Posting this from a bar, where somebody selected that stupid "dashboard light " song. Man, that pseudo-metal piano rock with the musical vocals over it is unbearable.
Wow, as I'm typing this, the song is over and "don't stop believbelievin'" is on. Whoever fedf the jukebox has the musical taste of a 18 year old college girl.

Die. Bat out of Hell is one of the greatest albums ever and "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" is a great song. I don't think Jim Steiman was trying to be metal at ALL with that song. Now with the title track, maybe.

I generally don't like Meat Loaf; I think his vocal style is too over the top and too operatic. However, "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" is a fun song, despite being overplayed to death. I am pretty sure I still know all of the lyrics to it every time I hear it. :lol

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how Bat Out of Hell is the 5th highest selling album of all time, at 43 million copies sold worldwide. Blows my mind.

The Bat out of Hell trilogy is one of the greatest achievements of any musician ever. Jim Steinman is a fantastic composer and musician. Paradise By the Dashboard Light is absolutely no exception.

It's the combination of Steinman's over-the-top Broadway rock and Meat Loaf's delivery that make the magic. That's why all Meat Loaf albums written by Steinman are great and all the ones without him suck. Those two need each other.

I dunno, I wasn't crazy about Lasagnas last album. Sure, the tracks were very well layered, but when he kept trying to come off as saucy, it just came off as cheesy.

That's cool, but I just hate the Meat Loaf, for example, often turns a one-syllable word into a three-syllable word, simply by going crazy with it. Some can do that and have it sound good. Most of the time, I hate it when Meat Loaf does that, at least on most of the stuff I have heard by him.

Don't know the Meatloaf song, but I really can't stand Don't Stop Believing.
I didn't particularly like it even before Glee made it inescapable. Pretty dull and sugary for a start, but it was basically that song that everyone seemed to think was their own special song that only they and their boyfriend or their parents or their climbing society knew about. "Nobody appreciates the classics any more," or whatever, so it kind of annoyed me that it was so interminable. Nowadays, though, it's so ubiquitous that I just go "Oh god" whenever it comes on. Tedious.

Bat Out of Hell and I Would Do Anything For Love are classics. Besides those two songs, I got tired of Meat Loaf.
It's All Coming Back To Me Now is another great song imo.
And how anyone can hate Don't Stop Believin is beyond me. Nothing is better than driving down the street at 2 in the morning shouting the song out the window with 5 other people. Ah memories.

Glee had nothing to do with making Don't Stop Believing popular again. Family Guy started it back in 2004 and suddenly all kinds of TV shows were using it. I've heard it countless times in bars and parties since coming to college 5 years ago. It drives me nuts every time it comes on.

Aye. Like I said, it was fairly interminable already. Glee just capitalised on it, and propelled it back into the charts, giving DJs another version of it to play.

I quite like some of Meat Loaf's stuff. His old stuff was pretty damn cheesy, but Bat Out of Hell (the song) is awesome, and some of his slightly later stuff was pretty good. Welcome to the Neighbourhood is an awesome album.

My mom used to play the first Bat Out Of Hell quite a bit when I was young. I think that was one of the things that laid early foundations for my tastes of longer songs...

The only reason Meat Loaf is all but relevant in my life is because he was in the House episode where Kutner died. Fuck.

My problem with the song is basically the entire second half.
The first half isn't bad, just kind of generic, but once the baseball announcer's voice starts and every drunk person within a 25 mile radius starts singing along, I die several agonizing deaths.

This 1000%. Paradise By The Dashboard Light is phenomenal.
Journey is also awesome, Don't Stop Believin' particularly so.

I'm partial to the "second phase" of Journey, after they'd gotten Steve Perry and grown out of the proggy, fusiony stuff they did on the first three albums, but while they still had Greg Rollie on piano and vocals. On songs like "Feeling That Way" and "Anytime", it's the trading off between their two voices that really makes it. They really took off after Rollie left and they became The Steve Perry Hit Machine. Some would say that that's when they really hit upon the formula, but I don't know if I like the later stuff as well, although songs like "Separate Ways" and "Line of Fire" still rock pretty good.

Meatloaf isn't so bad. I could never imagine his voice coming from that guy though.
Journey on the other hand. That song became annoying to me last year because the kids at my high school would never stop singing it. Ask them anything else about Journey, it's a blank page, but bring up Don't Stop Believing and they go crazy. I like Journey otherwise...
