Whoa, didn't expect you to go the "smooth jazz" route.  ...and also didn't realize this was from the '80s.  I thought it was early '90s for some reason.  I also don't believe I ever saw the video.  But great song.  I think many babies have been made with it playing in the background.

It actually isn't in my default 80s playlist (which I am using for this thread), but it plays on Totally 80s all of the time, so it fits.

Sade - Smooth Operator

I was never really a fan of this tune, but I can see why it was so big.  Personally, it always struck me as much that should have been used in soft porn. :lol

Saw Sade live and her band kicks ass.  Good tune.

Sade is amazing.  Smooth Operator is not one of her best songs, but it's still pretty good.

Great song. Pure audio sex. Sade will even be sexy as a corpse. Here's a bass cover by a cute blonde.

Fleetwood Mac - Big Love

Great tune; loved in back then, and still love it.  Neat video, too, featuring a progression of images of the band throughout a mansion, and when the song concludes with that sped-up ending, the entire video is then reversed in a hurried manner that goes along with the new pace of the song.  Very cool.

A great song. I've mostly heard the live version from 1997 since it's on the Greatest Hits I have. I wish I could play guitar like Buckingham...

You know I was never enamored with this song or the album.  It was ok but I never really got into TITN.

The acoustic-only live version is nice, but there is something about the original that is so sublime and exciting; it's quite the sensual song. :coolio

And Buckingham is definitely a beast of a player.  :hefdaddy :hefdaddy

The live version definitely takes the song to another level.  Buckingham is awesome.

There are a lot of times when I forget this album by Fleetwood Mac existed. This was one of them.  :lol

While Lindsey Buckingham was a great guitarist, I always remembered when Joe Walsh was singing the praises of the criminally underrated Don Felder in an inteview once, and his particular comment was "Felder could blow Lindsey Buckingham off the stage." Always wondered what Walsh had against Buckingham with that comment.

Well, Tom Petty's Don't Come Around Here No More was based off of Petty hearing Stevie Nicks tell that to Don Henley at a party back in the day. Perhaps she got along as poorly with other Eagles as she eventually did with Henley and maybe there could be a contentious vibe extending to other Fleetwood Mac members. Reaching? Yep. Possible? Maybe.

I think that is a reach. If any bands in the history of music got along well and had no animosity toward others, it was Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles.

Considering the massive amount of drugs Walsh has done in his lifetime, I gotta think that that comment came when he was hitting them particularly hard.

Well the part about Nicks telling Henley "don't come around here no more" is true. They'd been dating at the time and were having a couples spat. I saw it on Pop Up Video.

.38 Special - Back Where You Belong

I always got a kick out of this video, as it portrayed it like it was gonna be a serious video, but came off as more charming and comical than anything; good combination of the two, given all of the elements.  And the ending, with the girl smiling and waving goodbye to them as she gets away on the train, is just awesome.  Oh, and the song itself is obviously a good one.

I had today, utterly forgotten both this song and video until I clicked the Youtube video link. And wow, I used to love .38 Special back in the day. Great band. No story, though, since yeah, I utterly forgot the song existed.  :lol

Funny, I've never been a southern rock guy but 38 Special had enough pop sensibilities that I liked them a lot.

There was a tribute to him recently and he did a damn good job singing Higher Ground with Stevie Wonder so...

Party All The Time was catchy as fuck, but I thought it was a joke at first.

Let's face it, this album only happened because Eddie Murphy was Eddie Murphy. Back then he could get away with whatever he wanted. Song still sucked though.  :lol

Madonna - Into the Groove

One of her must upbeat, top-tapping hits of the 80s, this was a big hit, despite the movie it was written for, Desperately Seeking Susan, absolutely bombing.  Not my favorite Madonna hit from the 80s, but still one I enjoyed then, and one I still enjoy.  I don't remember the video being one of her better ones, probably because it mainly consisted of footage from the movie, which I never saw.

I always liked the analogy of the girl saying that he cannot get "into the groove" until he proves his love for her.  Seemed pretty blatant to me.
