Title: DT Picture / Art Project
Post by: blackngold29 on December 18, 2011, 02:25:29 PM
I started playing around with Photoshop a lot last week, with the settings that can make photos look like they were paintings or drawings. I was doing some of my own pictures and then tried a few I found online. This one was a public domain shot on Wikipedia after touchups:

I got an 8x10" of it today and it looks really cool framed – a hell of a product for a $3 pic at Wal-Mart.

I was thinking we could get a bunch of good shots. And there are certainly other guys on here with far better Photoshop skill than me too. We can touch some up, or play with whatever settings, at everybody's suggestions. Then anybody is welcome to go get them printed or whatever they want (like I said, they're a bargain at most stores).

I DO NOT want to violate any copyrights, so these would have to be stuff you've taken yourself or have permission.

Or whatever else anyone thinks, just thought it might be fun to throw the suggestion out there.

A little while ago I was messing around with Photoshop painted look techniques, and I wasn't happy with any of the automatic filter methods.
I found that a good method is to use the smudge tool, set the strength to about 50%, and basically hand paint the strokes right over the image. A larger brush size will give a better painted look, but also be a bit more difficult to control. This method requires a bit of technique, and a lot more time, but the results can look really good.
Here's a test one I did at the time-

Photoshop CS5 has a new brush called the Mixer Brush that blends colors and if used right,it can make a photo look like a painting.Something like the smudge brush.I will make an attempt and post it.

Go to 3:13 to see some examples.

Edit: I think is looks nice! (https://img838.imageshack.us/img838/6619/jlba.th.jpg) (https://img838.imageshack.us/img838/6619/jlba.jpg)

Whoa!

That, incidentally, is a brilliant way to get featured on DeviantArt. Just file it under "paintings" (no, I don't know how it works, shhh) and let the minor internet celebrity roll in. "It looks so real!"

Double followers if you set your name as Cleo and end all your comments in ":3".

Back only an hour, and you've already been promoted to head of BVD's PR department.

Or should I say Cleo's PR department?

I have actually been wanting to learn how to do this type of stuff for a while now. I landed a pretty killer shot at a show a few months back that I wanted to get enhanced. I'll show you guys a smaller preview and maybe you can help me out.

Btw, those pics are awesome! I definitely like the one with JP and JR.
