So, yeah, which albums' lyrics do you like and which ones do you think suck?  Here's how I'd rank them:

1. Awake
2. Six
3. I&W
4. F into I
5. Eigthalbum
6. D&D
7. T of T
8. BC
9. SC
10. Metro#2 (Electric Boogaloo)

Overall, I'd say I generally prefer their 90s stuff, in terms of lyrics, though the 00s stuff is strong up until System.
Though I don't like the story in Metro, so it's last.

1.) Awake
2.) I&W
3.) WDADU
4.) SDOIT
5.) SFAM
6.) FII
7.) ToT
8.) SC
9.) BC&SL
10.) Octavarium

Off the top of my head.  This is hard because albums like FII and SDOIT have some of the band's very best and worst lyrics.  And SFAM's lyrics are fine, just nothing special, but they're constrained by the concept.

surprised nobody has put SDOIT first, although perhaps not their best work in terms of lyrical content, for me it's always been the most interesting to listen too. Awake & Scenes from a Memory are both great however.

1. SDOIT
2. I&W
3. Awake
4. FII (especially the demos, as they exclude You Not Me's lyrics and add some masterpieces like Raise the Knife or Speak to Me)
5. Octavarium
6. TOT
7. SFAM
8. WDADU
9. SC
10. BCSL

Basically I think DT kinda lost it a little when they started making rules about lyrics (SFAM era), with 2 exceptions, a positive and a negative:
SDOIT - they just nailed it here. When I read lyrics, I'm also interested in the topic. Blind Faith, SDOIT itself, Disappear, Misunderstood, The Great Debate, and last but not least The Glass Prison...amazing songs lyrically, I just love this album on that aspect.

WDADU - while I do appreciate the lyrics here (SC and BCSL are the only albums where I truly cringe at a major part of the lyrics), they're just not as good as the other 7 albums. Too many songs by Dominici and Moore - and I don't appreciate the lyrics of either generally - and I've seen better stuff from Petrucci in the 7 albums above.

1) Awake
2) FII - MP's best contributions, as well as LITS and TOT
3) IAW
4) SFAM - very "real" and "pedestrian" sounding, perfect for the concept
5) SDOIT
6) WDADU - KM has some real shiners, but mostly cheesy lyrics
7) TOT
8) SC - the fantasy lyrics really aren't that bad...it's just POW and TDEN that drag it down
9) Octavarium
10) BC&SL

I predict ADTOE will be in the 7-8 range.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. All great throughout:
1. Awake
2. I&W

Mostly Great with some iffy ones:
3. FII (NM, PS, HY, LiTS, TAMP, AL, ToT)
4. SDOIT (TGP, BF, Misunderstood, Disappear, Solitary Shell)

Mixed bag:
5. SFAM
6. WDADU

Mainly sub-par with rare gems
7. ToT (Vacant)
8. BC&SL (Wither)

Not one song with great lyrics, but some great parts within some songs
9. Octavarium (most of These Walls, MP's part in the song Octavarium)
10. SC (parts from ItPoE I & II)

Ranking lyrics is difficult, there are several different ways to evaluate them and none are completely satisfying.
Do they convey clear meaning?  Are they too literal? too poetic?  not poetic enough?  generate an emotional response?  easy to sing to?

I think any of my top 5 are pretty interchangable lyrically, but I gave the edge to the album with the most lyrics that I found a) evocative, b) memorable or c) singable.
