.. was Neal Morse converting to Christianity.
I've been deeply immersing myself in all of his Christian Progressive Rock albums over the past few months, and I really can't describe how amazing they are. Neal Morse is a genius in the word's most brilliant sense.
-
repent from the devil and follow the true prophet wilson.
-
Well, this is dumb.
-
Not a fan of his Christian albums at all tbh.

He's definitely a genius, capable of creating some of the most gorgeous melodies ever :tup
-
I've actually only listened to Sola Scriptura... but prior to Testimony 2 I think I'll have to give this man a visit... haha
-
I wouldn't go that far, but Neal is definitely a super talented guy who has written some great music, with Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, and on his own.
-
Neal Spock's Beard >>>>>> Neal solo.
Besides, the greatest event in prog history was the formation of Rush, followed by the birth of Steven Wilson, and then followed by the birth of Claudio Sanchez.
-
and then followed by the birth of Claudio Sanchez.
lol

FTFM
Don't get me wrong, I like Coheed.. but :lol :lol :lol

This whole discussion is "lol". This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.

We can of course never know if his music after becoming a born-again in 2002 would be as good as it has been, but I strongly believe he has found a lot of inspiration in his faith. Now I'm not religious in any way, but I actually find the Christian lyrics very fitting. I mean, what's more epic than a prog album with lyrics about the creation of the world and God's relationship with man? His lyrics in general are far from preachy and clichéd like so many Christian bands. We have Testimony, concerning Neal's conversion, One, which is the genesis story, and Sola Scriptura, a concept album about the life of Martin Luther (which is one of the most original concept ideas I can think of). I guess Lifeline is the most generic Christian Rock album, not being a concept album like the rest of them. But then it has So Many Roads, which has become my all time favorite song.

I guess you missed my John Petrucci's snails thread then? :lol
-
The biggest event was the Hammond organ which in 1934 was made and mostly used in churches. Thank god (pun intended) that Jazz and theorigins of Prog rock picked up on this great instrument.

This.

This. And Mellotron.
-
Just to contribute to this thread, the greatest event in prog history is the formation of King Crimson.
-
King Crimson sucks and so do you.
-
i think that the most important event of prog histery was when images and words came out
i mean, their was prog before that but it wasnt very good, dt brought the Metal! :metal :metal :metal
-
Dream Theater wasn't the first prog metal band, you know...
-

Couldn't agree more.
-
The most important event in prog was the release of ITCOTCK
-
Neal's stuff is great, but I wouldn't call any of his albums "masterpieces", ya know? They are just very fun to listen to. Except Testimony, that's probably a masterpiece.
Maybe I'm still pining about how horrible Lifeline was. Wow, what an awful album.
-

You are the worst person.
Although I know it's usually people's last ranked album for his solo-prog stuff.
Still, I understand the sentiment of the OP...but I would say, rather, that is the best event in Neal Morse's prog contributions. His solo stuff slays SB and TA, IMHO. Then again, I am a NM fanboy, so...
-
I think Transatlantic is the best Neal Morse related project.
-
The single most important event of prog history is of course the formation of Porcupine Tree.
Also, loldiscussion

I would say this, but PT was influenced by KC and PF heavily, so it has to be them.
-
King Crimson is awesome and I think farm animals are sexy.
Fixed it for trooth.
-
Well, this is dumb.
-
You're all wrong. The most important event occurred 8/29/84, for on that date I was born. I would go on to listen to prog rock, and thus legitimize it as an art form.
-
I think Transatlantic is the best Neal Morse related project.
Same here, and I don't think it's close. Honestly, while Neal has a handful of great records with Spock's Beard and on his own (and many more that range from good to very good), the three Transatlantic records are by far the best three records he has been involved with, IMO.
-

-
Actually you all are wrong. The most important event is this:
-
The most important event would be In The Court of the Crimson King... but yeah, Close to the Edge is probably in the top 5 events.
-
Rush.
-
ITCOTCK came out before Rush's eponymous debut, which wasn't even really prog. So give it even a few more years before they really made a splash in the prog world.
-
I don't know what the most important event in the history of prog is, but I know it has nothing to do with Steven Wilson.
Honestly I can't really see a spike or drop in the quality of Neal Morse's stuff post-conversion. It's about the same with the exception of the lyrical content. If anything, I prefer Transatlantic and Spock's Beard to his solo stuff for the most part.
And LOL @ BrotherH. Testimony is by far the worst Neal Morse solo album.

You failed more than once in that post. Just so you know.

I don't know the meaning of the word "fail".

I counted four fails.
-
It will be the drummer announcement.
:jamaritard:
-
Roy Khan just found Jesus. He and Morse should form a band. THAT will be amazing.
-
Krautrock.

July 12, 1967 - John Peter Petrucci was welcomed to this world

Not sure if I agree, but definitely the best answer posted so far :tup

It was important indeed, but not the single most important thing. I can't think of many other events as I'm not that knowledgeable in the history of 'progressive' music.

May 26, 1967 - Kevin Moore punched his way out of his mother's uterus
-
^Blows my mind that I share a birthday with KevMo.
And her uterus will never be open again.

Excellent.
