch is we do not get ticket stubs anymore.  It's just a ticket on your phone, so the days of saving ticket stubs are over.  I guess you could always print out your email confirmation of the ticket purchase and use that as your stub in a collection, but that's just not the same thing.
I miss getting ticket stubs as well. I actually got one this weekend though because they handed out upgrades via physical tickets. That may have been better than the upgrade itself.
There's actually a place where you can input the data, and they'll send you an old-school style ticket stub.  Seems like a cool idea, but I've never done it.
I have a count on my home computer and I think it's somewhere between 70-90.
I had a good stride at various points in time, but at most only saw a handful every year.  I spent a lot of time in the early-mid 00's seeing original, cover and tribute bands in bars with my friends every weekend and skipping a ton of "regular" concerts.  If I added those shows in, I'd be over 200.
I know right? Sucks, but I've done exactly what you said for recent concerts and just printed out a "stub" to keep with the rest of my actual stubs.
most concerts you can still get a ticket stub, but you have to pay extra fees to have it mailed to you or held at Will Call.
Whenever I see this option, it costs like $15 more.  It's just not worth it.  I used to do it back when digital tickets were slowly becoming the norm, so they'd charge a few bucks to get the stub and I'd do that.  These days, only having the physical ticket or it waiting at will call means you have no flexibility if you can't make it these days too.
I don't do this any longer, but when .pdfs of tickets were a thing (and still are for some local stuff that is done on Eventbrite and other platforms), I just printed out the ticket and kept that and put it into a book. Casinos will also give you tickets for free (at least in my experience) at the end of a show. And most casino shows, if you purchase from them and pick up at will call, will have printed tickets.
But yeah, TM and LN - such...ridiculousness.
