Play.com has a pre-order up for the Budokan gig on Blu Ray. About time. Certainly had the best picture quality.
Release date of October 17th.
If this has been mentioned elsewhere and I missed it, sorry and please lock it/remove it.
FUCK
YES, BITCHES
FUCK YEAH
I'm happy for all you blu-ray owners out there.
I knew there was a reason I was waiting to buy Budokan.
Was it actually shot in at at least 1080P? Because if the original footage is all actually DVD quality... I'll stick with what I've already got.

That's a good question...however, being the collector I am, I will probably get it either way. :P
I think Budokan was actually shot on film.
I assume this was shot in high def, otherwise there would be no sense to this.
In any case I am very excited and will certainly be buying this.
I don't know where that came from. I have been working with the label for the better part of 2 years trying to get this and Score released on Bluray. For informational purposes, Budokan was shot 1080I and converted to 1080p to give it more of a film look. Score was shot 1080p. All the processing for both shows was done in hidef, including menus. All that needs to happen is for the label to pull the trigger (it hasn't happened yet, as I spoke with them just last week). The only thing that needs to be done is to author both shows. I'm a little foogy in this fact, but I also seem to think that there is 5.1 audio for these also.
Budokan was shot in hi-def. In a commentary Portnoy mentions this fact. So Fuck YES I am getting it!
Hopefully Score gets the same treatment. :heart

Well I would *like* to assume that for Blu-Ray hi-res 5.1 is practically expected. I would be rather disappointed if I get a Blu-Ray and the audio sees absolutely no improvement.
Sweet, setting up my home theater over the next couple of months; might have just found something to christen it with ;D
Sweet! I actually have a setup I can listen to this on now. Here's hoping Score gets a BluRay release as well (I'd be shocked if it didn't following Budokan).
Great news. I never picked up the Budokan DVD, but I'll grab it on Blu-ray.
Any other websites have this? I've never heard of play.com but it looks like a UK site.
I'm so glad they are finally releasing something like this, now we just need Score, and maybe a new one for the ADTOE tour on blu ray and life is complete. :D
This tour BETTER have a DVD or I will die.
UGH, I just re-bought Budokan recently because my old copy was severely scratched! >:(

???
Great news, JLB said he thought this might happen in a recent interview, didn't expect it to happen so soon though. I got a blu ray home theater system so this is going to rock, I also got my blu ray player in my computer with 7.1 headphones so this is going to rock either by myself or with the neighbors listening. If they do this, I would expect Score to get the same treatment.
Sounds great! I won't get a Blu-Ray version of the concert, though.
Budokan is by far the best looking DT concert even on DVD, so I can only imagine how amazing it would look if it were released on Bluray. Shame I don't have a player yet, because I'd get this.
I've never actually seen something in Blu-ray.

You're tearing him apart, Dream Theater!
I would buy this if I primarily listened to stuff over a DVD player, but I don't, so... CD it is for me.
Yeeeeeeeees! :D
I will not hesitate to buy this :)
Awesome!
Probably only a matter of time until Score too! :D
Matt
FUCK YES
This WILL be awesome
Score and Budokan are on separate labels, so while I hope Score follows soon, I don't think Budokan going to Blu-Ray means anything directly for Score.

In other words, this has not been approved yet, so either (1) the label is still deciding and has been in communication with distributors like play.com, but nothing is decided yet, or (2) play.com simply made a mistake. Either way, I wouldn't get excited about this just yet.
It's exciting to know that its at least being worked on, and play.com wouldn't just randomly put Live at Budokan Blu ray up on their site unless they knew something. Even if they jumped the gun before its approved, that probably means it is getting close. And that makes me excited. :D

Well, shit.
But I've waited this long, and like many people, I actually got my fill of the Budokan DVD at Best Buy when it first came out (I sat in the Home Theater area and watched it a few times) so I'm good for now. I'm a sucker for a good high-def concert vid, though, so I know I'll eventually pick it up.

The preorder's on amazon UK too.
If that's true I'm gonna need a box of double ply tissues, the 500 pack.

Ha! Who wants to bet some schmuck with some power (perhaps at a label or the website where it's up for preorder) saw JL's quote, misinterpreted it and got the site to set up the preorder, ASSuming it was happening.
BobS23 knows what he's talking about. If he says it hasn't happened yet, you can take that to the bank.
Apparently, silly people don't care what Bob has to say on the subject and would rather trust a website than the one guy who knows. That's the Internet for ya'.
I'm only ordering this if they CGI Mike Mangini's face over Portnoy.

Precisely. It'd make the concert that much more epic. Same goes for Score as well.
So Amazon UK have added some info to their page on this, including a mock-up picture, a short description (acknowledging the HD footage) and the fact that it will have all the features of the original DVD on 1 Blu-Ray disc.

Amazon puts lots of things on pre-order before they exist. Seeing something on pre-order there is kind of like a reminder system...you sign-up for it and hope it gets released.
About time! I can't believe how many bands got Blu-Ray treatment before DT, and some of them aren't even that interesting to watch.
Can't wait!
Any chance of Score getting the same?

I'm not holding my breath, but I'll be the first to say that I haven't seen a Dream Theater DVD in years because I haven't had a SD set in years. Once you've seen a concert filmed in HD, watching the DVD is like listening to music transcoded 10 times over.
I'm not convinced that this is confirmed as I'd expect to see all members bragging about it on FB/Twitter and the likes as they do these days. But I can't wait to see a Dream Theater release come to bluray.
it's kind of interesting, this damn DVD already looked so damn good and pristine I didn't thhink it could get any better visually

Listen to bobs23 in all things video-related.
@ bobs23; I'm not calling you out, I know your reputation here is solid. But can you share with us in what capacity you've worked on DT projects and/or other video/audio projects? If you want to protect your identity, we'll respect that. Just as TempusVox :) Just seems cool that someone in the 'industry' posts here.

Watch the credits in Score, LTE Live in LA, L@B (I believe - could be wrong), the Bucharest DVD (official bootleg) and you'll find out. ;D (He does video editing, color correcting, mixing and probably a bunch of other things I can't think of at the moment)

Yeah the eagle rock link is broken but you can still get there from the site, just search dream theater and its the only one listed.
Oh and I believe the rest of the songs after In the Name of God might have been from the one of the other Japan shows that was mentioned in the special features but didn't make it on the DVD. Can anyone see if this was their 2nd setlist?

Good thought, but doesn't match up. #28 specifically says
Home - Live Scenes from New York; that wasn't filmed in HD though was it?
I looked up on the tourography (thank god it is back), and I think some of those may have been from a 2006 show in Tokyo, but it doesn't all match up.
https://www.mikeportnoy.com/dates/tourography/searchresults.asp?criteria=another+won&in=song
There's only 4 shows where they played Another Won in Japan, and it is followed by Fortune in Lies, but the rest don't match up. Maybe its just a hodgepodge of random shows throughout the years as like a bonus disk? Or maybe they made that part up to screw with our heads which worked marvelously...
I'm still hoping for a multi angle concert.

Yes, Eagle Rock makes the DVDs, or at least licenses them from overseas manufacturers, but they too have been known to post info on DVDs that aren't even in the process of being made. Unless I'm confusing them with someone else, which is possible.
