Coming soon, as per Tony:
https://www.forbassplayersonly.com/Interviews/Tony-Levin.html
(Just posted this link in another thread, and realized it probably deserves its own....)
-
:dangerwillrobinson:
This could be freaking awesome!
-
:metal :metal :metal
-
HOLY FUCK!
Must buy. Must must must buy.
-
GET IT IN MY EARS THIS MOMENT OR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Either will do, as long as it gets there.
-
That definitely sounds like a good combination. Can't wait to see what they come up with.
-
TOUR PLEASE!!!!
-
YEAH! :metal
-
LIQUID MARCO EXPERIMEENT - JP :metal
-
Looking forward to this! Thanks for the heads up. :tup
-
The sample tune is awesome! :tup And video is cool.

That sample tune... :omg: :omg: :omg: :omg: :omg: :omg:
-
Sounds great, can't wait to hear this!
-
:omg:
Speechless....

PRE-ORDERED!
Didn't even have to think twice, or listen to the samples...which I am about to do. These three guys are sure to produce amazing music together! Here's to hoping I get a signed copy!

I don't need no stinking samples!
I'm cracking this open as soon as it arrives on my doorstep.
-
didnt even listen, pre ordered \m/
-
Preordered the hell out of it.
-
Same here. I really wanna see them rocking the stage! Three of my fav musicians and I absolutely adore Minnemann.
-
What a great combination of genius, very exciting!
I'll probably end up preordering that one.
Greetings...
Nef

So let me get this straight, they are selling a typical CD+bonus DVD package for $30, and that doesn't even include shipping? Even signed that's quite extreme. I know I would probably like this, and will listen to the samples when I get home, but I doubt I will like it as much as the 2-3 albums I could buy with that same money.

Cost me $48AUD all up and I'm totally happy with it. A basic new release would be $20-25 here anyway and it being signed definitely has an advantage because I doubt they'll ever be over here on tour!
-
This sounds good. I'm not familiar with Minnemann, but Levin of course has played with everyone, and I'm pretty sure I've heard of that Rudess guy.
-
Preordered
-
Sounds good, but I don't really need to pay that much for a deluxe edition so I'll wait.
Bob, Minnemann is badass! He's done a ton of stuff, but I mostly know him from his recent work with Steven Wilson (and the fact that he auditioned for DT- kinda glad that didn't happen).
-
Wow, what a surprise! I'll check this out for sure.
-
Wow, nice lineup. No guitar though? I'm curious to hear a full song.
-

Marco's playing guitar, I believe.
-
Oh interesting! :metal
Who edited that video? :lol
-
The best part of the video for me, hands down, is the "bald head exchange" at 04:04...
-
Oh snap. Just read that comment that Marco plays guitar. I hate to sound stereotypical, but if there is indeed guitar tracks on this record....Automatically count me in. Damn son. Can't go to the website while at work but I'm going to definitely check it when I get home!
-

The first time I heard his name was when he was among those auditioning for Dream Theater. Since then, it seems to come up more often, so it's possible that I just never knew his name, despite being exposed to his previous work.
Looking at his Wiki page, that would seem to be the case. UZ and UKZ, Steven Wilson, Adrian Belew... I just never knew the name.
-
I preordered yesterday when someone posted the link. As others have said, I didn't even need to hear any samples because it was a must buy. Hopefully I get a signed copy.
I have to admit, I actually more interested in this release than DT12 purely based on the fact that I think it will be 10 times more creative. If only they could have gotten JP to play guitars ; (
-
This is going to be incredible! I'll likely end up enjoying it more than the new DT. It's interesting to see that Marco is playing guitars on this.
-
Wow, nice lineup. No guitar though? I'm curious to hear a full song.

Yeah but I think I'd be more interested if there was a real guitarist.
-
Looks really cool, but as has been pointed out before, that's a very steep asking price. I'll wait until it cools down and I can buy it for the price of a "normal" CD.
-

Not sure if $30 is steep for a DVD and CD combo? Most music DVD's are between $15-20 these days and a CD between $8-$15. Sure its on the high end of that scale but I don't think it's THAT bad.
-
Can someone tell me what is on that bonus DVD, as I can't view the page at work?
Kinda surprised people are complaining about $30+shipping/tax, for a CD and DVD that potentially could be signed by them?? if I read things right in this thread?
-

That's right
The DVD contains:
- 24 bit wav files
- Exclusive Bonus Track
- Video of Tony & Jordan jamming in studio
- Marco interview
- Tony & Jordan interview
- Outtakes/Additional Footage
- Early home demo mixes by Marco
The First 1,000 Units Signed
By Tony, Marco & Jordan

That sounds absolutely awesome! As someone said, with most music DVD's priced at $20 (whether or not they have any real bonus behind-scenes type stuff), and new albums priced around $15, I'd call this at the very least a decent price for such a bundle. For me personally, that's a steal!
-
I see your point, but I guess it would be nice to have an option to get a non-deluxe version of it too. ;) What with new DT, new Haken, and many other things, I can't afford to buy the special edition of EVERY new release.
-
A friend just posted this, a medley of samples from the album...
https://soundcloud.com/lazy-bones-recordings/medley-of-some-of-tonys/s-3ZqE6 (https://soundcloud.com/lazy-bones-recordings/medley-of-some-of-tonys/s-3ZqE6)
-
Great medley, further increasing the likelihood of me preordering.
Yeah but I think I'd be more interested if there was a real guitarist.
I've seen a few videos with Marco on guitars, don't worry, he's good at that too.
Greetings...

I couldn´t resist this one, just placed an order!
About Minneman on guitars, I´ve never heard him play, but assume he´ll do a good job here. But I do think that not having a guitarrist is a missed opportunity to attract even more attention to this project. Think about the possibilities! What if they had Eric Johnson, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai, Greg Howe, Vinnie Moore or someone reasonably known in the prog/rock world? And if they plan to tour, they´ll have to hire a guitar player anyway, right?

Minnemann is minimalistic (minnemannistic) with his guitars. Not crap and simple but not complicated and over the top. Think of a less talented Fripp. Actually, not at all like Fripp in terms of skill but definitely in style and rhythm.

Sounds promising! :tup

I don't see why guitars are required. Emerson Lake & Palmer made a ton of great music with just keyboards, bass and drums. Lake played some guitar here and there for contrasting texture; it sounds like Minnemann may be doing the same.
If anything, I often find it more interesting when bands rock out without guitars, not just because I'm a keyboard player, but because it's different. Maybe the point is that they wanted to do something different, and with Jordan on keys, you don't really need a guitarist. He has plenty of different sounds and obviously has the chops. Let's see what he can do. Rudess-Morgenstein is some cool stuff, and that's just keys and percussion.
-
Orbert basically just wrote the post I was planning to do. I highly doubt this album will suffer from not having a proper guitarist, I doubt these guys write very guitar orientated music.
And yeah, I pre-ordered it. This is like an early Christmas for me, I'm really looking forward to both this and the new DT album.
-
I don't see why guitars are required. Emerson Lake & Palmer made a ton of great music with just keyboards, bass and drums.
This exactly. They've got the high end covered anyway if Levin uses his stick in its full range.
-
Whoa, I somehow wasn't even thinking of Tony using the Stick. I was just thinking bass. If there's Stick (which I'm sure there is), then they definitely don't need a guitarist.
-
The only reason I mentioned that I prefer having guitar is because I have Liquid Trio Experiment, which is Rudess and Levin, and the lack of Petrucci on that just made it seem...empty. But, that was a different project, and I know these three guys are retardedly talented so I'm sure I'll like it :)
-
That's a fair point. I was a bit disappointed with Liquid Trio Experiment as well. I'd expected the three of them to do some more interesting stuff, perhaps take full advantage of the fact that JP wasn't there, but it instead kinda felt like three guys trying to do something while missing 1/4 of the band. But they didn't really have a lot of time to prepare material strictly for that format. Levin Minnemann Rudess have chosen this lineup, so it should be pretty impressive.

Agreed. I'm definitely looking forward to all the wonderful music I'm getting from so many groups this fall :)

Agreed.
In addition to bass and stick, Levin is credited with cello too, which makes this even more interesting!
-
I have the King Crimson DVD Deja VROOOM, and Tony plays some upright bass on it, using a bow. That made it all the more frustrating when he didn't play cello or upright bass in "Red". He just played electric bass.
-
Just got confirmation I'll be receiving a signed copy. WOOHOO.
-
I just had a progasm. This sounds amazing!
-
The music video is seriously hilarious! I would pre-order this, but I don't have a credit card.. :(
Also, here's the music video. It's on the website, but I didn't see a direct link in this thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I38N8XHJg8U#at=67
-
Just got confirmation I'll be receiving a signed copy. WOOHOO.
WHAT. I want!! I'm afraid I might not be getting a signed copy because it took me so long to preorder :(
-
A signed copy coming for me too. I wouldn't say I'm more excited about this than the new Dream Theater album, but nevertheless September is going to be a spectacular month. :hefdaddy
-
Just got confirmation I'll be receiving a signed copy. WOOHOO.
Ditto! So excited to get this album!

Signed copy here too :metal

Every time I've tried to get on the site, I get nothing but a white page. ???
Thankfully, Elite shared that video, so now I've heard that awesome song! And that video... :lol

Make sure it didn't go to your junk email because mine did.

Omg! :D I didn't even think to look there cause I was like "Well this is a music album from a record company, official email business, couldn't be in my junk folder hur-de-dur." It was totally there! I get a signed copy yayyyyyyyyyy :rollin :tup

I think I ordered on Tuesday and got the email this morning thanking me for ordering and mentioning I was getting a signed copy.
-
Oh wow, my email actually arrived in my junk folder last night at 11 something pm (California time)
-
I guess I should consider this a reminder to check my email......
-
Man, I hope less than one thousand people have preordered... I won't to be able to order until tomorrow at the earliest...

They don't take the money until just before the ship date if that helps? They just do a visa check to make sure you have it.

I got the singled copy email last night. :2metal:

This. I just got a white screen, then it would stop loading. Figured I was the only one.
I checked out the video from the direct video link, and really dug the music. I definitely want to hear more. The video was awesomely random.
-
I am really loving this song (does it have a name?) I feel almost guilty, I am listening to this song more often than I listen to The Enemy Inside, although part of that so not to burn out on TEI prior to 9/24.
I was considering ordering the CD/DVD, but I kinda feel like I'd be out of luck to get a signed copy at this point.
-
I preordered the CD/DVD, can someone who received confirmation that they got a signed copy tell me when and how they received said confirmation? I got the email confirming the purchase, but it didn't say anything about signed or unsigned.
-

I placed my order on the 5th and got an immediate confirmation from orders@ccnow.com. I then got an email from Scott Schorr (scott@lazybones.com) on the 7th stating that I would receive the signed version. This 2nd email was allocated to my junk mail for some reason.

I got my email yesterday btw.
-
I didn't know what to expect, then I listened to the snippets track on the site.
Yeah... I think I'll be buying this.
-
Signed copy awaits.
Hopefully there is a tour forthcoming...
-
Just heard there's only 100 copies left of the signed special edition!
If you haven't gotten one yet, grab it now! This is a CD you will WANT to have!
-
Preordered it this morning :)
-
Hey Everyone. Scott Schorr here from Lazy Bones Recordings, producer of Levin Minnemann Rudess. Very grateful for your support of this pretty killer new album. We have about 25 signed Deluxe Edition CD & DVD copies remaining (out of 1,000). You can order @ levinminnemannrudess.com The regular CD goes on sale Sept. 5. Anyways, thanks again for hopefully supporting this album & indie music (we are proud to say Lazy Bones has never had any affiliation, whatsoever w. a "major anything - label, publishing, pr, lame "A&R", etc.) We had an incredible time making this record while also trying to maintain a sense of humor! Speaking of which, our twisted video also seems to have received a decent response.
SINCERE THANKS AGAIN & please help spread the word! ;D
Shameless plug: You may also want to check out the last trio project: Levin Torn White (.com)
-
Scott,
Welcome aboard! Glad to hear you seem to be burning through the presales quickly. :) I can't wait for mine to arrive.

Hey Scott!! Definitely looking forward to the release of this! Always glad to support indie releases :) That video was awesome, too!
-
I have to admit, I just used the video as background music to me preordering the album. It sounded insane and good.
-
Thanks again! It's because of cool people like you with great taste in music that makes these projects possible. Seriously...
Best,
Scott
-
Scott,
I'm really looking forward to this and thank you for all the work you've done to make it possible. I haven't listened to Levin Torn White yet, but I've heard a lot of good things about it. I'm sure this trio project will be outstanding!
-
Just got the email confirming I got a signed copy :metal
-
I haven't seen or heard a note of this.
It just comes down to trusting the people involved and knowing what they are about. Not something you can apply on a regular basis.
-
That promo video was progasmic though, awesome on so many levels.

Welcome Scott! Regarding the bolded part in the quote, that means that I have a signed one, right? I preordered a few hours before you posted that. Haven't received an email stating that though, but whatever. I'll just cheer now! Woohooo! :panicattack:

If you ordered the Levin Minnemann Rudess Deluxe Edition CD/DVD before today (AUG. 13), your copy will be signed by all the guys. But, as of today (1pm - US West Coast) WE HAVE SOLD OUT of the autographed copies. You guys are awesome - sincere thanks for supporting this.
We still have unsigned Deluxe Editions available. They're pretty cool - I think you'll be into the DVD footage.
Best,
Scott @ Lazy Bones Recordings ;D ;D ;D

I btw have an email where they promised me to not use the video if I don't want to. Well, they lied:-). But thanks for your kind words.
For the entire filming I received $500, broken promises about the release and collaborations on my new CD. And someone calling me and complaining he heard I was telling people in advance who the new drummer is. And on top of it I never got even send a copy. So FU DT, I'm sorry:-)
https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=29908.0
-
Whoa. Hopefully just a misunderstanding, though obviously a pretty serious one. He does sound pissed.
-
Yes he was pissed but not anymore or atleast not on a personal level. Him and Jordan have always been cool from what i've heard. At the end of the day those thing's are just business that no one should take personal anyway. Music business can treat you unfair but usually muscians nows that and can seperate business and friendship because that's what's more important anyway. It's more fun to play together than to be bitter over some lousy deal.
-
Yeah, I just realized that the "FU DT, I'm sorry" came with a smiley. He was serious, I think, but also kinda joking 'cause he knows these things happen.

So I was about to cancel my order as I don't think I have enough money for the other preorders I've done (Remix of Vapor Trails, Dream Theater, etc.). I then checked my email, and it said I got a signed copy.
Screw you, LazyBones.

This new remix of Vapor Trails is quite promising as well - I´m sure a lot of songs will grow, and hope they play some of them in an upcoming tour. I think that the title track, Sweet Miracle, Freeze and Nocturne in particular, should kick a$$ live!

Unfortunately, that's never going to happen. Neil has recently said that it hurts too much to revisit that material and I guess you can't really blame him.
My fantasy of seeing Vapor Trails, Snakes and Arrows and Clockwork Angels all played live in their entirety wilted on the vine with that admission.
Perhaps we can hope for one unplayed live song in the future.

I think I'll dish out for this release when it becomes available online. Sounds cool.

Cool tune! Also, I love the random images and clips in the video.
-
I like this more than anything from Aristocrats.
Also, around 3:32 is taken from Peter Gabriel's Growing Up concert in Milan, also my very first concert. I was about 7 years old. :lol
But yeah,I could be somewhere in the back on that clip. I gotta check the photos I took during the concert though.

My order shipped! SWEEET

I can't wait for this!! :metal
I seem to remember hearing that those who pre-ordered the deluxe edition would get a download link on release day. Can anyone confirm this or am I confusing this with another upcoming album?

I don't recall anything like that for LMR. My shipping email and my original order email do not make mention of it.

Thanks. I must be thinking of something else. There's so many new albums coming out in September/October and it's hard to keep track of all the pre-orders, limited editions, etc.
-
Just got an email today from Lazybones saying there´s an issue with the credit card transaction...I dont know, maybe it´s because it´s an international purchase. I need to sort this out asap, or they won´t hold my signed copy!!!
-
Do we have tracklisting, lengths etc. yet? Their website has remarkably little information for an album that's supposed to be coming out soon. And Amazon doesn't even have it at all.
-
Just got an email today from Lazybones saying there´s an issue with the credit card transaction...I dont know, maybe it´s because it´s an international purchase. I need to sort this out asap, or they won´t hold my signed copy!!!
I got this too. I've never had an issue with this card before, and I've bought albums from small labels in foreign countries with it before.
Honestly, while the album looks neat, I'll probably be sitting it out now if it's too much of a headache to get this transaction through. I don't know why a smaller operation like this wouldn't just use a reliable service like Amazon Payments or something for billing.

Hi Everybody: Scott Schorr here from Lazy Bones Recordings (producer of LEVIN MINNEMANN RUDESS). Release date is today & all orders will be shipped today. Thanks for everyone's patience. I'm sorry if any one has had problems ordering but we're still receiving a ton of orders so I'm guessing a few orders are not coming through in certain regions (?). Please try again. Order @ levinminnemannrudess.com
Also, if you haven't checked it out already, here's a new video, "Scrod" from the album.
https://youtu.be/KF9JZTVDB7I
Thanks for your support. It's GREATLY appreciated.
Best,
Scott
-
After finding out I wasn't charged the first time, I paid again and it all worked out fine in the end.
Scott, nice of you to come around and give us fans a nod.
-
Great. Glad it worked out. If there's any questions you guys would like to ask about the album, making of it, etc., would be glad to answer what I can. I know this is cliche' but true...without people like you that support & purchase this type of music, we would be screwed.
Thanks again!
Best,
Scott ;)
-
Scott,
I hope I´m not asking too much, but here´s a few things I thought about asking you:
- What/who kickstarted this project? Was it the wish of Jordan and Tony to work together again?
- Did they jam to a few Liquid Tension Experiment tunes in the studio?
- What was the reason they didn´t get a guitar player to help out the composition process in the album, and got Minneman to play guitar in it?
- Will they eventually tour to promote this album?
Again, it´s REALLY cool of you to reach out to the fans. Cheers to that!
-
Hi, Rodrigo, I guess some of your questions are answered here:

Not at all! De nada! ;D
-
Hey Rodrigo:
Thanks for the questions. Tony & I produced Levin Torn White & we had a great time so wanted to do another trio record. Tony had worked w. Marco on the new UK project & they got on. So we brought Marco in first & they both wrote stuff & sent it back & forth. These turned out to be almost finished compositions. We all felt that approaching Jordan to be the third member was an exciting prospect as he's such an insane player that we didn't think we'd need to add a guitarist (it just so happens that Marco is a bad ass guitarist & filled in any rhythmic holes that needed to be filled). Poor Jordan. He had a very short time frame to not only add his parts to Marco & Tony's compositions, but he also composed to a few Marco drum beats. Watching this happen was seeing dudes at the top, top, top of their musical game.
They didn't jam to any LTE together (in fact, I don't think Marco had ever heard of LTE before this project!) Actually, the only guys that got to jam together were Jordan & Tony at Jordan's house (this is captured on the DVD of the Deluxe Edition CD & DVD). They all did their parts in their separate studios.
Man, I HOPE they'll tour. It just seems rather impossible for them to coordinate their current & future tour schedules.
Just got one of the first reviews in: https://www.classicrockrevisited.com/show_review.php?id=1139
Record was released a few days ago. Check out levinminnemannrudess.com
Thanks again for letting me hawk this shit on this forum!!!

Songs I'm looking forward to based on their names:
The Blizzard
Mew
Descent
Orbiter
Enter the Core
Lakeshore Lights
They all bring a pretty satisfying synesthetic image to my head. Especially interested in The Blizzard.
-
If all goes well, I'll be digging into it this weekend sound unheard and sight unseen.
-
Same here. If they hadn't told me I was getting a signed copy, I would have cancelled my order and got the standard edition instead. $30 for 14 prog songs I have no clue about? Could be great. But it's a risk.
After hearing Scrod and Ignorant Elephant, I think I made a good choice.
-
My order shipped! SWEEET
I wants haz tracking informations...
-
Yeah I didn't get any tracking. I expect to see it Monday/Tues since it wasn't in the mail today.
-
Ah, I've got to order this once I get some funds in my Paypal.

Hey Scott, thanks so much for answering my questions! Looking forward for the Cd!
-
will this ever become available through iTunes?
-
It will be available on iTunes in early October (maybe sooner.) I'll let you guys know.
Best,
Scott
-
Gnah, I'm on a road trip and would love nothing else but to listen to it while I'm driving. When you order the CD, there isn't a download link perchance, is there? :lol

For those that missed the live chat with Tony, Marco, Jordan you can view an archive of it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqqXlhs8y14

Got the CD. LTE fans rejoice!! Amazing stuff all around.

This finally showed up on Saturday.
Didn't check out the DVD yet, but I've already made a CD copy for the car.
This is even better than I hoped it would be. (I'll admit I had pretty high expectations for this one.) Who knew?
These guys need to get together in a studio and hammer another one of these out so we can have a tour.
I didn't know Jordan had an inner Chick Corea to channel. Words don't do this justice.

This album is KILLER!!! I just listened for the first time a couple days ago on my surround system, and it's absolutely amazing. And then the singing at the end of the last song!! I was like SCHWAAAA
Anywho. Great great record...everyone should buy this! NOW!
-
I listened to it twice. It is great indeed, I loved JR playing on the background following Levin and viceversa. MM playing with that energy is just amazing.
Already have my fav song as well. I think I will listen to it a lot in the next months.
-
I finally got my desktop set up properly in my new apartment, so now I can finally import the CD and get this stuff on my phone so I can listen every day when I walk to class!! :)
-
Totally unexpectedly, my CD was in the mail today! I wasn't expecting it till next week! This will be the perfect CD to distract me from the DT stream
-
Hey Everyone:
SO stoked for the awesome feedback & to those that are pleased with the Levin Minnemann Rudess project. Grateful beyond words. Hope everyone can help spread the word. As of today, we're #1 on AMAZON: #1 Best Selling Hard Rock (I know, there's no prog. category), #1 Most Wished For & #1 Hottest New Hard Rock Release. ROCKING!!!

Oh, we have a VIP here!
Let me congratulate for the GREAT production on this record. It really sounds insanely good.
-
You rock, eviljust. Greatly appreciate the kind words. I'm stoked that Tony, Marco & Jordan are so happy with the record. I think we're all a bit surprised at the pretty cool reaction we're getting. But, as we all know, without you guys supporting this CD, we'd be N O W H E R E.

Well, I ordered from Sweden too, could perhaps explain the delay.

Well, I ordered from Sweden too, could perhaps explain the delay.
Definitely. I'm Norwegian and haven't received it yet either. I'm expecting it on Friday since it was sent two Fridays ago, the norm is 2 weeks (I just received a CD today exactly two weeks after it was sent).
-
I'm Dutch; mine passed through the LA mail processing facility or whatever it's called on the 13th. Dutch customs must have decided not to care and send it through immediately instead of holding on to it for a few days.

With the tracking service of USPS, they seem to not even have shipped it yet. Or am I reading this wrong?

I think you're right, sadly. Though I must say that the tracking info for mine wasn't updated after the sorting facility, though it should have been.

This album is fantastic!! I knew it would be good given the lineup, but it really surpassed my expectations. Haven't watched the DVD yet, so I may do so tonight.

Hey Guys:
For those of you that haven't yet received the LMR CD (or CD & DVD)...since I don't know your particular order #, please e-mail me directly @ scott@lazybones.com & let me know your order #. We'll do our best to track it down. Again, for those outside the U.S., it's taking about 2-3 weeks to receive from the time of us shipping. Sorry again for the hassles.

I have to personally admit that I listened to a version of the album through, erm, unsavory channels. However, about three songs in I decided "whoa, this needs to be purchased".
-
Holy shit, this album is so good! I'm so impressed with how groovy and melodic the songs are!
I think this might end up being even better than the new DT for me.
We need more JR like this. He really makes the difference.

Well you can't compare. I mean, there's a whole different context and perspective. JR has done a great job here and unleashed his creative force in a different way he used to in a DT album. You have this jazzy/fusion vibe all around the record that pushes him in another musical dimension. In Dream Theater he needs to focus on specific stuff and need to have confrontation with other 4 guys that have the same goal as you.

Yeah for sure it is a different kind of sound, but still i was very impressed with some of his parts on this album, it would be brave for DT to branch out to different directions, but still i'm enjoying both albums.
-
W00t, got my copy in the mail yesterday! At work right now, listening to it. Aweeeesome, some really cool tracks.
And yeah, I agree, JR is magnificent on it.

Another comment: After all these discussions about drum sounds, is sooo refreshing to hear Marco's drums. I mean, they actually sound like drums.

Pretty amazing, isn't it?
-
The thing is, the albums that really have moved me over the last few months have been Steven Wilson's TRTRTS and Opeth's Heritage. Both albums have a natural, organic drum sound. Frankly, that's why I connect with LMR and find DT12 "artificial"in a sense.
-
boo. ordered this from amazon at the same time as Haken and DT and wanted them all shipped together but they just messaged me and said they were only shipping the other two right now (fortunately not charging me extra for separate shipping)
I was legitimately most excited for this out of those three though so that's disappointing.
Already have a digital rip of DT anyways, so

I agree with all of this, except for DT12... I think this is the reason I can't connect with DT12... Heritage and TRtRtS, on the other hand, have such a great organic tone; it's extremely refreshing.
-
Given all the music I am currently trying to digest I haven't been able to listen to this nearly as much as I would have hoped, but loving it so far.
-
I'm starting to think that some mail company has lost mine. It's been more than three weeks, and I've never seen any package take that long and actually make it all the way here (the norm is two weeks with snail mail, one if I pay more). More than three weeks has always equaled lost package up to now, so I kinda fear that I won't be able to hear this anytime soon.

Hi Dellers:
Scott from Lazy Bones Recordings here. I'm so sorry you have yet to receive your LMR CD. The U.S. Post office has been shockingly slow in their deliveries outside the U.S. Please e-mail me @ scott@lazybones.com & we can at least try to trace your order. When you e-mail me, please also include your order #. For anyone else on this board that hasn't received your CD, please let me know. Again, total apologies. (If anyone wants to take over the U.S. Post office & is COMPETENT, you could make millions).
-
Lol, I emailed you guys 5 days ago or so. No progress so far with the USPS tracking tool. I don't know what has happened. If the package IS lost, is there any way I can redeem it? I'm supposed to get a signed copy, just a regular wouldn't quite compensate (the signed copy being one of the principal reasons for pre-ordering).
-
Hey JSM:
If you don't mind, please e-mail me again & I'll make sure this gets worked out.
Best,
Scott
-
Hey Scott. I haven´t received mine yet either, and just emailed Christine to find out about the current status...

Mail sent. And please don't be sorry, it's not exactly your fault. When something is delivered to a mail company it's their job to make sure it arrives at the right address within a reasonable time frame.

Thanks Dellars. And Perpetual Change...It's not a matter of competence that the record is not on iTunes yet, it's a matter of choice on our part. We want to sell as many CD's as possible so we can at least recoup the $ spent on this project. That's the facts of the indie record business these days since we have so many people that believe they shouldn't pay anything for music (who have decimated our business). Just being honest. We plan out putting it on iTunes next week.
-
Any chance of seeing it up on Spotify or so?
-
No Spotify.

Well, I don't use iTunes, but I do use amazon.mp3 and Spotify.
I wouldn't go criticizing the post office for being obsolete, though. Believe it or not, there are people like me who won't hear the album because there are actually people out there who 1.) will buy digital music and 2.) won't steal it. So there ya go. I'd say insisting that something is just released physically is a pretty bad move.
edit: I mean, I'm not trying to be a jerk, but do you know how many highly anticipated records are out this month? To name a few, Dream Theater, Haken, NIN, Katatonia, Anathema, Ulver, Alter Bridge, Fates Warning, Vapor Trails remix, etc... the fact that LMR is the ONLY one that I have to pay for now and wait to hear later does NOT help its cause at all... just sayin'.
Furthermore, digital music did not kill the industry. In fact, I think there's a much stronger argument which says that, without digital file sharing, prog rock fails to reach most of its 21st century audience at all. Where it not for the internet, I'd never even know about musicians like Rudess and Minnemann.
-

So why not just download it next week? I'm sure it'll be released on Amazon MP3 as well. Even if it's not on Amazon MP3, the CD is only $13 on Amazon, which is probably only a few bucks more than the digital copy.
-

There is a HUGE leap made in this statement. I agree that without digital sharing we would probably know far less about much of the music we love. However, imagine a universe in which we have all the benefits of LEGAL digital sharing without the industry destroying side effects of illegal music downloading. To think with all the competitiveness, technology, and internet savvy music listeners, we would still have samples at every site, several songs pre-released, and to get an edge up I'm sure many albums would still be streamed in full prior to release. No one decries the digital age, just the illicit part of it that takes the musical license from the artist, and their representatives hands.
-
I fall somewhere in the middle on this particular issue regarding LMR. While I understand that putting stuff on Spotify generates very little revenue, I don't think completely shutting yourself out of digital downloads (which is my understanding how this release is going) is a good way either. I for one got the CD in the mail (mighty fast I might add), but once I ripped it it's now landfill in my basement. I honestly would have been as happy with just the digital download for maybe $10.
-
Hey Guys:
I didn't mean to dis anyone w. my above statement. We are planning, & have always planned, to put the album on iTunes but again, we need to sell the CD's first so we can at least recoup our investment (we - Lazy Bones & the band members - make much more $ from CD sales). I'm sure you all know that it's just that the major label record industry is so scummy than I always want to be as upfront as possible. So, it will be on iTunes next following the very successful run w. the CD (of course CD sales won't stop once it's on iTunes, but they will slow down). Finally, I can guarantee you, 100% (& just don't trust me on this issue), illegal downloading has decimated the music business. Fuck the majors; I have zero love for them. But it's the indies, like Lazy Bones, where we work our ass off to try to put the most killer albums out there & our sales now compared to 10 years ago; the loss is staggering. Let's put it this way...if Levin Minnemann Rudess was released 10 years ago, and we received the same great response we've had now, we would have sold AT MINIMUM, 100,000 CD's. Now if we sell 10,000, we're celebrating (& making a bit of $ along the way). Spotify is the devil in terms of giving almost nothing to the artist but don't get me started. But of course, there's so many great things about the internet. So WTF?! Hey man, sorry for going off but I just thought I'd voice my opinion. From someone who loves music, has been 100% indie from the day I started Lazy Bones years ago & a life long lover of PROG. ROCK!
Thanks, dudes!

Considering a Youtube link is "illicit", I disagree. No way I discovered half of the bands I listened to without sampling their albums on Youtube first.

I get what you're saying, but it's not just because people can steal music now thanks to the internet. It's also because the internet opens up every market to everyone, and over-saturates it. Of the bands I quoted above, I could only imagine half of them even being capable of marketing to me without the internet. Likewise something like this, which I'm sure is awesome, still is kind of a side-project-of-a-side-project coming from musicians who cater to a niche audience already. NOT being available digitally doesn't help its cause at all, but I'm glad to read that's not going to be the case. Hopefully it'll be available beyond just on iTunes.
-
Joe, tons of stuff on youtube is not illicit. Plenty of bands and labels put things up there for us. And again, just because it might not be on one specific site doesn't mean the bands wouldn't have it available somewhere to sample. It's foolish to think that if you have a drive for music, and one narrow avenue was taken away you'd just say fuckit and never discover anything new.
-
Plenty of stuff on Youtube is not illicit, but MUCH of it is. And yes, I'd still love music if it weren't for the internet, but it is not unreasonable to assume that considerably less of it would be able market to me, regardless of how driven I was to listen.
My feelings about CDs are no secret. I'll still buy a CD if it's convenient to do so, but ultimately they have become redundant medium for me. Digital downloads are usually more convenient and almost always a few dollars cheaper, and if there's a Bluray, Vinyl, or 5.1 version of an album on sale, I'm always way more inclined to get one of those if I do decide I want the physical thing. Considering all the work JR does on Apple apps and his overall progressive attitude, and considering that Rudess uses Spotify all the time (because I follow him, and see what he's listening to) it's bizarre to imagine that one of his musical projects is doing a CD-only release of something you have to buy and then wait for to ship. That is neither affordable nor convenient, and soooo 2004 :P. I'm not complaining just for the sake of it, but when there's like 7-8 albums out this week alone that interest me and would cost $100 to buy it all (which I obviously won't do), I tend to just go for the few right in front of me.
-
YES got the album! Finally. Gonna listen soon. :caffeine:
-
Has a digital release been announced yet?
-
LMR to be released on iTunes later this week or early next week. The guys will announce on Facebook & Twitter. I'll let everyone know the exact date.
Best,
Scott @ Lazy Bones Recordings

I'll review it as soon as I hear it, after (hopefully) downloading it off amazon

Scrod is in the top 5 of the songs off the album. Among Scrod is The Blizzard, Mew, Service Engine (those vocals), and Lakeshore Lights.

Arriving any day now!
how do you do that excited emoticon thing
I need that

Awesome, Rumborak. Excellent review & much appreciated.
Thanks, Perpetual Change (one of top Yes songs in my book). Although we'll only have downloads on iTunes. Don't get me started on Amazon & their download program
Scrod is a pretty gnarly track. Have you seen the video:

Thanks again for all your support. You have no idea how much that means to us.
Best,
Scott @ Lazy Bones :tup

OK, that guy who wrote the review quoting the DR database needs a slap on the head. With a 4x2.

OK, that guy who wrote the review quoting the DR database needs a slap on the head. With a 4x2.
Is this some random guy talking about how badly mastered the album is? Because this album is mixed and mastered beautifully.
-
If you find the guy, I'll personally slap him in the head. Probably some dick that sits in his basement & has never even been near a recording studio. Sorry for venting; it's just that his comment is sooooo wrong.
-
What, ONLY on iTunes.
Oh man, this is just not working for me.
OK, Scott, how about I paypal you some money, and you just send me a link to the album. lol.
-
Ahhh. Again, if you knew the inner workings of Amazon & their download program. We've always tried to keep our distribution sources fairly limited so we don't have problems collecting. Not limited in the sense to buyers - just the sellers. I'm giving you the boring & gross side of the business but we do try & keep our distribution limited to top indie retailers, cool online companies (Burning Shed for outside of the U.S.), lazybones.com, the artist's websites (that's pretty rare for a label to allow that), Amazon & iTunes (both of those are a must). C'mon, man...give iTunes a go for this album. It's the same songs you'll get anywhere else, right?!

I was actually somewhat stunned reading the review, wondering whether he was actually writing a review about DT12 instead.
PC, I think at some point you gotta be reasonable :lol

if you want it off amazon, why not just buy the physical album? the difference in cost would be minimal. or just use itunes, its not that bad :P
-
I've been listening to this a lot. It's really great! I feel the sounds can get a bit thick and cluttered sometimes though, some more high register stuff might be good. But the songwriting and jamming is really cool. I wish they made a straight-up fusion album where they could just let their jazz sensitivities go wild, but this is the next best thing. Awesome album.

What? That wasn't me.
I did feature how badly DT12 was mastered in my DT12 review, though!
-
Sorry, the second line of my post had nothing to do with the first one :lol
-
Ah.
I know I probably come across as kind of annoying about that, but I don't think I'm being that unreasonable. I mean, is it that unreasonable to be disappointed an album isn't available on many of the popular formats -almost every other- album is available on?
I don't really like CDs anymore. ::shrug::
-
Given the number of formats they're putting it out on, yes, you're being unreasonable.
-
Huh? I counted two.
- CD (I don't use CDs, all my old CDs are in boxes, in fact, I don't even have a dedicated CD player anymore)
- iTunes (I had iTunes for awhile and it was AWFUL, slowed my whole system down - plus, it's not even out on iTunes yet, right?)
Again, not trying to be annoying, just somewhat disappointed. At this point, I will probably be waiting awhile for this, so I'll try not to whine about it anymore since I obviously don't have any stake in this thread until I finally get the album.
"Scrog" is pretty cool, btw.
-
What's the problem with ripping a CD? Takes about two minutes, and you never have to touch the CD ever again. I never really listen to CDs myself, unless I'm driving a car, but I always buy them to get the best possible quality and ability to choose formats myself. Unless we're talking about Dream Theater CDs still offer the best audio quality, and I don't mind walking 20 meters to the mailbox.
-
Well, I'm gonna stop being a jerk and will cease my anti-CD tirade in this thread.
I did make a thread about the topic awhile ago, though, if anyone is interested in continuing the dicussion. https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=36861.msg1565057#msg1565057

iTunes is absolutely dreadful. That said, the album is now $11.42 on Amazon, with free shipping for prime members and orders over $25. Most album downloads are $9.99, right? If so why not buy it, rip it, and then you could likely sell it and make out and have the music?

Yeah, good point. It was more like $14.99 before, which would have been closer to $20 with shipping. Now that it's lower, I'll probably pair it with a game I've been meaning to play so I qualify for the super shipping. Good catch!
-
Plus you can make out. I didn't even realize that girls liked LMR, but you never know.
-
Hey Dudes:
Yes, surprisingly, girls like LMR!
Perpetual Change - Seriously, if your CD's are just sitting in the basement, why don't you make a list of what you have so guys like me can buy them! ;D I collect CD's & still love the format. So I'm serious - if you're willing to make a list & will sell cheaply, please contact me through our website - lazybones.com
Yep, Amazon was once a cool indie company that has become a bloated joke. We used to be able to talk to someone personally if we had issues, now it's just an e-mail exchange that takes them at best, one week to get back to you. But, as a label owner, they are obviously a must for the buyers.
Re: iTunes for LMR - up very shortly. Will post here when live.
Best,
Scott @ Lazy Bones
-
finally got this in the mail today.
case is in kinda cruddy condition but the CD looks alright.
will be listening soon hopefully.

Trust me, that's been a to do for awhile.
-
Yes, surprisingly, girls like LMR!
That's good, 'cause Nick was talking about making out with this music, but I thought only guys like prog.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
-
My assumption is that "girls" here just means, "more than one girl"
-
I know a girl who loves it! ;)
-
I know I've said this already.
But thanks for this gift and we need another album so we can have the tour that everyone (including Levin Minnemann and Rudess) so richly deserves.
Thanks for the DVD too. Finally got around to watching that. More jams please.

LEVIN MINNEMANN RUDESS - NOW on iTunes!

Damn, this record is awesome! Finally got it a couple of days ago (the first package got lost in the mail), and I'm really glad I bought it. Fits my taste perfectly.

Hey! Wait for me! I'm interested too.
-
I finally got around to buying this yesterday. I had over 30 dollars of credit on iTunes thanks to some birthday presents, so WTF. :lol :lol
Anyway, after one listen, I am not sure what to think. The playing is obviously off the charts great, but a lot of the songs sound like just a bunch of noodling, without a memorable melody to be found anywhere, but then again, some of the songs did have some really nice melodies, like Dancing Feet. More listens to come...
-
ive been listening to it a shit ton lately. and i think i like it even more with every listen somehow. there's 2 or 3 tracks im not so into, but dagnabbit, im starting to think its my 2013 AOTY. :metal
-
Yeah, it definitely gets better the more familiar with the songs you become. I can see the thing about "noodling", but ultimately, I really like the improvisational vibe of a lot of the songs.
-
My favourite track is Frumious Banderfunk (?!?!!?), where they go into full blown crazy Zappa mode. Come to think of it, that's what they should have named that song: "Full Blown Crazy Zappa Mode" :rollin
-
The Blizzard, Scrod, Orbiter, Lakeshore Lights, and Service Engine are my favorites.
-
Strangely enough I've had this in the car for the past few days. I continue to be left wanting more (which I guess is how it should be.)
I can't wait to experience this live. Perhaps in another year or two.
-
Ignorant Elephant, Lakeshore Lights, and Twitch are definitely my favorites.
-
I'm liking it more the more I listen to it, naturally, and it sounds a lot like LTE, but without Petrucci's guitar work.
-

Actually, I think I heard something about most of the songs being Marco compositions, but I'm not sure.
-
So far, Scrod and Mew are easily my favorites; awesome tunes!
And the rest is really good as well. This is far better than I thought it would be. :tup :tup

Yeah, you're right - the songs were written by Tony and Marco before Jordan was even involved. Jordan basically just added his keyboards to the tracks that were otherwise finished. The results were rather impressive anyway. :tup

Mew is a ridiculous(ly good) composition. that 3:18-4:28 section of the song is probs my favorite "minute" of music on the album. the whole song is so good, but man, that section. such a busy mix of melodies and rhythms that fit together so perfectly.
-
Enter the Core has really snuck up on me. Great tune.
-
Hmmmm, I guess my thought that my post the other day would spurn more talk about this album was wrong. ??? :censored
-
I still listen to the album now and then but it hasn't stuck with me the way I thought it would...
-
I love the album but I haven't got around to ripping the files off the CD to my phone to listen anywhere.
-
I'm really hoping for a second album and tour.
Hopefully next year after Levin finishes the Gabriel tour.
-
I would put the chances of a second one to be close to nil.
-

I thought my last comment in January would do the same.
instead I killed this thread, yo.
-
I would put the chances of a second one to be close to nil.
Why is that?
-
I would put the chances of a second one to be close to nil.
Why is that?
Yes, Why do you think that?
Do you know something we don't? Was there some announcement made?
Not trying to be combative, just curious as I thought the response such as it was was pretty positive.
-
It's a combination of things for me. For one, the combination of musicians is something that struck me as unlikely to begin with. Secondly, the album didn't really take off all that much.
EDIT: Thirdly, it was never performed live. I think at least to some degree it shows the level of commitment to the project.

Point taken.
But I don't think the combination is unlikely. I view this as a special project rather than a band. Also, in viewing it that way I'm not sure how much "success" was required to have the second album option.
They justified their reason that it wasn't going to be performed live by saying there wasn't enough material (I wouldn't have a had a problem with that, but I guess they do) and the schedule didn't allow for it. Also they left the door open for revisiting some shows if they recorded a second album which would give them the material.
Obviously, this was not going to turn into anyone's day job, but I think it would be a very enjoyable distraction for everyone involved.
But not knowing what qualifies it as a success and commitment level may prove your point in the long run.
-
I hope they consider doing another.

Hi everybody,
we are going to interview Jordan and Tony with the French fan club. As our policy is to give the opportunity for the fans to ask their questions, we would like to know if you had questions for these two gentlemen.
If you can read French, you can follow our Facebook page (https://"https://www.facebook.com/groups/yourmajestydreamtheater/?ref=nf_target&fref=nf") or our Twitter account (https://"https://twitter.com/YourMajestyDT")

Okay folks, have some great news for tomorrow's show.
Firstly, we will be featuring an album of the year contender which is the new Fates Warning.
But that's not the big news...
In what I think may be a first in the long run of the show, we will be having a song premier on the show.
Tomorrow night will be the very first chance to hear "Back to the Machine" off of From the Law Offices of Levin Minnemann Rudess.
And of course you can pre-order that album here: https://www.lazybones.com/buy-stuff
I'm still working on the rest of the show, but those two bits alone make it one worth checking out!
Okay, that's some copy pasta from my show's thread, but I'm sure the folks here are less familiar with my show, so here is what you need to know. My show starts at 6pm Eastern, and the link is www.wpapu.com. From there there are instructions on how to listen, and if you choose (and I hope you do), chat. I'm not an evil man that is going to force you to potentially listen to three hours of my show to hear this. I'm only going to force you to listen to up to an hour, as I will play the track in the first hour. Of course I hope you'll stick around after that, or subscribe to the podcasts in the future. ;)
So, for those excited for this, I hope you'll come visit tomorrow for a premier from the album!
-
One hour till kickoff! Come check out the new track!

Here's the exclusive interview granted by Jordan to Your Majesty (French fan club)

I was really hoping for a tour.
Still need to pick this up. I've been putting it off for a while now.
-
The album is really good. Excellent music.
