Title: Luna Park: My box came ripped! Be careful in buying at myplaydirect
Post by: Bootstrap on November 11, 2013, 07:17:37 AM
  Hi!

Last week I  bought the box through the official store (https://www.myplaydirect.com/dream-theater (https://www.myplaydirect.com/dream-theater)) , but the book came completely ripped.

As I realized this problem even before removing the plastic, I decided not to open for easy replacement.

I got in touch with DirectPlay immediately (twitter and email) but even after four days they just did not answer anything.

Now I'm here, with the box in my hands, but I can not open it because I want to replace with a new one.

Is anyone experiencing this problem? Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?

I am very disappointed with the treatment given by DirectPlay. I'm quite desperate to watch this blu ray and because of this ABSURD delay in answering me for something that I'm right I just can not enjoy something that I bought.

Please any suggestion  will be very welcome, because I realized that myplaydirect will simply keep ignoring my emails.

I don't recall reading about anyone else yet with the same issue on the forum, but keep emailing them until they reply! Hopefully it gets sorted out.

It's exactly what I'm doing: writing emails every day.

There is NO reasonable justification to not respond after 4 days.

Is there any way to contact someone from the staff of Dream Theater? They may not know that the huge neglect myplaydirect has with your customers.

Perhaps I've missed something, but is a little rip really that big of a deal?

It's probably best to just stick dealing with myplaydirect.

Perhaps I've missed something, but is a little rip really that big of a deal?

When you've paid for a brand new product (especially a more expensive additional extra like a book that is meant to be looked at, and kept as a collectible item), there's no reason someone should have to put up with something that is damaged.

 What BlobVanDam said is true.

And, unfortunately, it is not only a small tear. This part of the box is very fragile, and any tear makes a huge mess. Believe me, it's a mess that no collector would find insignificant in your collection.

And even if it were a small tear I would complain, after all, paid over 120 USD for full box. I believe I have right to receive the product in perfect condition.

My PLay Directs sucks!!!!!!!!!

I have emailed them 4 times! They don't respond and they don't give a shit! A complete piece of shit business!

I had to buy an extra copy caus I had no clue if mine would come in time for my party. It came the day of so I returned the other to Best Buy.

I wanted to know how to do a return because it says you can. They have not responded for days. They blow!

Did you pay with a credit card because you could dispute the charge.  This being Veteran's Day weekend it might take them a little longer to respond.  Doesn't excuse their negligence but it might explain it a bit.

Nah, Veterans day has nothing to do with it. This company is shit. They have not responded to emails I sent them last Wednesday!

On My PLay Directs's twitter many people are complaining that they simply ignore all emails.

Now with the message from Tick I was even more worried.

Yes, I paid with a credit card and did not know it could open a dispute. I'm very interested in doing this. Can you tell me how should I proceed?

It depends on your card.  Coincidentally I just filed a dispute today with my credit card for a completely different issue.

If you pay your bills online, it will probably just take some searching or typing in the word "dispute" if you have a search function.  On my Chase card there was a pull down menu for options with about 15-20 different options.  One was file a dispute.  In order to do this, you want to make sure you have done everything you should have which it seems like you have done.  You have sent the appropriate emails and should wait 3-5 business days.  On my card I can file a dispute up to 90 days after the fact (the one I filed for was about 70 days ago).

It will then ask you the details of your transaction whether it was a service or for goods and other stuff that it will walk you through.

Of course, you can always just call customer service.

Ehh, I'd be wary of filing a credit dispute over something like this.
While they should have responded to your emails, and while it's not unreasonable for you to ask about a replacement copy, the condition of the item really doesn't look bad enough to dispute a credit charge. Technically, they fulfilled their end of the transaction, so filing such a claim could honestly end up causing more of a headache for you than them.

It's really more of an option for if the item is significantly damaged, if they sent you the wrong thing, or if you never received your order.

As someone who periodically works with chargebacks and related billing issues at my job, I concur with not disputing the charge. It will only complicate the matter more than it needs to be. It should only be used if you did not receive the goods at all.

Ask the money back to the credit card would really be my last - and desperate - attempt. I do not intend to do that.

But the problem is that everything is really shameful. Things are taking a turn where the buyer has to be satisfied with a product ripped.

If one day I decide  sell this box to some other collector I guarantee that I will sell for much less than I paid for this very defect.

Does that seem fair? That is absolutely wrong!

And regardless of anything else, a company does not give satisfaction after more than four days is unacceptable.

And the worst is that this is the official store.

Try to imagine my situation: I paid for the more expensive version (the one that came with poster, keychain and cup). Also, I paid a HUGE tax when the goods arrive in my country.

So after spending a few hundred dollars, you get the box of his beloved band, and just can not open it! Yes, my box still sealed! My box still sealed because I'm wanting to replace it.

In over 16 years of internet shopping is - without doubt - the worst service I've ever had in my entire life. I really hope the band review the partnership with myplaydirect in the very near future.

I get that you're frustrated, but I'm not really sure who you're addressing there.
No one is saying you shouldn't be upset or that you shouldn't try to get a replacement. We were just noting that issuing a credit challenge on a received item would probably go badly for you, and advising against doing so, which you seem to be aware of.

The best thing you can do if they don't get back to you soon is raising awareness of the problem, which you seem to intend on doing. Most companies would rather resolve something quickly than risk a PR issue.

Another question I would ask though; are you sure the scratch didn't happen during shipping? I'm assuming the item came in a shipping box of some kind; what kind of condition was that in when it arrived?

Even if it happened during shipping, it id the seller's responsibility to ship items in a way that will prevent such damage.

Each time I sent an email to MyplayDirect I received an automated response saying that in 24 hours I had a response.

Onef the information that appears in this automatic response is a control number, which is clearly autoincrementing. Samething like "Mydirectplay # xxxx"

Between the first email on the 7th of November and the email I sent today there are over 3400 other emails.

This clearly is not "most companies".  They don't seem to give a damn about PR, therefore money is the only thing that talks.

Bootstrap, contact your credit card company and dispute the charge.  It's not a hassle at all, so I have no idea why people are advising you not to do it.  Tell them that the merchandise was damaged and that they have ignored all of your efforts to contact them, therefore you refuse to pay for it.  If you're in good standing with your credit card company, they'll have no problem with that and reverse the charge.  I've done this before, it was no big deal.  Nobody gets my money and sends me damaged goods.

At that point, MyplayDirect is out the money, and if they want to get paid, they'll have to either fight with the credit card company (which they will lose) or make good on the merchandise.  You'd be amazed at how cooperative they suddenly become when they actually have to earn their money.

 Orbert, thanks for your help.

What really makes me sad is that the only way to successfully call the attention of this company called MyPlayDirect is suspending the payment.

I had never bought anything by that company, but with the stamp of being the official store I trusted 100%.

Seriously, this is shameful. If we were in the early days of internet shopping, maybe I understand this lack of communication. But today, in 2013, is absolutely unacceptable.

I'll wait until the end of the day tomorrow to see if I get any response. If I do not get, I will call my credit card company and see what actions I can take. (such as the purchase is international I do not know if the procedure is more complicated)

Yeah, Norberts right. However, I'd give it a couple of more days. They're now only two (or possibly one) business days into it, so I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they suck so bad that they're just backlogged with issues. I suspect the people advising against involving the CC company are doing so because if MPD responds now then you will have added another complicating element into the mix. However, if it becomes clear they're going to blow you off then by all means take it up with Visa/MC.

I didn't realize that it had only been four days.  Four business days isn't much, but four calendar days including a three-day weekend, is nothing.

Also, that's not a stupid question.  I always forget to check my spam folder, and sometimes there's actual stuff in there.

Exactly!

I feel like everybody advising against you disputing the charge thinks the credit cards will become suspicious of you or something.  Credit Cards can be dicks for sure but if you are in good standing they will bend over backwards for you (well, 80% of the time).  You are obviously in the right here by wanting a replacement.  You ordered a collectors item that is in bad shape.  If I order a some valuable mug and the handle is broken off, sure I can still drink out of it but it aint what I ordered.  You are owed a replacement, bottom line.

Like others have said, give it more time.  That is the crappiest part is that you are doing everything right, even right down to not opening the wrapping, and so you can't listen to it or watch it.  That alone proves that you are not trying to cause trouble.  Even if the credit card rules against your claim it is not like they will send out a fraud alert, warrant for your arrest, or cancel your account.  They will just say, "Sorry dude" and everybody will move on.

Nothing in my spam folder too. 5 days with no response. It's like the company had simply disappeared from the map.

Could someone please do me a favor? Just make any simple question about Luna Park (price, shipping...) in this address and if you receive any feedback, let me know!

Another bad news: The MyPlayDirect twitter account (https://twitter.com/MyPlayDirectCS (https://twitter.com/MyPlayDirectCS))  is without any updates since Nov. 7.

Bad News 2:  I found this site with many people complaining of myplaydirect. Orders that never arrived, emails that were never answered. One person says that your email did not respond even after 15 days.

Shipped late via the shittiest form of shipping in the US (UPS Mail Innovations) for which they charged me as much as 2-day USPS Priority shipping.  I could have gotten it from Amazon for half the price, shipping included, and had it days earlier.  You're much worse off than me, but I'm still counting the days till they respond to my inquiry.

I searched for a phone number or some email and found nothing. The only two ways to get in touch with them is through the form on the site and on twitter. And both are completely ignored.

This morning I've done the standard procedure to do every day: I sent one more email requesting the resolution of my problem (no answer) and left one more message on twitter asking the same thing (also unanswered).

Let's see how long will prolong this ridiculous lack of communication.

Not having received at least one "hey, I saw your email" gives a sense of complete abandonment and being deceived.

130 USD (plus tax, shipping) thrown out the window.

EDIT:  Today there was at least one new fact: the automated response email  no more says  than in 24 hours someone will answer. Now says:

 Hello,

Quote
Thanks for your email. This is an automated response confirming that we have received your inquiry.

We're currently experiencing an unusually high volume of emails and unfortunately it may take us several days to respond to your email. We're adding additional staff and are working around the clock to answer all emails in the order they were received. We're very sorry for the wait and apologize for the inconvenience.

My issue has been put to bed. I returned the Best Buy copy which was pristine condition and held on to my slightly damaged over priced copy from My Play Direct. The cover is kind of wavy like it was wet or something. Not bad like yours Bootstrap.

Anyway, I am still following this cause I want to see what resolution you all get.
I inquired a week ago how I can do a return which they say you can, and still they have not responded!

I also tried to find other ways to contact this shit company, but you just can't! I don't know if Dream Theater is aware of how bad these pieces of shit are but it really is a bad reflection on them. At least that's how I feel.

I paid 25 bucks and waited way to long for something I could have gotten for 8 bucks less in great shape with no hassles.

I actually did get a response to one of my 4 emails sent. That one pertained to when my copy would arrive. I got a bullshit generic response. The other 3 pertained to getting a return number and procedure. The crickets are still chirping as I wait for a response to any of those.

Something like this is a collector's item, and suppose to always be kept in pristine condition. Frankly any damage to this set on arrival should result in an immediate replacement.

 Exact.

A damaged item like this for a collector loses the value. Here in the forum we have perhaps the biggest Dream Theater collectors in the world.  Ask any of them if the damage in my book-box is something small or big.

And my prejudice goes beyond money: I'm missing the chance to see / hear the band I like, after all, I did not open the box until today because I requested a replacement. Imagine how difficult it is to a hardcore fan  take that kind of attitude. It also has a value... a big value.

In a world where piracy is growing, I think it's fair to buy the collector's edition because I think it's fair to financially support the band that I love so much.

This MyDirectPlay is a real catastrophe. Dream Theater does not deserve a store selling their stuff so bad. And their fans do not deserve to have to deal with it.

Exactly.  Otherwise if it's not even worth paying full price for it.   It's like ordering a meal only to find the chef took a couple of bites out of it, but still expects you to eat it and pay for it.

Adding to that analogy, even finding just one strain of hair, that is not yours, on the plate of your meal could be deemed unacceptable and that either the consumer would demand to get the proper replacement or not pay at all or, in this case, get a refund.

As for the main story, that really sucks, Bootstrap, that you got to go through all of this trouble only to possibly receive your money back but have no dvd, or get a replacement of something that shouldn't have been damaged in the 1st place.

130 USD (plus tax, shipping) thrown out the window.

Come on dude, isn't that somewhat pushing it? I mean, in the end the side of the box is dinged. I would hardly call that the whole thing as being worthless.

Something like this is a collector's item, and suppose to always be kept in pristine condition. Frankly any damage to this set on arrival should result in an immediate replacement.
Absolutely!
If the shipping box is completely undamaged that means My Suck Direct intentionally put a beat up copy in the box and shipped. This company is deplorable. 130 dollars of hard earned money deserves much better than that!

Don't take this as a lack of sympathy for bootstrap, but things advertised as "collectors editions" rarely  gain or hold even hold value.

That said, it sucka you gotta go through this bootstrap. The above is no excuse to accept a damaged item.

Another day sending my email to MyPlayDirect.

Now comes a new email option called "damaged item - packaging not damaged - damaged product." Maybe they're getting so many complaints about it they decided to put that option.

On twitter DirectPlay have started to appear several complaints from people who bought products from other artists and not received or received defective products.

But in the end everything remains the same: no response at all.

That new option is interesting.  If the packaging is not damaged but the item is, then they knowingly sent you a damaged item, which is bad enough.  But it's happened so many times that they made it its own option, which is just pathetic.

It only took a few damaged items for me to stop pre-ordering stuff from these indie record companies. Awhile ago, I bought the new Dear Hunter vinyl, and it came warped. Not only did the company not resolve my problem, but they also asked for a $4 "restocking fee" if I was going to return it. Pathetic.

These days, I just get things at retailers or on Amazon. Sometimes Amazon don't have special items that bands release through these other stores, but at least they're good for it, if your item arrives in poor condition.

After 8 days is already clear that they are simply running away and never will answer anyone. It is evident that no serious company in the whole world needs all this time to answer an email.

Perhaps the company has gone bankrupt ... I really do not know.

Give um time and it will be a reality. This company blows! 8 days with no response to my emails asking how to make a return. It fucking blows that you absolutely have no shot at talking to a live person.

To add insult to injury, when you take the customer service survey it asks if you service attendant was helpful in resolving your problem. Really? What service attendant!

This is my first time reading this thread.  I feel your frustration.  That's bull that there's no phone.  I took the address printed on your delivery box, which if my eyes are good said: "468 McNally Dr., Nashville, TN."  I plugged that address into google and a few different numbers came up.  I would try calling them and seeing if whoever answers can pass you along to someone helpful.  These are the numbers that came up for that address:

1) Provident Music Distribution - (615) 261-6325 or (615) 832-8988 or (615) 261-6500
2) Benson Music Group - (615) 742-6800
3) Alexandria House - (615) 831-0180

I think that's partially the basis for my above comment. I mean, yes, it's a "collector's edition" and thus should be pristine, and yes, also held to higher standards than a regular CD for example. That said, the comment I was reacting to is the "$130 out of the window" part. Let's presume for a second that myplaydirect continues to play dumb and Bootstrap never gets a replacement. He still has the LPs, USB sticks, CDs etc. That's at least $70 worth of stuff.

When looking into other complaints against these guys, I read from somebody who had a similar experience and disputed the charge with his CC company. They were happy to oblige, but MPD recharged his card almost immediately. I'm not suggesting not to dispute the charge, I still would. I am suggesting that you pay close attention to what happens afterward.

I understand your thinking, but what I said was just a figure of speech.

But the key point is that, regardless of the value that the box still has it or not, I just can not use it because I'm keeping sealed since the day I got just to be able to make the replacement. So, until the day MyPlayDirect decides to take some action, I'm losing 100% of my product.

I'd love to find a number  to call them. I've searched a lot and found nothing. Even the numbers posted here on the topic unfortunately say they can not help at all.

I also sent some tweets to Dream Theater's twitter asking for some help, but got no answer.

I have also tried to contact Sony, who apparently owns the MyPlyDirect, but - again - got no answer.

So, all I can do now is send emails and post here in this topic to complain...

No Bootstrap, I actually kept it to make life easy and returned the Best Buy copy. I don't trust this company enough to try and do a return with them. It could take months to be refunded if at all. I got the 17 bucks I paid for my second copy at Best Buy, and I kept my less than pristine condition 25 dollar copy I got from,  My bowel movement direct.

This is funny. So, due to the massive amounts of emails, which most costumers sent a fuck load of I'm guessing, they can't respond as quickly, right? Would they have responded quicker if the customers hadn't sent more than 1 email?

It sucks your copy arrived damaged, but they apparently are a big distribution if they have automated bull system.
Well I'd be willing to bet Bootstrap gave them ample time to respond to the first one. They say in the automated response they will respond in most cases within 24 hours. Well that becomes 4 days its more than a little frustrating. There suckiness created there own bed. They suck.

I understand your argument, Ben_Jamin.  And trust me:  In the first 8 emails I respected the deadline that they determine. (24 hours).

But from the moment that you realize that the company is not giving a damn about you, is natural that this happens: an avalanche of e-mails.

And everything indicates that if I remain just waiting and not keep pushing they will simply ignore me forever.

How long has it been since you first emailed them?  2 weeks?  At this point, i would dispute the charge

Good point. Its hard to argue against it at this point since he has damaged goods and wants to return it. They won't respond. What else should you do, accept it and take it up the poop shoot?

At this point, best case scenario is you dispute it, the credit card company refunds your money and you get to keep the damaged inferior product.

Several teenagers are freaking out on twitter because MyPlayDirect is not delivering a kind of invitation to a meeting between fans and a singer that will be next week. The number of tweets against MyPlayDirect substantially increase these days.

Still nothing???

No answer until today, 16 days after receiving the product. By the amount of claims against the company on twitter, MyDirectPlay must be a complete mess.

As I have lost all hope of a contact, yesterday I got in touch with the company of my credit card and asked what were the steps to recover my money.  They were very helpful and gave me all the instructions.

The same night I joined all email I sent to MyDirectPlay, all attempts to contact for twitter (53 attempts). I demonstrated that even my desire to send the product back to them was being frustrated by them, since they do not respond to me what address should I send and wich is the RMA number.

Next week the credit card company will contact me and let me know the next steps.

Any news I come back here to update.

After 21 days I finally received this response that the Tick posted above.

Today it was confirmed that the new book was sent. The deadline that passed me going until the 26th of December. Let's see if it will be all right this time.

Once I get it I come back with the news.

I am very pleased with the attention that many have given me here. Thank you very much.

And thank you especially to Tick, for helping me a lot for sending emails to MyPlayDirect. I have no doubt that this was decisive!

Still haven't received my LALP. It was shipped in 8th of november from States (I live in Finland). it was a little surprice because Dream Theater -album was shipped from Europe and it came the same it was published. I decided to wait... Estimated Delivery: November 18, 2013 to December 2, 2013.

My patience is at the end of the line. Gonna get the bluray from store and return the shipped one. Can't wait no longer! :)

Damn! F**ing ridiculous! At this point maybe they'll sent you the BluRay from the next tour as a bonus for waiting so long! It will probably be out by then!

To all friends who accompany my long journey to get the replace of my Luna Park box:

I still have NOT received the box that MyPlayDirect promised to send me.

As saw in previous posts, on November 28 MyPlayDirect sent an email saying "you deserve much of our apology" and on December 2 (finally!) I received confirmation that a new box had been sent and that the delivery time was between December 12 and December 26.

But unfortunately as I've imagined, so far I have not received anything.

Worse, the credit card company DENIED the dispute by amount paid. At first, the credit card company returned the money as soon as I made the complaint. But now, on the current bill, a new charge was taken on behalf of the MyPlayDirect Inc.

2 months and 3 days waiting for a solution. 2 months begging for something that should be my right.

Seriously, I've never felt so mistreated by a company in my whole life. I really very sorry that the band that I love  have done business with this MyPlayDirect.

So wait, you got your money back for the first box set but were charged for the second?  Assuming you get the second one in perfect condition, that is fair (although you should be credited some cash on top of that).  Think of it this way, you can sell the one you currently have at a big discount...maybe 30 or 40 bucks, to someone on ebay or amazon that dont care as much about the rip.  That way its like you got your discount afterall.  Still sucks how they treated you.

If they charged you twice, make sure you are credited for one of those.

This week, finally received the box I requested in November 2013, replacing my defective box that I received.

This time, the MyDirectPlay is only partially guilty by this huge delay. I requested to return in early November and only made MyPlayDirect shipping in early December. This was the MyDirectPlay part of the delay.

But the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service took forever to release the package. I honestly just thought I'd never get it.

Anyway, I wanted to leave here recorded that I finally received =)

I'd agree that Dream Theater should avoid doing any business with MyBoneYourAssPlayDirect in the future.
