You ever get a CD and you fall in love with the band but for some reason, they never make it. From a label not promoting them well enough or the band themselves never reaching the same heights as their first or second cd?
Lets post a few of these bands. My first is a band from 1989. Billy Sherwood of Yes fame started this band with Bruce Gowdy from Stone Fury(old fogey's know this band). I loved their 1st cd, self titled and they released a second CD in 1995 that went nowhere. So hear is a song from their first CD. It's called, Open The Door.

For me it's Toad the Wet Sprocket. Great song writing. Great music.
-
Tool.
One album every 5 years.... The fuck?
-
Rush
-
Zappa ;D

That's a great one Durg. Great melodies. I loved Walk on the Ocean live where Glen Phillips played the solo on the mandolin but with distortion. I miss them too.
-
Tool.
One album every 5 years.... The fuck?
This is my answer also.
-
Seriously:
Bon Iver One really great album and one semi good EP = not enough
David Gilmour I could really appreciate another album like On An Island.
Fantomas Last album: 2005
Planet X Always more Planet X
Ron Jarzombek SSOTC is a great great album, so are the Spastic Ink albums.
Transatlantic.
-
Polkadot Cadaver
Protest the Hero
I know they're making new albums right now but still...
-
Metallica :neverusethis:
Nah, but seriously, I think if Alice in Chains hadn't taken a 14 year break (I know, I know) we could have had dozens more awesome songs.
-
Psychostick: their first album is genius but everything after has been shit. So here I wish they made more GOOD music.
-
Reflexion - Only 3 albums. Their newest one was this year, but I would love to hear more material from them.
For My Pain - only one album. Amazing symphonic goth metal supergroup that was made up of members of Eternal Tears of Sorrow and Nightwish. There was talk of another album being released last year, but I guess it's not gonna happen anymore. :-\
Wintersun - Only one. The new album "Time" has been in production hell for the past 6 years. WTF. And there's been no news whatsoever about the progress this year, or at least there's none that I know of.
-
Psychostick: their first album is genius but everything after has been shit. So here I wish they made more GOOD music.
Zook, you didn't like Girl Directions?
-
Psychostick: their first album is genius but everything after has been shit. So here I wish they made more GOOD music.
That's the BEER IS GOOD band right? :lol
Anyways, Neutral Milk Hotel was the first band I thought about. Deep down inside, I wish they did a few more albums, but I understand it's tough to beat In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.
and if dead people count: Frank Zappa, Nick Drake
-
Peter Gabriel. Anywhere between six and ten years for a proper studio album.
-
Peter Gabriel. Anywhere between six and ten years for a proper studio album.
That is a great one sky. I need to see him if he tours again.
-
The New Caledonia - Only one (although very, very awesome) album and then a break up. :sadnessssssssss
Protest the Hero - In studio but taking forever geez
Bruce Dickinson - Chemical Wedding is one of the greatest metal albums ever, Tyranny of Souls was good, but I think he can deliver more awesomeness with Roy Z than he is with Maiden. As much as it saddens me to admit.
SikTh - Trees... and Death of a Dead Day are masterpieces and I'm sure the band had tons of fire left in them.
-
King, I'm with you on Stone Fury. Also Cobra..(Jimi Jameson's pre Survivor band).
-
King, I think the only memorable thing on Sandwich was "who likes vagina I do, I do..." the songs just seemed so forced and aren't funny. Actually, The Thank you song was cool. They need their original bassist back. And yes, they're the Beer is good band. It's called BEER!!! :tup
-
Peter Gabriel. Anywhere between six and ten years for a proper studio album.
That is a great one sky. I need to see him if he tours again.
Have you seen any videos from the latests European/South American tour? He plays all of Scratch My Back live, which is kind of meh, but then he plays solo material with the orchestra. "San Jacinto" sounds SO GOOD.
-
Tool.

-
King, I'm with you on Stone Fury. Also Cobra..(Jimi Jameson's pre Survivor band).
I talked to Billy Sherwood on the Progressive Ears forum about World Trade which led us to Stone Fury and how Billy liked the guitarist playing so they got together and formed WT.
-
Not counting bands that broke up:
Tool
Cynic
Dillinger Escape Plan + Mike Patton
Julie Christmas in general
-

I haven't. I will check it out. I kick myself for not seeing him live.

Jeff Buckley. God, why did there have to be only one?
Death counts as a reason, right?
-

Oh, totally forgot! Although, thinking about this before I would be wary of Jeff turning into a John Mayer-type attention whore poser in today's society.
-
Jeff Buckley. God, why did there have to be only one?

This is a great one.
-
Bands that broke up too soon:
Clockwork - one ABSOLUTELY AMAZING album then they broke up, and they all disappeared.
Dali's Dilemma - again, one and done, but at least they've stuck around in other bands.
Ice Age - Two solid albums before unsuccessfully selling out.
Power of Omens - Death of bassist :sadpanda:
Bands that don't record often enough:
Arena - about 5 years between albums lately
Bruce Dickinson solo - Way to awesome to stop
Enchant - it's been almost 7 years :sadpanda:
Shadow Gallery - yeah, they released an album last year, but the last three albums have been 4+ years apart
Symphony X - Two albums in last 8 years, although if they release another album as poor as Paradise Lost I won't care too much any more.
Peter Gabriel. Anywhere between six and ten years for a proper studio album.
-
Tool.
One album every 5 years.... The fuck?
And hell, that's only if we get lucky.
-
Jeff Buckley. God, why did there have to be only one?
Death counts as a reason, right?
Oh, totally forgot! Although, thinking about this before I would be wary of Jeff turning into a John Mayer-type attention whore poser in today's society.
I can't see that. He always came off as really sincere to me.
I guess, in the vein of people who died to young, there is also Nick Drake. I more wish that he had gotten to see how much people appreciated his work, and I could have listened to 30 albums of his.
I also wish that we would have gotten to hear more from Kevin Gilbert. His "The Shaming of the True" showed that there was a LOT of depth and talent to the guy that we'd never get to see..
I'll also say Damien Rice, so I've not only mentioned dead people....
-
I'm surprised that no one has said Pantera yet.
My List:
Circus Maximus
Tool
A Perfect Circle
Redemption
Pinkly Smooth
White Zombie
Pitch Black Forecast
Psychostick
-
I'm surprised that no one has said Pantera yet.
That's because Pantera isn't good.
-
(https://www.tabloidprodigy.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/skeletor.jpg)
Oh you.
-
I like Pantera, but they....made enough music.
-
Pantera got worse with every album after Cowboys From Hell.
-
I'd say they got bad after Far Beyond Driven. Southern Trendkill was ok, but RtS was...bleh. You can tell they hated each other when they made that record.
Unrelated to that, I wish the Wu Tang Clan made more albums as a full group. God knows they make enough solo albums.
-
DTVT. Enchant is a great one. After the live CD and DVD, nothing. I guess it's got to be a money thing for them.
-
Jeff Buckley. God, why did there have to be only one?
Death counts as a reason, right?
Oh, totally forgot! Although, thinking about this before I would be wary of Jeff turning into a John Mayer-type attention whore poser in today's society.
I can't see that. He always came off as really sincere to me.
Yeah I thought that too until I watched some interviews with him. To me he just seems so pretentious. Babbling on and trying to impress the lady interviewer. I dunno. I love Jeff, and Grace is one of my all time favourite albums, but I honestly think that guy feigned sincerity.
-
Symphony X - Two albums in last 8 years, although if they release another album as poor as Paradise Lost I won't care too much any more.

-
Mr. Bungle. It's not even a question.
-
Denali - I know she has a bunch of other projects, but there was something about that setup that made me want more.
Hum
Wheat
Stars - They are somewhat consistent, I just want more.
Doves - I'm ready for a new album.
Oceanlab - I'm ready to hear another complete album from Justine Suissa. Or anything she sings. I don't care, I'll follow. The latest work she did with Markus Schulz is great, but it's not enough!
Jeff Buckley - Why did you have to go for a swim that day, man? =( What you were working on during those days was starting to sound amazing.
Sunny Day Real Estate - Another album with the original group would be nice. Rising Tide is amazing.
Man, so many many more...
-
I came into here with Tool and Peter Gabriel in mind.
-
In all fairness to Peter Gabriel, most artists slow down a bit as they get older, and he did release eight albums (two of which were soundtracks) from 1977-1992, so I think he should be cut some slack.
Anyway, the first band I thought of was easy: Transatlantic.
-
Demilich
-
The thing that really bugs me about I/O's release is that he apparently has somewhere between 130 and 150 songs or ideas just waiting, begging to be used. Eight years to pick ten or so of those for a new album seems odd.
And Kev, he's released three soundtracks. Birdy, Last Temptation, and Rabbit-Proof Fence. Rabbit Proof Fence is pretty cool, but its not a Peter Gabriel album by a long shot.
-
The Postal Service
-

I know, but that one wasn't in the 1977-1992 window that I was pointing out. :p
The Postal Service
OH! Another good pick! I would love to hear more by them.
-
Pure Reason Revolution is one example.
I also want to say Tool, but it depends if we're talking awesome quality aka. Lateralus/most of 10 000 days, or the mediocreness the first 2 albums has.
-
a good majority of the artists on this list (https://rateyourmusic.com/list/SoundscapeMN/artist_casualties_hiatuses__recorded_studio_music_mostly_). But just to name a few.
Kevin Gilbert and Toy Matinee
Apes and Androids
John Arch
Jellyfish
Burst
The Stiletto Formal
maudlin of the Well
SikTh
Jeff Buckley
100Ft Snowman ..they got offered a record deal before they could make their 1st lp (after 2 great eps), and the label wanted 50% of their profits.
-
or the mediocreness the first 2 albums has.
::)
Fail of the Year?
Anyone?

There are a few great songs on the first 2 albums, but overall it's mostly mediocre songs.
The problem with the few great songs is that they only sound great live, and not so much on cd.

I couldn't care less really, this thread is about posting bands you think should make more albums, and i simply specified that i don't enjoy the first 2 albums.
I don't really see how that makes me fail, maybe you could stick to the topic next time instead of being such a wise-ass.

Dude, I didn't mean to offend you or anything... It's just that 99.9% of Tool fans disagree with you completely.
And yes, I know I'm a Tool fanboy.

Transatlantic
Opeth, it's been a while since Watershed but i hear they're starting the next album so hopefully that comes soon.

It's all good, i know many people would disagree with me, especially regarding AEnima. (cba to type out the first letter correctly)
It has just never grabbed me, which is probably because of it's a lot weirder then the newer Tool-stuff.
Still, i'd drink vodka and listen to Lateralus with you anyday. ;)

WTF, where was I when this happened. I followed Europe's new stuff. Were they any good?
-
Unexpect is a second choice though. 2 CDs and 1 EP in nearly 15 years for a band of this quality is innacceptable.

Phoenix was ok. But Omega is fantastic.

Pure Reason Revolution is one example.
They've been pretty consistent. Dark Third in 2006, AVO in 2009, and the new album drops later this month. :caffeine:

Pantera got worse with every album after Cowboys From Hell.
Lie. The Great Southern Trendkill was incredible as well as some parts of Fae Beyond Driven. Reinventing the Steel was mediocre with a lot of filler, I'll give you that.
-
Hey, hey now, lets agree that all of their music is equally uninspired.
-
SikTh
Death
Mendeed
Kyuss
Necrophagist

What's up with all the elitism and snobbery on this board regarding musical tastes? Anyway, a few others are Insomnium, Skyfire, and Swallow the Sun.
-
A Perfect Circle, but I believe there's a new album in the works.
Tool
Led Zeppelin (just make a damn record and show us all how it's done properly)
Damien Rice (is he still alive?)
Symphony X (just waiting for the next record to hear if they still got it or not. PL, I'm sorry, that just isn't the way I like my music. Overproduced piece of shit).
-
Damien Rice (is he still alive?)
I've heard numerous rumors floating around of a new album in the works, but as far as I know he hasn't confirmed anything.
-

An antagonistic creature, the progressive rock fan will seek out those that disagree with him and isolate them from the rest of his ilk, equipping him with a more robust social environment.

If I could get a second album from Gospel, I'd be happy. Very well-crafted aggressive instrumentals with vocals that are used sparingly and as another instrument... Man, I may have to put that on right now.
Unfortunately, they made one album (The Moon is a Dead World) in 2005, released it with no fanfare, and abruptly broke up, so it's unlikely that I'll ever see another one.
*Edit: I must still be drunk, I forgot my obligatory pimping of Poe. Two CDs in the last fifteen years, especially with as brilliant as Haunted was... She needs to release something independently, and soon.
-
Rhea's Obsession. They made two brilliant CDs and appearently disbanded.
Everyone should check them out if you like moody, seductive, ambeint female fronted perfection.
-
Stonehenge (Hungarian Prog Metal - disbanded)
I had to look a while but I picked up their disc Angelo Salutante and fell in love with it. That's their only album (that I know of).
-
Oh, add CYCLAMEN to my list. SikTh meets J-Rock is graavy.
their debut album is supposed come out in 2 weeks.
-
Cynic
Superior
-
Rage Against The Machine. We got 3 albums of originals, and a 4th of semi-originals (covered lyrics, unique music). Even with Audioslave and all, a new Rage album would easily be #1 on my Wishlist. I mean, Battle Of Los Angeles was an album of complete :metal :metal :metal

I understand what you mean to a certain extent.

It's no bashing though, it's just not one of my favorite bands. :P

They're my favourite band ever, but I can completely see where you're coming from. :lol
Their songs could easily be called 'samey,' but they all have a really distinct atmosphere and feel to them for me. Like, Right In Two has a climax that's almost identical to Forty Six & 2's climax, but those songs feel really different throughout to me, even during said climaxes.
Also, Green Day. 5 years for 21st Century Breakdown? What the hell, it wasn't worth that wait.

It's a pretty damned good album. It's Hefdaddy approved!

Celtic Frost.
They have a handful of albums, but if they hadn't had a long hiatus they could have been a 10+ album band. I love pretty much everything by them.
-
Jimi Hendrix. He was one album away from uniting humanity in complete harmony.
HELP (w/ Emerson, Lake and Palmer).
Actually, there's some kind of archives boxed set coming soon..like this November In think, which will include a ton of unreleased studio jams among other stuff. Kind of more in the vein of Valley of the Neptune I guess.
-
Jimi Hendrix. He was one album away from uniting humanity in complete harmony.
Yeah, but the Wyld Stallyns will unite humanity and align the planets.

Yes I know who the hell I'm talking about. And of course I know the band would never continue without Chuck. How is including Death out of context with the thread when people are mentioning Hendrix, Pantera, and other bands or artists affected by bereavement? In my opinion Deaths later albums were their best, and it was a great shame that we were deprived of any more music from them by the loss of Chuck. Therefore, Death is band that I wished had made more music (see the thread title.)

Hey bro, sorry. I always get a bit emotional when I speak of Chuck and Death, such a loss, didn't mean to have a go or take anything out on you. I was out of line.
I'd probably agree that the later albums are their best. My favs are Individual Thought Patterns and Sound of Perserverance. Such epic death metal, I couldn't imagine the amazing music that he would be releasing today.
I'm really looking forward to the second Control Denied album also.

They are re-uniting for a world tour, but I'd love if they were to make another album.

I was literally reading the thread, and just before your post came up I thought of them.
So yeah, I agree.

Death
Dude, do you even know who the hell you are talking about? Death was Chuck, Death died with Chuck, end of story. A tragic loss.
It's pretty obvious that he's just wishing that Chuck was still alive today.
Yes, but in the context of discussion in this thread, it's a band that shouldn't really need to be mentioned IMO.

It's cool man, and i agree, those albums are my favourites too.
Another band I thought of today, is Cave In. They went from hardcore metal to radio friendly pop rock to somewhere in the middle, but just about all of it was great.

Tool and Damien Rice. Sort it out immediately.
-
Blackfield. thankfully I understand B3 is on its way this coming year sometime.

TOOL
Although I know they need (or so they say) the full time they take between albums to fully write an album. I'm not complaining though. I'd rather take a masterpiece every four years then subpar albums every year/two years.

Chroma Key is probably the biggest one for me.

For sure.

I miss, I Mother Earth. Saw them back up DT on the Awake tour. Here's a few videos.

The lead singer Edwin sang on most of Alex lifeson's solo CC, Victor.

Two more epic ones; Circle Takes the Square and Ameseours. I NEED more from them.

Fates Warning

KING CRIMSON. It's been way too long since Mr. Fripp recorded The Power to Believe.

I agree. I heard news of a new release next year, not sure if it's a compilation or new material though. Hopefully they tour again as well, I'd love to see them.

Fates Warning
Yes, please.

I would like some more Andrew WK songs to party to. I'm hoping Axl holds up to his word on following up Chinese Democracy (fuck you I liked it) faster than CD itself.
I know he's working on it now but I would still like more Petrucci solo work. I would like another Strapping Young Lad CD as well.

How did Circus Maximus drop the ball? Are you saying Isolate was bad? ..... Because it wasn't.... Turdface.
It was a fucking AMAZING album..............................................in 2007.
The ball they so spectacularly dropped.
Was the hype ball.
Who the fuck are they now?
It's over.
They missed their shot. They had us on the edge of our seats for a series of albums, each better than the rest. Now---their next release(whenever the fuck it's coming out) will get a month or so of spins...and they'll disappear in obscurity. Oh wait. That's already happened.
