So, I tried to set up a list of every solo Jordan Rudess has done in Dream Theater. Sorry if this has been done several times before, but I couldn't find any. And I had already made the list, so I stopped searching early... :P
I both included and excluded some solos in the grey area, but tried to stay away from "background" arpeggios and unisons. Please tell me if you think that some solos has been wrongly excluded.
What did surprise me a bit, was that I didn't find a real solo in TCoT, only arpeggios and unisons.
I voted for the solo in Octavarium "between" the Medicate and the Full Circle part. That one is so awesome! :metal
Honor Thy Father.
Why? I don't know. I just enjoy it the most.
ragtime all the way. the octavarium medicate one is godly though
Medicate definitely. Followed by all the piano ones.
Blind Faith piano solo got my vote. That has always blown me away.

Yeah, I was torn between that one and Medicate.
It was almost a tie between the Blind Faith Piano solo and the Octavarium solo between Medicate and Full Circle. Then I came to my senses and remembered that the Blind Faith piano solo is what I want to see more of in DT than anything else. So yeah.
Toss-up between the Home lead, the The Glass Prison solos and the Blind Faith lead for me.
Solitary Shell piano, at Score.
The Blind Faith piano part would have been awesome if they'd chopped off the first half.
Blind Faith piano solo gets my vote. I wish we could hear more piano work by Jordan instead of some wanky (imho) solos.
Home definitely! The piano part in Blind Faith is great too.
Piano solo during Hollow Years Live at Budokan?
I like the short About To Crash solo, very nice and good sound.
Ragtime solo - epically excecuted, I only wish it was longer :(
Beyond this Life is just too awesome. But the one from Octavarium was really close as well.
I can't....it's to hard to choose one, it's between Medicate, and octa intro, and Blind faith...and AROP Bebot solo, seriously. And all the piano solos are Great as well
I chose the Root of All Evil. But the Octavarium solo is nice tits as well.
Stream of Consciousness (piano)
Blind Faith would have been my other pick.
Octavarium analog solo. Fucking. Awesome.
Solitary Shell. By lightyears.
Octavarium (end of Medicate/start of Full Circle)

Piano solo during Hollow Years Live at Budokan?
Well, I only went through studio albums that JR has been a part of, and I'm not going to go through every live album also. I guess you can put that one under "Other"... ;)
Gotta be the ragtime solo. :hefdaddy
So, with 61 votes in total, and only 2 votes from the last 2 albums, I'd say it's safe to conclude that Jordan's solo quality has decreased during the last couple of years. However, this has been a frequent topic on the forum, so no surprises...
On the flipside, I'm looking forward to DT's new album filled with killer Rudess solos! :)

This.
Fuck the haters.
The ragtime thing gets a lot of crap from everyone here, but no-one can deny its awsomeness.
No-one.

What would I choose as one anyway?

My personal collection.
Haven't chosen one yet, will do a bit of research later, but whenever JR fires up the piano it's always awesome.
I have now chosen...Octavarium intro, it's so...magical!
oh and I got shocked when I saw no one voted for Blind Faith lead!
I know it isn't exactly a solo, but that part on LAB during Only a Matter of Time. The part that used to be funny sounding on WDADU but was made turned loud and powerful epicness.
For me, that would be Goodnight kiss in terms of piano solos. Also, Solitary shell, absolutely. Amazing :-)
Apart from that, Octavarium intro solo on guitar are perfectly Floydish. And, of course, Overture 1928 :-)
One of the best keyboard arrangements overall for me was - A change of seasons from Scenes from NY. Absolutely unbelieveable.
Solitary Shell, easily. The piano solo and the little square wave soli, but especially the piano solo!
My favorite non-piano Rudess solo is at 5:00 in Beyond tomorrow, but I guess that's not exactly a Dream Theater solo. From Dream Theater, it would be the arps in Octavarium. Such an organic and tasty sound!
I love almost all of his solos, but my favorite is Fatal Tragedy.
I'm very happy seeing Ragtime solo having so many votes. I've always loved that section, but for some reason I thought it wasn't really liked among Dream Theater fans. To my ears, it's so epic.
Not really a JR solo, but the piano during JP's solo on In the Name of God (Budokan) is just awesome.

Honor Thy Father.
Why? I don't know. I just enjoy it the most.
honor thy father is a perfect song...that is until the keyboard solo. though its not jordan's fault: the solo itself might be well executed/awesome, but ive always felt all the momentum and dynamics of the song are killed by this section. perhaps if the riff underneath were changed or they did a stop time bit or something...
this poll made me realize how amazing Jordan's work on 6 degrees really is. I mean I always thought it was his best work, but damn... all of those solo's are so insanely good. I picked the short square lead one. brilliant.
as far as keyboard solos go it is medicate all the way for me, is it just me or am i the only one that thinks a lot of his keyboard solos don't really fit or compliment the music. on the other hand, the blind faith and solitary shell piano solos are awesome. I personally love all his piano work in dream theater, wish there was more of it.
Octavarium (Beginning of Full Circle)
Apparently I'm the first person to go with the continuum solo in ANTR. I just think it works great and dwarfs all the other solos in the tradeoff section there.
Others I considered: Octavarium intro, Dance of Eternity ragtime, and the first part of Beyond This Life (so groovy!).
The one that is winning :D
Voted for OCtavarium.Great solo, especially from Score DVD one ;)
It's unfair that you can pick only one solo. I chose Octavarium, but he has many amazing solos: Fatal Tragedy, Blind Faith, SDOIT, the unison at Never Enough, the unisons at the end of TMOLS instrumental section, Overture 1928, Home, Finally Free, etc.
