...sometimes just happen. Moon Bubbles, Bombay Vindaloo, the Zappa Jam, TLF in Tokyo, the amazing Improvisation in Madison are just examples of what Dream Theater is able to deliver when unleashed on the stage.
I would like to introduce this unique jam to all of you who havn't heard it before on bootlegs, as I think it deserves a lot more recognition and praise than it gets now. A part of this (just a part of it) can be found on the IFC 2004 release "A Sort Of Homecoming". The audio on this video, however, comes from an audience sourced bootleg which circulates freely in the web.
It's the Train Of Thought tour, US leg, a sort of a golden age for DT, as most of those who were around at the time will confirm. 3,5 hours long shows were not exceptional happenings, the band was in great shape and the setlist showcased many of DT's brightest gems (A Mind Beside Itself, Metropolis, A Change Of Seasons, Finally Free and Trial Of Tears were not infrequently performed in a single night). To Live Forever was however given very little rotation, being played less than 10 times in the whole tour. Still, every time (save the WDADRU performance) it was followed by a spontaneus full-band jam of variable lenght. Here's the longest and most remarkable of the lot!

Hope you will enjoy it!
Oh yeah, this is THE thread. :hefdaddy remarkable and wonderful.
I love the Learning to Live jams around about 2005 I think. Fantastic stuff. Great videos out there on youtube.
Oooh, this is really nice. Thanks.

You know the topic say "Jams" and not "James"?
Just wanna clarify that for ya ;D
Pfahahaha
That explains why, try as she might, she could not find Apocalyptic James LaBrie in that video.
That was the first DT concert I ever went to! Actually heard DT for the first time the day before :lol
Then, Chino, I dub thee a lucky sod.

You lucky bastard :lol
Did this improv (and of course the rest of the show) impress you? I assume that, since we're here speaking, it did.

Wow, I'm the resident James fan now? I think I have a lot of battling wasteland and Violet to do before I'm handed over the title

I only claim the title of "Resident JLB scholar", you can be the "Resident JLB fangirl" :rollin

Still, there's Violet, Debra and obscure. Think we're going to have to organize a tournament to determine who's the resident fangirl.
I'm sure I'm the ultimate KM fangirl though. Time for a forum title change!
In the DTIFC CD 2004, what is The Spirit of St. Louis?
So, how do people suggest we structure this tournament?

Another Jam, performed in St. Louisa few weeks earlier. Unfortunately, if a recording of that show exists, it never surfaced and circulated. A real shame, since The Spirit Of St. Lous is another huge favourite of mine :(

Yes, indeed, there needs to be a tournament to see who is the biggest JLB fan. Except I'd have to go easy on you girls so I don't win by TOO much ;)
Actually, I keep reading this threat "Mindblowing James" and getting excited then dissapointed :'( And then I want to go to another DT concert even more!!

Of course!!! But there is always that moment of dissapointment when something I think is related to James, actually isn't :'(
Well, the thread now seems to be about not quite being about JLB. Is that close enough?

Well it's not our fault you guys started talking about him ::)
Which is a shame, because the jam is soooo good. It's like, if Moon Bubbles sounds like bubbles on the moon, this one sounds like Sun Bubbles.

We'll just have to roshambo for it. :xbones :P :lol
Hehe. But no, seriously: How is this competition going to be orchestrated, and how is it judged?
You're asking ME?! Surely you jest. :lol
Ma'am, I always jest, except when I am the jester.
:icy:
:rollin
(That wasn't even meant to make sense, but glad it was well recieved.)
Well, actually, the correct answer is:
"Of course I jest - and don't call me Shirley."
I am most disappointed that the one time I managed to get hold of a DVD of that, the player broke.
Wow, there's a court jester running around the thread :whololo:

Sun Bubbles. Period.
Mora, can I steal that for the name of a section of something?

Yes. I'd be honored.
^_^
There was a pretty awesome (but not very long) jam at the end of Metropolis during the first night of the DVD shooting...
I love the jam in the WDADR version of Metropolis.
I like the Ytse Jam on toast myself... :P
Hey Jammin' dudes, check this out! :tup
Yesterday's show!

That's a delicious bread spread right there.
And for the record, since my first response to this thread wasn't about James, this one isn't either.
I want to put that in a jar and eat it. I like jam.
