ENCHANT – Announce release of new studio album “The Great Divide”; Launch online teaser!
ENCHANT, the Bay Area’s long-running Prog Rock institution founded in 1989, have completed working on their much anticipated comeback release after ten years of silence.
Entitled “The Great Divide”, ENCHANT’s 8th studio album will be released on September 29th, 2014 in Europe and on September 30th, 2014 in North America via the band’s longtime label partner InsideOutMusic.
ENCHANT’s main songwriter and guitarist Douglas A. Ott had the following to say about the upcoming release:
"Well it's finally here folks! There was a time when I was unsure of ENCHANT’s future but fear not!
We've made another album after 10 years and we are very excited and proud of this endeavor!
Our new album is called The Great Divide and we can't wait for you to hear it! 9 brand new ENCHANT tracks, including 1 instrumental. Classic ENCHANT but with a bunch of new twists and turns! Long time in the making but it is surely worth the wait! Coming out late September, so be sure to check it out!"

I haven't listened to them in ages.
A very welcome return to say the least.

Holy hell. I remember hearing bits and pieces of A Blueprint of the World and enjoying it thoroughly, but never really got fully into them. Didn't seem like they were active at all during the time either so I thought they were done.

Definitely gonna check these guys out now that I'm reminded.

So I happened to get Juggling 9 Or Dropping 10 last year through some giant web store sale, but never bothered to listen to it.

With news of the new album, and now that I am familiar with Ted Leonard, I've decided to listen to that album and I am loving it! I've decided to sample the rest of their discography but I've seen prices for the albums on Amazon and eBay and they're mostly hard-to-find or very expensive, except the last 3 albums. I guess I missed the boat with them as their first 3 or 4 albums are pricey.

But I'm sad I've missed out on them until now, but I'm glad I'm getting into them now that they have a new album coming out soon! I need more new music this year since it's been kind of boring for me.

I am one of probably many here who come to this new Enchant album having been introduced to the vocal stylings of Ted Leonard through his magnificent work on Spock's Beard's 11th opus, Brief Nocturnes & Dreamless Sleep.

I got it through the same sale (I assume), along with a bunch of other albums. Something ridiculous like 70% off everything, if I remember correctly. I could use another one of those sales sometime soon  :lol

But yeah, Juggling 9 or Dropping 10 is a great album.

Juggling is no. 2 behind Blueprint for me. Hoping they tour, it would be nice to see them again as a fan instead of the first time I saw them way the heck back on the Blueprint tour when they opened for Marillion.

I'm excited to see some new output from Enchant.  Sure has been long enough.  Though I would really love for Paul Craddick to be playing drums with them again.

But they are all good.
Have you not heard "Break" then?  I like the title track and "My Enemy" but the rest of that album is forgettable.

Break is a great record. "My Enemy" "The Lizard" "King" the title track are some of the best songs in Enchant's catalog.

I am missing Break. I want the special edition with the extra track which is OOP from what I can see.

Also missing one of the others I can't recall.

As good a suggestion as any I guess.

Don't get turned off by Wounded. That was when Magna Carta wanted them and every other band on the label to sound like Dream Theater.

"The Great Divide” will be released in Europe as CD and Digital Download, but also as special edition 2CD Mediabook version containing a bonus track (“Prognosticator”) as well as a ‘best of’ bonus disc (featuring 10 additional songs in 71 minutes of playing time) spanning the complete Enchant catalogue. A Gatefold 2LP version on 180gr. vinyl including the bonus track as well as the full album on a CD as bonus will be made available too.

EDIT:  They're all that good.  Man Sept. 30 is going to be awesome.  This gets released, Evergrey gets released, and I get my first paycheck from my new job.  GLORIOUS.

Excuse me while I kick myself.  I only own J9D10 thanks to Doc in my last roulette.  Excellent album, but I didn't make the plunge into any others.  Just listened to A Blueprint of the World (random choice), and holy shnikee that was a good listen.  My Spidey senses are telling me a complete discography purchase is pending.

Ditto - importing the 2CD mediabook/digibook version from EU is pricey, while the US version on the band's website only cost $10 + shipping. Super cheap! If the bonus disc is just a simple compilation, I'll spring for the US version, even though InsideOut's packaging is usually pretty gorgeous.

I haven't seen the track list for the second disc, but if it is a best of nothing new should be on it.  It is a shame that that is the only way to get the bonus track, because the bonus track is a really sweet instrumental.

I think I've listened to the album 20 times this week and I should have a review written soon.  I don't think anyone will be disappointed in the album.

Purchased from the band's/label's website? The $10 price point was really enticing, so when I get paid next Wednesday I may go ahead and order it. Glad to know the bonus track is on that.

Still haven't heard whether or not the EU version's second disc is a compilation or re-recording.

I bought it from Amazon.

I don't think it's a re-recording to be honest. At the most, it's just a partial remaster to have a constant EQ and volume across the different tracks.

I have never heard of this band.

On one hand, they were pretty much dormant for 10 years. On the other hand, given your location, I'm really surprised you didn't trip over them somehow.

As for the new album, it's not their best, it's not their worst, it's a solid Enchant album. Was surprised after 10 years that it did hold a good bit of the Enchant sound to it. If you went in expecting that because it's been 10 years it better be the greatest thing since sliced bread, then you're probably disappointed. However it's a good rebound album and I'm excited to see them support it next year.

Perhaps my disappointment is because I JUST bought this back catalog a few weeks back, so in listening to everything, The Great Divide doesn't hold up to the others.
Title: Re: New Enchant Album
Post by: gazinwales on October 22, 2014, 12:24:11 AM
Yup agreed it's solid, nowhere a masterpiece, but given the time between albums, it's mildly disappointing.
Ten years is a long time to come up with very strong material and it seems this album might be a stepping stone to the next one being a killer release?

But if you asked me to make a best of Enchant CD, how many songs from this album would I put on it?
One, and it would really be at a push.

Enchant has always been one of those bands for me that I can enjoy all of their albums but none of them really stick out as being better or worse than the others.

I'm sure when I pick up the Great Divide that feeling won't change.

If your disappointment is such that you don't want it anymore, I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands for something you'd be more happy with.
