During the Jewish “Days of Awe,” culminating with Yom Kippur, many Conservative Jews will be turning the pages of a prayer book that no longer regards God as “awesome.”

Incidentally, I remember witnessing my first English Catholic Mass in Boston, and being surprised that Jesus was described as lying next to an ass.

Jews: Ruining god for 4000 years.

These words don't compute. It's like getting a box of Nuts and Gum.

So there beef with the word awesome is that it is now slang. I hope they have a problem with the word god soon. You know because of the tweens with there over use of "Oh my god". Change god to Omniscient Divine Entity or ODE for short. People can go around saying "Blessed is my ODE of existance". :lol

Good work.

I agree that the word "awesome" is overused. It used to be reserved for things that were truly awesome, instead of just any moderately cool thing to happen.
But the problem is that "awe-inspiring" is just not as awesome a word as "awesome."

This is a process the Christian Bible has undergone since its first translation. There never is an ideal one-to-one mapping from source to target language, and when the target language evolves, you have to adjust the translation.

That's what your Mom told me.

What a coincedence, she said the same thing to me. Go figure.

Alright, now let's see the proof. ;)
-
The Godhead (God) is traditionally said to consist of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This is also called the Trinity (the "tri" signifying three parts).
The "d" character next to trinity is actually the Greek letter "del," and it means that it's a partial differential equation. So, we break down each term with respect to the denominator's variable.
Ah, stop there. Soundgarden, what would the partial of the Father look like? Love*Mercy, I would assume. For the Son, Wisdom*Sacrifice, and the Holy Spirit, Counsel*Truth.

I never noticed the word "awesome" is overused but I guess it is, I think it's only cause people from the 80's overused "fantastic".
I'll try to use "Splendid" from now on heh

I hope they have a problem with the word god soon.
Jews write often write God as G-d. Seems they DO have a problem with the word "God." ;)

Before you get too excited, that formula declares God to be single-dimensional.
