They're not going to file charges against the guy citing a 5 year statute of limitations. Part of me thinks this is reasonable, but I can't help but to think that part of it is the Texas Good Ole Boy system. Cops don't get busted, and I suspect judges don't either.
Regardless, this doesn't trouble me. What does is that I suspect this guy could go on presiding over family courts for decades to come. In plenty of places they'd have already tarred and feathered the guy. Down here, he might well do well by the family values crowd who support beating the shit out of children who misbehave. If he were facing reelection today, rather than 3 years from now, I suspect this would hurt him somewhat, but not necessarily enough to cost him the election. I know he faces some kind of review board, and it's possible they might stick it to him, but just as likely they cite the oft-used "this has no bearing on his years of wonderful service" mantra.
