I made a 3 hour setlist of what it would look like, including something from every album to celebrate their discography. Put in the essential hits and some tunes that are rarely/never heard:
Enter Sandman
Sad But True
Holier Than Thou
The Unforgiven
Wherever I May Roam
Don't Tread On Me
Through The Never
Nothing Else Matters

My Friend Of Misery
The Struggle Within

Bleeding Me
The Unforgiven III
The Day That Never Comes
Master Of Puppets

.....Let me know what you guys think!!

FUCK YOU!!!!!! I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE SPECIAL 10 DATE TOUR AND I ALMOST SHIT MYSELF!!! FUCK YOU SIR!!!!! FUCK YOU!!!
And it needs more Justice.
-
Oh wait that's not real?
Oh. I dunno, I'd rather them get better. I'd prefer a well performed set of whatever, over a semi-ok set of TBA.
But a special 30th anniversary tour would be awesome.
Oh yea, what ever happened those few shows they were going to do with crazy stuff?
And awesome artwork dude!

lol i was hoping it that would be everyone's reaction. as for more justice, i put 2 from every album except for st. anger and death magnetic which got 1 and 3
-
OP is a fucking noob. Oh and he didn't include any more from AJFA.
-
It seems like they'd do Master Of Puppets in it's entirety.
-
It seems like they'd do Master Of Puppets in it's entirety.
They already did.
-
Lars said he'll never play My Friend of Misery live without Jason.
Metallica will never play TBA live, they know that if they were to play an album in it's entirety to their fans; only RTL, MOP & AJFA will be of interest.
That second setlist is just nothing short of awful, selection and order wise.
Just all in all there's nothing that can express how lolwut this idea was, maybe if I had the link to the LOLWUT fruit it would have said it better.

Even I'm a sad panda after reading that.

Never seen the Mexican one before :lol

Was it? it wasn't meant to be at all.

My anniversary set:
For Whom The Bell Tolls

Ride the Lightning
Welcome Home Sanitarium
Sad But True

The Outlaw Torn
Hero of the Day
Battery
All Nightmare Long
Fade to Black
Wherever I May Roam
Nothing Else Matters
---encore---
Enter Sandman
And Justice for All
Seek and Destroy
Master of Puppets
-
Metty is such a nice guy. Did anyone realize that I put TBA because it will be the 20th anniversary of that album?
.....and Purify is in the set cuz its the shortest song on St. Anger, therefore, the least we'll have to hear from it.
-
I think my set is badass.
-
I think my set is badass.
....it's pretty good......ending with MoP, now that's interesting
And I forgot to mention, the 2nd set would change with every date, obviously.
-
73109 I like your setlist but it's over 2 and a half hours, it requires a different drummer and a singer who'd be 5 to 10 year younger and more in shape, Metallica's Death Magnetic tour setlists length has been fixed and steady since 2004, James said to Channel V in Holland that this is the exact amount of songs he can play now before he "runs out of breath".
It seems like I'm being Buzz Killington here but that wasn't my intention at all :lol

The way I look at it though, is while I understand the set is over 3 hours, when I say "break" I mean "a fucking break" Play for an hour and a half, take 45 minutes, and then come back for an hour and 45 minutes. I mean, let the concert start at 7 and end at 11. Also, if there are only 10 dates, I think they can pull off one of those a week. Just do 10 dates in 10 giant stadiums with that set. I actually think it would work.

So? They didn't play Kill 'Em All or Ride the Lightning or ...And Justice for All on their 20th anniversaries, they've only done it with MoP (the reasons for it being more than obvious), why should TBA be any different? Because it's their best selling album? Got a better reason?
I'm not trying to be a dick, but that doesn't seem like a good reason to jump to such a conclusion.
-
I can't imagine they would ever play all of TBA. I imagine that even most fans who got into the band because of the big hits from that album would rather hear a more well-rounded set list, or all of MoP, than all of TBA. Besides, I thought James Hetfield dislikes "Don't Tread on Me" a lot, which makes that one of those songs I can't imagine them ever playing (which sucks, since that song is aces). And who in the world really wants to hear tripe like "Through the Never" or "Holier Than Thou"?

If Hammet would play the lead parts of TTN correctly, I'd love it.

Because it's:
a landmark album
a GREAT album, IMO
a big point in their career
take your pick
-
The only landmark this album has is making a Metallica a mainstream band.
I think it's good, not great because it has a few song I just don't care for.
See my first sentence.
-
Hm. If I were to make a 30th anniversary setlist for the band...
1-12: The Black Album in it's entirety (featuring Jason on MFOM)
==intermission===
13. The Four Horsemen
14. For Whom The Bell Tolls
15. Orion
16. ...And Justice For All
17. Ain't My Bitch
18. Fixxxer
19. Frantic
20. All Nightmare Long
==encore===
21. One
22. Master Of Puppets
23. Seek & Destroy
Now, I don't think the Black Album is their best, but I mean, come on. It's still a good album, and obviously it did something right. There's some damn good music on there, any way you slice it.
-
Why would they play one of their worst albums in its entirety?
If ANYTHING, they should play Ride the Lightning or AJFA, since they've already covered MoP.
-
Why would they play one of their worst albums in its entirety?
Because it's not. It's actually one of their better albums.
-
Wow, I didn't think you people would be that gullible, but I thank you anyway. It shows I know how to make it legit. :)
-

To me it would like this:
The good ones:
1. And Justice For All
2. Master of Puppets
3. Ride the Lightning
The ok:
4. Kill Em All
5. Load
The pile of garbage:
6. Black Album
7. Death Magnetic
8. ReLoad
9. St.Anger
-

I agree.

Your opinion, I have mine. I agree that Kill 'em All and Load are both criminally underrated. That said, I don't particularly care for Ride The Lightning, and would rate every album they did in the 90s above it.
St. Anger..... I've had random St. Anger songs come up on my playlist lately. They're actually quite entertaining :lol
-
Each and every Metallica album has it's appeal to me and it's own mood, St. Anger is my least favorite but fun at times.
Jamariquay long time no see!
-
If ANYTHING, they should play Ride the Lightning or AJFA, since they've already covered MoP.
They'll never play RtL because James absolutely hates Escape and I wouldn't want them to play AJFA because Lars can't play the drums.
-
I think a tour where they play all of Master and some other songs would be fucking awesome.
-
I think a tour where they play all of Master and some other songs would be fucking awesome.
So you want their summer '06 tour again?
-
They actually did all of Master for that tour?
edit: Yes they did. Wow. That seemed pretty cool.
-
They actually did all of Master for that tour?
This is why you fail!
-
Excuse me for not knowing about a band's tour before I knew a bunch of their songs. At that point, I was like :metal NO LEAF CLOVER
Anyway, of all the albums I would like to see in its entirety, it would be AJFA, but they won't do that, so next comes Master. But overall, a set of balanced material would be best. I really want to see Harvie, Justice, Bleeding Me, Roam, Sanitarium, Fade, and Hero before I die.
-
Anyway, of all the albums I would like to see in its entirety, it would be AKFA
WHY WAS I NOT AWARE OF THIS ALBUM?!?!?!
-
AKFA
Another fail. :P
-
:lol
wow
-
ITT: Show off your setlist.
AKFA
Another fail. :P
-
But seriously, back on their Escape from the Studio '06 tour they played all of MoP because of the 20th anniversary of the album, they also debuted The New Song and The Other New Song on this shows.
-
I'm glad James hates Escape, because that song is absolutely... bad.
-
Super epic ultimate set that they would do once a week for that special tour:
For Whom The Bell Tolls
Harvester of Sorrow
Fuel
Stone Cold Crazy
Cyanide
St Anger
One
The Four Horsemen
Ride the Lightning
Welcome Home Sanitarium
Sad But True
Bleeding Me
--break---
Creeping Death
Blackened
King Nothing
Turn the Page
The Memory Remains
The Unforgiven
The Outlaw Torn
Hero of the Day
Battery
All Nightmare Long
Fade to Black
Wherever I May Roam
Nothing Else Matters
---encore---
Enter Sandman
And Justice for All
Seek and Destroy
Master of Puppets
-
That would be epic! Metallica would also die on the spot!
Also, SaD would be last, as it has been for the past 7 years.
-
I know but I don't like the song as a closer. The only reason I have MoP closing is because if Metallica had to play one set that was about them, I would think closing with MoP would be the ultimate song. That is "their" song. On a different, I put SaD on for the first time in close to 7-8 months and it is kicking my ass. :metal

Good set there, I like how you pulled an Opeth with the whole 'going in order' thing. :tup

This is what i would wish for... (note that some "classics" aren't in it, because if they played a set only with classics it wouldn't be different)
First set - And Justice For All (in it's entirety)
1. Blackened
2. And Justice For All
3. Eye of the Beholder
4. One
5. The Shortest Straw
6. Harvester of Sorrow
7. The Frayed Ends of Sanity
8. To Live is to Die
9. Dyers Eve
--short break--
10. Hit the Lights
11. Creeping Death
12. Sanitarium
13. Sad But True
14. The House That Jack Built
15. Devils Dance
16. No Leaf Clover
17. Some Kind of Monster
18. That Was Just Your Life
--encore--
19. Master of Puppets
-
Considering how long the World Magnetic tour has been, I suspect that when it eventually ends they'll spend a few years doing nothing but squandering their gazillions of dollars.

Excellent set. I do wish that they performed all of Justice back in 2008 (20th anniversary of that album), but what can you do. The House Jack Built is actually one of my favorite Load songs.... It'd be very cool if they ever played it live (or hell, any non-single from Load/Reload).
-

Nah they'll be in the studio for a while actually.

If they go to the studio they need a double album again.
-
Well they're always writing. At least James and Lars are. They always jam as well, that's how they come up with their material - and that's how we got Death Magnetic where people accuse that album of being "a bunch of riffs stuck together" which is just bullshit - if you remember the old videos of them jamming before a show, they record every jam of theirs and that's how they had many hours of "riff tapes" to be filed down to what came as Death Magnetic.

Yeah it really is bullshit.....they have a few riffs per song and they arrange them to FORM songs. Not riff soup or anything, there usually is a recurring hook.

Back on topic:
If they were to do a 30th anniversary, some songs would be expected, which is the last thing I would want. I want them to do something like Dream Theater. You really don't know what you are going to get until the leg starts.
-
Metallica changes 1/4 to 1/2 of their set list every night....
-
I still want TBA on the 1st set, and the 2nd set, w/e. I just really think they should continue putting in REALLY rare songs that are never played, and at least 1 song from every album.
-
Metallica should play The God that Fail more, I think that song is criminally underrated!
-

I can imagine them playing it with Ted Nugent up there doing the shotgun parts.

AWESOME!!!
-
Asides from the hits, I've seen two of my favorites live ("Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" and "Creeping Death"), but other songs I'd wanna see are "Frayed Ends Of Sanity", "...And Justice For All", "Battery", and "For Whom The Bell Tolls".
