Prog Rock against the NRA
« on: February 10, 2014, 12:37:29 PM »
Hi there, our prog trio Playground  finished the first hilarious clip. It's a ironic epic prog song about the NRA madness. Influences are Gentle Giant, Black Sabbath, Olivier Messiaen, children songs, Iron Maiden and Toto, just to name a few. What do you think?

Pretty despicable to use Sandy Hook and a bunch of silly straw man arguments to try to make your political point.  But you aren't the first.

It would be better if the message were a bit more tactful, instead of being so blunt and in-your-face.

Also, no offense, that's some of the most vanilla prog I've ever heard - and I've heard a lot of vanilla prog.

I don't get what's wrong with telling somebody their music sounds incredibly amateur/or done to death if that's what he's getting at.

Ah, I missed the fact that Dream Theater members themselves were in that rule. Heh.

Dude, DT aren't "vanilla" prog. At least, they're one of those huge gallon tubs of artificially flavored "vanilla" prog and "chocolate" (cake) metal  ::)

 ;)

The German lyrics were actually better. I mean, same content, but better-written.

But yeah, the music was like as if somebody had suspended a Spock's Beard album in fabric softener for a week.

heh, I guess if the lyrics were a bit more clever this could have been something pretty good, but to be honest I had to turn it off after a couple of minutes because the lyrics were just....kinda....um....I don't know, corny maybe?  I mean, generally speaking I even agree with the message the lyrics are attempting to convey, but they're so embarrassing I don't think I could actually give the song my stamp of approval.

Yeah, same here. I'd be the first praising a song against the NRA because they're just about the creepiest organization on earth, but that song makes you embarrassed of being on the same side as the song's lyrics.
Sorry, harsh words, but subtlety is the name of the game with subjects like that.

Sorry, but that is awful.

I got about two minutes in and couldn't take anymore.  Those are some of the most embarrassing lyrics I've ever heard.

Ironic?  Hilarious?  Haha, okay.
