I think this video really captures the rebel spirit of Jimi Hendrix, and how he was all about changing things up and stirring the pot.
Look out for these moments of pure win.
:08 The "WTF was that?" look on the prim and proper TV show hostess as some feedback escapes... it's funny (and ironic) how eager she is to hear the "hit song"
:25 That wonderfully orchestrated feedback/jam lasts almost a whole minute, which is an eternity on a TV show
1:48 The look on Hendrix' face as he realizes his guitar string has gone waaay out of tune
2:00 He quotes The Beatles' I Feel Fine
2:22 Jimi "forgets the words" ;)
2:56 They trash their own hit song right smack in the middle, then break out into a searing version of a Cream hit song
3:50 The GTFO look that Jimi gives to the TV crew as they signal him to cut it short
4:10 Mitch Mitchell and Hendrix exchange a quick look to communicate the wind down of the jam
Is it a cliche to say that this video defines the word "cool"? If there are any other vids out there that capture this kind of elan, I'd love to see it!

LV, with a breakdown like that, I think you should take over Indiscipline's thread!

What a fantastic trio of a band. I've said it once, and ill say it again. No has the chops that Mitch Mitchell had on the drums. And Jimi.... amazing. As to this video, it's very good! A lot of interesting shot choices
-
Oh yeah, Mitch Mitchell was fantastic.

Great stuff :tup
Thanks for the timestamps, lol
-
That was great!
-
I lol'd repeatedly, great timestamps and great video!
-
That was an amazing video.
-
I've seen this at least 5 times before. It's still great. Hendrix was one of the few people around that time that didn't give 2 fucks about what people thought of his performances.

That is the word that came to mind when I saw this video, so... :tup

there are a few people on this board ( whom I won't name) who seem to say everytime when Hendrix is mentioned that he was overrated..he wasn't that good...blah..blah...its like videos like this that just reinforce my love for Hendrix and what he brought to music at a time when everyone else was singing about love and such. It was his unique playing, his attitude and the fact that he always surrounded himself with great musicians. Henry Rollins said it best, that Hendrix created more great music in 5 short years than most musicians can hope to achieve in a lifetime

I remember that quote! When/where is it from?

Jimis voice is amazing also... sorta like Phil Lynott, the voice is never appreciated enough

Hendrix put soul into his voice, especially in the later years of his career where in lots of recordings he gets really into it and screams out "HEY!", but puts a bit of a "wh" at the start of that word. Sounds like his own thing he did there. If anyone knows what I'm saying ;)

What else do these guys do besides music? They can't be making that much money to get by, can they?

Oh yeah, Mitch Mitchell was fantastic.
Absolutely. "Fire" alone is a Mitch Mitchell barn burner. Might as well throw your drums out after hearing that one.

Back on topic: I love The Jimi Hendrix Experience's feeling of "tight but loose," like they're always in a jam, but they know where they're going and flow with each other very well.
-
Yep, I think Deep Purple did that too. It's fantastic watching how random a band can be.

i posted this in another thread, don't know why it popped up in here..! sorry guys!

Well, count me into the group who think Hendrix is overrated. I mean, sure, his playing was revolutionary, his approach to music was new ... but I still don't like his singing much, and what bothers me to no end is how out of tune most of his recordings are. Point in case, the OP video. He does all these dive bombs at the beginning of the song, and when he actually breaks into the actual tune, one string is totally out of tune.
As a guitarist, I also have a special animosity against the disciples he created. Guys with skullets who will tell you at any given possible moment that no guitarist since Jimi was as good and that everybody else has no soul.

People that say things like that are morons.
But Jimi is still awesome.
