Inb4 many people says "We only have three days..." on Wednesday...
Which would be silly, as they'll have two days by that point.

Well, it probably helped that you didn't harass them or anything, you just introduced yourself politely, you just told you look forward to the album and wished a good evening, if you would have went full fanboy on them "OMG OMG U AR PETRUCCI I LUV U TAKE 10 PHOTOS WITH ME" they would have been annoyed, in the end they're normal people knowing they can be recognized so I'm sure they don't mind being approached tastefully like you did.

Cool story!
Thanks man!

Just flew back in from Chicago last night and ran into none other than John and Rena Petrucci at the New York airport bodega by the baggage claim...I told my wife, "that's the guitar player from dream theater", and she was like say something or I'm going to...I was like "no way they probably don't want to be bothered, plus what am I gonna say?!" She insisted and was 2 seconds from tapping JP on the shoulder so I just awkwardly turned to Rena and was like "excuse me are you Rena and John?" and she was really nice and just smiled and said yeah we are, and John turned around and I was like :"what's up man looking forward to the new record this week", and he laughed and said "coming soon!" and then I just said "awesome have a great night guys".

They were super nice about it so pretty cool way to end my trip!

Really cool.  I would have forgotten about NAMM if not for Travis Larson coming through town on his annual pre-NAMM "mini-tour."  He always manages to bring some really good talent with him, and this year was no exception.  Got to see Magic Elf and Dave LaRue's solo band open for him this time around.  Travis is a bit EBMM guy, and I meant to ask him to say hi to JP at NAMM, but it was getting late by the time the show ended, so I didn't really stick around to chat other than a quick "Great show, man!"  Anyhow, yeah, John and Rena are just great people.  Glad you had a good experience.

The question is: will we get another update today?

Well, the marketing schedule has been flexible and has changed on the fly quite a bit, but there is supposed to be something else released before 1/29 according to the last schedule I have, so stay tuned.  Hopefully, it happens.  But even if it doesn't, we will have the album before we know it!

I would imagine/expect/hope the full Astonishing website (including Places, the 2nd video, and the clickable NOMAC buttons) would be accessible on release day. What's the point of holding any of that back when the album is in the world?

Cool story.  I always imagine it would be really surreal to run into someone famous just randomly in public.

Living in a city in England - I saw a few famous people out and about.

Most famous people i've spoken to are really down to earth.

I was in London one day and Terence Stamp just walked past me. I saw Damien Lewis in Guildford one day. . .

:lol  Yeah, I don't really care about pics of album art being posted.  The music and any videos that have not been officially published for public consumption are a different story, but I don't care about album art.

Here you will find photos of the CD too :

It looks as though the booklet is glued into the case; this doesn't bode well...

Well, that's one of the most disappointing things about this album so far.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

How many pages is it? Seems like it would be a thick one, with lyrics, characters, maps, etc.

I imagine rehearsals for these shows will take a couple weeks. Big production and props, all new material, everything synced to a click.
First few shows may be the hardest they have ever done.

I'm guessing James will sing everything in one voice live or it will be an extra struggle.

Anyway, that site that tells if stuff happened says it hasn't happened. Congratulations to the DT machine for keeping everything under wraps until the very end, save some chosen few we'll all enjoy the new album at the same time!

They've done well but it's likely a matter of hours now that the CD has to be being distributed to stores, etc.

I used to download albums for free but then I found getting the CD really anti climactic :(

Plus back then they were horrible quality.

I don't bother now.

Yeah, the CDs will be shipping these very days so all hell will break loose, but release date it's this friday... I mean, we're basically there, the Avantasia album was posted by mistake on Spotify and that was enough, can you imagine Roadrunner uploading The Astonishing on Spotify in December? the horror of all the endless discussions that would have happened  :D
