In loving memory of those two threads, I would like to open a third, since the new album was just released!
I absolutely LOVED the creativity and ideas put into those two threads, creativity I would love to see again!

I believe he said so in his second sentence ;D
I do think it's fun and interesting to see what people can come up with, it gives a cool perspective on things.

Great! Love the song names. They sound very DT-esque. They remind me of a mix of JP solo album song titles with DT song titles.
I like the weather-related concept too...JR would have a field day with environmental patches with this idea!
The Sky Suspended sounds like it would be my fav on the album.

The Sky Suspended is actually the name of one of the last chapters in Watership Down, my favorite book.

This Would Be A heavy, But also very melodic album. A bit like Tot, SC and IaW thrown together. I will Also make song descriptions now, enjoy :tup
1. What Will You Leave Behind (Part 1): Super heavy and fast opener. Crazy riffing from Petrucci and John Lord type organs from Rudess. James comes in only towards the end of the song. Song ends in a soft note, foreshadowing the second part of the song.
2. The Bridges We Once Burned: Wither-like Ballad Featuring MP in guest vocals.
3. The Colors Of Future: A bit like Constant Motion and Honor Thy Father combined. Little bit of a djenty feel to this song. The heaviest DT-song ever!
4. Into The Bottom Sand: A melancholic ballad. A bit like Eve, Hollow Years and Repentance Thrown together.
5. A Clockwork Cataclysm: Fast and technical song, A bit like Panic Attack.
6. The Fortress: Straightforward/Poppy metal song, in the vein of Forsaken.
7. Lost In A Distant Horizon: An interesting song. Petrucci stays in the backround during this song, while Rudess drives the song forward. Lots of piano and synths!
8. Paradox: Short and fast instrumental. A bit like Acid Rain (Liquid Tension Experiment).
9. Distant Utopia: Into the title track we go!. Like the rest of the album, Heavy but super melodic. Throw The Glass Prison and Octavarium together and you are pretty close.
10. What Will You Leave Behind (Part 2): The epic finale! Recurring themes from part one, but the song sounds quite different. This is a LOT more melodic than Part one. It has the Vintage-DT feel to it, a bit like ACOS. It still has the melancholic vocals by James like in Part one. However, song ends after a beautiful guitar/synth Unison by Petrucci and Rudess.
Phew!! Hope you have as much fun reading this, as i had doing it. :metal :tup

7. Globes of Light (7:31)
8. Clouds Above the Castle (20:32)
5-7 are part of a concept suite
-
There can't be enough of this type of thread. Really fascinating to see what people come up with in their imaginations. And the funny ones, of course!
-
I really only see the funny ones.
-
People should make these albums, not as DT albums but as their own. Some of the album titles and song names are really cool.
Honestly, this sounds like a killer album:

Why not just one big song:
Album name: Into the Deep Space
Song name: Into the Deep Space (76:34)
I. Blackness (instrumental)
II. Fleeting Spheres
III. The Beauty of Greater Creations
IV. Unbelievable Forces
V. We are not alone
VI. Darkest Star
VII. Eve (instrumental?)*
VIII. Omniscience
IX. The End of Universe
* Well, I know this may be polemic (will it be?).. I just think it would be surprisingly nice if they decided to do a re-version of this theme so loved for many of us (with MM and even JLB collaboration, perhaps with lyrics as well).. The only antecedent I know about this kind of decision is from an Argentinian band called "Los Redondos", with their song "Mariposa Pontiac/Rock del País".. And I think Megadeth did it too... I'm not sure about that.. Anyway, IMO, that would be just pretty damn gorgeous...
PD: A tracklist really easy to remember btw... Just one song.. Though there will be the ones who'll considerer the parts as songs itself, like SDOIT.. But they are not...
PD2: Beyond this experimental concept album (maybe some Planet X sound-ish), I ask for a ten song album.. Could it be they haven't had one yet, when it's almost the most common quantity of tracks within an album? Just saying, I know they're not a "common" band, but, c'mon...
PD3: Yeah, I was a little bit inspired by the DT12 front artwork... And even contemplate the part name "Planet DT" or something like that, but I decided to pondered the end of universe rather than to mention the band name on a concept album.. 'Cause yeah, this would be a concept album, I almost forget to say that...

I'm no good at coming up with song names, but I always enjoy track lengths and the flow/musical concept of an album.
Let's see...
Dream Theater 13
Disc One - 42:43
1 - 13:26 - Epic, progressive, heavy piece to start off the album. A suite of sorts - something like TGP
i. Overture 0:00 - 3:32
ii. Verses 3:33 - 7:16
iii. Bridge Verses 7:17 - 9:49
iv. Sick instrumental sec. 9:50 - 13:26
2 - 5:14 - Ballad, quiet and less grandiose than usual DT ballads though
3 - 7:08 - Heavy rocker, more in the vein of "6:00" as opposed to, say, "The Mirror"
4 - 6:37 - Dark heavy song, like Fatal Tragedy
5 - 10:18 - Nice progressive emotional track to finish the first disk, something like BTL or TGD
Disc Two - 36:31
6 - 5:52 - Short but dramatic opener for the second disk, the "shit gets real" song, leads straight into...
7 - 6:13 - follow up to the preceding track, sort of like The Mirror -> Lie. Progressive song, maybe like Surrender To Reason
8 - 5:02 - quiet yet serious ballad, something like Lifting Shadows + Solitary Shell. ending note leads into...
9 - 19:24 - the climax of the album, the "epic", the payoff. Multi-parted progressive epic in the vein of DT's usual longer pieces - Rough Timestamps:
i. Intro 0:00 - 2:00
ii. Verses 2:00 - 6:00
iii. Build up verse/bridge 6:00 - 8:00
iv. sick instrumental sec.2 8:00 - 13:00
v. break - verse/bridge 13:00 - 15:00
vi. quiet pretty part 15:00 - 16:00
vii. reprise/grand finale 16:00 - 19:24
Tracks - 9
Total length - 79:19

Dream Theater-Outside Echoes
1)Crime and Punishment and Afterwards (9:03) (Stream of Consciousness-like riff based Instrumental)
2)An Old Friend's Funeral (5:47) (Starting of as a soft ballad, then turning into a heavy metal song concluding with a fast guitar-keyboard unison)
3)In Through the Out Door (12:34) (Heavy Rock song, referencing Led Zeppelin songs,a little Lines in the Sand vibrations, with a Jimmy Page influenced guitar solo)
4)A Deadly Rendez-Vous (6:22) (Probably a shallow metal song that every fan will hate except one man who also a fan of Dark Eternal Night)
5)To Kill A Rockingbird (8:17) (It's my band's name,i just wanted to use it :) )
6)Torment (4:56) (Wither Part 2)
7)The Will and The Reason (13:45) (Proggy song, lyrics by Myung, every fan will love it,a bass solo and a long insturamental section with Rush and ELP influences)
8)Outside Echoes (20:36) (Epic with rather slow and emotional melodies than other epics of DT,an orchestral section in the beginning and a long SCO,Bigger Picture like guitar solo as an outro)

Dream Theater - Symmetry and Balance
Disc One: (52:10)
1. Inertia (6:23)
2. Transgression (15:02)
3. False Reflection (4:29)
4. Cynicism (7:52)

Disc Two: (53:52)

4. The Shadows of Truth (4:56)
5. Evolution (18:32)
6. Momentum (7:07)
Total: 106:02
The way this album is balanced (in a very nuggety way) is that the track lengths can be reversed on each disc and it will give a very similar pattern. The discs are also mirror images of each other with track names; they are mirror images of each other AND exact copies in terms of track length patterns. Mind blown.

Damn!
Making these fake DT- albums is so much fun! I'm making another one soon!
-
I remember having a discussion with someone in DTF about themes on future DT- albums. He said it would be cool to see a concept about a horror- story. That inspired me a little bit. This won't be a full on concept, but this will have some such themes. I also like their heavy stuff so, what about a dark and heavy album with some themes from horror stories?
So here we go!
Dream Theater - A False Paradise
1. Elysium(Intro) 2:12
2. Eyes In The Dark 7:17
3. Wake Up Inside 6:21
4. Dark Iconoclast 6:57
5. The Paradise We Once Knew 6:10
6. Calm Before The Storm 12:03
7. Serpent Eyes 5:48
8. Inhumanity 7:30
9. In The Distance 4:10
10. Years Of The Pouring Rain 18:15
1. Elysium: Instrumental intro. Begins with a uplifting tone, but slowly turns dark and menacing. Intro leads straight into Eyes In The Dark.
2. Eyes In The Dark: Dark and heavy song. Takes of slow and speeds up into a mid tempo song. A bit like As I Am.
3. Wake Up Inside : Faster and more uplifting than Eyes In The Dark. Still a heavy song though.
4. Dark Iconoclast: The Heaviest song in the album! Some crazy instrumentation in this one!
5. The Paradise We Once Knew: After the relentless beginning of the album, a nice ballad would be great here? Beautiful uplifting piano by Jordan, and a killer riff by John in the chorus!
6. Calm Before The Storm: A mini epic of sort. Like Blind Faith or The Endless Sacrifice.
7. Serpent Eyes: A bit of a Symphony X feel to this song. Heavy and fast paced.
8. Inhumanity : Heavy and technical song. Has that dark and scary vibe like most of the other songs in the album.
9. In The Distance: The second ballad of the album. A little slower and darker.
10. Years Of The Pouring Rain: The Epic Prog song of the album! Has the same feel as Trail Of Tears. A little less heavy than the rest of the album.
I had so much fun once again! Might even use some of these ideas in my next band- project. ;)
