Conflicting news on facebook, anyone know?
EDIT: Confirmed, saddest one this year as far as I'm concerned, definitely my favorite Megadeth drummer and one of the most energetic musicians I've ever seen.
-
What? :omg:
-
Okay so I traced it to Mustaine's son fb page (https://www.facebook.com/justis.mustaine)..
-
WTF?!?!?
-
Goddamnit.
-
Oh fuck no.

That's all I can find so far.

From Dave, like right now. There's simply nothing confirmed or anything really.

RIP Nick, holy shit, damn!
-
this year. ffs. RIP Nick.
-
51!? My God that's crazy and scary, good lord.
-
Jesus man. I don't really know the guy, apart from the fact that he was in Megadeth and an overall influential drummer in the thrash metal scene, but what the hell.. 51 is riduculously young as well. From what I'm reading he died on stage even. Perhaps a heart-attack?
Rest in peace, my condolences to him family and friends.
-
Says in that tweet that just before the third song he collapsed, then an ambulance was called but he was pronounced DOA. Must have been cardiac arrest. Shocking.
-
Wow, I'm gutted. One of the first drummers I looked up to, especially on Countdown and RIP. Must be terrifying for the people at The Baked Potato yesterday too, to experience that in real life.
Rest in peace Nick, my condolences go out to all his friends and relatives.
-
My all time favorite drummer before I discovered Dream Theater.
-
This year has been awful so far, but this death is the most devastating to me. I love Megadeth, and their Rust in Peace lineup is by far my favorite. His drumming was fast as lightning but still had a sense of groove and musicality to it that can't be taught. I was holding out hope that we would see a reunion of the classic Megadeth lineup, but sadly they all waited too long and now it will never happen. Rest in Peace Nick. You will definitely be missed.
-
Damn. Rust is one of my favorite albums.
Shitty end to a rough life.
-
Wow. Just wow!
-
Yes, it's true. I'm shocked.
-
This is just insane.
-
On stage even. At least he went out with a bang.
-
That's a shame, but at least he went out doing what he loved. RIP
Also, I think a thread title change is in order since it's no longer in doubt.
-
R.I.P.
-
Yep, this is really unfortunate. He wasn't one of my favorite drummers, but he was a part of my favorite Megadeth line up. Shame so many people have to give up on their fantasies of that line up being reunited.
Rest in peace, Nick Menza.
-
A general comment here... I don't use Twitter, or even really "get" it, and a conversation between people on Twitter trying to figure out if someone died, and then talking about how it happened, just makes me scratch my head a bit.
Anyway, I will definitely play Rust In Peace later today.
-
R.I.P.
Listening to Rust in Peace right now.
-
Rust in Peace is so awesome. Not the remaster - the original! Where the drums actually sound like real drums. Such excellent performances from everyone.

Ditto. Also, wtf, the guy was 51!
RIP :-\

:'(
-
Fuck 2016! I was still hoping for a reunion of the "classic" era Megadeth. One of my favorite drummers. RIP, Bro!

A co-worker and I were just talking about Nick Menza last week. In particular his drum sound, and how it's his favorite along with Vinnie Paul's.
RIP
-
Last night, Dave and the band honored Nick with a moment of silence and then dedicated 'Trust' to him.

That's cool. But...that seems like an odd choice of a song to dedicate to a fallen comrade.

I would've at least picked a song Nick played on.

Trust was off Cryptic Writings - I believe Nick was still with them at that point.
It is a weird choice, but I suppose they were looking for something where the drums were prominent.
-
Didn't he play on that album? But still, unless he had some connection to that song that I am not aware of, it seems like an odd choice, especially lyrically.

That album was Jimmy DeGrasso. It was the first album without Menza.
-
Nick playted on RIP, Cryptic Writings, Youthanasia and Countdown.
Trust is off Cryptic Writings so yes he was with them at that point.
I thought bosk was making the point that the song doesn't really have anything to do with death or anything related, lyrically. So it wouldn't even matter what drummer played on it.

That's what I thought. I knew Jimmy did not come onboard at that point, but cfmoran13 was making me doubt whether it was Nick or if they had a guest drummer do some of the Cryptic Writings tracks.

Well, yes. But not only does it not have to do with death, but it is about being in a relationship that is undermined by lack of trust and by cheating. I'm not sure how you would dedicate that to a deceased bandmate. Unless Nick had some special connection to that song, or was going through relationship issues at the time, or something.
-
Maybe it's because that's how Dave feels about him and Nicks relationship. Made it have a different meaning, because Dave feels bad he never got back to playing with him.
But yeah, that song is drum heavy and seemed like a good choice.
-
Oops. My bad! I forgot that Jimmy came in for the touring of Cryptic Writings but wasn't on the album.
-
No worries. I was just confused.
-
I personally think Trust was already in the set list, and Dave decided to dedicate a song from the already constructed set to Nick. He probably went with it because Nick performed on it and it has a drum intro. And who knows, maybe it was one of Nick's favorites.

Bloody awful.
-
That's sad.
Also, man two drummers dead from heart attack. That makes this even sadder
