Yeah I definitely hope there are some types of repeated themes . . . most rock operas do have them though so I'm not too worried ;)

I just found a leak of the complete Astonishing character list, oops.....

Honestly we need to have DT and DT collaborate for a Ziltoid project

The difference is that Ziltoid doesn't even take himself seriously (which is part of what makes him so great), whereas with The Astonishing, you won't catch Aryhys or Nafaryus telling fart jokes to Gabriel. Or go into the back story of how Evangeline is a huge DT fan girl who worships John Petrucci.  :corn
"The thing that kills me is all these bands that use huge words in their lyrics, 'I'm swimming in a vortex of apathy.' I'm like, 'What?' I don't walk up to a friend and go 'That's a stylin' looking vortex of apathy you've got there pal. I was swimming up a river of deceit myself."
- Devin Townsend
"poop" - Ziltoid

Is anyone else hoping for some repeated themes throughout the story, be they musical or lyrical, or both? I listened to SFAM recently and remember hearing a lot of repeated themes, like home repeating a theme from Metropolis Pt 1 (though I realize SFAM was the sequel to that song, so repeating a theme from it was probably inevitable)

I'm really, really, hoping for lots of repeated themes and melodies.  This could make or break the album for me.  The fact that there's an overture is a very good sign.

Then why is a line in the lyrics to "Lord Nafaryus": "Doth his fart smelleth not?"  ???

It's pretty much confirmed from the Rolling Stone interview. Looks like there will be themes for different characters:

"Rather than simply stringing songs together, Petrucci and Rudess fashioned sounds to suit disparate settings and situations, and devised recurring themes to signify characters in the story."

Haha  :lol I would have hoped that at least some of the lyrics used Middle English, but then I remembered that the story is set in the future, lol.

Hi guys, long time no see, what's up?

On topic; I was pleasantly surprised by The Gift of Music. It really does make me think of my favorite albums and that's really exciting. Couldn't be happier about having purchased tickets for the gig in Stockholm.  :yarr

Even if I had heard the entire album and not merely 9 tracks, it would be too early to rank this album.  But that being said, I can tell already that this will rank in the top half of the discography just based on the strength of what I have heard.  I don't know where in the top half.  It could end up smack in the middle.  It could be #1.  Neither would shock me.  But as I listen to this songs, I think of my top 4 DT albums and ask myself, "Are these songs THAT good that I could possibly rank this album ahead of my top 4 DT albums of all time?"  And I answer, "Yeah, maybe they are."  I really can't wait until __________ ___, 2016.

Can you tell us which 9 tracks have you heard?
Not specific names, just... Early ones? Disc II ones?

Maybe Petrucci wakes up one day, busts his way into the studio, tells Rich "Fuck off, I can't wait" and leaks it on purpose?

I know.  But as I have mentioned before, those are dates on vendor sites.  The band has not released the date yet, so I am not going to say what it is because it is not set in stone.  That projected date has not become official yet.  It is just the projected date that is released to those outlets.

No.

It does occasionally when albums get leaked. Eg. Bjork's Vulnicura. A few others have also dropped in early as a response to leaks.

I think nowdays, specially with rock/metal bands, they usually put up a full online album stream early, instead of releasing the album in the stores.

I think all the activity is great. The forum is very enjoyable to be around when we're leading up to an album release. I'm not sure what the exact numbers are, but I would estimate that it's been busier than the DT12 buildup. The complexity of the story, the manner in which information is being revealed.. I have to give kudos again to the band and the label for doing all this. It feels like it's going to be a special chapter in the history of Dream Theater..
