Enigma Machine sounds most likely to me.
-
Along For The Ride, because I can't imagine that lyric being part of a song. Same goes for others, but the placement seems like it could be about right.

Have you heard The Count of Tuscany? :lol
"Get into my car
Let's go for a drive

I'll be your guide
Just step inside"
-
Enigma Machine or Behind the Veil. I'll go with Behind the Veil.

And JP is writing lyrics for the album :lol. I can't wait :lol.

But with a name like The Count of Tuscany, how could it NOT have lyrics? :lol Can you imagine naming an instrumental something so specifically ridiculously awesome?
"What can we name this instrumental?"
"Hey I know, how about The Count of Tuscany?"
"Sounds great!"
Along For The Ride is a fairly generic phrase that could fit an instrumental.
-
The Enigma Machine just stirs up crazy images of Mike Mangini literally murdering a drumkit. It's gonna be nuts! :metal
-
I bet it's Enigma Machine, not only because of the title, but also due to its place in the tracklist.
-
The first time I saw tracklist I thought Enigma Machine could be instrumental.
-
The Looking Glass
And I base that on absolutely nothing.
-
The Looking Glass
And I base that on absolutely nothing.
As opposed to the rest of us. :lol
-
I think that it's "Enigma Machine". Why? Because if someone presented me a list with these track names and asked me which one I didn't want to write lyrics to, that would be my pick.
-
I went with Behind The Veil.
-
I voted for Along For the Ride. Just sounds like it could make a good instrumental.
-
Just thought, the False Awakening Suite could end up being like A Mind Beside Itself, with Sleep Paralysis being the instrumental, Night Terrors going 8-9 minutes and Lucid Dreaming being a bit of a ballad like The Silent Man.
-
I'm gonna go ahead and say that the first track, 'False Awakening Suite' is the instrumental. Might sound odd, but why the hell not open with something grand like a multi-part instrumental overture? No, I'm not trolling and I'm very serious. I think it definitely could be it.
-

Well they are probably recreating Awake this time so this makes sense.

Hmmm, an interesting theory, I like it. Though Erotomania, Voices and The Silent Man are listed as separate tracks on Awake. But why not?

Frank Zappa had an instrumental titled Sexual Harassment in the Work Place. :lol :lol :lol

That is amazing. :lol Not sure DT is quite as out there as Zappa, or anyone for that matter.

That's brilliant. :lol

I'm hoping "Behind the Veil", so that we can be spared some potentially poor lyrics.
-
Enigma Machine! Wasn't Along For The Ride credited as a non instrumental track on the album whiteboard?
-
I'm hoping "Behind the Veil", so that we can be spared some potentially poor lyrics.
"Along For The Ride" gives you a better impression of potential lyrics? :lol

Haha, not much, no. Neither sound too promising, but the title "Behind the Veil" seems to have a greater likelihood of producing cliche lyrics, which I'm actually more critical of than cheesy lyrics.
-
The Bigger Picture...
-
The Bigger Picture, Enigma Machine, and Along for the Ride all sound likely.
I'm also guessing that Sleep Paralysis, Paradoxe de la Lumière Noire, and The Pursuit of Truth could all be instrumental sections of their respective songs.
-
Remember...according to the Progress Chart, "Opening" was also instrumental, but we'll have to wait and see if part or all of "False Awakening Suite" is instrumental.
Also, went with "Enigma Machine" because a complicated instrumental might sound machine like, very rhythmic and fast.
-Marc.
-
Along for the Ride and Enigma Machine could both work, but I've got a hunch about the former.
-
I'm cheating and saying False Awakening Suite cos I'm pretty sure it's the intro track from the bottom of the board.
-
I'm cheating and saying False Awakening Suite cos I'm pretty sure it's the intro track from the bottom of the board.
If you're going by the Progress Chart, then TWO songs are instrumental, "YARGGG" and "The Clover".
-Marc.
-
I think Enigma Machine is the full instramental track, but I also think Sleep Paralysis and Paradoxe de la Lumière Noire will be shorter instramental openings for each of their multi-part songs/suites. Plus the album's Easter Egg.
-
The Enigma Machine just stirs up crazy images of Mike Mangini literally murdering a drumkit. It's gonna be nuts! :metal
Yes indeed! I can see it now: "After surveying the carnage, the investigators and coroners have not been able to determine a motive for the crime. The wreckage was disposed of so as to protect the more squeamish members of the band and its fans".
My guess for motive is MM finding some random post on the internet like "I like MP's drumming better!".
-

-Marc.
Yep, that's what I mean! "Intro - YARGGG." I think False Awakening Suite is YARGGG, and I've brought shame on my family by not remembering that's what the intro was called, seeing as it was the best title on the board.
-
I'm going for Enigma Machine. If it's not instrumental, then I can't imagine liking the lyrics at all, so I'm hoping it will be o.O
Then again, it could be Along for the Ride, because the title doesn't make it seem like a song that would have lyrics.
-
It can't be Along for the Ride as that kept its working title and on the progress chart it clearly had lyrics. Unless The Clover is now Along for the Ride and Along for the Ride is, I don't know, The Looking Glass?*
*Not entirely serious

False Awakening Suite.
Here's my logic.
1. We all know what a suite is, but a "suite" can also be a work that just includes extracts of a longer work. A suite would be particular good if utilized as an instrumental overture to an album, in which case it would have to be the first song.
2. Further more -- be patient -- I've long thought that if Dream Theater were to ever have a band anthem, it'd have to be an instrumental song, since singing about the Dream Theater or something like that would just sound goofy and random. If you look at the Falling Awake suite, it's about Dreams.
3. Which leads me to believe that the first song of the album "The False Awakening Suite" is the spiritual self-titled song of the self-titled album: the instrumental "overture" which is the Dream Theater anthem, the overture piece to an album which the band feel extremely confident as their best most representative music yet.
So, in other words, "The False Awakening Suite", otherwise known as "Dream Theater", the instrumental overture to the self-titled album Dream Theater. Or something like that :D
-
I can see Enigma Machine having lyrics. They would just be incomprehensible...

That actually makes a lot of sense. :tup I wouldn't be at all surprised if you're correct on this. :metal
However, I already voted for Enigma Machine. :lol
-
The Bigger Picture. Why not? Let's gamble. :tup
-
Obviously neither of the multi-parters, or I would think obviously.
-
Along For The Ride, because I can't imagine that lyric being part of a song. Same goes for others, but the placement seems like it could be about right.
Disagree with the placement - I think in general the instrumental is more towards the middle of the album. As for which song based on title alone, I'm going with Behind the Veil as my random guess. As for you not imagining Along For the Ride being a lyric, everyone assumed that Constant Motion was gonna be an instrumental and look at how that turned out!
-
As someone pointed out in the other thread, I think, (can't remember the screenname - will check and credit you, though!) Along for the Ride has actually retained its working title, and the song chart confirms that Along for the Ride does indeed have... at least some vocals, and probably therefore lyrics.
ETA: Wasteland and thematt202, and both in this thread. Whoops! I'll mind my own business now.
-
I was thinking...what if we have some "Hells Kitchen" kind of instrumental? The working title for the instrumental was 'The Clover', right? I can think of something more calm and deep like HK than something crazy and proggy like TDOE. Just a thought, but that makes sense to me...

I was thinking SoC style, but then again, if the epic starts off with an instrumental overture (which the name would suggest it does), you're likely right. But oh well, I've already voted! I'm going to be very interested to hear how these titles relate to the songs, maybe more so than any other DT album (except maybe SC).
-
Behind the Veil was my guess.
-
I voted for Enigma Machine for the instrumental. I'm gonna say it's 6-8 mins long. For ballad, I'm gonna go with Along For the Ride. That's either the ballad or something very similar to Surrounded/Innocence Faded.
-
Voted for Enigma Machine because it just screamed "instrumental title".
-
Enigma Machine. Especially after reading about it on wiki
-
I can see Enigma Machine having lyrics. They would just be incomprehensible...
:neverusethis:
I guess Enigma Machine will be the instrumental, although I wouldn't mind it being Along For The Ride, because I fear some TCOT-like lyrics :tdwn
But that one seems to have vocals, so it probably is Enigma Machine.

I imagine Along For The Ride being more like This Is The Life in terms of lyrical subject matter.

I imagine Along For The Ride being more like This Is The Life in terms of lyrical subject matter.
I got that vibe, too.
-
Why?
-
The title just gives me the impression that it could be about life in general :dunno:
-
Hopefully yes, but unfortunately it reminds me of trips with tuscan counts and fine vintage wine :D

-
I'm positive that at least the first section of the False Awakening Suite will be instrumental. My theory is that the first section (at least) will be their opening music (played over the speakers) for the tour.
They used the Inception theme AND the beginning of Bridges in the Sky last time around, and I think this time, it makes more sense to just have the opening music be their own.
-
I voted Enigma Machine, just seems like the most obscure title, that I have a tough time imagining lyrics for. I understand why people picked Along For The Ride, but I kind of side with those who have said it might be more of a ballad, like TITL.
-

Shoot, just voted "Along for the Ride". I thought if the tour is named after this song, it made sense if it was instrumental (don't know why and can't explain). But if the chart showed it had lyrics....

Based on Studio Diary pt. 3, I totally called this.
John confirmed that the first track is an instrumental and that it's the band's intro theme.
-
Yeah, I called that too and I had it confirmed when that video leaked. He essentially says there's *two* instrumentals though, so which one is the other? :p
-
Two instrumentals. False Awakening Suite, and either Enigma Machine or Behind the Veil.
-
I still think he might mean just Sleep Paralysis as a section is instrumental. I can't see a 2 or 3 minute track - which it must be if it's going to be an intro tape - being called a suite.

Did nobody noticed yet that on the whiteboard there's an "Opening" song which is instrumental ??? I'm almost 100% sure that it is the False Awakening Suite... And even JP said on the third video that it's instrumental but I thought it was clear from the beginning when the tracklist was revealed.

Well nothing is issue I just wanted to point out this fact that the whole suite will be instrumental based on the whiteboard that's all :)

I think it might mean they split Sleep Paralysis (the instrumental) from the rest of the suite in the chart.

Lol oops

What kind of instrumental you guys think it'll be? Something crazier like TDOE, a calm and deep tune like HK or maybe something kinda like YtseJam?
-
I think something quite crazy but more melodic than TDOE. FAS intro will be mellow deep tune, maybe only in strings.
-
I'm gonna guess something like SoC and HK crossed together. Yeah.
-
I'm guessing a song structure a bit like Outcry, but instrumental obviously. Extended technical TDOE-esque section in the middle, but a straightforward, recognizable riff which serves as a "chorus," which the song opens with and keeps on returning to. Song length 6-8 minutes.

I thought about something like that too, but shorter. Like 5-6 minutes.
And FAS will alternate between a epic intro, a heavier core and a truly beautiful ending to it...just guessing :)

The third option.
-
Alrighty, bump-update.
It's been more or less confirmed that the short opening piece, "False Awakening Suite", IS all instrumental as no lyrics have been listed with it on the vinyl package preview posted on the pre-order pages.
We know "The Enemy Inside" is NOT the instrumental because it's the first single off the album, and we know it has lyrics. And given that the 7" clear vinyl single in the Box Set is the song "The Bigger Picture", I doubt that would be the instrumental, especially if it's in the running to be the 2nd single off the album.
Also, given that the stems for "Behind The Veil" are included, I would assume they wouldn't include stems for the instrumental given that the last time they gave out stems was for their first single off their last album in the form of "On The Backs Of Angels", and I think having stems for all FIVE members would be cooler to have, so I can safely predict that "Behind The Veil" won't be the instrumental.
We've also seen lyric sheets for "The Looking Glass", so clearly that cannot be the instrumental either.
This leaves "Enigma Machine" and "Surrender To Reason", and I still bet that the former is the instrumental. It's title sounds more like it would work for an instrumental, given how insane these guys can play, it would be machine-like, and very technical. And a title like "Surrender To Reason" sounds more like a ballad, or at least a song with lyrics, than an instrumental.
-Marc.
-
Along for the Ride does not sound like an instrumental title. It sounds like a slower/acoustic/ballad song. Enigma Machine is likely the instrumental.
-
There was a review that confirmed Enigma Machine as the instrumental. Obviously we don't know if it's legit.
