Title: Tour de France 2011
Post by: kartmaze2 on July 01, 2011, 07:35:10 PM
Ok, let's get this bad boy started! It's off in 8 hrs and 30 min.

I hope this will be a severe-injury-free race with lots of stage victories to Hushovd and Boasson Hagen, and a GC victory to Andy Schleck.

And I expect at least jsem to contribute to this thread.

I wouldn't mind an Andy Schleck victory. Pretty much anyone other than Contador would be good in my mind.

I'm sad to see that my favorite cyclist, Robbie McEwen, wasn't selected for Team Radioshack, but that's not really a surprise considering it's a Bruyneel-led team full of GC type riders.

Putting my bets on Gilbert or Hushovd for stage 1.

Gilbert obviously win. MY fantasy tour team is looking good, except for Alberto and Samu.

Just bad luck to get dragged into that crash

Stupid woman standing almost in the middle of the road.

I almost hit the nail with Hushovd and Gilbert, though... Good to see that Wiggins, A. Schleck and Gesink get the same time as the guys in front. I guess Contador and S. Sanchez are the really big losers today.

Some German TV stations will not continue their broadcast next year due to all the doping scandals.
I like watching it, even this doping discussion will never end. But what to do? Legalize it?

No. Lifetime bans for those caught racing doped.

Get rid of the UCI.

No. Lifetime bans for those caught racing doped.

Yes, AT LEAST more than a 2 year ban! That's just a nice training/recovery period...

The funny thing is that's almost only Spanish and Italian riders who still do it. I like how Sky has a absolute zero tolerance towards it: if you ever have tested positive in the past, you are not able join the team (i.e. David Millar).

Agreed. I don't just hate him because he's been successful... the guy just seems like a total ass. And his meat excuse? Ridiculous.

I can't wait for mtns. And I can't believe the unluck RadioShack is having. Brajkovic crashing out yesterday and DNFing, and Leipheimer losing a minute due to a crash 4km from the finish today.

Holy crap, one of the cars hit Flescha and Hoogerland. Flescha fell down hard and Hoogerland was rammed over a fence. They are both riding again now though.

Hoogerland had quite a shot at winning this stage as well :/. Commentators here are raging so hard because a possible Dutch victory was shot down by some retarded driver.

Katusha has rules apparently, that if you get caught doping you must pay a fine equivalent to a five-month salary to the team.

That's a pretty hefty fine, and he deserves it.

Damn awesome to be a norwegian cycle-fan these days!

The next days will be really exciting! Go Voeckler! If he won't make it (which I think will happen), I'm rooting for Evans.

I just don't like him. Too cocky and whiny. And he's french. I'd like either

If any one is whiny, it's Shrek.

"These descends are too dangerous" like the crybaby he has always been.

Samu Sanchez deserves this, he's been on the attack on every single mountain stage - and if it weren't for the crashes early on he would've been in yellow by now.

Today I'm expecting fireworks, hopefull already on Agnello - by Contador, so that he can get rid of the Leopard domestiques.

Getting very close now, very tight at the top and with a very flat time trial to come, voeckler clinging onto the yellow jersey with little more than his fingernails atm too.
Cavendish has done the business so far, came through from behind to take a points lead for the green, and not many sprints left.

They're just complaining about the downhills because they suck driving them. So unnecessary when the downhills are like this every year...
The only thing they acheive by whining like this, is loss in popularity...

Exactly this.

They said something like, who wants to see fast downhills and cyclists risking it?

Well shoot me, because I do. Attacks in the downhill is the second best thing to attacks in the mountains imo.

WOWOWOWOOWOWOWOOOW

Greatest stage in recent memory. Yesterday and today. It's like Giro 2010 - epic beyond belief.

Evans and Andy would both deserve the win, both having done heroic acts.

I'm pulling for Evans. If he can do the time trial of his life tomorrow, he'll win. If Andy wins that's ok too. Both deserve it.

Oh yeah: Contador is also a great champion, never afraid to attack if he has the legs. He makes races exciting for sure.

If he hadn't had those crashes who knows what would've happened.

Plus, he has the Giro in the legs. Seems like the double is impossible now, though I think Conti will try for the triple at least at some other point in his career.

If they don't think its a risk worth taking, then slow down and let the others go ahead on the downhill. Nobody says they have to hang with the others on the descents!

EPIC ride by Cadel.

He deserves this, Andy will win at some point in the future. Maybe if Conti gets his suspension, or when Conti's shape dwindles because of age.

This came in just before the TDF: https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/fomer-bmc-soigneur-implicated-in-drug-bust (https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/fomer-bmc-soigneur-implicated-in-drug-bust)
Basically, a guy working within BMC got caught with 185 doses of EPO adressed to his wife. He said it was for personal use.. Lol. It was the juice that was going to be used to get a win with Cadel.

Not that I'm surprised, the highest placed rider I consider clean is Tom Danielson on 9th. But even that is questionable.

I'm no expert, but microdosage can't stay that long in your system. It also doesn't help like a huge dose does, but it helps and is much easier to get away with i presume.
