Staind
« on: July 29, 2011, 01:46:51 AM »
This is an official thread for Staind. Hopefully I'm not the only Staind fan on this forum. I've been listening to them since Break The Cycle and I've never lost touch with them.....I love how experimental they are with all of their albums and the way they incorporate different styles into their music.....so if you want, show some love for this awesome band!

I used to like Staind, but then they took the Creed route and got softer and softer. I still have the first 3 albums, although Tormented is pretty lame. I only have it because it's kinda rare I think. I used to own everything up to V, but I lost interest by that point. It's great when bands and artists mature, but in this case, Staind were better when Aaron Lewis was bitchin' and moanin' all the time.

Big Staind fan here.  Also been a fan since Break the Cycle, although they have never gotten anywhere near topping that album.  That whole album is just brilliant.  I like what they did on the last couple of albums, they were still good listens but two of the new songs from the forthcoming album I've heard are easily the heaviest things they have done since Break The Cycle.  Looking forward to the album.

Sounds to me like they're indeed returning to the Dysfunction/Break The Cycle days with the new album.

Tormented was freaking $300 on Amazon, last I checked.  :omg:

I like everything up to Chapter V, but screw The Illusion Of Progress. I couldn't stand that album. The new one seems to be shaping up to be a winner, though, if what they said about going back to their heavier music is true.

They said that about IoP too. And I bought Tormented when they were selling it on their website for like $10 or $12 I think.

IoP is great. They said they had the mindset of making their heaviest album but what came out was the complete opposite. I love that album, the songs are awesome. That's one of the reasons why I love this band.....Aaron Lewis knows how to write songs.

Here's to the new album!  :tup

I can appreciate that.  I love listening to Jeff Buckley when I'm depressed.  I think what bugs me about Staind is that Aaron makes his point so blunt.  A little mystery is always good.  To each his own though.

This.  I was listening to BTC the other day when I was down, in a weird way it helps.

This thread inspired me to listen to Staind again. Still great music although there wasn't a single song from IoP that caught my attention. I shouldn't have gotten rid of 14SoG as 9 of the 14 songs are excellent.

September is going to be WAYYY too intense:

13th: A Dramatic Turn Of Events and Staind

20th: Heritage (Opeth) and Major/Minor (Thrice)

27th: The Hunter (Mastodon) and Unto The Locust (Machine Head)

I'm gonna be broke for a year lol

Something that stuck with me since the release of 14 Shades Of Grey is that someone made the comment that the guys in Staind are dumb because there are more than 14 shades of grey.

I got Break the Cycle, it was good. I loved Epiphany, as well as the majority of 14 Shades of Grey. V is too much ballad for me, same with the Illusion of... Success it was? I don't remember.

I liked Staind back in the day. Haven't listened to them in months or years.

It's The Illusion Of Progress. And you should check out the 2 new songs I posted above, definitely a throwback!

Dunno if anyone got the new record, but it fucking KILLS with the exception of 'Wannabe.' They should've cut that song. But all the songs seem to have a new energy and I like it!

So young.  :'(

By the 13 year time between posts, I've obviously haven't kept up with this band in that amount of time.  Break the Cycle was still such a big album back then, so good.

The self-titled, which is the last he played on, is a fave of mine. Really heavy record. The latest continued in that vein. Pretty heavy and I really liked it. Jon's drum tech took over for him when he left the band.

No wonder I lost track of them.  Only had the one album afterwards last year.

I picked it up last week but I actually haven't listened to it yet.

I have a feeling I didn't get around to that listen.  Couldn't tell you a thing about it.

Very sad...anyone have the details as to why the band parted ways with him?

Essentially, his relationship with Aaron broke down and he was extremely frustrated with the whole process of the self-titled record. He felt it was rushed and incomplete. Like I said, I love that record. I remember playing Eyes Wide Open for a buddy who does not like Staind. I asked him who he thought it was. He couldn't tell. I told him it was Staind and he was shocked.

I just saw a comment from Johnny who called that album a cross between Tormented and Dysfunction.

I was really late picking up the latest as I have some issues with Aaron and it held me back a bit. With that said, I think Confessions is excellent and it got quite a bit of play from me. For some reason, I really love when Aaron gets into those growl vocals.

Yeah the s/t album is one of their stronger ones for sure. Has anyone listened to Confessions of the Fallen? I thought it was good, but not great. Wasn’t worth the 12 year wait, but it is what it is.

Also, I popped in The Illusion of Progress the other day and I forgot how much I like that one. Some good songwriting!

RIP. Dysfunction and [/i]Break The Cycle[/i] was my shit in late middle school/early high school. I need to revisit the whole discography soon.
