Trust me, this will kick your ass! Heavy 8-string stuff with lots of melody, an awesome singer and great songs!
https://soundcloud.com/sha...d-skies-reanimation-ep
My favorite track is the last one, This Is What We Built. But they're all good, really!
Since there is a download limit on the Soundcloud site, the band has made the EP available via MediaFire:
https://www.mediafire.com/?38s6dj2s3f7noq3
Enjoy!
-
Downloaded and currently listening. Kinda makes me think ballsier Seventh Wonder. Definitely correct though when you said lots of melody. I originally was expecting something like a generic Meshuggah clone with some forced melody to placate the non-djenters out there but instead it's the opposite. Primarily melodic music with heaviness thrown in for color at well-placed moments.
-
Delusions is a great song, def my favorite of the EP. Good stuff :metal
-
I really really like this.
-
I downloaded it expecting a lot from the awesome replies here and I was majorly disappointed. :yeahright
-
Hey thanks for the rec! It sounds like djent with choruses fit for stadiums!
-
Downloading now, will report back when I get a chance to listen.

Okay, thank you so much for sharing, this album was absolutely brilliant!
-
I'm glad Shattered Skies finally made it over here. Great band!
-
Downloaded this at the tail end of my lurking days here, loved it. I like the blend of melody and crunchy guitars, good stuff.

Welcome aboard! Hope these past 5 1/2 hours have been everything you'd dreamed it'd be :P How long were you a lurker before finally signing up?

Found the board, oh, I dunno-around the time of the first Progressive Nation tour. Didn't really start lurking until MP left DT last year, though.
-
Given the EP two spins so far. I dig it, though it isn't quite mind-blowingly awesome.
-
Interesting. Sort of like mashing Meshuggah, Gojira and Dream Theater into one record. Lots of things going on, but I miss a breather in there. Might just be a little too many things going on at the same time sometimes. But it was interesting, I mostly liked the riffs and it might grow on me over time. And I do think they handled the 8-string guitars very nicely.
-
Hey guys, guitarist/keyboardist for Shattered Skies here!
Thanks for making this thread Kyo, and thanks for the feedback! Glad people are enjoying it :)
This EP was basically just a complilation of a bunch of songs written between 2008 and early 2011, so people could get an idea of the band with a good chunk of free samples! So yeah it's a fairly full-on EP with not much of a 'breather' alright. When we make our first official album, pacing will be a huge factor! I'm glad people have noticed we're not just some generic band trying to ride the 'djent' wave, that's just one of many elements of our sound which is mostly dominated by (hopefully) good songwriting and catchy melodies!
We're stoked to be sharing the stage with Mnemic, Textures, TesseracT, Monuments, Sybreed, Vildhjarta, Chimp Spanner and more at Euroblast in Koln, Germany in 2 weeks time! To celebrate that, we'll be posting a brand new song online in the next week or so, which will receive its live debut at Euroblast! It'll be streaming at our Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/shatteredskiesband
Thanks again, and I'll more than likely be flying to London next year to catch Dream Theater & Periphery, which will be my 4th time seeing DT! Can't wait!
Here's a picture of me with some guy as this is my first post on this forum:

Cheers!
-
I'll listen after I'm done with Thrice. I hope I am all like (https://www.fiveeightforums.com/data/avatars/l/1/1101.jpg?1296415049)
-
Oh, a download link, I missed that. Downloading now!
-
We have to follow Thrice? That's gonna be some tough competition, they're beyond incredible
Oh well, hopefully you enjoy it :P
-
Eh, from what I've sampled from Thrice, (not very much) you guys sound better.
-
Jesus, the beginning of Beneath the Waves is great.
Edit: And that part after what I presume is the first verse. Production sounds good to me as well.
Edit 2: Eh, from what I've sampled from Thrice, (not very much) you guys sound better.
Not surprising to me, you wouldn't strike me as a Thrice fan and this music would seem up your alley.
-
It is right up my alley. I've listened to the EP a bunch already.
I knew about Shattered Skies before it was cool maaaaaaaaan.
-
We're cool now? That can't be right
Thanks again for the kind words guys
-
Hey guys, we have a brand new track online! Check it out!
https://soundcloud.com/shattered-skies/as-the-sea-divides
-
The song was alright, but it kinda sounded like the other songs. Also, the vocals are mixed too low. Also, I don't like that djent tone. Also, make an album already.
-
thanks I think
-
Don't go all Mike Portnoy on me now. I only listened once, and I thought it was alright. Sincerely, ZookDICK
-
So I just finished listening to the EP and its is awesome. A very cool band indeed. Thank you so much for bringing them to my attention.
-
Just to let folks know, we're releasing a new EP called Pianomation on February 13th 2012! It features our single 'As the Sea Divides', and also 3 tracks from the Reanimation EP re-arranged for piano and voice, done by myself and Sean respectively.
Tracklisting:
As the Sea Divides
Beneath the Waves (piano & voice arrangement)
Attrition (piano & voice arrangement)

-
That white shirt looks amazing, could do without the black text though.
-
I was just listening to the EP yesterday. I am repeatedly blown away by that album. Solid from beginning to end and the guitar work is phenomenal. :metal

If we do drop the price (which I think we will) we'll refund the difference to anyone who ordered before the change, it's a simple procedure with bigcartel.
and thanks so much!
-
Cool. Yeah, it's funny because I swear I heard some of your songs before, but don't,know where
-
Our new EP is out now guys! Check it out

Cool stuff!
Man I've been listening your band over like 6 months now and never knew that your were from the 5/8 forums too or in other words the whole band is from 5/8. I found you guys on Facebook and I think you are the one that makes most of the updates there too. Sorry I'm going on but what a small world lol and I just kinda put everything together. Wish you guys the best success
-
Thanks a lot man! :)
Here's another new vid, a short clip of some new vocals we've been demoing:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRENRMSj1Yw
new songs coming soon!!!!
-
Here's a guitar playthrough of our song 'Beneath the Waves':
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvhKBSLuZto
-
Pretty happy to announce we're playing the Bloodstock festival in England this August! Other bands on the bill include:
Alice Cooper, Machine Head, Behemoth, Testament, Seputura, The Black Dahlia Murder, Nile, Dimmu Borgir, Iced Earth, and many more! Can't fucking wait, this is huge!
Also we have a new song called Saviours coming out in the next couple of weeks, stay tuned.
-
Whenever you get the chance, could you re-upload the slap guitar thing with better volume? I could get the jist of it but hearing the sound of the attack over the amplifier coupled with the low recording volume made it a little hard to fully abosrb it. Seems pretty good though.
-
I got my shirt and physical copy of the EP, It came a bit scratched but not enough to not listen to it.
-
Hey guys we have a BRAND NEW SONG & VIDEO online now called 'Saviours' :D
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8mMvjonyeo
-
DAMN :eek
That is killer :hefdaddy
-
Holy shit. Expect me in the audience at ProgPower Europe :)
-
That's a great new song. It seems VERY different to Reanimation. I could actually see that being a really popular song - only hope lots of people get to hear it. Impressive playing as expected, and the vocals sound great.
-
Thanks a lot guys :D
-
So when you guys release your first album, will it have the songs from Reanimation and Saviours, or will it be all new stuff?
-
Listening to Soundcloud songs now...good stuff! :tup
-
Hey guys we have a BRAND NEW SONG & VIDEO online now called 'Saviours' :D
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8mMvjonyeo
Incredible as always. :metal
-
Thanks so much guys :D you can now download the song (and see the lyrics) in any format here: https://shatteredskies.bandcamp.com/track/saviours
Also when we release our debut album it'll be all or mostly new stuff. At most it might have 'Saviours' and the other song 'As the Sea Divides' we released recently on it, maybe not though cos we have more than an album's worth of new material in the works.
The Reanimation EP is a standalone release though, none of that will be on the album, it'll be 90% new stuff at the very least :)
-
I think it's worth mentioning that your vocalist has really come a long way since the EP. I can really hear the confidence coming through. Will buy the CD on release day or pre-order if possible. :tup
-
Definitely, he'd just joined when we recorded the EP and had never sang in a metal band before, his confidence in delivery is just great now.
Thanks a lot dude :)
-
Nice. Glad I bought a physical copy of the EP. Also, your vocalist sounds amazing now he's more relaxed.
-
new song kinda reminds me of John Browne and Monuments. i like it
-

Hey guys, just to let you know we have a BRAND NEW SONG & VIDEO from our upcoming album coming out next month, in the meantimes don't forget to check out our latest song Saviours! :D
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8mMvjonyeo
-
That song was fucking sick. Love the slap guitar verses, and you guys can write a really great chorus. When's the album due out?
-
Thanks man! We're recording it at the moment (Dan Tompkins is producing the vocals and doing a guest spot :D) and we hope to have it out mid next year, but in the meantime some new songs from it will be coming out in due course, including a new one next month!
-
Holy glob! I love you guys, to think you post here!
The Reanimation EP is one of my favorite releases of 2011, and Beneath the Waves is one of the best songs ever :metal
-
Wow thanks a lot! That's awesome to hear :)
-
Great to see this here! I got this a while ago and have been playing it quite a lot. That new song sounds awesome! :metal
-
Thanks a lot! I'll be sure to post the new song/video here as soon as it's done :)

-
Don't have time to check out now, but will do later in the day. Your reanimation EP was awesome and the first new song was also great. Can't wait. Cheers!
B.Lee
EDIT : Hey, Rocket, did you change your bass player?
-
Thanks a lot! Yeah Jim Hughes (also live rhythm guitarist for Chimp Spanner) is our full time bassist now!
-
Speaking of which, here's a bass playthrough from said new bassist! His first playthrough for us!
www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-LJ77JLVcU
-
Damn it Beavis, release your album already!
-
We're working on it! We went through some personal difficulties last year which delayed the album's completion a lot, and now we're talking to some labels and figuring out the best strategy for releasing the album. We've put blood, sweat and tears in to this album and been through a lot of shit in 2013, and we're not going to blow it by just throwing the album up online with no build-up. It'll be out in the coming months for sure!

Yes, great news indeed.
-
We're on a roll with the better-late-than-never playthrough videos, so here's a drum playthrough of 'Beneath the Waves'!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0g8Z_miXW4
-
Someone at 5/8 mentioned awhile ago that the drums on Reanimation were programmed. Is this true, cause if so, whoever programmed them is a god at drum programming.
-
Just discovered this thread and holy shit this music awesome. Great job so far and will definitely by an album when you eventually release it :tup
-
Thanks so much :)
Yeah Ross (our drummer) is both a top notch drummer and a qualified sound engineer. He's honed his skills at programming and mixing the drums to sound as accurate as possible to how he actually performs the stuff. I guess what's crucial is, he actually plays the stuff at practise and then programmes the drums to reflect how he actually pulls it off. It's a combination of both myself and him who actually write the drum parts.
He did do live drums on the release of 'Saviours', but everything else is programmed. As soon as we can afford to do live drums on releases though, we will. As you can see from the video he's more than capable!
-
Hey guys, brand new video posted, and our debut album is officially set for release on January 12th, finally! :D
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgCAq9hAhtE
-
Great song, nifty outfits.
-
I've just listened to 'The End and the Rebirth' and although I'm not really a fan of Djent rhythms, I thought that it was very nice. The vocals are great; they kind of remind me of Circus Maximus.
-
New song is ridiculously awesome, and a debut album release date! Good day :D
-
Actually, I'm listening to 'Saviours' right now, and this is quite fantastic. I hope this band gets some more recognition when the debut comes out.

Pre-ordering now. Awesome album art.

Thanks so much guys! :D
-
I don't like Shattered Skies that much, but I had the Internets and a 'like' button, so what the fuck.
Seriously, though, this is really cool stuff and it's so great to hear this style of music WITHOUT growls. I'm so sick of being forced to listen to that hideous growly vocal style whenever I'm trying to get into the instrumental style that you guys play. And you don't just chunk on the low-end which, again, so many of these genre tend to do.
I'll subscribe and keep checking you out, I don't like to make snap decisions, but I'm enjoying what I've heard so far.
-
I'm so sick of being forced to listen to that hideous growly vocal style whenever I'm trying to get into the instrumental style that you guys play.
::) ::) ::)
Nobody's forcing you to do anything, and there's plenty of music in this style that doesn't have the growls that you seem to not like.
-
Nobody's forcing you to do anything, and there's plenty of music in this style that doesn't have the growls that you seem to not like.
Right. Just like nobody is forcing me to play the classically stupid "let's derail the thread and start a flamewar by dissecting someones' post and taking it all literally" forum game that you seem to want to start. I give up. You win. It's over.
Will this album be available on iTunes at some point? It'll end up costing me about $25 (probably more once customs tears through it) to order a physical copy since our Canadian dollar is so crap right now.
-
Calm down there buddy, that's not even close to trying to start a flamewar.
-
I'm not your Buddy, Pal.
-
Yup, as of release day next Monday it'll be on iTunes, Bandcamp, Spotify, all that good stuff!
-

Great, count me in, and good luck to you guys, just please no re-release 2 weeks later with bonus tracks.
-
HAPPY RELEASE DAY! The album is officially available to download and stream right here folks, enjoy:
https://shatteredskies.bandcamp.com
-
Cool, I'll check it out since I won't get my physical copy in about a week.
-
Cool, hope you dig it!
-
Great album for sure. Took a few listens. If there is one thing to complain about it's that the singer gets drowned out quite a few times.
Also, all the riffs are the same in every song and you guys are Dream Theater wannabes. Can I order this at my local record store or do I have to buy through bandcamp?
-
First listen now, liking it so far :metal
-
This album is fucking spectacular.
-
Only two songs struck the right balance with me - The End and the Rebirth and Aesthetics are both top notch , but the rest I found the guitar sound/style overbearing and a bit monotonous. I'm not on top of the whole djent terminology but I assume that's the style here - doesn't appeal to me for the most part but the two songs I mentioned have another dimension to them and I really enjoyed them.
-
I love the dentist style and they handle It nicely here, but iI will agree that aesthetics is far and away the top song. Just perfec.
-
Thanks guys, Zook the album can be bought on bandcamp, iTunes, Google Play etc or you can order the CD from https://shatteredskies.bigcartel.com/product/the-world-we-used-to-know
We are definitely unashamed Dream Theater wannabes ;)
-
Been looking forward to this album for a while, great start to the new music year receiving this in the post on release day.
Enjoyt the full album but since people were talking about favourites I just wanted to say Haunted is amazing. Definitely my early favourite (alongside Saviours but I have loved that song since it as forest released).
-

Just finished listening to it. Fantastic stuff.
-
Diggin it! The End And The Rebirth, Haunted and the title track are great!
-
Thanks so much guys, really glad you folks are digging it :)

Lol
Stupid phone.
Finally was able to break myself away from the album, briefly. Got a good feeling this one will earn a permanent spot in my weekly playlist. The final four songs are just brilliantly delivered.
-
Hey UK folks, first leg of our tour kicks off tomorrow, hope some of you might be able to make it!

-
Still to far from San Francisco. Keep trying. :p
-
Yes! Finally some djent without harsh vocals besides Tesseract. Just read about these guys in Prog magazine. Can't wait to listen to more of this album. Just checked out a couple songs on youtube so far.
-
My favorite song is Beneath the Waves.
-
Just heard your new stuff on Bandcamp. Pretty good.
-
New track of their upcoming album released with the new singer. I honestly think I like this guys voice better than the previous one, seems to have more dynamics and potential. Eagerly awaiting the album in full...

Sup bro...already got it and given it a few spins. Just frikkin ridiculous man...very nice work!!! Digging the new vocalist for sure!!
-
Thanks dude! That's awesome to hear, we're relieved people are digging the new singer, always a difficult change to make!
-
Shattered Skies were amazing before the lineup changes.
-
Cool mate, thanks for resurrecting a year old thread solely to let us know ;D
-
It's your fault, Schaffer because of the lineup changes, and you're such an asshole.
-
Didn't mean it to come out that way. You guys are still great. i just preferred the sound of the vocalist before he left, it made it sounded different. I'll still jam out your set at ProgPower.
-
:lol
BTW Ian, congrats on getting to Prog Power, still a bit too far of a trip for me, but a good deal of friends will be there. Be sure to melt their faces bro.
-
Thanks dude :tup
