Title: London - The O2 Arena?
Post by: Sigz on May 24, 2010, 11:32:33 AM
Is this a decent venue for a concert?

If you have lower-level seats, yeah

Well I know it's a big arena, I was more concerned about the sound quality.

It's the best sound quality arena in London...so basically good sound for an arena but just average overall

:lol Alright. If tickets aren't too bad then I'll probably go.

This doesn't directly relate to your question Sigz, but thew best sound quality I ever heard (at least that I can remember well enough to judge) was at the smallest venue that I've seen a major band at, the Chevrolet Theater: (https://www.cesct.com/Images/Chevrolet-theater.jpg)
I saw Progressive Nation 2009 there and it was awesome, maybe because it was so small. Also kinda unrelated, but how is the sound quality at Madison Square Garden?

It's pretty standard for an arena, so not amazing sound but not terrible either. What you planning to see there, and why aren't I being invited? :P

I've only seen Metallica there but it was great, I didn't notice any sound problems and that's easily my favourite concert I've ever been to, although that was probably more to do with the Metallica bit than the O2 bit.

:lol I'm seeing Paramore, so I don't think you'd be interested. I really want to see the PT RAH show, but it's already sold out.  :sadpanda:

So apparently God is an Astronaut is playing at the O2 Academy Islington. On November 12th.

1) Anyone else interested in going?

2) What is this O2 and why do they own everything?

O2 are a mobile phone network, and they sponsor (not own) a whole load of stuff, particularly music venues.

And I might be interested in going, though I've heard very little of their music. People keep recommending them to me though, so I should probably check them out properly.

Please buy a meet and greet for Hayley Williams.

And touch her boobies right when the picture is taken.  :-*

:lol I would, but I'm probably just gonna get cheaper tickets cause I don't have the money.

Also, I'd like to be able to have a (good) beer at a concert for the first time in my life.

I've been buying cheap tickets for the past five shows I'm seeing because I don't have any money (oh my poor bank account... lolcollege).

And I don't know if you're 21, but I'm pretty sure you're somehwere around there, but a bunch of 19-20 years olds got thrown out of Alice in Chains before the show even started for underage drinking so be careful to not get caught (obiously  :lol). I've never taken the chance to drink at a concert.

Getting drunk at shows is kind of stupid, imo.

Being high, on the other hand.

Except this is London, where the drinking age is 18  :lol

Good luck finding a venue that sells good beers. :lol Although I think the novelty of having a beer in a venue might be quite fun for a yank. ;)

The thing to do is have a drink or two in a pub before the show.

:lol I think anything is an improvement over the natty light from a keg in a garage that I get at the shows in town here. But they sell beer at actual venues here, I just can't buy it cause I'm not 21 yet.

Then in that case you should come and join me  :yarr

2) What is this O2 and why do they own everything?

1) I am actually going and well psyched about it...shame it's not till November

2) O2 is Sean Bean's company and that's why they own everything...he threatens them with physical violence if they don't sell to him

I'm going to Paramore at the O2 as well. My experience of the venue is that the sound is pretty good considering the size of the place. Granted I've only ever been standing on the floor and not right at the top though.

I've seen Muse, Foo Fighters, and Metallica twice there, and I've never experienced a problem with the sound.

Seats, I'm in the lower tier.

So they've announced a second date on the 15th Nov, not sure whether to book that one too, because I don't see them as the kind of band who would vary their setlists greatly.

Yeah, looking at some past setlists, they don't change things up that much.

Also, I'm glad I got my ticket when I did, as the O2 show's already sold out.  :millahhhh

I don't like O2 Arena at all... I saw Roger Waters, Rush and Iron Maiden there.... and it just didn't feel like I was seeing my favourite bands....
the only perk is the fact that it's easy to get in and leave....

My favourite venues are Koko (incredible sound system..... seriously.....even I would sound good there... )
And my second favourite is Hammersmith Apollo.... I enjoyed every gig I saw there...

Beer? Koko is the best for beer as well...

Are you guys going to any gig in September? If so, please let me know... I'm dying to see a gig now...

Holy thread revival, Nem!

I actually really like the O2 arena now. I saw Linkin Park there and the sound was fantastic, and I went to the ATP tennis finals last winter which was great as well. And generally the whole complex is just really cool!

ha ha yes... I was looking for one to revive... and I found a good one :)

oh yes... I love the complex too... I went to all these gigs alone.. and it was easy to entertain myself before the gigs.... but when it starts... it's just not the same for me...
I prefer smaller ones.... well not always actually... I hated Scala London at the Epica gig...

anyway... I wouldn't mind going to any venue now :)

When I went to Scala for Red Sparrowes the bouncer dude didn't believe I was american, despite my accent and California ID card. I was confuz.

And the O2 was pretty good when I saw paramore there, though I wish I had gotten GA floor tickets (also wish I had left earlier, there were a shitload of tube closures and I ended up having to take a ferry across the river which made me miss their first song :( )
