Title: Dream Theater well featured in "2010s in Music" Wiki page
Post by: darkshade on January 07, 2012, 06:04:30 PM
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010s_in_music (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010s_in_music)

Going through Wikipedia, I decided to look at the page that talks about this decade in music, and noticed a lot of prog rock was mentioned, particularly Dream Theater. As the page is mostly dedicated to artists and bands that make a lot of money and are more mainstream, I was a little surprised to see them, and many other great bands, in the article. But that may be why they are there, because DT sell albums.

Look in the opening paragraph, and the "General Overview" section. It's an interesting little read.

I thought it was well known that JLB digs holes during instrumental breaks, thus they decided to do a whole album based around his shovelin'

Pirates DO dig holes to bury treasure.

And I'm pretty sure MullMuzzler's original name was SwashBuckler.

I'm italian, blob! Been studying english for 12 years but I the only accents I can tell from the others are British and US-American. I am clueless when it comes to tell an Australian speaker from a Canadian, unless the latter starts doing or saying something unmistakebly canadian.  :lol

Not that I disagree with the notion that progressive music in general is rising in popularity, but I feel like that overview heavily overemphasizes prog's importance in the last two years.

Honestly, it's a genre that has seen stability and even growth in popularity and commercial success during a period of fairly significant decline in the music industry. It's worth noting.

Sure, but it's at least 25% of a general overview of all music for this decade - at that point it kinda moves from 'being noted' into 'some fanboy editing the wiki page' territory.

Yup. Also I believe genres like indie and dubstep all got more popular than prog in the last few years.

Yep. When a more impartial Wiki editor comes along, he'll likely notice that progressive music is being discussed at an extreme length and without the citation of sources and a lot/all of the prog discussion will be cut out.
