I was talking to my friend about all the music coming out this year, and started a listed of what I like the most now that the year is almost half over. It looked like this:
10. Mastodon- Live at the Aragon
9. dredg- Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy
8. Thomas Giles- Pulse
7. Evergrey- Glorious Collision
6. Eisley- The Valley
5. Between the Buried and Me- The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogs
4. ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead- Tao of the Dead
3. Radiohead- The King of Limbs
2. Bon Iver- Bon Iver, Bon Iver
1. Scale the Summit- The Collective
Runner-Up: Long Distance Calling- ST
Then I realized there where still a bunch of good albums that I heard and liked, but didn't quite make the cut for me, and that included stuff like this:
5. Within Temptation- The Unforgiving
4. Blackfield- Welcome to my DNA
3. Pendragon- Passion
2. Eden's Curse- Trinity
1. Falkenbach- Turida
+ Neal Morse's Testimony 2 (only heard disc 2 so far)
Then I realized that the following bands still had music supposedly being released this year:
Devin Townsend (2! Albums!)
Dream Theater
John Petrucci (solo)
Mastodon
Mike Portnoy (Like, 2 or 3 projects!)
Opeth
OSI
Pain of Salvation
Steven Wilson
Storm Corrosion
Symphony X
Tool
Yes
2011: great year for music, or best year ever?
-
Depending on how good DT11 and MP's side projects go, it very well could be the best year for me.
-
Yep, it's been awesome so far and all that to come!!! :metal Pure heaven!
-
It's been okay so far. BTBAM, Scar Symmetry and Beardfish were really good. Still better stuff to come I think. Evergrey was really good, but was totally ruined by pathetic production.
-
The Scar Symmetry is excellent.
-
We had excellent releases from Devin Townsend, Eisley, Polkadot Cadaver, The Dear Hunter (at least the compilation CD which is EXCELLENT), My Morning Jacket, Blackfield, Scale the Summit, The Decemberists, Bright Eyes, Radiohead, and Disasterpeace so far. That's already amazing, and we still have new Dream Theater, Steven Wilson, Storm Corrosion, Russian Circles (supposedly), Fair to Midland, Opeth, MMPLS, and I'm sure theres more to look forward too that I've briefly forgotten. I have yet to check out the new Bon Iver, and I was disappointed by dredg and Alestorm, and Unexpect still isn't my thing, but its been a pretty badass year.
Other than The Valley though, there haven't been any albums this year that have become fast favorites the way Addicted, Ki, Crack the Skye, No More Stories..., Act III, Dethalbum II, and The Incident have become favorites of mine from the last zomgamazing music year: 2009. So it may not top 2009 for me in that respect but the year's only halfway finished. These other guys still have a chance!
-
1. Bon Iver
2. Antlers
3. Radiohead
-
The Scar Symmetry is excellent.
Yeah man. A big improvement over DMD. Still no match for Solution .45, but a really great album.
-
Don't forget Fleet Foxes, Foo Fighters and Death Cab!! :)
-
Top ten so far for this year:
10. The Antlers - Burst Apart
9. Devin Townsend - Deconstruction
8. Blackfield - Welcome to My DNA
7. Eisley - The Valley
6. dredg - Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy
5. CunninLynguists - Oneirology
4. Unexpect - Fables of the Sleepless Empire
3. Bon Iver - Bon Iver, Bon Iver
2. Devin Townsend - Ghost
1. Radiohead - The King of Limbs
I expect this to change pretty drastically by year's end.
-
The Scar Symmetry is excellent.
Yeah man. A big improvement over DMD. Still no match for Solution .45, but a really great album.
I liked the new SS album, but I'll be honest, I don't think this album will age well for me.
-
It has been a pretty damn good year so far, loads of 8/10 and 9/10 albums for me! No 10/10s yet, but I haven't heard the new Wolverine or Antlers albums yet, and we still new music from The Dear Hunter (among others) so there's still time.
Also, it's perfectly possible that over time my current album ratings will change. It happens a LOT!
-
Don't forget Fleet Foxes, Foo Fighters and Death Cab!! :)
Don't know the first, and not into the second, but I did listen to the third one on NPR's live stream. It was decent, but I'm not a big fan. I only ever really liked "Transatlanticism."
-

Agreed on all points.

I highly recommend that Fleet Foxes record, Helplessness Blues. I think it is a record that a lot of people on this forum would dig, if they gave it a chance. :)
-
I haven't heard it yet, but I'm keen to.
The Foos new album is excellent. :tup
-
New year has been pretty good this far, hard to say if it's great or just good, it kinda goes down on what's to come.
There are several albums on their way by artists I really love, and I'm kinda afraid after hearing The King of Limbs, that 2011 will be a year of disappointment, at least in terms of great bands making not so great albums, but there has been other examples.
I feel like both Blackfield and Eisley almost outdid themselves with their new albums, they are at least on par with the earlier albums, Thomas Giles's solo album was great and so was the BTBAM-EP.
And lets not forget Ulver, probably my favorite this far.
There are however a few 'major' releases I haven't heard yet that might end up high, like Devin Townsend x2, The Dear Hunter, dredg, and so forth.
-
Everyone should at least give the new Unexpect a chance. It's probably the best album I've ever heard. It's on free streaming on bandcamp: https://unexpect.bandcamp.com/album/fables-of-the-sleepless-empire
Other than that, there's been a whole lot of awesome stuff released so far: Ulver, Radiohead, Eilsey, CunninLynguists, dredg, Bright Eyes, Polkadot Cadaver, etc. I'm still really excited for new Thrice and many many more! :tup
-
You guys forgot-
Born Of Osiris
Periphery
The Faceless
Five Finger Death Punch
Trivium
Children Of Bodom
The Agonist (Not sure if release this year or next though)
Emmure
Luckily Gorille mentioned Unexpect's new album which was awesome!
But yeah, EXCELLENT year for music. IMO the best ever.
-
Most exciting: the new Circle Takes the Square album :caffeine: :caffeine: :caffeine:

This thread made me remember how many 2011 albums have come out that I haven't listened to yet. I guess I'd better get on that.
2011 Albums I have listened to:
Caligula's Horse - Moments from Ephemeral City
Mogwai - Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will
Mr. Big - What If...
MyGrain - MyGrain
Obscura - Omnivium
Protest the Hero - Scurrilous
Radiohead - The King of Limbs
Scale the Summit - The Collective
TesseracT - One
Thomas Giles - Pulse
2011 Albums I haven't listened to (but will within the next few days because this thread reminded me to):
Beardfish - Mammoth
Blackfield - Welcome to My DNA
Devin Townsend - Ghost
Devin Townsend - Deconstruction
dredg - Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy
Evergrey - Glorious Collision
Explosions in the Sky - Take Care, Take Care, Take Care
The Human Abstract - Digital Veil
Long Distance Calling - Long Distance Calling
Neal Morse - Testimony 2
Ulver - War of the Roses
Wolverine - Communication Lost
-
So pretty much you haven't listened to all the amazing albums this year. :lol
-
There have been way too many awesome bands releasing great albums this year. Still a lot I need to listen to, but alas, only so many hours in a day...
-
The Megas come out with a new album at some point this year. Based on Mega Man 3, from what I understand.
Of course, I think there's only a handful of people here that know about them.
-
I've been a bit underwhelmed so far. The outstanding so far for me:
Nelson- Lightning Strikes Twice
Magnum- The Visitation
Shakra- back On Track
Whitesnake- Forevermore (Doug Aldritch and Reb Beach are all over this)
Within Temptation
StOrk-ST (2010 but I got it this year. thomas Lang, ahh, what could have been...)
Eden's curse- Trinity
Victory- Don't Talk Science (not 100% sure about the singer but the riffs are great)
-

Well I've heard a few obviously, but...yeah. :P
I just finished listening to Wolverine's Communication Lost for the first time. Wolverine is one of my favourite bands, and I would seriously recommend that everyone on here make an effort to check out their music. Communication Lost, their fourth full-length album, would be a fantastic place to start. Wolverine sets themselves apart from other bands with their subtler and often darker approach to progressive metal and the distinct tone of their phenomenal vocalist.
-
PC, the new STS album is that good? Must hear....will check grooveshark.
-
One of the best ever! Dream Theater, Symphony X, Devin Townsend, Opeth are leading the way. Other albums I'm excited for/were excited for include Power metal such as Hammerfall, Stratovarius and Rhapsody of Fire. Great year!
-
Albums that I have to check out still (and will do tomorrow hopefully) include:
Jakszyk, Fripp and Collins - A Scarcity of Miracles
Steven Hackett - Live Rails
Death Cab For Cutie - Codes and Keys
My Morning Jacket - Circuital
The Decemberists - The King is Dead (Spun today, it was great! Gotta listen to it more though)
Ulver - War of the Roses
Explosions in the Sky - Take Care, Take Care, Take Care

You know, I was quite disappointed with The Visitation. Moonking was such a great album, I just couldn't get into The Visitation. I may give it a spin again. Still waiting on Eden's Curse and I totally forgot about Whitesnake, great record, so much better than Good to Be Bad.
-
This year owns, and I haven't even listened to half the stuff you guys are freaking out over.

I haven't, no. Of Wolverine's three albums, Still was always my favourite, but I could definitely see CL overtaking it. While still maintaining their trademark subtlety, the music on the album is longer, more technical, and more powerful. It's a very natural progression considering it's been five years since Still.

Sorry dude. It may grow on me, but after two listens I don't find it all that exciting, which is quite disappointing after their first album was excellent, as were DFD's last two or three.

Nevermore split up.

It's definitely a grower of an album. The only song I can't really get into is Stronger than Weak.
Also, die in a hole.

2011: great year for music, or best year ever?
It could be the best ever, or at least in a long time, but 2009 was pretty strong too. My big 3, The Whirlwind, Black Clouds, and Snowfall, were just amazing, and Lacuna Coil's album was a slow grower that I absolutely loved by the end of the year. Add to that releases from Queensryche, Megadeth, Epica, Leaves Eyes, and Flyleaf. There were other good ones as well. Yeah, that was a good year.
-
Personally I hold 2007 as my favorite, it's really hard to beat the trio of Frames, In Rainbows and Fear of a Blank Planet. :hat
-
2003 was the best. Frengers, In Keeping Secrets, A Natural Disaster, and Effloresce.
-
Sorry dude. It may grow on me, but after two listens I don't find it all that exciting, which is quite disappointing after their first album was excellent, as were DFD's last two or three.
I WANT MY CAKE AND EAT IT TOO WITH MILK AND BLOOD AND A PIECE OF YOU
-
2006: Adultery, Nocturne, Free, Kezia, Death of a Dead Day, Drawing Circles, In a Flesh Aquarium and other good stuff.
-

MY GOD IS BETTER THAN YOUR GOD, LET'S START A WAR

awesome. i gotz that polkadot song playing right now! :metal
disappointment #1: how far i had to scroll down the first page before i noticed scurrilous get mentioned.
disappointment #2: scurrilous getting a 5/19 rating...that's, like, a 2.6/10!
but ya, as for this being the greatest year in the history of music - i fully expect so. at least it was my prediction circa the start of the year, and so far it's living up to the billing.
-

Hah, my bad, 0 and 9 are right next to each other on the keyboard and I've had a few to drink. But I'm not a fan of Protest the Hero in the first place, so I didn't care for it a whole lot.
-
hehe, ya i knew what you meant; thought i could be mildly humorous.
-
Well I doubt this year could top 1986/88 but it may be in the top 5 ever for me :)
-
Sylosis - Edge of the Earth
I didn't realize this was out yet :omg:
-
Surprised this thread has gone so far without a single mention of the new Manchester Orchestra album. It's pretty swell.
-
I am loving Enbound's And She Says Gold. Great album!
-
It's been good so far. There's been a couple of rather disappointing albums but also many great ones, not to mention the ones that I've not listened yet.
My top 10 at the moment:
1. Moonsorrow - Varjoina kuljemme kuolleiden maassa
2. Cunninlynguists - Oneirology
3. Boris - New Album
4. Earth - Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1
5. Lykke Li - Wounded Rhymes
6. Bruce Lamont - Feral Songs for the Epic Decline
7. Ash Borer - Ash Borer
8. Alkalys - A Pack of Lies
9. Boris - Heavy Rocks
10. Disasterpeace - Rise of the Obsidian Interstellar
-
I've been pretty underwhelmed so far actually. The only albums that have really impressed me so far this year have been:
Unexpect - Fables of the Sleepless Empire
Polkadot Cadaver - Sex Offender
The Human Abstract - Digital Veil (and this is not aging all that well)
Other Albums:
Ulver - War of the Roses - Pretty good, but I really don't like Norwegian Gothic and (I know I'm gonna get flame raped for this) Stone Angels
Eisley - The Valley - Meh
Thomas Giles - Pulse - Meh
Foo Fighters - Wasting Light - Good, but not amazing
Beardfish - Mammoth - Needs more listens, but right now, only pretty good
Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues - Needs more listens
Between the Buried and Me - The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues - So far only Specular Reflections blows me away, but I need to listen to this more
Jakszyk, Fripp and Collins - A Scarcity of Miracles - Needs more listens
-
Yep I think 2011 is the #1 year for music IMO, PT11 would make it so much better but I can wait ^^

Maybe, but perhaps the 3 year break they're having from the previous album should give them time to refresh their creative senses and bring out something truly inspiring again. Maybe the members are occasionally coming up with some little ideas which might develop into something big next year...
-
Yeah, hopefully that's the case.
I really want something that feels 'new' on the next album, even though most of their albums has offered various new elements, I felt like The Incident was more of a 'best parts of all our elements combined', which is really no bashing against the quality, seeing as it was a great album.
I really love it how SW has turned me onto a lot of 'odd' genres that I wasn't very interested in before hearing him incorporate it into his music, so it's always fun hearing something new.
-
You guys act like The Incident wasn't yet another great album.
-
Not at all, but it's kinda normal to expect something mindblowing from SW these days, he may as well write an album that doesn't 'click' for people.
Again, I don't really think so, but it could happen obviously.
-
You guys act like The Incident wasn't yet another great album.
Because it wasn't.

What the fuck?
How'd you get a picture of me?
-
It's pretty awesome seeing so many people on here listing Polkadot Cadaver.
-
Its a great album besides "Stronger Than Weak." The last one is kinda "meh" until "Bring Me the Head of Andy Warhol," IMO. So this album is definitely stronger.
-
What?! You don't like "A Wolf in Jesus Skin", "Purgatory Dance Party" or "Long Strange Trip to Paradise"?
-
They're just okay right now. Nothing amazing like "Slaughterhouse Striptease." Of course, I've only listened to the first one twice now...
-
Listen to it more.
-
Chloroform Girl is the most elegant piece of poetry ever conceived.

Love those songs, that whole album is great.
-
Guys, hold the phone. Sarah Fimm's new album just blew away everything. EVERYTHING.
-
The new Her Name is Calla EP kicked the ass of every other album this year, which is quite a feat considering it is only 3 songs. It's amazing.
-
PC, the new STS album is that good? Must hear....will check grooveshark.
Geez PC answer me what are you banned or something gosh

Eisley - The Valley
Dredg - Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy
And there's still a load of great new music to come. Of course, when Emilie releases her new album, everything else will pale in comparison.
-
I also want to mention Petter Carlsen - Clocks don't Count. Know that almost no-one here listens to him, but it's a great album worth mentioning.

I actually just downloaded that album, because I've seen you mentioning him in the past.
I'm not sure when I'll get time to listen, but I will! :)

-
Oh sweet, the new Petter Carlsen is on Spotify! :D
-
Guys don't forget Skrillex's new EP, More Monsters & Nice Sprites. Can't wait for it.
-
I listened to Deconstruction yesterday and it was really good but I'm listening to Ghosts right now and it is absolutely blowing me away. This is likely going to jump right up to the top spot as my favourite release so far this year.
-
Although there are still several 2011 albums out that I have yet to listen to, here's my running list so far:
1) Devin Townsend - Ghost
2) Wolverine - Communication Lost
3) TesseracT - One
4) Caligula's Horse - Moments from Ephemeral City
5) Symphony X - Iconoclast
6) Protest the Hero - Scurrilous
7) Devin Townsend - Deconstruction
8) Thomas Giles - Pulse
9) dredg - Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy
10) Long Distance Calling - Long Distance Calling

global, you forgot to put btbam on yo list!
Haven't heard it yet but probably wouldn't have included it anyway seeing as it's an EP.

1. Thundersword
2. Bon Iver
3. Antlers
Bon Iver's latest album is fantastic but Thundersword is once again on a level of its own. They almost surpass music and make something even greater than that.
-
The Color Spectrum is better than anything you can think of.
-
For me, the best albums this year is
1) The Strokes - Angles
2) Neal Morse - Testimony 2
3)TV on the Radio - Nine Types of Light
I'm not really that open minded when it comes to music, when i first get an album, I'll listen to it hundreds of times!
-
I stand by Bon Iver as #1 so far.
Based on the 11 track sampler for Color Spectrum, it's nowhere near AOTY quality imo.
-

Have to add my latest acquisition to the list.
The new Night Ranger is awesome. It rocks more than NR did before but the songs are great stuff.
And the Tony Macalpine ST is very good.

I'm looking forward to 3 albums in particular in the next few months: Thrice, Dir en grey and Opeth.

Me too, a list like Zantera's would be pretty overwhelming for me. Every time I listen to something new I like to listen to it at least a couple times before I move onto something else. Plus I never stop listening to things I've already discovered. Finding the time to listen to that much new material and my existing favorites would be hard to do.

Yeah, I mean, I could potentially listen to that much music, but then I would be listening for the sake of listening, not for the enjoyment. I would feel like having to hit a quota. I am very content to listen to fewer bands and maybe not even their entire discography, and still feel musically fulfilled.
I love Frost*, but that love is only based on one album. DT is my favorite but I never listen to WDADU or SFAM (except 3 songs), and barely SC. Many more artists, if not all of them meet this criteria. I love music, not knowing every band.
Not a knock to anyone here. Y'all probably have more time/opportunity/different listening habits than me...this is just how I feel about it.

THIS THIS THIS THIS
You said it so perfectly. I love finding new music, but I simply can't do it nearly as much as you guys. It takes me a few listens for something to really sink in with me, and I will usually play it quite a bit before I move onto something else. And if its a new band I tend to go through their discography slowly, giving a lot of time and attention to each album.

Anvil's new album, "Juggernaut of Justice" was awesome as well. It proves that "Heavy Metal" in its purest form is still around, and still awesome.
-
I probably wont have time checking out all the ones I listed, because I want to give an album at least 3-4 spins before forming some sort of opinion.
I also listen to a lot of older stuff/stuff I already know and like, so I don't have a lot of time to spend on new releases.
-
Forgot an album.

A couple of new albums I've listened to lately:
*Bon Iver - Bon Iver
Really good album, that has grown on me a lot.
However, for some reason I just hate Beth/Rest, and I think it's an awful song.
For that, I could only give the album 8/10 or so.
Favorite song: Calgary
*Sarah Fimm - Near Infinite Possibility
Another really good album, grows with each listen.
A lot heavier/more rock-ish then I had expected, but the album has some nice variety throughout.
Would probably give this a 8,5 or 9/10.
Favorite songs: Invisible Satellites, Flames, Morning Time
*Her Name is Calla - Maw
Really great EP, unique sound and better then I could imagine.
Needs a few more spins.
Until then, 8,5/10
Favorite song: Dreamland
*Riverside - Memories In My Head
Another solid EP, sounds more like the bands earlier albums.
Not as many heavy parts as I would've though, but still a very solid release.
8,5/10
Favorite song: Living In the Past

Yeah, this was one of my points in brotherH's thread a week or so ago. I can't really give all those albums an equal, fair chance to steal my heart. I can give some of them a chance, but its difficult to swallow all that at once.

What a great record, very atmosperic but with strong melodies and overall great songwriting. The vocals were great, but i actually thougth it was a woman singing at first :lol.
Also, i'm almost certain Vincent(Anathema) sang on "Built To Last", but i couldn't find any info about it.
-
Clock's Don't Count is an amazing album, definitely one of my favourites of the year. His first was really nice, but CDC took the gorgeous melodies and made it exciting. Fantastic stuff!

Not with the competition they have, and honestly.. I don't care much for any of them, except for Bon Iver perhaps, though the closing song is rather bland.

WU LYF's Go Tell Fire To the Mountain is definitely in my top 3 of the year, possibly top 1. Highly recommended for all fans of indie in general and Joy Division. Oh, and Sigur Ros.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe there's 9 other songs on the album. Also, I don't find Beth/Rest bland at all.

I downloaded this but still haven't listened yet. I'll get right on that.
-
PTH, The Decemberists, and Bon Iver near the bottom = fail.

Beth/Rest = bland?!? My heart hurts.
-
Yeah, I love Beth/Rest, and the rest of the album. Perth is one of my favourite tracks of year, as well.
-
The new Decemberists is really really good. And Sigur Ros are releasing something soon??
-
I believe I read somewhere that Sigur Rós would be releasing something late this year or early next year.
-
After listening to some samples from Bjork's upcoming album, I have very high expectations.
-

If that was addressed to me, sorry, I unclearly said that if you liked Sigur Ros you might like WU LYF. Sorry for getting people's hopes up. :lol
-
LOL my bad! :P
-
Recommended to fans of Joy Division? Interest piqued.
-
It's really hard to rank them... I only know that Unexpect is my AOTY so far.
-

They're one of my favorite bands, as is New Order. You a fan, Bosk?
-
The guitar work on WU LYF's album is so, so Joy Division-y.

Listening to So Hideous, My Love's debut album To Clasp a Fallen Wish with Broken Fingers: https://playtheassassin.bandcamp.com/album/so-hideous-my-love-to-clasp-a-fallen-wish-with-broken-fingers
Holy fucking shit.
Wow.
-
Also, i'm almost certain Vincent(Anathema) sang on "Built To Last", but i couldn't find any info about it.
He did.
Also glad he is getting some recognition here (Petter) :D.
-
I've only bought one album so far this year, and ordered another. I think it'll be three or four in the end, not that much good stuff these days for someone into the more groovy side of music. Ole Børud, Lenny Kravitz and DT are three, Opeth may be a potentional fourth. That's pretty much it, unless there's something coming out that I haven't noticed.
-
Rankings so far, excluding albums that I really didn't like, like the new EITS, PTH, BTBAM, etc:
Devin Townsend - Deconstruction
Eisley - The Valley
Grayceon - All We Destroy
VA - Trance Nation mixed by Andy Moor
Unexpect - Fables...
Fair to Midland - Arrows and Anchors
So Hideous, My Love - clasping Broken Fingers
VA - A State of Trance 500
The Human Abstract - Digital Veil
Polkadot Cadaver - Sex Offender
Ulver- War of the Roses
The Dear Hunter - The Color Spectrum
Battles - Gloss Drop
Blackfield - Welcome to My DNA
Cunnilinguists - Oneirology
The Decemberists - The King is Dead
We Made God - It's Getting Colder
Sun Glitters - Everything Could be Fine
Venetian Snares - Cubist Reggae
Ponytail - Do Whatever You Want All the Time
Touche Amore - Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me
Devin Townsend - Ghost
Rolo Tomassi - Eternal Youth
Siriusmo - Mosaik
Windmills By the Ocean - II
This Will Destroy You - Tunnel Blanket
Thomas Giles - Pulse
I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting, but whatevs.
-
Awesome list there, Sigz! :tup
Unexpect seems pretty high on most people lists from what I've read so far. :yarr
-
So I pretty much only acquire my music through legit means, and since I am a poor man I think the only albums I've gotten this year that were new this year are:
Adele- 21
Bright Eyes- The People's Key
My Morning Jacket- Circuital
Radiohead- The King of Limbs
Stunning list, I know. There might be more but I that's all I can think of off the top of my head at the moment.
Anyway, at the top of my list of things that have already come out that are must have are The Color Spectrum, Deconstruction & Ghost and the new Fair to Midland. I was also looking forward to grabbing the new BTBAM and Protest the Hero albums once I had some extra cash, as they're two of my favorite modern metal bands, but I'm hearing mixed things. Are they not worth picking up?
-
New BTBAM is great, get it.
As for PtH, it's not bad, but it does not (IMO) stick out as being a REALLY good album or anything, solid all the way through, but I can't get into the singing, it's just... meh.
I have not heard Kezia or Fortress though, so can't compare it to their earlier work.
Scurrilous is solid, but not really a top30 album of 2011 this far, and this is only the first half. :P
-
Cool man, thanks for the input! :tup
-
Just compiled my personal top40 from the first half of 2011:

Blackfield-Welcome to my DNA
My Morning Jacket-Circuital
Scale the Summit-The Collective
dredg-Chuckles & Mr. Squeezy
Haven't listened to the new Bon Iver enough to offer my thoughts on it.
Man, can't wait for September when DT, Opeth, Thrice, Mastodon, 3, and Steven Wilson are released. Also holding out hope that what Rush said turns out to be true and we'll see Clockwork Angels by year's end.
-
September will be the best month ever in the history of music:
*Steven Wilson
*Opeth
*Björk
*Anathema
*Pain of Salvation
*Thrice
-
My top 3 of the year are, at the minute:
WU LYF - Go Tell Fire To The Mountain
Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
Bon Iver - Bon Iver, Bon Iver
And I can't choose between them.
-
Just listened to the new albums by The Lonely Island, Symphony X, and Arctic Monkeys. Pretty disappointed by all 3 of them.
Couple those with dredg, Rise Against, and to some extent, Lady Gaga, and I'm feeling very underwhelmed by a bunch of the releases so far this year.
Only Protest the Hero, Scale the Summit, Foo Fighters, and Devin Townsend have really impressed me so far.
-
