I want to know who the f*ck this guy is

I seemed to remember Lifting Shadows mentioned something about this, so I dug it out and had a look. Apparently it's a guy called Steve Burman - a college friend of Amy Guip, who designed the cover.
His name is Robert Paulson.
I remember reading that he was a friend of the photographer that took the photo.
I have it on good authority, it was a guy named Eddie.
Thanks... maybe his name is Steve Eddie Burman
IIRC, MP hated the album cover, but I gotta say, there's a certain charm to it.
I remember having the album in my hand when it came out. The front cover sucked and the band pic on the back was worse. I put it down.
Oh, the band pics were terrible. Even worse is the IAW one in my opinion. JM is taking a dump somewhere in the back, and JLB looks like Fabio.
EDIT: MP is even worse in that pic!

Yeah, they were pretty bad, but by the time I had seen the I&W ones, I had already seen the band and was a fan.
When WDADU, all I had to go on was the pic and I passed.
Is there any sort of symbolism in that cover image? Because I am drawing a blank here. Help please.

If your sexual preference swings a particular way maybe. :neverusethis:
Absolutely awful cover.

It symbolizes a low budget.

I'm with Blob. No charm. Horrible. I&W, on the other hand, I think is excellent. I heard the band first, but if I had seen that in a store, I would have bought it for the cover alone.
Yeah, absolutely.
The name of the band and album (WDADU) made me pick it up in the first place.
Hideous cover. I wonder whose idea it was and who allowed it to be released.

Most likely their Russian manager at the time, Mr. Lackov Money.
:lol
This thread has suddenly become fabulous

This is glorious :rollin :lol
Not sure if its charm or nostalgia, but I'll always be fond of the day I found this CD in an import record store in Boston in September 1994. I didn't have a CD player at the time, so I got to my dorm and transferred it to a blank cassette on my neighbors stereo.
This is perhaps DT's worst album cover along with ADTOE Imo. Pretty hideous execution, but like the symbolism (first slice of DT, being branded by the band to forever be a fan)
Yes the cover was awful. But it was different. Didn't see anything like it in that period of time.
I kind of like the cover for the first album. Got branded myself when I first heard it.
Don't like Images and Words much though. Looks way too digital for me. To harsh on the eyes.

The one issue I have with the IaW cover is that it looks fake. The flooring for instance isn't photographic, nor is the bed. To me, it's like a poor man's impression of Syme artwork (which I think it essentially was). However, the Awake artwork (done by the same artist as IaW) was well done, and remains my favorite DT cover.
Getting back to the topic of the thread, I guess I never gave the cover that much thought when I first bought it, nor did I give it that much thought until other people talked about it. A bit weird, sure. But there's plenty of weird covers out there - far worse than WDaDU.

I'd agree with that. Awake is among my favorites too. Huge improvement over Images.
