Title: What's your favorite Mangini moment on ATDOE?
Post by: Lotion on November 11, 2011, 09:14:24 AM
So, I'm posting on my phone, so I might have overlooked a thread about this. Oh, well.. here it goes

What's your favorite Mangini moment on ADTOE? There's really a lot going on with the drums on the album that is hard to notice, so I wanted to make this thread to see if I might discover something new. Even though I've listened to it about 150 times already! Please, no replies like "The instrumental section in LNF".

My favorite moment:
Outcry 8:27, the small drum solo in the end of the instrumental section is for me, absolutely mindblowing!

Something in OTBOA. Maybe the super fast cymbal rides in "You're blinded by your hunger!" or the drums when JR is playing that digital riff after the last chorus, and the snare hits in between things (actually, I think he is playing two rhythms at once, one with the keyboards and the other with the guitar/bass....either way it sounds amazing).

My point where that I wanted more specific moments, like one single fill or a cool groove, not a "6:00-9:00 in that song is awesome"

Well, the tickle section is a specific moment. I get what you are saying though.

I like the tickle section but I like some stuff that is going on with the drums (breaks and odd changes and what not) a little later between about 4:27 and 4:44 even better (I think). It's just so very clean and tight. I absolutely love it and I'm also pretty sure it's my favorite song on the album.

End of BITS. Machine gun. There's loads more subtle moments in there but that's my favourite one.

His bell work in Bridges In The Sky from 2:15 - 2:26. The way he speeds it up for a second. So simple. So good.

And his foot work from 1:13 - 1:30 in Breaking All Illusions.

And the fill from 4:49 - 4:52 in Lost Not Forgotten.

And every other thing he does on the album.
