actually today.. its 12:50 now
so who's planning on being there? let's make a list and all say hello and maybe grab a drink afterward. I know some great hangs in the area for cheap.
this is the current list, according to the other thread:
mrjazzguitar (Mike)
cecilia
watertofire
gabeh1018
mebert78
livehard
see you all tomorrow!
Can't spend much time after, but would love to chat for a few.
yea I will be there with my sister, you can't miss me I will have a hat on and an eyepatch - say hello
does anyone know how this is actually going down tomorrow? I imagine we wait in line, but can we take photos , talk with the guys, and they will sign stuff.
How are we gonna identify each other? Should we bring large DTF signs?
I'll be wearing a pleather jacket and jeans. I'm 5'0, hair is straight, and I wear glasses. I don't have time to make a sign
I was joking about the signs, but descriptions are good. I'm 5' 5" with a goatee, glasses, and a plaid shirt. Are we going to get there a bit early, like 5:30?
I'm going to head over after I get out of work, should be there around 6
I'm sneaking out of work an hour early and I'm taking the train to NYC. I should be there about 5:45 latest, I hope. I'll be wearing my DT hat like in my pic and an Arch/Matheos shirt. I'll be standing with gabeh1018 most likely. I'm down for a drink or whatever afterwards!
Basically, I mostly want a pic with Mangini and/or Myung, lol. I have pics with JP and JR. I'll get autographs, but a pic is more enjoyable, in my opinion. So I hope they let us snap a quick pic or two with a band member.
cool - i'm the guy with glasses, blonde ponytail, beard, and a guitar case.
I wanna bring my electric for the band to sign, but its a epiphone les paul. I feel like thats asking DaVinchi to sign a picture of microsoft clip art or something...
I really have nothing for them to sign. I figured I'll bring my copy of ADToE. I can't have Mangini sign something from the Portnoy era, and ADToE is the only Mangini-era thing out there right now. Unless I bring an instrument like you guys, but I don't have one. Maybe the store will have small ADToE posters or something that we can purchase for signing.
do you all like Vietnamese food? I know a great joint very close by and the owner sometimes hooks me up w/ free drinks for the table if I bring new people.
I have a bass... Do you guys really think bringing an instrument to get signed is a good idea? Seems like it might get in the way or something. Also where on the instrument would you get it signed?
I was thinking of having the sign it on the pickgaurd, but I dont think its big enough for all signatures. I heard you can get it signed on the body, then you put like a nail polish or something on top to preserve... I dunno though
i'm having them sign the back of my main guitar.
people get their instruments signed all the time. the only issue is that its Guitar Center -- they usually make you check your instruments/bags at the door but I think for a signing you'll be able to bring your stuff in.

Oh, Myung will sign a bass just as fast as him going through a cup of Starbucks.
***************************UPDATE*********************
Just called Guitar Center they said the band is signing ONLY the record and NOTHING else.
He also said they MAY take pictures, that I would find out when I get there. Soooooo....yeeeeeeahhhh....... :-\
Well that sucks! I lugged lifting shadows with me to work
Well, I'm gonna leave soon. I really hope to see some of you there; maybe we can help each other take pictures!
That was pretty cool. Can't believe I met the guys. By far the nicest was Petrucci, I must have sounded like such a idiot I was so nervous. I didn't get a chance to talk to LaBrie, he kinda just pushed me along, same with Rudess. But still they were all polite and nice, and really class acts.
Just got back from the signing. Unfortunately the room wasn't that bright, so the camera had a long exposure time and most of my pictures were blurry. Still, I shook the hands of John Petrucci and Mike Mangini.
Final thought: John Myung has the best signature.
I told Myung I loved how he was mixed in the album. I think I said that I could really hear his awesome playing (I cant exactly remember I blacked out through the whole thing), and he seemed to appreciate that.
That was friggen awesome! I told them each a quick story. Talked to JP about his wife, he said he should've bought her lol. Jlb apologized for stepping on my fingers about six years ago lol.
Im on the train heading back home. All I have to say is: holy shit! Its so insane to walk in there and see all 5 band members sitting there looking back at you. My mind was everywhere. Im trying to take pictures so im not paying attention to talking to the guys. Then im trying to talk and I feel like I should be taking pics lol. Seeing all five guys is overwhelming. You're trying to talk, take pics, hand them your poster and move along at the same time. Then its over and u feel like u didn't get enough good pics or ask them a good question lol.
They lined us up outside the building and took us in 5 at a time into a back room. I walked and mangini made eye contact with me. I yelled out "MIKE MAN GI NI." He smiled at waved and gave me a thumbs up. Then i yelled "nice job on the albu, mike" and he mouthed thank you. Myung was first at the table and he signed the poster. I asked him for a pic and he hesitated for moment like he didnt want to, but he stood up. Unfortunately, i got kinda pushed down the line and he ended up too far away for a pic. They wouldnt let u go behind the table. The guys only stood up and bent over the table for a photo. I got pics with labrie and mangini tho. I have pics with petrucci and rudess from last year. Labrie thought he had met me before but i said no. Jordan remembered me from his japan benefit. I tried to get jordan to reveal something about the stage setup or scenery for the shows, but he didnt. -he just said they are excited to get out there.
Niice meeting u, cecilia.did you get any good questionsanswered?
Also, did u guys get take pics? If u did add me on facebook so I can see. I just got a new phone and mine came out shitty so I wanna steal a few pics for my profile. Just search and add m on facebook. My name is michael ebert.
Ahh so jealous! I wasn't really able to get pictures, they were shuffling us along.
I got a few blurry/crappy pics of mrjazzguitar talking to the guys.
Cecilia. I just PMed you. Gabe's sis got some crystal clear pics of the band that he is sending to me shortly. I'll pass them along to you if you want them.
Post pics!
yea definitely awesome time, I was kinda surprised at how quick everything moved. Didn't really get to say much to them. Told James he sounded fantastic on the the album and had a short talk with Mangini about I saw him at Berklee in 03 at a drum Clinic playing steve vai's fire garden. I got some nice pics though.
it was nice to hang out and talk with Michael and I had a quick talk with Cecilia. Nice meeting her.
I'm the guy that looks like a bear, long brown hair, beard.
Oh, I'll also be signing all of your shit.
