I feel that they have a similar outro (possibly the same time signature), especially the keyboard part. Scarred has a quicker tempo though.
Thoughts? I know Awake has many similar parts.
???
They have a similar keyboard patch, that's it.
they're both completely different..
"Space-Dye Vest" is one of the best DT songs ever. It's no surprise that "Scarred" is trying to ride its coat tails! ::)
Just kidding. I don't really hear a similarity there. But I do love how DT would create similar parts in I&W and Awake, such as the "Wait for Sleep" and "Learning to Live" similarity, and "The Mirror" and "SDV." It gives the albums more of a cohesive feel, as opposed to just a collection of songs.
the entire outro of SDV is in 4/4. scarred has 4 bars of 4/4 and then one of 5/4. the rhythm patterns are completely different as well, so no, i don't see any real similarities.
They have a similar feel, I also thought this when I last listened to SDV.
Nah.

Nah.
Two of Aniland's last four forum posts have been "nah."
Do I see a nah trend? Yah!
No.
The only way I can see them being similar is that both have an 'end of album' feel to them, which is part of why I usually think of Awake as being a ten song Dream Theater album with a Kevin Moore coda rather than an eleven song album. That's as far as I see a similarity stretching.

On the contrary even with those reprises i think I&W and awake feel more like a collection of songs then any of their other albums.
