This band has been mentioned in the Haken and BTBAM threads, but the debut album is out today!

The band comprises:
Guitar - Rich Henshall (Haken)
Bass - Dan Briggs (Between the Buried and Me, Orbs)
Keys - Pete Jones (my brother and original Haken keyboardist)
Drums - Matt Lynch (Cynic, Trioscapes)
Being related to one of the band members I've obviously been listening for months, but it's awesome to see it finally out and getting really well reviewed pretty much everywhere.
Couple of songs have videos too:
Dancing Machines live studio performance - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwPe5jVYKe4 (probably the most typically "prog" track)
Ripped Apart and Reassembled - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zugwYbg4__c (basically Snarky Puppy with more guitar)

I saw Nick's interview on his website. I will definitely buy this.
Rich, I've got to say meeting Hen was a very cool experiance. He and all of Haken we so down to earth but Rich was so cool to talk to. We talked about life, working part time when not playing in Haken and influences and touring America.
I'm glad to see your brother doing this. From our conversations I thought he left for a full time job.
-
I see that this is on Spotify, so I shall listen to it sometime this weekend.
-
Will give it a listen!
-
I'll check this out for sure! Thanks!
-
Just listened. This new band is awesome
-
I'll add this to the other new (to me) music I've picked up lately, definitely enjoyed both of the songs I heard ahead of time.

Hen is a really awesome guy all round, I'm really glad Pete is working with him again.

Full-time studies. He was only 15 when he first auditioned for Haken, they did the demos together, but by the time Aquarius was coming around he was 18 and decided to move away for university. He's been studying since (currently in the last year of his phD) and starting to get back into music again, which is awesome as he's so damn talented.
-
That is great to here. Thanks Rich! I will purchase the CD!
-
Yeah, we ate with Hen once or twice on the cruise and he and his wife were super nice. Was funny listening to him talk about going from being on tour with Haken to teaching music to little kids :lol
-
This is an intriguing project. Looking forward to hearing it.
-
This is a very interesting album. Very original material from these guys. Highly recommended if you are into prog fusion/jazzy music.
-
Was going to start this thread after work, but Rich beat me to it!
Here is an interview with Richard about the album for anyone interested: https://wpapu.com/interview-richard-henshall-of-nova-collective-and-haken/

Listening to the album right now, it's amazing! I've listened to Dancing Machines A LOT since it was first released, so gladthe whole album is finally out.

I always wondered why he left Haken after recording only the demo. Didn't know you are his brother, that's really cool! Please tell him, if you want, I really enjoy his playing and I'm glad he returned to music after many years of hard study/work, he's insanely talented :metal

I love Matt Lynch's playing. His stuff in Trioscapes is so mind-blowing and I love the way he played on the newest Orbs as well. He's on FIRE, the way he can just go nuts on a really long fill and still have dynamics and groove throughout.
He's an amazing player.

GREAT album!

He's pretty outrageously good. Pete has been really enjoying playing with him, both in Nova Collective on the latest Orbs tour where he joined them as their usual keyboardist was looking after her newborn.
I'll be honest though, I could never get into Trioscapes. Talented playing of course, but the music always just felt too out there for me.

Heard the album and loved it! :metal
-
Didn't know this was a thing till I saw my friend, who's a big BTBAM fan, post about it on Facebook.
Giving it a listen at work. Really digging it so far.
-
Love the album, Richard Henshall is extremely awesome.
-
Picked this up from Amazon, finished my first listen.
This is FANTASTIC music. I like my prog metal, I like my jazz, and I like my fusion. This is a perfect combination. I just really loved it. Perhaps my favorite instrumental album since Liquid Tension Experiment 2.
Rich, your brother sounds great on this. Very tasteful.
Are they planning touring at all?
-
Really glad you're digging it hef!
They definitely want to tour, it's just a case of scheduling.
-
:tup
-
May want to see them if they tour.

I recently stumbled across a young band called Hago that might interest others fans of Nova Collective as well: https://hago.bandcamp.com

Matt Lynch - Nova Collective - Cascades - Drum Playthrough (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjDMMXaNSfA)
So tasty, creative and groovy. Really enjoy Matt's playing.
