They didn't make any mistakes. This is how they WANTED it to sound.

yeah, but that doesn't cater to my specific audiophile opinion

Well that's your problem and not the band's.

Also, to those moaning about the sound of it: We must be listening to different albums. I think it sounds great! These guys know what they're doing. They've never let us down before, so we should trust them.

You know the sound of a record after it's been abused or simply played too many times? You have pops, cracks, and hiss that are a fundamental problem to the listening experience? Imagine if a band let a new CD go through with that kind of stuff on it and you would have an idea of what it's like for those of us with decent equipment and discerning ears to try and listen to this poor mastering. Yes, I can hear the music and enjoy it, but there is no reason for it to sound like it does. It could be the band wanting it to sound that way, it could be the band sitting down with an engineer who really doesn't master any other way, or it could be them being completely hands off in the process, but in any case it's still a poor mastering job.

While the focus obviously has to be song, things like the cover art, sound, and overall presentation all go into  the business of a band, and while I still considering Dream Theater to be masters of their craft where it counts most, it is saddening to see them somewhat waiver in these other aspects.

Well that recent interview was made after the listening party, obviously. These videos were done while they were still recording, so back then, there was probably much less they could say, or heck, maybe things they didn't even know about the album yet.

Imagine if someone went to the party with some manuscript paper who was an absolute genius at transcription and write down the entire album as it happened - took it home and charted it out in Sibelius and uploaded it for us here :lol

Hold up, lemme just go grab my TARDIS, quick pop back to the 1700's...grab a young prodigy Mozart...Here we go! Perfect!

That review is so... I don't know... Short? And full of obvious things like the band member's skills. Not very informative :/

I don't speak for noxon, but I'm sure his review is FAR more comprehensive and objective. That review is not only incredibly concise and spoiler free, but it's also a pretty positive one, and I may be too cynical but they probably want to paint the album in a favorable light to stay on good terms with Petrucci, so as to keep him open and willing for further interviews to be posted on their website. But yeah I don't think we'll see noxon's review until close to the release date due to how comprehensive and unbiased it supposedly is.

Noxon ? Do you have a timeline for when you can post ?

Petrucci provided a ton of spoilers in his interview anyway. But I see what you're saying about only positive reviews. It's possible.

I don't even know if you could call that a review since just anybody could have written that and that's without even listening to it. It's more like a teaser review or something instead of an actual review if that makes sense to anybody besides me.  :-\

Noxon said that the hard date he was told was September 9th. He also said he would put it out if the album leaked.

Not very informative review. I could have written the same stuff after watching all the studio webisodes.

I got a feeling that the first movement will be instrumental, but I could be wrong of course.

Well a french title doesn't mean it has to have french lyrics, it could just have some french lines, but i agree with wasteland, it's likely to be instrumental.

I wouldn't be surprised if he can't. I mean, maybe bare minimum, but most people I know, who don't live in Quebec, or don't travel there a lot, don't really speak it. It gets kind of forgotten after high school.

Well, I remember reading somewhere (can't remember where or when, sorry guys! :-\) that his mother was French speaking, but he couldn't speak french himself. But being a Frenchman myself, I would like to hear him sing the line "Paradoxe de la Lumière Noire" in French. Guess it would be priceless!

Well, that review was pretty forgettable.

That "review" reminded me of ones I used to read in Hit Parader and Circus magazine in the 80s. It was quite obvious sometimes that the reviewer had not actually listened to the album, writing things like "frenzied drumming" about a song that turned out to be an all-acoustic.   ::)
